That's not the philosophical definition
The philosophical definition is apparently that nothing exists
Ohh
Isn't it more like "nothing has any meaning"?
Which is literally just solipsism I guess
Aha yea I think
But that's stupid. What does it mean for them to say nothing has meaning?
are we talking about mereological nihilism
Not now
"nihilism" is an ill defined term without any qualifiers
Means everything is pointless in the end I guess
Ah
Sorry
That feels like a sentiment and not a philosophical position to me
And that is 👀
Life itself doesn't have any meaning
There's no inherent grand purpose
We just exist because we do
😌 hmm yes 14 year old's ultimate copium

@dull salmon On the scale of 1 to Walter, how sussy are you being today?
I mean I think there is legitimate reason to be skeptical of the notion that meaning value and purpose are intrinsic properties of objects
I mean the confusion for me is
What does it mean for meaning to be intrinsic or not??
It's just words unless it's defined yea?

An inherent and natural property of the object
I thought of starting a shitpost conversation
Are you asking what the definition of the word meaning is?
There are like six trillion definitions
Moth counting in shambles 😔
Dang
Thanksn
I've been rolling around in the mud but with words enough :P
Thanks for being patient I guess xD
Cya doods
Rortyposting
Ultra really said "no fun allowed"
have you ever gamed with a joycon @summer nest
joycon deez nuts
no idea i just like that joke
virgin nihilists: life has no inherent purpose besides that which we give it
chad nileists: The Nile, forever new and old, Among the living and the dead, Its mighty, mystic stream has rolled.
First one is existential nihilism right
Also I don't get the hype or rush behind being concerned about windows 11 PC compatibility.
Windows 10 has support till 2025 right
LTT made a video about how you don't need to upgrade
@summer nest i switched over to Linux so I am trying to get steam working KEKW
I found linux easier to install cuda and it has better support for fast.ai
also found it way easier to get my cuda drivers set up
though I think thats rare tbh think windows has better spport
tbh im not sure how much OS matters i wanted to try linux mostly
that honestly pissed me off so much
got steam working just had to use flatpak
Mac and Windows users: "Yeah I just downloaded steam and it worked fine"
Linux users: "I've been trying to get steam to work for a few hours and I keep finding different tips online and it finally worked but I needed to install an additional package but it was easy"
"Linux is a nightmare - only 0.8% of sales - over 50% of reported tech issues"
linux is good, although i never used because i'm afraid of bricking my pc and dont have a pc anymore
interesting i didn't realize with uefi you could actually brick your computer using rm -rf /
only switched to uefi this year lol
why is a Mac user downloading steam ???
it took like 20 minuts
IT WASNT THAT BAD

that cause linux users actually about there stuff so they report it

actually about there
bad idea of the day: an ML algorithm to determine whether a given string is an actual arxiv math title
like arxiv-or-snarxiv
how tf was this wrong
👀
wait wtf
they did $γγ$ instead of $\gamma \gamma$
Namington
Ok
so many things about this are wrong
Ok
how can 15 authors be wrong
shiver me timbers
Bowlingball time
hmm
I'm so scared
no look at the fifth fundamental orce
All I got was impact
physcists have found strong suggestion towards it
And “the”
ooh
tau
it is the most heavisest type of electorn
higgs boson are responsible for giving everything mass
it was dicovered in 2012 in the lhc
physics is less complicated and less scary by far in relation to maths
fifth force baby
What about the graviton?
hmm
which one was real
the graviton need high amounts of energy to detect separarelty from a gravitational wave which was discovered in 2016
dions were fake
thats what i guessed
if u say mathematicians say so
the ILC doesn't exist though, it was just a collider proposal in the 90's
but i wanted it to be real
"dion" sounds cool
brb switching to math phys so i can invent dions
physics> maths
what properties u think the dion would have
no change th reaction
see
(Shouldn’t be sullying you because I know nothing about physics)
but im sure theres a bullshit string theory way to justify it

