Wow, you hate marginalized people that much?
???
Not everyone grew up in a community that afforded them the privilege of an education
Uh you're clearly able to read my messages so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to read #❓how-to-get-help
Seems slightly contradictory?
Im simply requesting for you to ask for help in the appropriate channels
Kinda crazy you write all these words but a simple Yes or No is above your pay grade
Nah brother
I used those "appropriate" channels.
My question from 10 years ago is still yet to be answered
Im not trying to encourage people to ask for help in the wrong channel
literally just a simple Yes or No question
showed all the work and the work was correct
10 years later and no one has replied "yes" yet
kinda sad
Hello
People help out of their kindness and time. If you do not receive help, then, I don't think there's a much better way to put it than the fact that it is what it is sometimes. The last time I used a help channel I waited 5 days and I did not once advertise my help channel. Im
I'm sorry that happened to you
People are so evil
Bruh
People are not entitled to help you, you realise that right
I know
um
It is a privileged to help me
Can someone pin this LMFAO
Sounds like such a classsic discussy moment
Yeah at this point i don't think this conversation is productive
So imma head out
Cya later. I hope you grow out of your hate for marginalized people
about anything
how unfortunate
I just don't know what to do anymore
I got nothing 😦
All i had was brenda and the kids
now they're all gone
Its all gone
Everything is gone
I don't even know
Everything was perfect
We've been together since highschool
20 years of lovely marriage
then everything just changed
soo you are around 38
I don't know why but one day she just changed you know?
or above
I'm 2000 years old
It is not strange
yes not at all
please Stop
Physics is just as important as maths
hello again
could i listen to a topic you enjoy
bruh tf is going on here
i muted for stuff from prior so i apologize if i interrupted a convo
metalninja
im not sure what topics you might like that i enjoy
i like minecraft and xenoblade chronicles
any i will listen
wdym by listen
Hi metal
i wouldnt if u poked me in the eye
but goodbye chat
bruh
Bai
this is the most weirdest convo
bye
but bai
touch grass
Its a discusst convo lol
can i listen to anothers interests
Very funny 🗿
Sure I can agree with that
Why would you use "these people" to refer to physicists then
I was directing that towards your comment that "phy superior"
I just like using bra ket notation
Was in response to this, that's all
Sure but you could have expressed your opinions more nicely
To be fair your phrasing with "severely annoyed" might have made you seem a certain way I guess
Anyways Im gonna go do stuff now
Why did I even come to discussy
What are the advantages of antilinearity in the second entry?
What about the third
Step out of the bra-ket
Into better notation
Kuwuby
Which one are you referring to?
I still prefer angular brackets, though (with comma instead of the vertical bar)
eigenzan
But, coming back to antilinearity in the first vs. second argument, I generally agree with the answer in this MSE post: https://math.stackexchange.com/questions/4203532/why-did-mathematicians-choose-the-inner-product-to-be-linear-in-the-first-argume
Oh neat, I see what the conversation is about now
I just made a cheap notation joke
It is now standard that vectors are identified with column vectors while covectors are identified with row vectors. Thus, the standard inner product on Rn is written in terms of matrix product as x⃗ T⋅y⃗ (and cannot be written as x⃗ ⋅y⃗ T).
Why can't you write an inner product over the reals as x y^T
x y^T would be a rank-1 matrix, not a scalar
I apologise if I sound like a dumbass but what's wrong with that
I understand its relevance on C
But not on R
Watson
Matrix multiplication
There is a distinction between $1\times n$ row matrices with real or complex entries and elements of $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ and $\mathbb{C}^{n}$
dimensions
384920
It's all good, don't worry about it
Yeah I was only thinking of the the conjugation of the vector
Not the fact that it literally produces a 3 by 3 matrix with dependent columns like a moron
Oh whoops I forgot about this part as well
I was thinking of something like $x^{T}y$ but that's right, you end up with an $n\times n$ matrix instead
384920
Yes, the inner product (x^T y) is not the outer product (x y^T)
It makes more sense if you see it in the context of tensors

