thx
Hi
I know it's not chemistry grup
But can someone tell me book for physical chemistry
JEE??
do you have a question
I just added active + very active + emeritus
And it was like 400 or smth
So taking previous actives and people who have left the server, the real number couldn't have been triple that
I don't think that's true
Acrive is a much lower bar
It’s like how limbo is more exclusive than heaven or hell
which one is heaven and which one is hell
No, it was rhetorical
Stop talking to yourself
my computer was fixed yesterday so i reinstalled texlive
and vscode of course
this time i installed the small version of texlive
it still took like an hour
good morning slurp!
Good morning DarQ!
Lol
is there a way to find the trace if i'm given the adjoint and the determinant
I think the only way would be to first find the matrix, hmm
If the determinant is non-zero (or the matrix is 2x2) then yes, since you can find the original matrix
yeah
If not then no
mhmm
I have my HSC exam tommorow guys, please wish me luck. Probably won't ever use this server again as I no longer have maths
😭😭
Bye guys
bye and good luck!
All the best for your exam
Is there math info on fluids going through different shaped funnels?
I want to study it a little bit
HSC?
high school certification exam?
Google “the Euler equations”. Then you set the boundary conditions u.n = 0 along the funnel where n is the normal vector to the funnel and u is the flow’s velocity field (this is called a “no-penetration condition”)
Google "the Navier-Stokes equations". Then prove the global existence and smoothness of solutions to the equations in an arbitrary three-dimensional domain. Apply your results to different shaped funnels.
Hey guys.
If anyone here is very bored, would u plz take the time to read one my college app essays?
Around 250 words
thx
@sleek wing how do I compare funnels?
Yes
Look up Bernoulli's principle, maybe
Don't shitpost here thx
Which funnel you guys think would work better?
They're both 4 inch at the top and 1 inch at the bottom
I would think it would be the first one
do not say it do not think it do not say it do not think it
What???
ukno exactly what i mean mr
No?
I think im the first one it should stay smoother
I was thinking the first one also because it gradually tapers
I'm thinking about just testing it
That's probably the best method
Dumping a gallon of water through each one
See what happens
Not sure what else to do
The thing with the euler equations and boundary conditions seems complicated
I don't even know if there's a stable tapered pipe flow
Yeah
It's really complicated for weird boundaries like this
more generally transport equations with boundary conditions is a pure nightmare
I would start with 2 gallons maybe and watch the outflow, how evenly the water comes out of it. But it has to be flowing into the pipe smoothly in the first place for you to see if the pipe preserves that
Hmm, that'll be tricky
The top one is 1.5 inch longer
You think more time spent in the tube could destabilize the flow of liquid?
Well think about it this way
If the pipe immediately just got thinner with no taper
That would be really bad
So lengthening it probably makes it better
Yeah that makes sense
Does the math on it work for all speeds of liquid? Or does it normally get turbulent at higher/ lower speeds?
It gets turbulent when the Reynolds number is high
which is proportional to the flow speed, so yeah
Have you had an experience where you learned a mathematical concept from a source of some language, and you want to write notes about it in another target language? That is what I occasionally do for entertainment.
Now it turns out that some concepts do not have an (established) name in the target language. How does one go about naming them? Should one:
- Leave the source language as-is in between the target language text.
- Translate the source language name.
- Forge a suitable name in the target language from scratch.
All three
I know that people do all sorts of things, which is why I listed those that I know of, but it’s not about facts, it’s about opinions.
does sleeping actually help you get taller by decompressing your back
I js want some motivation for sleeping because I havent been able to get some sleep
I feel like Im wasting time I dont wanna miss out on by sleeping
Sleeping might make you appear taller
You won’t be as slouchy
does this server also help people solve Boolean expression to truth table?
yes. #❓how-to-get-help
Was just thinking how similar set theory was seeming to boolean algebra, and then I turned the page
The Unions intersection and compliment have clear links, but I can't quite justify how a boolean variable and a set behave so similarly
look at the definition of union and intersection
Yes I do agree that they are basically or/and, but why does applying these operations on a set work so similarly to performing these operations on boolean variables
because they are defined like that
In case your wonder, the power set $\mathcal{P}(X)$ is in natural bijection with the Boolean Ring $\mathbb{F}_2^X$ in an (exercise) obvious way. The addition and multiplication in the latter then gives you symmetric difference and intersection in the former respectively.