are u mathematicians even trying to look at a unified theory etc
i gotta head out otherwise i will be torn apart by you guys
it's called the langlands program
it does attempt to explain quantum gravity
but for string theory to be a unified theory it'd first need to be internally unified
rather than the status quo of there existing 500 million string theories
with slightly different technical details
yes that is what i intend to find out
and differing numbers of prefixes
in any case, its solidly in the realm of physics/math phys
yes
the typical mathematician doesnt worry about it for the same reason the typical mathematician doesnt study the works of jane austen
Who tf is Austen?
im not sure "beauty" is how id describe string theory
"just add dimensions until the math works out"
Jane Austin?
"trust me bro"
haha
Yes
there are lik 10 dimesion s or 9
If you want to learn physics have you considered just learning physics
Oh oops Jane Austen
Who is that lmao
with one added more of being time
An author
imagine if there are multiverses
Fosur
how else u gonna get dions
what will i be doing now over there
How do you know that string theory is the closest we are to understanding the cosmos
If you dont know math or physics
no he does
wait are dions a DN joke
he's just faking

wdym im faking
perhaps
you tell me

but believe me when i get in the field we will see if i complete my goal
I just dont understand why you have set all these goals when you dont know anything about the things you want to do
@blazing pawn but do u know enough maths and physics to even harmonise string theory concepts
What

no im 16 for gods sake
is this where i whip out
Got em
the 1 paper i ""published""
how do u except me to know everyhting
in undergrad
haha
I dont expect you to
yes this is when you whip it out
I just find it strange that you talk so authoritatively about these subjects
so u saying i cant dream
yes because im in every right to be curious
abut the universe
has popsci gone too far?
Bro it began with Munkres
Its a joke
yes but if i make the wrong statements correct me , im happy whein im told im wrong rather than being supposedly right
Based on a #point-set-topology copypasta
Idk ask nikita
lmao
i said string theory is a contender for unifed theory but its mainly based on how a person views the world and it really depends on how the world actually is

I thought you were referencing the "how many holes does a human have" video
so true
string theory is certainly not "based on how a person views the world"
But how many holes do a human have tho
it fucks with intuition even harder than regular QFT
string theory is certainly not "based
now this is popsci
learning about eyeholes has made my life noticeably worse
well in theory how about if the particles werent made up of strings
I feel like most of these things you say dont mean anything
the one thing i dont like about those "how many holes" things is that they posit that mathematicians have one canonical way of counting holes
people dreamt of supersymmetric particels
and for some reason this way is ALWAYS topological
i have
hmm
qft already makes my head hurt idk if id want to read abt string theory
i woke up one morning and was like "dude, all particles are susy"
i can confirm "no has dicoverd supersymmetry for all partices"
Like betty numbers or something?
ok

Good night!
chemfinal why are you in the amongus discord server...
the emotes are great

no please it was the supersymmetry i saw the particle vent
sun5o
red actin kinda sun5o
im gonna ask one more question before i cut

You don't have the required permissions to ban members here!
You don't have the required permissions to ban members here!
very lucky indeed

sullying your own post is
this emote is the most hilarious thing if you get the reference
but alas
this server too uncultured

it needs a bit of brightnening up

symmetric baka
Namington...
Do you play ffxiv...
the more i learn about you the more disappointed i am
im sorry i have good taste sloth
you literally play eroges and mmos
exactly
lol
moth is in shambles
trembling at namington's strange taste in video games
i too am trembling but only because it is cold here

sloth you just refuse to understand true art
also sloth
you immediately recognized that as specifically an ff14 icon
rather than anything else
says more about you than it does me tbh.
SHUT UP

ok good taste
The world of anime healers is full of dainty, shy young girls who just want to help and make everyone feel good and happy and be friends with everyone.
MMO healers are sick of you standing in the red and are THIS close to just doing the rest of the raid by themselves. You're only alive because they want you alive.
Thanks to my Patreon and Twit...
Oh yeah playing supports is fun
I'm in a dnd campaign right now where I'm playing a wizard with no attacking spells
i play engineer in tf2 because i am horrible at everything else
Of course, this isn't quite a support
Bards are supports
Non-attacking wizard is just a useless twink
mmos are the only games i like playing healer in because theyre the only genre that try and make healer actually interesting
like i really dislike playing as medic in tf2 for example
its basically just "stay out of sniper sightlines, click wounded people, and pop uber every few minutes"
obviously at a top level theres more to it than that
but its still not my jam
mmo healing is basically resource management sim
ill admit i dont know how mobas work
like at all