who here can help me with some math
Formula~Nova~12
then i gotta wake up and go to school to do the test
That likes less than a minute
Go to #help-15 and send your message one what you need help on
Wait, what type of math is this?
you can afford to spend 10 minutes to figure out how it's done
Bruh lol
sex cam
lmao
i have one brain cell
serious response though idk what kind of support this discord has for multilingual questions. best i can say is #❓how-to-get-help and help that a multilingual helper will appear
(or google translate)
<@&268886789983436800>
already banned but the msgs somehow didnt delete
anyone wanna help me with 4 questions for ap stats ?
bro wdf going on here
@mild hill so anyhow
I don't think I've seen many interested in industrial design around here
you can maybe find communities online where you can ask how much math you need
the best you can find here (most likely) is for someone to direct you to khanacadem.com where you can learn all pre uni mathematics
what's not openning?

and the only thing that makes me feel like alive
and you can certainly spend a lifetime studying it :3
everything is boring
thats what im talking about
thanks a lot man !
i appreciate u so mcuh
Idk I think someone said something in French and I didn't realize that was against rules
So I just made fun of the last two words of the sentence coincidentally being sex cam
i think he was promoting something
involved with it
yeah he was promoting a software named sex cam
np
LMAO
and he also had the audacity to do it in a maths server lol
afternoon
Hello again guys
I have question for you
Do you know any app for math
Like
But full free
Or should I use sites on my pc ?
How I need learn math for 6 grade to 9
Because I skip a lot 😭😭😔😞
Maybe try Khan academy math
bro you're part of them
I don't want to disturb disc1 so I'll ask here
I have a really weird question that, may or may not relate to math
I have no clue

I am here from a videogame discord, and there's currently a lot of theorizing in the community. I'm researching a recurring type of shape that lends itself to a lot of symbolism but I am not sure where the type of shape is from.
I feel like it's a mathematical shape but I'm not certain, it looks erratic
But somebody else agreed it looked vaguely mathematical
So I was wondering if any here could verify if it is something mathematics related or not
sure
I'll post the images in #chill
hi
Why do people show their activity status on discord?
Because you need to know how hard I'm grinding
no point
I would understand if you are playing Hogwarts Legacy
to flex
or some other expensive game
a friend could join in if you're playing a particular game
like a particular friend of mine would always call me when i'd play any souls like games
What about visual studio or any other programming idle?
huh, tbh i have not seen anyone do that
really?
So they don't ping you with random BS while you're trying to work
Not sure how effective that would be
Nah I dont think so
tbf most of my friends are math people, not cs
there is dont disturb on discord
and my cs friends are not people who'd do stuff like that
well not talking about your friends
Which does nothing
talking in general
I'm constantly on DnD, I still get ping notifs
I also like pings, so I'm not complaining
@zealous garden
Co op in souls games seems weird
Because I played the only souls game without co op lmao
anyone using linux?
Actually dark souls seems extremely cheesable
Me, I daily drive Artix
Unfortunately it's a PS4 exclusive
For now
Yes
What about compared to software companies?
whats reasonably well
how much?
Well I heard software companies pay like 100k USD on average
not necessarily co op, we also like to watch each other's gameplays while doing other things on the side
lol
tfw not enough social interaction to be nitride yet (not gonna ping)
chud gayi
Hello
taking over discussion 2 one person at a time
they do
alot of my friends are making well over that out of college
hard to get but alot of people do
Hey
hey
sup
hey yall
PS4? is that some kind of projective space?

its a game console
hello
am=f?
?????????
vm = p???
p=power m=mass v=velocity then yes
)============(:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::>
^._.^<

Don't post random server links here please
It's a cat
to be honest I haven't touched math in a while, but I have an appreciation for its logic and complexity
What
Close, but mass times velocity isn't power
You usually use an uppercase p for power
What are you researching?
we'll see
gl
this is the intro meeting for him to decide if he wants me or not

thx thx
Oh. Is his research in pure mathematics or something more applied?
pure
Alright
yes but i dont understand it so well
my guess

becuase is the highest derivate
but i am not 100% sure
I see ryc
Hello
fish
it went well :)
congrats!!
Going to graduate this summer so downloaded several pdfs of advanced mathematics books using the university resource system
Books of category theory, type theory, computability theory, model theory, abstract information theory and advanced measurement theory are quite hard to come by over here
Don't know if I'll ever get to understand all of them but in termd of getting the resource (legitimately) it's pretty much now or never
does anybody have a revision village math AI gold account that I can borrow for some time?
idk what's fornite?
The American spelling of fortnight

