Bro help.
what function are you roughly "guessing"
Im bouta tweak out
idk i was just told to draw a 2nd derivative. ;-;
No
let's assume that the curve is of second degree
the derivative should be lines
form 0 - 100, what are you doing?
assume that t=100 is the vertex
Borcherdo switch
Up
physically
concavity makes me get cavities
slowing down or what
What
trace a line and see what is going on
Im half tired 😭
Its ok
yeah then what happens after?
100-200?
yea
Well speeds
yeah
0
now you have a rough sketch of the derivative
😼😼
if I can only pronounce correctly today
so like would this be that part
Or am i being dumb again
there we go
😼😼
idk does that answer your question?
no
not u
id be confused
U helped a bit thx
did u gets learn how to get the acceleration from the velocity?
or the displacement from velocity
well i figured acceleration is just the derivative of velocity
no not this
unless u mean he taught us basic physics
which i already know bc i took phy
correct
so the trend is derivative : disp -> velo -> acc
how about backwards?
Uhh it was
position s(t)
velocity s'(t)
acceleration s''(t)
yeah
now the question is, given the acceleration function, how do you obtain the velocity function?
Uhh isnt this integrals 😭 ..
yeah
Ya i havent gotten to tht part yet
I was about to make you discover that part on your own
like give u a simple example then u be like "OHHHHHH AREAA"
Im not that dumb ik what integrals mean ..
Yeah meanwhile im crying over this assigment
Tysm triangular intrinsic shoulder muscle.
tfw I thought I'm done with assignments
4 new assignments dropped in the same day
They doing u dirty
real
I just submitted my pset 2 min before deadline
I feel you
literally had an existential crisis for the last 3hrs
I literally was crying over the system prog assignment for a week
I always have anxiety when submitting assignments too late. What if your computer suddenly decided to slow down
The prof doesn't do anything in the lectures other than being like "guys let me tell u why this movie clip is related to system programming"
Submitting is satisfying regardless of the grade
Fuck this shit
what is this
Is the original graph curvy?
why are all online submission sites so annoying lol
higher u had to see my integral calculus online assessment
It will make you rethink of life
its so confusing to me with the axises bc we're told to just focus on this part
no thank you
integrate
writes the correct answer
WRONG YOU DID NOT WRITE X^2 INSTEAD OF X^2

lmfao
what
no
thats the whole graph
but we have
2 separate axises
Im so confused ;-;
I literally don't even understand what the question is asking you to do, ngl
Do u know the majority of students failed physics because of the online homework
How about i give up and quit
oh the online hmw for my physics class was pretty terrible
Did u guys use pearson for physics
No
ASSIGNMENT DUE IN 40 MINS.
Where is jay
AAAH I HAEV
the number of extrema that f has is the number of roots that f' will have
ignoring inflection points but w/e
your f' has only 1 root, but there's 2 extrema for f
Deltoid fuck you fuck you fuck you I got this problem WRONG again FUCK FUCK
Try to locate the the points where the slope is 0
WHY IS LOG(N!) = O(NLOGN)
bro what did i do
$\log (n!) = \sum_{k=1}^{n} \log k \le \sum_{k=1}^{n} \log n = O(n \log n)$
Matroid
WHAT THE FUCK
I've been thinking in a very complicated way about it
THIS MAKES SO MUCH SENSE IM SO DUMB
Yea
Real
@latent edge
another stupid question im so sorry
If Q_k is integers n for which n is not divisible by d^k how do you calculate the natural density
so that I can get a formula for $\sum_{Q_k} 1$
vero
Find the Dirichlet series for Q_k
You should correct your f'(x) graph first. Its graph should cross the x-axis two times at the points where the slope of f(x) = 0
$\sum_{Q_k} n^{-s} = \prod_p \frac{(1-p^{-sk})}{(1-p^{-s})}$
Matroid
Can u go from there
@fresh comet Well this is what i got on the assignment
Ill take it. im going to bed
should i go to bed
that's pretty good, all things considered
have a good night ally!
@latent edge ok got it
Thank btw and sorry for bothering you too much today like a bitch
I still have to fix up my bed cuz i washed my sheets 😢
gn ally ily
I didn't even do anything
delty did a lot of shit today and i feel bad
Happy to help
You're welcome
This is great considering the average grade was 30 in my physics class
Aside from people cheating to get the 4.0 GPA for med school or whatever
Oh ya u too @gritty crater
u still gave pointers
Oop
Getting 4.0 GPA but don't know any shit about the subject is so embarrassing
i mean for that kinda people it's "cool" and "gaming the system" or smth
they genuinely dont give af about the subject and just want the clout that comes with being a future [insert career that pays a fuckton here]
"I graduated top of my class"
Everytime they say this I cringe inside