Oracle: delay both healing and damage, hope you outheal the enemy
Phoenix: heal teammate while killing yourself
No medic is the best tf2 class because you can heal and kill people at the same time
Cope
i feel like 99.9% of the skill in medic is just positioning
which admittedly is the part of shooters i'm worst at
except like, aim
...okay maybe im just bad at shooters
its ok me too
idk what the skill is but the blutsauger is fun
thats one thing i wish more shooters copied from tf2 though, you have different types of projectiles/aiming
like in most modern fpses, everything is hitscan
click target to kill them
tf2 has some of that but it also has a lot of projectiles
with different behaviours
But I mained mei in overwatch
not to mention the whole melee sidegames
because i enjoyed ufcking with people
adds a lot of variety imo
i understand why they dont have it, projectiles fucking suck from an online multiplayer standpoint
really hard to make them work right
but tf2 manages pretty well
okay yeah the pomson's ass
no doubt about that
i mean rockets/grenades and stuff
otherwise i see your point yes
medic projectiles
although medic projectiles are coded weirdly apparently
syringes are coded as hitscan but act like projectiles
medic projectiles are epic
because valve is competent developer
cow wrangling 👁️ 👄 👁️
anyway this causes weird latency with aiming syringes
maybe i should try a community server
I havent played tf2 in so long
and not the casual queue
that nothing else has
mebe it's just bcs of the servers i end up getting are bad
¯_(ツ)_/¯
i do get the impression that server choice matters
since tf2 is so massive
and so many communities have existed for a literal decade
and developed their own subcultures
mathcord tf2 community when
😎
did my firefox just crash...
maybe
Cringe
fireforx kdinga based dotho!! 🤨 🤨
Namington
if the basic open sets of an affine variety are under the structure sheaf sent to the localization A_f for some f in A
and theyre also intersections of A_p for a prime ideal p of A
every A_f is the intersection of some A_p right
And I took that personally
Nihilism as a whole is stupid
life as a whole is stupid (and meaningless)
im glad i have the takes of SIR.SAVAGE from Math Discord to inform my philosophical worldview
dunno what i'd do without them
Did SIR.SAVAGE tell a single lie though?
homophobes make me lose my mind
Y'all seen this?
crypto people are insane
would you believe them?
that literally looks a picture of the anchors for a fox news show
I wish people would stop using the phrase "I accept the axiom of choice" or "I reject CH".
If Platonism is right, then what you accept or reject is irrelevant.
If Platonism is wrong, what does it mean to accept an axiom, accept it as what?
There is no third option.
someone is going to make a bitcoin religion at some point
I wonder if it's already made
Bitcoooonnnnect

no crypto best
the problem is 99.9% of people that are into crypto don't even know what it is or how it functiosn
i feel assaulted by ur pfp

Assuming LEM, LOL
There is no third option.
just want to let u guys know that you are sullying choice enthusiast Asaf Karagila

Care to explain how it works
would take too much

How does crypto work though?
Magic

Too lazy to open browser.

It works by setting fire to the Amazon rain forest in return for magic money
Isn’t this just capitalism
i only accept LEM or not LEM
that vid is basically scratching the surface ;))
no RP please

cryptocurrency is a bunch of bs
number goes round and round
Actually, the fundamental group is trivial. S^1 is homeomorphic to a single point, so the fundamental groups must be isomorphic. The fundamental group of a point is trivial. QED
u are bunch of bs
my wrapped vacuum cord manages to knot itself when I look away so
Even better, the torus is a deformation retract of a circle so they have the same fundamental group. So the fundamental group must be ZxZ. So a trivial group is isomorphic to ZxZ
wat