Lmao
does that generate S_4
indeed, it has a transposition and a cycle
facts
we tiptoing
we are hiding
swonky
did we move here
i have no idea of all the cores
WHY IS SLOMO BACK IN DISCUSSY 1 UGHHHHHH
there was a kerfuffle
dont jinx it
old discourse -> new discourse -> old discourse -> new discourse
And that's what a tranposition is fellas
Lmfao 2 minutes slowmode in the other channel
🙂 > 😦
also they want the email of a school teacher
all of my teachers hate me with a passion
js
ngl u dont even need it
u can get in without it if ur good enough
which u are
lmao bro 💀
yes
wait wth
1k for a hs camp?
They legit cost us $5 in middle school, granted it was just a stay at another school
that's how math camps are though
sumac wants 8k ross wants 6k promys wants 6k etc
ofc u can apply for fin aid but idk how that works out
Can we have more talks like #events message ?
They're super cool and I wish they can be like a routine thing or something
Biweekly/monthly perhaps..
Is that already in place?
who's gonna host them
what people?
like, if you wanna host a talk, then you can contact the mods
it's not like the mods are actively stopping people from hosting talks
No I thought the community could host regular talks
not me i dont really have the knowledge yet (which is why i think these talks are so captivating n people can benefit a lot from them)
I think it'd be a cool thing to have it routinely
No i meant more of an active approach (i.e. scheduled talks, inviting people to talk about certain topics) instead of waiting for a volunteer.
whom are we gonna invite
i'm not very well-versed with who's who in the community so I can't really give an answer. I'm sure the mods know better on who's the expert on what. Maybe them
finding an appropriate topic is also very difficult
Well I'm sure the details could be figured out later.
again this is just a suggestion
it's not like I already have every little detail in mind
imo suggestions don't really help if they are not thought out
like I agree that it could be cool to have regular talks
but it's just very hard to make that happen
I could host a talk on newton okounkov bodies in a couple of months but I doubt that anyone would want to hear it
Well I disagree. Suggestions are starting points and you don't need every single detail thought out, especially if you are not in a place of authority (i.e. being a moderator/admin) or if you don't precisely know the climate/details of the community. I've been in the server for a long time, yes, but I haven't interacted that much with the people here to know who's the expert on what, nor is my knowledge sufficient to distinguish what topics are appropriate for the general audience of this server.
That's why it's an idea
this requires people to do the talks
we cant really force people to give talks
its one of the long term goals to have a more active talk structure
but its very hard with how most of the users here are highschool students
I will give a talk once I know enough math to give an interesting talk
see you tomorrow
Actually wait I'll give a talk after I graduate from undergrad. That's in like 5 weeks or something.
but yeah if you have ideas how to get more people to host talks, hit me up lol
in general my reply is "be the change you want to see"
(i do not follow this advice myself)
I wasn't thinking of 'forcing' them to give talks, more like making a list of upcoming talks with various topics and asking people with knowledge of these topics to give talks (volunteering). However the demographic issue is a valid concern I agree.
we have no upcoming talks 😭
Hopefully soon xD (read: a few more years)
Maybe some kind of a reward system? Like, a special coloured role for people who have given n talks, for some positive integer n?
what if you're french
Well I'm not but I don't see what that has to do with this idea either
0 is positive in french
I meant, the mods pick some n. I was thinking in the 3-5 range, and the role would be called maybe something like "frequent presenter".

