The more algebraic angle (stuff about finite fields, maybe even hint at modules, but then on the other hand normed spaces, maybe some cool applications to e.g. probability or error correction). And I change my mind a lot wrt the order I wanna do things in. One thing I've entertained slightly is to do systems of linear equations first, just to say oh, this system of linear equations can be written as Ax=b. Oh hmm this is linear in x... this leads us to the idea of vector spaces and linear maps in general!

• Vector spaces (definition of vector space, examples, subspaces, sums)
• Linear maps (definition of linear map, examples, kernels and images)
• Quotients and first isomorphism theorem
• Linear combinations/span, linear (in)dependence, bases and dimension
• Dictionary between linear maps and matrices (expressing a linear map in a basis, change of basis)
• Row reduction and LU decomposition

Ngl I kinda wanna do multilinear algebra now, followed by linear operators/eigenstuff/polynomials/structure theory, and finally normed/inner product spaces

*Shenanigans here meaning, there's a case to be made to talk about systems of linear equations first, and then say oh look that's a matrix equation Ax=b, oh look if you think of matrix multiplication as a map then it satisfies these properties, now this will be our roadmap to defining vector spaces and linear maps. But this is tricky to set up correctly

I'm agonizing a bit since it feels jumping into multilinear algebra so early is a bit ballsy, but you really want determinants once you start talking about characteristic polynomials, and it feels like too long of an interlude to discuss eigenvalues and minimal polynomials, oh hahahah stop here let's do determinants, okay back to char poly

Well, in an earlier chapter, the five metric spaces they give as eamples are R^1, R_d (discrete metric), R^n, l^\infty, and l^2. So I think the author might be referring to those 🙂