No I was joking lmao

That doesn't obviously work
"a torus"
i was thinking of the stupid case where a torus is a product of circles, so you just take the product with only one factor

:cringe:
This is not true right? The bouquet has free grp on 2 generators as its fundamental grp
I thought the T^1 retracts to S^1 instead of S^1 retracting to T^1
like a S^1 wedge product S^1?
Oh i didn’t see the discussion above, that makes more sense now
Humans are genus 7 though
Earth, wind, fire, air, water, yin, yang
wood
Wood >:(
Thermodynamics, classical mechanics, elwctrodynamics, quantum mechanics, astrology, condensed matter, experiment
Weird
what is the fundamental group of a human body
astrology
wood is earth
?
C a r b o n
Earth is air??
Its bizarre that theres just a little carbon sprinkled on top that makes up all worthwhile stuff
We live on a silicon ball
And oxygen would be much rarer if it wasn't all tied up in silicates
Maybe my true calling was earth sciences all along
hi very cool graph, what is the source?
Wikipedia
The abundance of the chemical elements is a measure of the occurrence of the chemical elements relative to all other elements in a given environment. Abundance is measured in one of three ways: by the mass-fraction (the same as weight fraction); by the mole-fraction (fraction of atoms by numerical count, or sometimes fraction of molecules in gas...

I'm very sad about the ending of the Castlevania anime
I felt the last season was a tad rushed
And the dialogue could have been fleshed out better
I
Ummm
Why did you ping me about this
What is Castlevania
How is it relevant to giggle
Wallachia
No?
Castlevania
C'mon
You needed to be pinged
Oh wtf is this anime shit
can someone help me withmy homework
Read #❓how-to-get-help to see where to get that.

is there any good maths channel for IMO prep?
#old-network math olympiad server most likely
there is #competition-math channel here for problems ig
Ohk thx
So r/learnmath is fed up with new discords but is there a financial math discord? I see multiple links from that sub but each one is just another general math discord...
Lol I got here from Reddit, where did yall come from?
I'm just trying to find a financial math server in here, since if I do it in the subreddit I'm gonna get flamed with "we don't need more posts about discord servers"
i came here by luck
lol
I have no idea how I got here lmao
maths subreddits
could you make it a million and one
Sure
i just randomly opened discord one day
and typed in discrod.gg/math
and
ended up here
lol