i dont know if the intersection of people who want colored roles and people who we want to give talks is that big
but its worth considering (at some point...)
it contains me
Purple is nitro, blue is active/very active/mod, yellow is honorable, green is helper
Maybe orange or red?
Pretty good idea actually
i think we will discuss what color to paint the shack last
interesting...
I mean it won't do everything overnight immediately, but I don't see the harm and it provides at least some incentive for people to think about it
Maybe also periodically putting out a call for abstracts
Like, ping @ everyone or @ talks and say, "we're looking for people interested in giving talks please consider giving a talk"
didnt want to make it sound like im shooting down your idea
its worth considering something like this
though we wont ping everyone
Too many random highschool students in this server
That makes sense
Maybe @ advanced or @ grad+?
To quality-control
@ talks sounds cool, like a lecture on certain subjects. And maybe you could give them for all levels (late highschool->college grad).
interesting doesn't mean advanced
what are your opinions on watching 5 hour videos on precalculus? (full length)
brb preparing to give a lecture on graduate algebraic geometry in this server
🫵
"interesting" means "something that I don't yet know, but is attainable for me to learn". But that's what it means for everyone, so I guess everything I know is interesting to whoever's going to learn it next.
you really want everyone to know you're doing graduate algebraic geometry don't you?
yea, exactly
you should give a talk on how to compute the ring of integers of quadratic number fields
@woven whale
Given $\mathbb{Q}[\sqrt{D}]$, what's the modulus of $D$ mod 4? Alright there done that's the whole talk
so you're not presenting the talk to yourself, but to other people hence interesting is w/e is high in demand
Zorn's Lemon
Yeah. I'll need to sit down and think about what to present on
Part of the problem is this past year I haven't been doing as much math as I'd've liked because I needed to get other graduation requirements out of the way
I think I know what I want to present on
I have two topics in mind actually
but I don't wanna say what till I start working on them
I can start tmrw mayhaps
mean
i considered giving a talk on umineko for april fool's day
but then i realized i had no idea how to make it funny
alas...
...
shiver…
i should give a talk on Fourier series to highschoolers who know calc
wait honestly that might not be a bad idea
however i really dont want to try to say thinfs without some linear algebra sadness
maybe i can figure out how to share the idea anyways to hsers
does anyone have tips for studying? most of the time when I study math I'm either copying down the entire textbook (notes are a meme at this point) or I just do the entire exercise set in a dedicated notebook. In my other classes I can summarize concepts or rephrase them etc. to ensure I understand the idea, but in my math courses I just read a definition and keep doing problems with it until I've memorized it
this server has so many roles and channels. prior to being able to customize channel views I often found myself lost looking for a channel (Ctrl+k saves me for the most part now, but on mobile it'll be scrolling marathon).
What's the shtick exactly? Trying to give some talk to hs calc students... In what setting?/what's the goal?
the schtick might be like an alternative to taylor series maybe
i could show some examples where its useful in physical settings idk
I mean what's the overarching theme supposed to be
hmm some vague thoughts might be like decomposing things into pieces and figuring out things from the pieces
Okay let me ask point blank does it have to be Fourier?
It doesnt need to be no
That's what I mean by theme
Are you advertising math to these guys?
Is there some agenda the teacher inviting is hoping to accomplish
Etc
o i was thinking about in this server lol not like irl
if it was irl things would be way more difficult to figure out
im not even sure what id do for an irl talk at a ha
hs
Definitely not fourier analysis stuff
Ah you wanna give a talk here
yahh
i am a little less worried about trying to advertise anything in particular but more so just outlining something that might be cool
and reflects some nice idea in math
Yeah I mean I was thinking if it was to a high school irl and you were advertising why math is cool
Right
Then that would influence it a bit
And your crowd is, anyone here who's interested and knows calculus
right
the way i was introduced to taylor series in calc 1 was through function approximations. e.g. we saw how to approximate a function with a linear and quadratic approximation and they put it in a neat form so the more clever students would realize it could be generalized
Isn't there a proof using Taylor series that e is irrational, in fact maybe transcendental?
they have this at uni for hs stuff if you are interested: https://math.illinois.edu/illinois-geometry-lab/summer-illinois-mathematics-camp
current students can volunteer to teach concepts to interested highschoolers
i forgot what the content can cover each year
its probably elementary number theory or something
yeah probably
the math department has so many dead links i cant find info
X_X
here are the topics
wait, I can't post images in #serious-discussion anymore?
Counting Pigeons and Other Problem Solving Techniques (8-10th grade)
Tropical Geometry (8-10th grade)
Making and Breaking Codes: Cryptography (8-10th grade)
Maximize Your Winnings: Using Math to Understand Games (8-10th grade)
Beyond 1,2,3: How Mathematicians Count (8-10th grade)
From Snowflakes to Seashells: Exploring Fractals (10-12th grade)
Number Theory and Cryptology (10-12th grade)
Mathematical Biology (10-12th grade)
When a Straight Line Curves: The Geometries of Space (10-12th grade)
cool
Students will explore questions such as, “What happens when the angles of a triangle no longer sum to 180 degrees?” or “what does it mean to be a straight line?”. Students will imagine living in hyperbolic or spherical space, discovering for themselves the challenges presented by these unfamiliar geometries. By the end of the week, we will understand tilings and students will create their own hyperbolic and spherical art to take home.
this is cool
and yeah one of them is number theory. of course fractals lol
cryptography almost a given too i guess
How can a triangle not sum to 180 degrees?
Is that even possible?
When it is not a triangle
it is possible
though not in euclidean geometry
you can just imagine a triangle on earth
the angle sum will be "a bit more"
notice that the straight lines here are great circles
similarly in hyperbolic geometry the angle sum will be "a bit less"
though that is harder to visualize
yeah that way yepyep
H
yo, anyone here who's been trying to apply for a research internship under a prof in math?
biggie cheese
I'm in a bus with a toddler
The driver has been going on a 40 for 15 minutes now
Fucking kill me
Why does this remind of a horror series
Basically it's about people just driving on and on
And at the end they end up at a creepy random location
And are killed there
yes they will be killed soon
Look up TW(?):||Local 58 on Youtube||
hello
hi
can anyone host a talk?