I graduated in the top 83% of my class
Not to be rude, but people boasting their 4.0 GPA while not totally understand what they learnt are annoying and embarrassing
Reminds me of my former classmate, who once has claimed to be "my friend".
Agree. I just care about knowledge
They even have asked me to give them my work so that they could copy mine.
They claimed that they "learnt from solutions", which was quite unbelievable.
and I have over 300 confirmed kills
Seriously, I don't know how to deal with this
Is there a smart way to say no
just say "no"
or no thanks
don't explain yoursel
These guys are so persistent ngl
I already said "no", but they have once stole my work in pdf files saved in the google drive
Mods, ban this person
@ moderators
My supervisor even asked me if I gave someone my work, I told them the truth, yet they just let them pass with a minimum passing score.
I didn't even think he would believe me, either.
I was surprised with how awful their learning attitude actually was in our sophomore year in our university.
oh this kinda thing is a classic lol
They even told me they regret for always procrastinating right before the final in our first semester in our sophomore year.
that seems like something that could and should (?) be reported
Yeah, I couldn't believe the chairman of our major would provide them fellowships in our first summer break.
Classic
this sounds like there’s something else going on behind the scenes
in my experience that kinda attitude persists unless like, a big chunk of the class calls them out and ostracizes them for it
I eventually got to learn that sometimes people who are very close to us can be our enemies.
never had this issue in ugrad but my physics bros did with one particular dude who was kind of a tryhard and routinely copied HWs
same person was also under investigation for harassment and other crap within the dept
eventually not much happened sadly
oh god
uni bureaucracies have little incentive to care
and quite on the contrary they usually do have incentives to just pass stsudents and keep them paying tuition
so in the end it's best to be aware that this kinda stuff happens, don't lend HWs to anyone, generally trust no one lol
except for your close friends to some extent
i never let anyone copy regardless of their relationship to me
id rather help them through it
I mean yeah copying is a no-no anyhow lol
Same
but honestly some people will do anything to get further away
like my friends had this personal discord server where we hung out and sometimes they worked on uni stuff on stream, naturally some not-so-close people joined in on a one-off basis too
on one occasion one of these people accidentally played a recording of a convo in VC through speakers and the mic picked it up
on another occasion, another person copied some HW problems through stream while my friends were working on them

some people lol
If I couldn't keep up, I would rather just drop the course and do it next year.
I hope this was not a bad move.
I have dropped most courses I took in the peak COVID season.
I studied abroad in Taiwan, where there were no indigenous cases for like a year since spring 2020.
Since COVID invariants hit, we ended up having online classes for a semester until vaccines came out in that country.
Thank goodness, they eventually gave up their study in the second semester in our junior year.
I got a 4.0 GPA, I don't need to learn. They all care about the GPA
vibes

Scoring lower than these people kinda disappointed me honestly.
Thank goodness this doesn't only apply to me
"All this smartness and I got +10 higher than you LMFAO"
The problem is when schools and uni and companies also care Abt GPA
Yeah, extrinsic motivations get to them.
I agree. I kind of regret letting my friends copy my works so now without me they can't even do some basic things about the subject
higher?
?
At least, my ADHD frees me from being extrinsically motivated
higher!
analytic number theory
Being intrinsically motivated is more feasible
My ADHD kicks in again
same
I love seeing them struggle on proof-based math