Friday night, I took some pot, had a good time and some snacks, and was then browsing on my phone.
Browsing reddit, I came across a thread on this subreddit that really got me thinking “but wait a minute, what if…”
Before I knew it I was checking out references, writing examples down on paper, trying to come up with bijections, etc. I ended up spending a solid 3 hours, until 2 am, slightly mentally impaired but trying to attack this problem and having a good time. (At that point I mostly convinced myself it was impossible, gave up, and went to bed.)
This is far from the first tome it’s happened to me, either. Does anyone else do this?
is this a copy pasta
It sounds like a copy pasta
Personally, I prefer not to take anything that has a direct impact on my cognition. My brain is my moneymaker, and I don’t feel that it is worth the risk.
832 votes and 196 comments so far on Reddit
half of ryc’s messages are copy pastas
I completely agree with you, I try to look after my brain and not take anything that can interfere with my intelligence. During the pandemic I was careful to avoid getting infected not because I was scared of dying, but because there is a chance the virus can impair your brain.
he loves pasta
lmao
One of the students in a class my friend and I were grading for wrote on their exam
I was getting pretty ripped after work for a while and creating a multiplication table from scratch on a piece of grid paper. It was a good way for me to become acquainted with the tendencies of certain numbers. I started isloating patterns in multiples of numbers and plotting them to see what kind of linear pattern would arise. I have always sucked at math but I want to pursue classes in community college. I've become increasingly persistent about getting to know it because it has been my enemy my whole life. Btw, I work in a kitchen and I quit drinking 3 years ago, so keeping my mind busy afterwards is important to me lol
i feel bad
"Will pay TAs in beer, food, or cash for math help"
because this is actually wholesome by the end
And my friend just circled the beer part
but the start is still funny
lol
When I was in my first year of uni I was struggling with maths (as if I'm not now lol), and I couldn't grapple with limits, and like, what they really were, and what they were showing when they appeared.
Day after an lsd bender and I was at a bus stop, and there was a sandwich dropped on the floor being pecked at by a seagull. It just clicked
i fucking hate reddit so much
every post in this thread
every post in this thread is so bad
I discovered the lynchpin in my code that made my thesis work while I was blitzed on edibles. So yeah, it was more debugging than proper math, but it was still fun.
Something about the disorientation and change in perspective forces me to be very deliberate and careful, which usually works out for the better.
Pretty good
yeah
it's like three quarters people who are unironically like that rick and morty IQ copypasta, and another quarter who think they're superior to other people because they're scared of drugs
See I never understood this part
I don't do any drugs due to family history - but I don't care if other people do drugs
exactly the same for me
to be fair
i used to care a lot
but berkeley beat that out of me really quickly
LOL
I think what got to me was I wanted to be in a relationship for a long time, but I got constant rejections
No matter how hard I tried to get a date or whatever
Then I stopped caring, got a date, worked out now we're married
very sensible
But the time I was like 16 years old up until 20 years old where I got my GF
or a date, or a person to be in a relationship if you prefer
It wasn't a super great mentality on what relationships were, and why I wanted one
yeah
I think the relationship came into being at the right time for me - any earlier and I think it would have just been very toxic
Because teenagers
that makes sense
i don't even remember what it's like to care about the idea of a relationship
like
i did a lot in high school
and there were all the silly two way crushes and triangles and stuff
Yeah, the existential dread useless flirt. Hours spent "do they like me? do I like them?" etc.
i just stopped caring about halfway through my first semester at berkeley, completely
Instead of actually getting stuff done
yeah
God being a teenager is awful, I'm surprised we make it out alive
it's obnoxious
I can't wait until I hit 30 and my frontal lobe is mostly developed
Maybe I'll be able to be more productive
i really think i had an overall way above average teenage experience, even if it was still nothing special
from what i hear from others
It's like the first time that people have the ability to think critically about things like society, mortality, etc.
It feels like a birth, an enlightenment of the mind. So they assume that nobody has seen what they see before, that nobody has these lived experiences other than some obscure writer they read, vlog post, youtube video, etc.
yeah
I liked being 18
When college came around
Especially 19
Arguably 19-20 was the best time of my life
I think in teenage years my senior year of HS up until my first year of College was a blast
Really developed myself physically, socially, and mentally
But I think now is way better
Yeah things haven't been too fun lately so I much prefer then, second/third/early fourth year of college
Though idk grad school wasn't really going too much worse than undergrad until covid came around
Last year + change of my life has been fucking garbage lol
First year was set up to be pretty decent
Last year has been great from a self discovery pov, but terrible by most other metrics
Understandable. My parent situation's obv different, overall I am just way too used to living alone
And I had a bad roommate situation this year