i mean mods have to approve it first
so like it would have to be really in good faith and i dont know if we would approve some random person who never talked in the server to give a talk
hmm
that makes sense
wait
why can't I add images?
that's not a triangle though
the lines have to be straight all viewed from the same point
then its a triangle
that is not a triangle
Idk haven't looked into that much
I do algebra more
they are straight
^
are the help channels restricted to just homework questions?
No, but questions on ongoing exams are not allowed
alright, good to know
please don't spam in this channel
hi
lmfao trigger warning for local 58
physics nerds are better than CS nerds
I could maybe modify some of the talks I've given for my math + algos club for a math discord talk
probably, yes
i dont have a good grasp of the audience here
(maybe thats something we should address, figure out who wants talks and on what kind of topics / at what level)
It'd probably be higher level than what the average talk is for sure
I'd want to add more detail for sure
but the talks I make are targeted at those maybe only now taking discrete math
since that allows me to hit a broader audience (since it's a new club it's quite small)
Hello everyone, my name is Tucker and I am a highschool student. I am currently working on a project where I have a brief interview (quick chat over background questions about job and overall satisfaction) with someone working in a career where math is used daily. Whatever the career may be the math used should be algebra II or higher. If anyone is willing to take the time, please shoot me a dm. Thanks!
Any idea?
Investigate the problem of food waste in school cafeterias and develop a
model to minimize waste while maintaining nutritional standards and student satisfaction. Consider factors such as portion sizes, menu variety, food
preferences, and scheduling constrain

Maybe if we separate out people according to interest, maturity and then create talks etc....that might work.
all of those things change and you can't judge people from first impression
ADD ME PLZ 😦 😦
add you where?
linux is serisouly good for desktop
at least for me
Why wouldn't you use windows
I've been using linux for 3 years now : D
Cuz windows is 🤮
There's a learning curve to everything. Linux is WAY more flexible than windows and you can, in principle, mould it into whtever the hell u desire. With windows, all you get is what they give u.
Can't you do some shenanigans with windows registry
So it's technically possible to customize Windows, I think
It still wouldn't be anywhere near as flexible as linux tho
no, actually i feel like linux is easier to use.
i just can type stuff in my terminal and i get whatever i want
on linux mint that i am using, you can use the software manager
so there's also GUI and stuff in case u don't know how to use the terminal
linux in general gives you more tools to control your computer
windows has very big issues with like
there are a dozen menus that all do the same thing
and some of them havent been updated since 1995
so finding the correct thing to click is really hard and nobody really knows how it works
linux is pretty simple
and interacting with the terminal is very simple
and if you need help you can just copy paste commands from a help site into terminal
instead of having to read page long instructions on how to navigate obscure menus
Bro wrote an essay damn
you can but windows registry is so bad; its filled with just random junk and very weird to use
linux's "everything is a text file" is much better
maybe something like a registry is a good idea, if you have very clear guidelines on whats supposed to be in there
but the windows registry is just filled with junk
Is it?
I do think I'm fairly tech savvy so I might be biased
But, like, i think the biggest advantage windows has is its software packaging is much easier to use
You literally just click next to install most programs
I would say even while being technologically literate I had no clue my linux install had no internet, the GUI was hard to navigate and solutions online had nothing in common with my problem (I was looking for solution as to why I can't install any package)
it was only when I tried to open the browser was when I realized