Same, LOL
Glad 1-D to 3-D PDE got them smoked.
I love the part where they low-key blamed our engineering math lecturer for being "weird" in class.
Hardened dental plaque?
My teacher didn't even need to ask. He just asked the guys who were suspicious of copying some questions and if they couldn't answer then they were dead
Or continuous change of something, e.g., shapes?
That’s calcification. You’re thinking of the tool used to measure the linear dimensions of a hole or object.
i know that it deals with the finding and properties of derivatives and integrals of functions by methods originally based on the summation of infinitesimal differences..........
WOAH
shits memorised
That's basically calculus?
I wish I had these kinds of teachers
Maybe you will find out soon enough. There are all kinds of teachers in college
Yeah, afaik, we use derivatives to find slopes, and we can use integral to find the volume of an object
its memorised.........i dont actually....like Karen Uhlenbeck level understand
mmm....
ig making games is the only thing im good at
Aw
In short, calculus is comprised of limit, continuity, derivative, integral, series, and properties of those things......
That's calipers. You're thinking of the internal diameter of the gun barrel bore.
yeah, that's basically it
biee yall
another way to look at it I guess is from a more geometrical point of view
You get the assignment 🤣😜
cya
Less shitpostily, that's the usual meaning of "calculus", yes
calculus is (in a vague sense) about the geometrical properties of functions, particularly those that can be quantified by some kind of limiting process: is the function increasing/decreasing at some point (derivatives), what's the cumulative area under a function's graph (integrals) etc.
ig this is what happens when i make games during class
but the key thing is the use of limits to define derivatives or the Riemann integral, and that's kind of the common theme you'll see along calculus
how to deal with the "infinite" and "infinitesimal"
Lebesgue integral?
oohh
this is a good summary but I can't stress enough that limits are the key concept behind all of the rest
Am I lost?
since this integral is defined as a supremum of certain things it can also be kinda seen as a limit
a limit of integrals of simple functions even
😭🫡
but usually in a first course on calculus you'll see the Riemann integral, simply because it's easier to understand the definition geometrically
Still looking for that one person who can help me do this weird maths https://discord.com/channels/268882317391429632/1287717984881737789
yall need to learn more physics so my doubts in the physics server get cleared
💀 is there even a rule against that
Kinda falls under the general “don’t be obnoxious” rule of life
vibing real hard with my ukulele and halmos’ finite-dimensional vector spaces
i love its introduction of the tensor product
Cool you have the book
uni library’s copy
no
yes V and W need to be fin dim too
actually, do they?
What is L here
linear maps from V to W
So Hom is the set of all maps from V to W
I mistook it as equivalent to V* for a sec then remembered that's maps from V -> F
Makes sense
that makes sense
okie dokie
<@&268886789983436800> is this okay?
it’s not exactly spam, but..
it's spam

Ello
That's why Vect_k(V,W) is superior
hmm true
While the topic of random algebra notation is on the table, what’s your preference, $\mathbbm{k}^\times$ or $\mathbbm{k}/{0}$
Nope