Damn I didn't think a pandemic would actually happen in my lifetime
It's pretty surreal
Like I vaguely heard about pandemics when I was a kid but I didn't really think much about them
So I'd rather have been alone still, but this isn't a matter of oh they made things bad (in particular my dad's the actual best). Just that I'm used to a certain independence and living at home wasn't particularly conducive to that
I'm glad you had a good time with your parents
remembering how i thought about pandemics before this is so so weird
like the swine flu / bird flu stuff
and ebola
it's like i actually thought of them as memes
and totally thought of covid the same way too until like, mid january
now i feel like that's really disgusting
or maybe disgusting is the wrong word
For a long time the media was overhyping relatively low-risk viruses for global pandemics
just, it's a very different sort of feeling now (obviously, no surprises there)
If this pandemic happened 20 years ago
I don't think there would have been work from home in 2001
yea
For nearly 95% of people
It's a testament to human engineering and society that we've come this far in so short at ime
time*
Yeah I'm glad that the internet is as good as it is now
as bad as things are, it was still quite good timing
as good timing as you could get with one of these things
Another good thing about the pandemic is rethinking the work week for a lot of people
e.g. going in 5 times a week, driving 30 miles into work
to and back for work that can be done at home
because we hadn't totally developed the methods of rethinking the work week, but the seeds were there, and as you're saying this forced the issue super suddenly
but we were actually capable of responding
Yeah, I hope many office jobs reduce to 2-3 days in person a week
If you have small kids
You need to be near them
i think depending on the industry, that's very very likely
Obviously things in high security positions probably won't happen
But my spouse has done Amazon work from home for nearly a year now
There are some things that'd be better in person, but the rent we have here is 1/10th our monthly income
we were able to save money faster than the real estate market was booming, only because we left Seattle
that is very nice
@deep mango
THis is the worst one
I took several math finals on LSD as an undergrad. Other than the symbols squiggling around on the paper it was fine and I did well on them.
that one is pretty bad
based as hell
I need to try this. I've done finals when drunk, but never high.
It was a copy pasta from reddit
Oh whoops.
I do not advocate taking drugs for math finals that are not prescription. Even if they are prescribed, please be careful with how and why you use drugs
Yeah, I know. I've done some prescriptions that I was prescribed for that were very not-fun; I wound up disposing of them and just not showing up to my appointments with the head-shrinker anymore.
is it bad that i genuinely thought it wasnt a pasta and you were being serious for a moment
The only drug I take is alcohol in social settings

That said from everything I've heard LSD is meant to be safe (when done in moderation) and is meant to be helpful with creative endeavours, and I would assume that includes mathematics.
broooooooooooooo LSD will literally change ur life if u trip once bro just try it
broo
(/s)
kill your ego or somethin
do not do this
I don't abhor drug use, people have a right to decide for themselves what they want to take and what they do not want to take - but please be aware of the consequences and side effects of what you do
This is what people keep telling me, but the majestic garden seems to be down (or maybe I just can't find the right mirror) and the only other stores I can find do things in bulk, like gamma goblin.
I mean, I have never done anything remotely illegal.
don't trip... you might fall over...
the majestic garden
I was given opiates once for shoulder surgery
Made me sick to my stomach
I think I took it once or twice, after that I just dealt with the pain
literally or figuratively
opioids are MAJOR cringe
I guess heroin's not for everyone.
I have no idea why the doctor prescribed them
Real shame, it's a great song. I love the velvet underground.
heroin is like, one of the two drugs (the other being meth) that should stay banned imo
I think the issue with banning drugs is that you have to enforce that ban, and put people in prison for something they want to do that doesn't harm anyone but themselves (potentially)
Not to mention the racial baggage that came with that
I mean, I think the issue is with how drug criminalization even works. I don't think addicts should be criminalized at all; I think there's a case to be made that distribution of certain drugs should be very illegal, but the war on drugs is very bad.
yeah that's the issue, but there are other things the justice system can do - like mandatory rehab/therapy
(also somehow the sacklers aren't in jail despite the war on drugs, what the fuck)
They're going bankrupt
effective rehab/therapy in organized systems is rare
How do you make it mandatory? arrest them if they don't go?
rare is better than none
it's a complicated problem ik
Give them fines?
I'd say fines
They still have a few billion hidden away I thought
I ain't no expert, this seems to be fairly well done
lol...?
Even though they have billions to spare, the Sacklers want a bankruptcy judge to let them off the hook for personal liability in the OxyContin scandal.
its like that weird thing where they put weed users into rehab and they get into (harder) drugs at rehab and then they are stuck in this cycle
Directly from the article
Yeah I'm aware, I claimed they are going bankrupt
And here's more, since I don't know much about it
tbh 99% of weed users probs don't need rehab, it's like alcohol; only the major addicts actually need help with it
sending weed users to rehab is like killing a fly with a nuclear bomb
I'm not sure I know many people who don't smoke if I'm being honest. I don't personally, but I think I have more friends who do than who don't.
It's honestly way less disruptive than the completely legal alcohol.
Also better for you
Yeah, it's a good vice to have, as far as vices go.
Not for me personally, but it's done wonders for people I know.
I think we should ban any substance that affects your body or mind
Including all food
Woke
Okay yeah I was about to comment that but you got on that quickly
Probably ban water too. Maybe even air.
absolutely agree
ban living
Death to everyone.
if no one lives... nothing bad happens! the perfect solution
Death to humanity
Proof of RH? There's nobody around to say it's false, therefore it's true, QED.
^
Humanity going extinct will make math a lot easier
think that's one of those "axiom" things
Most useful
Most useful application of formal logic
I love how in the Talmud the rabbis discuss whether it would have been better if no one had been created at all and they conclude that it would have been better
I read that as "the rabbids" and that is a much funnier mental image
I read that as "the rabbits" and that is a much funnier mental image
I didn't read this, I am illiterate
Same
According to physics light is a particle which could be probably classified as a substance so reading involves the consuming of a substance that affects your mind which is why I don't do it.
Sorry if my physics is wrong there. I am illiterate after all.
No worries. I wouldn't know if you're right or wrong at all; I don't have any language processing skills at all anyway.
I mean I can't even know anything because I don't exist.
Rabiosexual
The notion of an "I" to either exist or not exist is not even a logically consistent concept, so even the statement "I don't exist" is meaningless.
Yeah but the concept of meaningless is meaningless because it requires meaning to exist so that sentence is meaningless
What the fuck. https://lgbta.wikia.org/wiki/Rabiosexual
What the fuck
Because of tumblr