what
It varies heavily by distro
this is literally the worst downside of windows
I'm talking about ease of use
you have to first find software (often navigate sketchy websites), uncheck boxes that want to install random toolbars and be careful to not install too much
thats why stuff like ninite exists
additionally the updating of software is horrible
I found ubuntu's layout pretty intuitive tbh
you have to update everything individually
on linux machines you just type the equivalent of install software
or click some install button if you have a software center
windows tried to steal this idea with the windows shop
but who uses that?
any popular linux distro will communicate "no internet" the same way windows does: via a small tray icon
in general linux requires some minimal learning of the terminal and standard shell commands
i probably used it 1 time in each installation
to install WSL
but i dont think this is harder than learning what buttons to press
its just that you probably grew up with windows
I had to do that to several programs for Ubuntu too
You also have to deal with different packaging methods
Like appimmage
learning what buttons to press effectively makes windows sound like a good thing after you do that, just learn what buttons to press in order to fix the problem
Mfw qbittorent is obscure programs
arch is really good ngl
except i wish you didn't have to install a new kernel each week
apt-cache search "qbittorrent"
qbittorrent - bittorrent client based on libtorrent-rasterbar with a Qt5 GUI
qbittorrent-nox - bittorrent client based on libtorrent-rasterbar (without X support)
Also, most often than not the programs installed by apt are outdated
Ok then unity-hub
Or wine (I think)
Where you need to add their directories to apt
wine exists
you dont need to add directories to apt ever
you can always just do manual installations (the same way as on windows) if you care
most people offer .deb by now i think
i wouldnt know
but if the software supports linux at all, you can download it and start some install script
or maybe compile it yourself? i sometimes had to do that
I meant repository mb

Even the most tech savvy people often have trouble with that, my dude
https://rustup.rs/ this is also kinda sketchy
Loch has never heard of dependency hell
i have never seen software not being offered already compiled
unless its not offered for windows at all
and then this is a moot point
just list your dependencies
i have deal with worse things
(not being able to figure out what kernel flags have to be set for certain software to work, because nobody except me works with a minimal kernel)
And then your dependencies interfer with other programs you have already
I once tried to build a fucking video player and one dependency broke libraoffice
skill issue
Exactly
skill issue
That's the point
stop having skill issue
i dont think this is valid criticism though
because if you just stick to wtv software is in the official repository
everything will just work
the more valid concern here is that some developers do not support linux (properly)
and only offer windows versions of software
but you cant blame linux for that
this is overall the biggest linux issue because it extends to drivers, which are kinda essential for your computer to function correctly
I'm not criticizing linux
I'm just saying that the only possible way, in my experience, where Linux can be less easy to use than windows is when installing software
i just dont think thats true at all lol
your average user just clicks on "software center" or whatever and finds every piece of software they will ever need to install with a single click
and update everything with a single click
and get no unwanted additional shit
speaking of that, ubuntu literally doesn't
if no icon implies no internet connection I'd say this is not at all intuitive
until you realize snap is an absolute shitshow
here
I'll try to update firefox rq
then why use snap?
darq i dont think i can learn the prereqs fast enough tbh
it's the one installed with ubuntu
maybe ubuntu is just bad
ig?
but whats wrong with apt-get update or wtv
but that's the most popular distro
coz you can't install stuff installed with snap with apt get update
why do you need to install stuff with snap
i dont have this on my ubuntu machines
it's ubuntu's shop
or its backend ig
the shop is the GUI
an experienced friend of mine straight up just told me to avoid using snap
coz it'll mess up your system?
but some programs are only installable using snap
like firefox
or maybe not firefox?
I dunno, I just remember one that I could only install using snap and that it was super poplar
https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/d0pxy3/how_long_does_it_take_you_to_compile_from_scratch/
compiling FF takes ~ 1 hour, if you can afford the time to leave your computer
5 votes and 8 comments so far on Reddit
(assuming apt fails)
chrome is good if you have ridiculous amounts of RAM
chromium takes eons to compile
yeah that too
why would you compile it yourself
but binaries are quite readily provided afaik for both ff/chromium
tfw need 32gb of RAM to enjoy chrome with more than 3 tabs open
I would try if msys2 wasn't annoying
damn how do i prove A -> (A^t)^-1 is an automorphism of GLn(R)
i HATE algebra proofs