Because I definitely didn’t get wildly confused for a minute trying to work out what the group of units of a field is earlier
if you're talking about the group of units then k^\times is pretty much always preferred
also worth mentioning k/{0} makes no sense you probably meant to write k{0} or k-{0}
On lined paper, how do you guys write math when dealing with rational numbers?
Uhh I would write it normally if I were using lined paper for some reason
Like a/b or a on top of b
Either is fine
a on top of b you just have to write a bit smaller
For some things this is fine for some things it’s annoying
Yeah, idk if it's me, but it gotta be like mad small
Sure so write a/b then if it’s too small
But this is also death because it's hard to tell what's happening LMAO
You can write this in ways that make it clearer
Like you can write a higher up than b even in an inline fraction like this
If you have an inline expression involving lots of parentheses and also slashes then yeah sometimes this is hard to read
Sometimes I will make the slashes extra bold
Straight up I think best case is just downsizing tf out of your handwriting n doing a on top of b
My issue just stems from poor handwriting I feel
Yeah this is what I generally prefer
You may also consider just not using lined paper
Then the issue goes away
Word, I heard graph paper solos
I like the structure that lines give ngl
If I do blank paper my shit isn't straight yfm
Fair enough, I find them too constraining
I think if you practice writing on blank paper your writing will straighten out
It’s definitely a fixable thing
That's a thought
dotted paper is good too, maybe the best it's just harder to find
it has the benefit of graph paper without having such distractingly bold lines
Word
Yo do u think having numerator on one line n denominator on the next would be kinda aids
Lmaoo word
Hello
So I am trying this different way to make series and have wrote some stuff down
Can anyone read over it and give me some suggestions
And like whether they think coming up with oscillating series like these in this way is useful
I wrote it in there
I would really appreciate it
Please be nice
@pulsar pagoda how do you delete voice packs in honkai star rail on mobile? i'm on ios. my installed voice packs are EN and JP. i'm currently using the JP voice pack. according to a redditor, i should see a delete button when i tap on the EN voice pack. however, i only see a cancel button when i select the EN voice pack.
thats done through the settings
give me a sec
ill need to check on my pc in a bit
i think i did things through the settings?
yeah sec
ill get to it now
I had a fun convo
have not played in a while
But I think there is a setting thats called clear local data or something
the thing i've also heard is that people are able to delete voice packs on desktop, but not on mobile for some reason
it's kinda variable
reddit to the rescue
yeah i looked at that exact thread but it doesn't work
again, not desktop, but mobile
weird
@pulsar pagoda
im googling
i also tried asking on the official honkai star rail discord, but not much luck there either
there are about 100 messages regarding this topic on the HSR discord
yeah
im seeing it is a thing
how much storage is it taking?
HoYoLAB is the community forum for Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd, with official information about game events, perks, fan art, and other exciting content.
they say clearing cache...
~3 gb
but I dont think thats a HSR specific
yeah im about to finish the download then I have to do the JP voice packs
mm
they report the same
this sucks
yeah unfortunate
i've only barely started the game; i don't expect that to be a huge factor tbh
that's good
good way to spend time walking to class from parking
i mean i have a new phone but it's good to optimize every bit of space you can
very inaccessible ik
i had a samsung before i got an iphone hand-me-down
now i have a new iphone
x3
i heard google pixels are good
a lot of people buy it just because it's the only phone that supports grapheneos
pixel?
yeah im reading
@vale plover in my ui I have this
gn
I did this last year, I have a pixel with grapheneOS and it works great, haven't had a problem with it once
best thing imo is google play sandboxing, I can download an app and not give it network permissions
that ends up not just blocking telemetry but also they try to make apps as small as possible so you won't cancel the download - this means they have to download the ads afterwards, but they can't so you can play/use many apps without ads that way
also you don't have all that garbage annoying bloat apps you can't delete too
that sounds nice
gold medalist please help me on this https://discord.com/channels/268882317391429632/1287717984881737789
oh, it's piece of cake.
so what is a good method for that problem
owie i have an x4 pro and i feel it being slow a lot of the time as well
guys
why did this fail? ( I want to draw it in desmos
The left side must be r
you can convert it to 2 graph
still didnt work
Try sin(theta)^3
worked, weird, why lol
Maybe you missed the parenthesis
Try sin^3(theta)
No I mean, It already worked but Idk why the former one sin^3theta doesn't work lol
Maybe you missed the parenthesis around theta
Because theta from 0 to 180 not 0 to 360
what is the reverse of regret im feeling it
feeling that i thought too much about choices that didn't really matter and everything would have turned out about the same either way
meta-regret?
guys i have an idea
what if black holes are just the same as any regular planet, just with a lot of mass
and the reason why it's black is because when atoms are closer together they erratically move faster and faster
and the light can't reflect off of the atoms fast enough because they're moving too fast
nope
aww man
i just thought of it because i had an idea yesterday that anything traveling faster than light speed could just be black because light can't reflect off of it
or the light can't catch up to it i mean
nope
or maybe if you were in the ship it would be pitch black behind you
because the light behind you can't reach you
What in the crackpot hell are you yapping about

Yep. Behind you everything will be black but in front of you everything will be too bright that you can't see anything

At least this is what our current model of physics predicts. We will need to wait for a faster-than or equal-to-light spaceship to test it out
nope
lol
what if photon resolve their position towards eyes? like quantum tunnel through.[maybe a dumb question]
@vale plover im thinking about getting back to genshin impact
i have no plans to play genshin atm
yeah that game will take u years to get into
the amount of stuff that u have to do is insane