Wikia was a mistake
why is this being given legitimacy by the LGBTA wiki out of curiosity?
This is so gross
even the article treats it as a joke, so.... why?
obviously it's a wikia, it's not official or anything
just like
come on
A lot of wiki people pride themselves on comprehensiveness
flags are a hobby for many people
Lots of good has come out of tumblr, don't get me wrong, but this isn't it.
fair, see the ben 10 fan fiction wiki
Press X to doubt
I have multiple friends who were able to discover their queerness through tumblr when it wasn't acceptable for them to do so in the offline world.
yeah, i'm with bananachair on that
"lots" is overstating it though
Superwholock came out of tumblr
it was clearly very very helpful for some people
Which is not a good thing
also, lol: "Rabiosexual is not considered LGBT+ both from the LGBT+ community and those who identify with rabiosexual. Although, those who are rabiosexual may claim that their identity is on the ace spectrum, in which it is not accepted by the ace community."
Superwholock has a mixed legacy
why do you know about this?
But tumblr was also good for sharing porn
My issues with superwholock are with the media franchises though moreso than the fandoms.
Why wouldn’t you expect ultra to know about this
Shame that it ended
superwholock was a hot mess
Now it's all on twitter
There porn on twitter?
wouldn't "rabiosexual" just be a fetish?
Theres*

twitter doesn't have porn
I had no idea
Also didn't a bunch of actually good gender labels come out of tumblr
What do you think I'm doing on twitter
There have been attempts to incorporate kink into LGBTQIA+, I believe.
lol
Idk I just shitposting
xiro_k
Do u follow me ange
U shud
I only follow horny people on twitter
this is so annoying, people who treat sexuality like it's another kind of kink is like. not it.
whatever, that's my perspective
uh oh
I have a men and women link
i understand some people could see it differently
Kink*
I think the argument is that those who are into kink have been discriminated against for "deviant sexual behaviour" much the same as queer folks, and thus found some solidarity in that?
that makes sense
I personally would consider it separate, but that's me.
it's def separate
I mean you could argue that it should be included but it wouldn't be in the same category as sexual orientation
i hadn't thought about it that way
I mean queerness already includes more than just sexual orientation
I mean really LGBTQIA is like a bunch of things all rolled up in one. There's very little overlap between trans issues and gay issues other than that they found solidarity by working together against systems that oppressed both.
Because the rest of the classifications in LGBTQA are
Are they?
Yeah are they?
Gender and sexuality are mutable
I don't think being nonbinary is an immutable part of my identity
Well it depends on what you mean by immutable
I have always thought it of the process as more one of like, self discovery than one of actually changing gender and sexuality but that could be complete nonsense
And probably has to be
Now that I think abt it
I don't think it's hardwired into my biology that I'm enby
Yeah social constructs like gender clearly can’t be immutable
Given that gender and even sex are social constructs, it is definitely not biological.
Well it depends on how you define things
Genderfluid people exist as well
Well of course I know him she's me
Yeah gender is an obvious counterexample
I mean there's still an element of self discovery
Loki?
Lokidoki
Well now you have to change your name to Lokidoki.
I've talked about this a lot on the enby server I'm on. What constitutes really being nonbinary.
If I change my name to something then it will be tinky winky
What constitutes being nonbinary is identifying as nonbinary in my opinion.