rare ng dan
oh, nvm, I was thinking of vlc and I was wrong
tis ok cat bread
no pressure what so ever
you just prove it's inverse exists and is also a homomorphism
(dude, I haven't written nor uttered homomorphisms in months)
(good.)
and ofc that the map itself is a homomorphism
in this case it's particularly easy coz you only have to do one of those 3 steps
do you see why?
i dont see why you only need just 1
i can see that there has to be an inverse mapping and why the og map is an homomorphism
the inverse also needs to be a homomorphism
real

dude, I'm rewatching rezero
and I just recalled why it annoyed me so much
even a fucking land dragon is simping for the protag
I can't believe such a good story is another "watch how this average-NEET-nobody gets a harem"
He's just like you frfr™️
Poor mistake
Season 2 was such a step down
nah, I thought it was a step up
I like slow arc that focus on character development in action heavy shows
I just wish not every girl within a mile radius doesn't floober their goober whenever subaru fucking breaths
This one makes sense
Complex numbers of the same magnitude belong to circles (centered at the origin if there’s no translation of the abs value function of course)
They come up frequently but always sort of in the background of other things
S^1 is a Lie group
You can do it with that photo you sent
I relate to this show because every girl within a mile radius floobers their goobers whenever Chmonkey breathes, so if you removed this I wouldn’t be able to relate anymore

if you want to watch realistic stuff where nobody cares about you and you die alone there is anime for that too
I don't necessarily want something realistic
It just irks me that that was the target demographic
since girls are fawning over me already, I don't have to be sent to another world and be granted divine providence
How was your test, @spare dock?
The more I live life, the more I'm convinced this isn't that unrealistic
It seems the largest difference between the people who do and don't form intimate (or not so intimate) relationships is the level of putting yourself out there
Holy based
How do I intuitively understand linear algebra? As of now, it seems as though I merely know how to manipulate formalisms and sentences in accordance with some rules so as to prove statements. Is this just an illusory impression? Or is this indicative of an actual issue? And if this is a real issue, then how do I combat this excessive immersion in formalisms, this unfortunate dearth of intuition?
lines and stuff
linear algebra should be one of the most intuitive subjects out there
so if you're missing out on that intuition, something is going drastically wrong
Sir, please go to rehab. The amount of copium you are using is unsettling.

It went well 🙂💪 feeling confident with it. Even answered the bonus question. I probably got a few questions wrong but out of the 30 I got the majority correct for sure. Thanks for all the help @chrome marsh! I’ll keep practicing to get even better
lnxe^x was on the test and it was written like this too. How would you interpret it? (I checked to make sure)
ln(x)e^x or ln(xe^x)?
@chrome marsh
$\ln(xe^x)$
SWR
If they omitted parentheses, that is ridiculous.
If you get it wrong, I would argue it
I would only write the former as $e^x\ln x$
SWR
To remove such confusion
people need to learn how to use parenthesis
Its crazy!
why do people deliberately omit information that makes communicating information clearer and easily understandable