Okay
How did they do this approximation?
series expand cos(nx) then generalized binomial theorem
But it's sqrtn cosnx
,, (1+x)^k = 1 + kx + \cdots + \binom kn x^n + \cdots
cloud
applies for any real number k and any real number |x| < 1
A set is open if every point in the set has an open ball contained in the set.
Intuitively, if you have some set A, and let a in A. If you can draw a circle centered at a such that the circle is contained in A for all a then its open
@pulsar pagoda i managed to delete the EN voice pack
nice
strangely, you have to actually be playing the game to delete the voice pack
you can't just do it from the menu
Hitler gets confused about the topological definitions of open and closed sets. Then he totally freaks out.
There's a typo right in the beginning of the video. It should say "...and all zero of the points in the null set," so no "the" before zero. And if you're wondering what I meant by "close points," they are Wikipedia calls "limit points" of...
So what have you come up with in regards to this problem?
I forgot embedded YouTube videos come with ads
On the bright side it seems Google hasn't harvested much in the way of my personal data, because I got an ad for baby wipes.
That must mean a stork will give you a baby soon!
Also comparing ||people who think "open vs closed" is a dichotomy|| to Hitler is a point of view I fully endorse.
hi guys
I mean, that's one of the more realistic ways that would happen, to be sure.
Isn't that how babies come to be?
I have a problem that keeps me from sleeping, and I need your support.
According to some school curriculums, yes

Kinda random, but I urge you to read the case of marcellus Williams. Things like that are unjustifiable. If you can, vote, and if not, make noise for things like this to change
That one was genuinely hilarious
I'm quite oposed to that idea actually

if one were to denote the radius of a cylinder with z and the height with a, then the formula for how much pizza you have becomes clear: pi(z*z)a
by the reflexive property, 1+1=1+1

Looking to get into calculus on Khan Academy from algebra 2/trig ASAP (albeit my basis in algebra is a bit weak now), would you guys recommend I start with the "Get Ready for Precalculus" course and then move onto AP Calculus AB/BC?
sounds good
you can probably skim over the precalc course and focus more on the things you struggle with e.g. algebra type things
and then move to calc when youre ready
if you're not taking the class in a school bc is just ab with more content and the only reason they're separated as separate classes with bc having all of ab but more as college board intends it to be calc 1 and calc 2 but if you're self studying this is completely irrelevant to you, and yes this is confusing
Yes, this server is very gay.
yes, yes they are
i need to finish this one.
i remember seeing the beginning of it and it was great
Yes, She-Ra is a fantastic show
ddg
He's a historian, so he rarely thinks of math at all
Eat shower then sleep
also yes
Make him
Kinda aiming to thoroughly complete precalc just as a good review, im up for debate on whether or not i start with the "Get ready for precalculus" course or just dive into precalc
Want an overall really strong base going in
oh I see. Just dive into precalc then -- the "get ready for precalc" course seems like it's the same content but explained more thoroughly, so if you're stuck with precalc maybe you can check the same content in the "get ready" course
We've gone the other way, he got me interested in bits of history
2 and i am not gay i am just right and love the number 2
Indeed, I'm one of the few STEM people who believe that as a society, we neglect humanities at our peril.
mwahaha i hope you’ll both keep cooking
good!
it is indeed very sad how so many stem people are like aggressivelt anti-humanities
history is quite interesting, not to mention valuable

is that so?
okay well, what do we mean by “anti-humanities”?
one of the (emeritus) profs at my department is so based and claims in one of his books mathematics without its history is like a horror movie without audio

I can understand not personally liking them, but not actively denying that they are useless

yeah but it’s the latter i’m talking about
i used to be such a stem kid when i didnt know much better
and i’m not saying that stance is universal, but does have a strong presence
often coupled with like nearly fetish-levels of technomania
unis have the dual function of grinding these kids down to normal ppl and also letting these kids fester
anyone have any recommendations on getting better at math 😭
I’m more of a science dude myself but I only recently became interested in mathematics
Make sure you know your basics
Fair enough, any other recommendation? I’m trying to get both better academically and well for fun
Once you get good at highschool level then you could start reading textbooks on each topic ig
science requires mathematics
you, by definition, cannot be a "science dude" without a strong understanding of mathematics
that's too harsh
org chem tutor on YouTube does algebra 1/2 and introductory calculus well
Never met aristotle. I would argue what he did is not meaningfully distinct from science.
Biology exists 👍
Bio still requires mathematics, my friend
Science dude as in interested into science.
Yeah and what about when you start digging and you see it's all maths in a trenchcoat
Everything does?
Everything revolves around math
Yep
Which is why I’m trying to dig deeper into it
Computer science, biology (not so much), chemistry, physics
Everything requires math, my point is that you don’t need to be completely strong in mathematics. You just need to know the fundamentals.
agreed
it's super important to avoid an all-or-nothing approach
focus on understanding specific bits that are related to things that interest you!
the rest will come eventually
not really
I don't think it's possible to be scientifically literate without also having some minimal level of mathematical literacy
as in, they're trying to improve their maths for that reason
you, by definition, cannot be a "science dude" without a strong understanding of mathematics
I'm referring to this comment being too hard actually
okok
Can't believe I missed this yesterday. Am I allowed to say 2 if I'm bisexual?