We don't need gatekeeping to be enby
Lokidoki
Wait I'm confused why. Is it just because loki is arguably genderfluid in norse myth?
Ohhh
Both in norse myth and the comics
Though in the comics they're very explicitly genderfluid, not arguably genderfluid
I just saw loki and thought of my name lmao
Well yeah, but presumably people don't just go one day "I'm going to identify as enby now" and that's all there is to it
despite what the transmeds seem to believe
Ugh I need a new manwha
Have you read the ORV novel
No of course not. Identifying as any non-cis identity is probably a hard thing to do in this transphobic society.
Jfc
(Not that I would know - any time I have doubts about being a cis man, I just shove those thoughts deep down and repress them and don't think about it)

is ORV translated
Yes from Korean
Right so that's where the self discovery comes in
There was definitely some serious self discovery in realizing that the enby label fit for me.
Yeah. In all seriousness I'm starting to think about it a lot more now that I'm at college and not living with my family and it is a massive self-discovery process and takes a degree of introspection that can be hard.
But I also don't think it's an innate part of my identity in the sense of being destined from birth.
ANBAB (Assigned Non-Binary At Birth)
Based
I honestly think the entire way we think of both gender and attraction as a society needs a complete overhaul
I actually a have a friend who's identified and presented as nb since they were like 4 or 5 and whose mothers are queer and were on board with it who I joke is cis nonbinary/assigned nonbinary at birth.
They gave birth to Odin's horse Sliepnir, the Fenrir Wolf and Jormungandr the Midgard Serpent
Yeah I thought that was a case
And yeah with friends I just say "I present as me and am attracted to who I'm attracted to, use whatever pronouns you want as long as it's clear from context you're referring to me when you're referring to me", maybe a blanket queer, instead of messing around with the 7 or 8 adjectives I sometimes consider.
Wait did Loki give birth to Fenrir? Since wasn't Hel the mother?
Oh Loki is also Hel's parent
In mythology
Not the comics
Right
is loki the zeus of norse mythology
Yeah I got that a bit mixed up
No.
What is Hela's relation to Loki in the comics anyways? Adopted nephew?
I think adopted half-sister or something but honestly I don't even know at this point
Hela was Odin's elder daughter in the MCU; I can't recall if that's true in the comics
Wait no she's like Odin's daughter yeah
So Hela is the older sister of Thor and Loki in the MCU
Right right I remember now
Actual norse mythology is pretty cool though. I leaned a decent amount of it a while ago.
I'm super into norse mythology.
(As in, I've read the eddas and several sagas)
(Also parts of the Neil Gaiman book)
It's awesome
The Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda are our primary sources of Norse mythology.
Oh nice. I just looked them up.
The prose edda was compiled by Snorri Sturlson, who was Christian at the time for a Christian monarch, so take it with a grain of salt
The poetic edda, as far as I'm aware, was composed anonymously.
Oh yeah I remember wasn't the Norse creation myth kinda weird
Like the gods got licked into existence by a giant cow
Have you read the Saga of the Volsungs
The sagas are the oral myths of the Icelandic people, recorded in the 11th century shortly after Christianization.
Not yet, but it's been on my list forever.
I've read the Saga of Laxdaela and it's great
Yeah in the course that I took we just read English translations
Noun declensions and verb conjugations and word order and stuff
you learned old norse in a single class
Also ange what's this about sexuality being mutable. I haven't really thought of it that way.
Well it was a two course sequence