Try to solve different kinds of problems. Instead of just doing the millionth row reduction, play around and see if you can see a difference between row reducing an invertible and a non-invertible matrix, for example. See if you can find, out in the wild, some examples of things that are actually secretly vector spaces (for instance, given a field k, the polynomial ring k[x] is an infinite-dimensional vector space over k). See if you can find some things that are not vector spaces, and identify where they fail to be vector spaces. Find a basis for R as a vector space over Q.
This sort of thing takes time and energy and effort, but it's way more efficient for learning than just doing row reduction after row reduction after row reduction until you've memorized Gauss's algorithm.
that last one is incredibly evil
Don't listen to ally, try the problems for yourself.
Especially the last one, it's very fun
same
I'm not saying it's a bad exercise, I'm just saying it's evil
I don't like that emoji actually I'm deleting my message
What does "invariant mean" mean?
I must have missed something in a previous class but one of the theorems states: "There exists an invariant mean on B(Z)"
oh nvm google is op
What's the context?
Oh I got it now, but B(Z) was the banach space of bounded doubly infinite real sequences (w/ sup norm) and mean on B(Z) was defined as the linear function $u:B(Z)\to R$ st $\inf x(Z)\leq u(x) \leq \sup x(Z)$ for all $x\in B(Z)$ and it is invariant if $u(\sigma(x))=u(x)$ where $\sigma$ is shift operator

i still don't get the motivation tho
this is from the chapter in the book on compactness
but idk what the point of it is, is it supposed to be obvious
You might need to ask mods for permission to post surveys
hey
Don't post these without our permission
if a matrix has a det of -1 is it always an involution?
Thank you for your extended response. I study proof-based linear algebra, and so I have not done a million row reduction exercises yet
I will nevertheless try to look into more challenging problems such as the ones you have mentioned.
From cave drawings to photos, pictures can often say more than words alone. This is one reason why people use emojis. Emojis are small pictures often used in text messages and email. They are used to show a feeling or idea. These little pictures of faces, objects, and animals got their start in Japan. The word emoji comes from the Japanese words for "picture" and "character."
In the 1990s, it took a long time to write text messages on the first cell phones. A Japanese man named Shigetaka Kurita thought it would be faster and easier to send messages using pictures. Instead of typing "It is sunny today," you could just use a picture of the sun. Kurita came up with 176 digital pictures that became the first emojis. There were hearts, happy and sad faces, and pictures showing different kinds of weather. The emojis were fast to type and easy to understand. They could also add extra information about how the writer was feeling.
Emojis were an instant hit. People loved using emojis so much that they asked for new ones to be made. Now, there are thousands of different emojis, including ones for pizza, basketball, and animals.
Using pictures in messages can carry ideas across the world. Even people who do not speak the same language can communicate with emojis. A smiling face means happy thoughts whether you speak English or Japanese!

As for the basis of $\mathbb{R}$ as a vector space over $\mathbb{Q}$ , I thought about that question before, but I could not have solved it back then (because I simply did not know the required mathematical machineries) and just used MSE. Nonetheless, I still remember the gist of the argument.
Since $\mathbb{R}$ is uncountable and $\mathbb{Q}$ is countable, it follows that $\mathbb{R}$ is an infinite-dimensional vector space over $\mathbb{Q}$ ; otherwise, for some natural number $n$ , $\mathbb{R}$ is isomorphic to $\mathbb{Q}^n$ , but $\mathbb{Q}^n$ is countable (because $\mathbb{Q}$ is countable, and because the Cartesian product of countable sets is also countable), and thus, the uncountable nature of $\mathbb{R}$ is contradicted. As for the existence of a basis of $\mathbb{R}$ as a vector space over $\mathbb{Q}$ , I heard that I need to use some transfinite set theory, but I am not familiar with advanced set theory yet.

none of this needed to be put into latex
But it looks pretty now

Any vector space has a basis by zorn's lemma (a maximal linearly independent set)
You are right that in this case, the basis is infinite
hey
i was focusing on school
now there's no school
so i'm back
i think i am going to do some kind of geometry over the summer
:o I have no idea what that means but it sounds cool
I'm taking a course on riemannian geometry next semester
Oh they're used in hamiltonian mechanics, that's sick
phase spaces in hamiltonian mechanics are symplectic manifolds
well, maybe i should say cotangent bundles instead. locally it's all the same
that's exciting, where are you reading from?
(because cotangent bundles consist of pairs (q, p), where q is the position on the manifold and p is a covector at q giving you momentum)
(and hamiltonian mechanics considers position and momentum)
Oh wait that's cool
there's a relatively new book on poisson geometry by some of the top people in the field
preview since i don't wanna get sniped for posting the full pdf
if i do symplectic then i will read mcduff and salamon. the classic
arnold
goes from newtonian to lagrangian to finally hamiltonian mechanics
i took a class following it last semester
good stuff!