oh no I googled it and it gave me super weird vibes nope nope nope nope
in case you were wondering the safest one is mechanophile

I forgot that was a thing
I think there's also dragons fucking planes?
lots of super awesome stuff like that
and the artists who get commissioned to make it prob make sweet sweet furry money so
Honestly can't blame them
lmfao I had a friend who did commissions for shit like this and made good money
eventually the money was not enough and he needed therapy for some of the shit he saw and drew
Ahhhh gotcha, thanks for the advice!
Im starting to work on Polignac's conjecture
Wish me luck 😭 🙏
number theory gives us nightmares
is it normal to forget basic stuff like finding the vertex of a function and stuff like that while taking college courses?
🔥
we have quite frequently; then we proceed to throw overpowered methods at the problem and it somehow works
That makes me feel better
depends on how often you're forgetting this
it's normal to forget stuff like this sometimes, but maybe not so good if never remember it
I mean I hadn't thought or used this in a very long time, it just kind of caught me off guard because of how easy it is
we forgot how to find the vertex of a quadratic recently and pulled out the second derivative test 💀
technically, first derivative would have been enough ig because quadratics only have one inflection point
LMAO
i'm secretely plotting to find someone on the department to teach me number theory mwahaha
how could you do something so evil
so relentless
it's only been like 80 years since selberg left surely the tradition can't have just entirely faded >:S
it's so sad, literally no number theory course
oh actually i just found there was a course taught once some years ago
oh oof thats rough
Selberg is shambles
tfw I thought my uni was weird for not having number theory then there is rodbet's uni where people like selberg and brun were there and still no number theory

Spent longer than I should on 7 math questions and it made me realize that I struggle at math because I only focus on how to solve things and not why
I just watch what the guy in the video does and in my mind I go “this question on my hw looks like this so I’ll just do this!”.
There’s no deeper understanding so it doesn’t embed itself into my memory
Right now I am in community college, want to pursue a PhD in computer science, am eager (and passionate) to get ahead on my studies in regards to the math. I have plenty of curriculum and know what to the learn, I am just not sure exactly how I know if im, good at discrete maths? When do you decide when self learning math, you've reached the required skill level to move on?
I don't move on until I've completed a lab or project that uses the method or formula. I encountered a similar issue previously. During my calculus course, the concepts were not clear to me until I engaged in a construction role focused on low-voltage systems. I am now capable of calculating the necessary conduit volume (using washer method for finding the volume of a solid of revolution) to accommodate 40 cables per floor across four floors, given that each cable has a diameter of 5.8 mm. Additionally, I can determine the total amount of cable required for procurement. This calculation is predicated on the configuration of two Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDFs) per floor, with half of the total cables from each floor directed to IDF A and half to IDF B. The distribution of cable lines is as follows: three lines for studios, four lines for one-bedroom units, six lines for two-bedroom units, and eight lines for three-bedroom units, within a building that contains 160 rooms. The room ratios per wing (representing half a floor) are structured as 4:3:2:1 for studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units, respectively. It's about a six month project to complete 4 buildings with 3 people.
Hey there! I have recently started a blog dedicated on undergraduate mathematics. Of course, it can be used by high schoolers as well.
Here's the blog: https://maths-metropolis-walker.blogspot.com/?m=1
I need some reviews about the contents. Are they really understandable? Any question are always welcome.
If they are of any help you may want to follow my blog by clicking the "Follow" button . You know if people follow my blog I will really get a green signal to continue what I'm doing. It acts a great source of motivation! Without any followers or support, I am loosing motivations and having doubts about whether my blog is of any help to others not. If it's not of any help, I'll consider shutting it down.
what is the internet?
a bunch of autonomous systems peered with BGP to route IP between them
this looks like kinda ai generated text
in that blog
Have I written it so well?
Thanks for the compliment tho!
np
but am I correct?
im trying to understand what you wrote there tbh
cause it says "now" a lot and then things getting confusing after now now now
No that's a joke. It's not AI generated or like that. Actually, it's a habit of mine of using the word, "Now" while making a sequence of logical statements LOL. But where does it get confusing? Mind telling me more about it? These remarks help me to bring more clarity in my content.
maybe im just dumb idk
I was thinking about this
No ur not.
Yes, and which portion seems confusing?
after "now"
my day so far: half an hour of doing some uneccessary and long calculations that when i checked afterwards were spectacularily wrong, and an hour of sitting in the autumn sun in the campus’ herb garden slowly sipping some coffee
it is a good day
Well, in general if we have $ad\equiv bd\pmod k$ then, this can be written as $a\equiv b\pmod{ \frac{k}{\gcd(k,d)}}$
Franklin244
Doing unnecessary and long calculations that turn out ot be spectacularly wrong is very much the mathematics experience, at pretty much any level.
am still sitting outside vibing with the many bees and wasps that come sit on me fsr
And now you need to retrace ALL of your steps
i really had no good reason to do those calculations so i won’t bother finding the mistake(s)
No we submit the wrong calculation and Gaslight the math community to believe that it's right ~~thats what happened to complex numbers ~~
Indeed, Cardano didn't notice that he'd accidentally taken the square root of a negative number, and was too stubborn to admit his mistake, and now here we are.
Delusional numbers.
Get real fr
I missed the chance to see how math community would react when complex mumber was first introduced

That sounds like a "YOU" problem tbh
I would have ran away in fear
they are very chill as long as you don't make them feel threathened
Yeah. Bee wouldn't randomly sting you
Wasps on the other hand...
I don't think there was much controversy around them, especially compared to stuff like Cantor's theories on infinity or the uncovering of paradoxes in set theory.
I think there was quite some drama over the autorship of the solutions to cubic or quartic equations, and complex numbers play into that a bit
@vast wraith can probably say more
that's a very funny story
i very much recommend øystein ore's biography of cardano
it's a great read
he talks a little but not a lot about complex numbers, just like negative numbers they have probably been around in calculations for a long time but they would not be like something you used in public, as their ontological status was seen as dubious (and they placed a lot of emphasis of this strict correspondence between mathematical and physical entities)
Which is interesting, because I feel the ontology issue entirely goes away once you interpret complex numbers as points on the plane.
They admittedly don't make much intuitive sense as "quantities", the geometric perspective is much more helpful
ahem i just realized i forgot a “not” in the above, fixed now
but i should get to work i’ve been goofing about for three hours now woops
Ok, but which part are you having trouble understanding? What I wrote earlier is just a theorem or a lemma. If you want to prove it yourself you can prove it, it's definitely worth the try!
Maybe see how this works with some integers as an example. It often helps! Mathematics is not a spectator sport sometimes!
ight
?
it means alright but in a lazy way
Oh ok... 😅
Many have been asking me the same thing. I am thinking about it. Do you want a content and guide on linear algebra?
Ok. I'll try to finish it in 2 or 3 days. Don't worry. Btw, if you need any help with the subject u may ping me. I'll have no problem with it. And ofc I will start with the basics.
ight
When I'll be done with writing it, I will post the update in this channel.
Can someone explain something to me
I wanna ask something
So aside from application in physics, is lorentz transformation useful for any other field like programming, control system or stuff?
(I'm consider learning it once I finished with basic atoms physics and Classical physics)
mostly useful in stuff where speed of light and relativity are actually a constraint/concern you need to worry about afaik
stuff like satellite mechanics, astronomy, very modern transistor design
higher! 🎵
i'm feeling good. i'd like some ice water and more energy!
slide revisions due soon!
yay! love to see it!
my dietician gave me a mantra to say on a timer today.
well, i said i'd say it on a timer or when eating
we're hoping it'll help me eat more c:
i think i'll clean up for 15m, eat a bit, and then revise my slides
how are you, higher?
oh, this is discussion-2!
haha

I’m doing well!
Fridays are always good days for me haha

Three rulers and two pencils cost £3.10
Two rulers and five pencils cost £3.90
Work out the cost of a ruler and the cost of a pencil.
SHUT UP 🗣️
Rude
I still have a bunch of these stuff for about 6 years
and im not using them anymore

$\begin{pmatrix} R \ P \end{pmatrix} = \begin{pmatrix} 3 & 2 \ 2 & 5 \end{pmatrix}^{-1} \begin{pmatrix} 3.1 \ 3.9 \end{pmatrix}$
Emily
Are you doing a square well?

random thought but is there a proof that if you take the numbers 1-9, you can't make 3 equations using each numbers once of x+y=z
The proof is bruteforcing
you can certainly make progress by considering mod three
ive reduced the possible solutions to either the zs must be 3, 6, 9 or are each different mod 3
I think we can do it by adding all the equations together, best case scenario has the smallest 6 numbers paired to make the 3 largest numbers but 6*7/2 > 7+8+9
pretend that makes sense, proofed 😌
yep aha nice
wait
its not true...
but some minor modification is probably good
we can say we must have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 among the xs and ys
ok no theres an even easier way aha
1 + .. + 9 = 45 is not divisible by two, thats all you need
that doesn't prove anything either
inequalities basically live in a different world than modular arithmetic
oh I think I misunderstood what you were saying
we could take each equation, write them as x+y-z=0 and then add them all up mod 2 and we get 1=0 mod 2 since there are 5 odd numbers.
if it wasn't what you meant I'll just give you the benefit of the doubt anyways
Yeah basically
a + b + c + d + e + f = h + i + j
Then 45 = 1 + ... + 9 = a + ... + f + h + i + j = 2(h + i + j) to be overly explicit
Euler was pretty good at math
Yeah. This guy should consider become a "professional" mathematician
ig
I guess so, too
but then he will not even be able to feed his family
insert pizza feeding a family joke
Euler was in fact very well paid in st petersburg, they acknowledged his talents and just let him cook

interesting ,luckily they let him cook
Idk how true this is but I remember seeing something like this a while back lmfao
The only mathematician that can extort the royalty
oh well he could buy another house with that money
(for what it's worth, 3k Ruble back then is around $120k USD today)
not a bad annual salary

If I want to be an "expert" in analysis and algebra, the Math Major is my best option?
I am also interested in cool engineering things, like electronic circuits or programming. But I feel the need of study both subjects in depth.
I live in Mexico, so, the concept of Major and minor in the Universities doesn´t exist. You choose a whole grade of 4-6 years and that's it, you can't combine subjects between grades.
Well, there are optative subjects that are "far" from the main grade. For example, in the study plans of Mathematics grade there are often 2 or 3 Physic's grade optative subjects, like classical mechanics or electromagnetism. But that is so far away like the flexibility that the universities in US offer.
I know that the Engineering grades have Calculus and Linear Algebra subjects in the curricula, but in my experience on a Engineering grade in Mexico, both ones aren't treat with deep, just mechanizing the formulas of Calculus and the Matrix Operations, but don't seeing so much of cool theory.
For engineering degree, those course are computational-based not proof-based. If you want to study it more in-depth. You should consider follow math degree
it is interesting to compare with Jacobi, who came from a very well off aristocratic family, but as the socio-political climate shifted throughout his life, he found it more and more difficult to provide for himself and he eventually joined the political revolutionary side
Math: "i'm gonna prove that this works"
Engineer: "someone proved that this works. I'm gonna use it to build X thing"
historically it’s often been the other way around as well
fourier famously was rather mad at mathematicians complaining that the theory of fourier series didn’t have much of a rigorous example when its virtues was plenty clear from its success in physical application
Does anyone have something enjoyable to do for the weekend?
Analytic number theory
learning or just practicing?
Both

Deltoid autistic
:3
What are you up to vero?
Buy groceries
Eep
rip
yep
If I don't have any clue tomorrow
I will ask in RCA
or I will go mental for sure
When does next term start for you btw?
Wdym
school?
I don't go to school :3
I thought you were in uni
nu
Hm
@latent edge what are u up today
Tedious homework, slamming desk when applying to internships
then analytic number theory to get back my sane mind
@solid yarrow
ping :3
._.
You stuck too?
Analytic number theory?
Yeah it's a research problem
....

Yes
How do you deal with it?
Like ofc work on it for a bit. But what if you don't see a route (which is why it's a research problem to being with)?
Just work on a different one :3
...
I usually read a lot of papers around the problem and see if something comes to mind
I am currenlty working on solving improper integrals in CA. And I get stuck on every single one.

Is it for school?
My insanity level is increasing as we speak