Most of the (finitary) laws for set operations follow then from the ring axioms.
koaaa
A second hand book on mathematical induction I got has a 3-page appendix of jokes
that's a long book
beautiful
Sleeping reduces a person's seizure threshold and also helps with muscle recovery
There's actually a master class course available on the importance of sleep
Insomnia can be caused by worry about not being able to sleep, in which case reiterating the importance of sleep is redundant at best
Of which half of it is solution
Is it normal to read 5-9 pages an hour in an introduction course to linear algebra as a maths major? I try to understand the proofs and sometimes attempt on proving them myself before comparing to the book's proof. My classmates told me they average 15-20 pages an hour, is this normal? Do I need to up my game?
up your game how?
don't worry about it, they're probably rushing
5-9 is also rushing
oh
youre just skimming probably
so I'm also rushing
which is fine for your first read
but when u go back to actually understand whats being said thoroughly youll need more time
for the important bits
I do find myself going back some times to double check
could get stuck on one page for an hr quite easily
So essentially, I should just take my time and not worry?
yes
✅
Ah. Thank you guys so much! I kept worrying for nothing then
I tend to skim a chapter first and then read it more thoroughly
5-9 pages an hour sounds like possibly a lot tho yea, depends on how dense the book is
I wouldn't worry about it
My general strategy is skim chapter look at exercises go back and read what I need then answer questions then I take notes on what I had to go back over
If I find a part especially hard to understand I stop skimming and focus on what that part is saying maybe do some quick drawing and my own examples play with a bit
which book are you reading, just curious
it is nonsensical to measure in terms of pages without specifying the book or paper
even then your goal is to understand things, not skip and have gaps in your understanding
can you explain the concept of limit?
for any ball centered at the limit, eventually the sequence goes into the ball
ok but explain in points
ok read a book
which book
tao's analysis I
lmao
can u explain plz
no. I'm not paid to explain what you can just google
i dont wanna google u explain
oh boy
if you don't respect my time
why should I respect you?
I'll let someone else do it
ok
Search up "Tao analysis 1" on Google
It's been some time since I have seen someone this explicitly self entitled
autumn leaves!
Pretty
That's a great piece
My prof just had the most based reaction when called out on calling a retraction a section
“There is no “correct” when it comes to notation. Everyone calls everything whatever they want. What matters is the mathematical content”
Bruh
this is all the validation I need to move forward with calling the codifferential the interior derivative
Lmao
based.
they are very pretty here
What do you call the adjoint of the exterior derivative then?
Yes
gm bloe
hook.
Definitely looks like a hook
currently writing historical account of fictional cultures bc math is harder...
I call it the ex-starrier derivative
What’s up y’all I have a bit of a psychological question
Do y’all think that when we say “positive” integer we also include 0??
who
Stop right there criminal scum
Hold up lemme give you context
it will also be clear from context
N is a monoid but zero is not positive
well u said positive oof
i hate ppl who write N-{0} if u do that i wish u a very unnice day
N := N - {0}
hope u slip on a banana or smth
yes. factual
N is a monoid
Nah, N_0 is a monoid
for e.g. analytic nt N having a 0 is inconvinient.
Here, it said m and n are positive integers
So I made my argument assuming the min is 1
But in the answer sheet here’s what it gives
just bc an answer sheet says smth
doesnt mean im wrong
live with that mentality and ull go far fam
ur just wrong on defualt sweatie
yea theres OTHER REASONS
Don’t y’all think that’s weird ?
use f12
wait its a mac
Why did they bound it to 2
When it’s clearly 6
The second argument is hella more efficient though
Mac only for rich people
says it in Chinese accent
sussy
What's the question?
you get to know how many marks a question is worth, so lucky
Aloff of the five subparts?
The specific question I was talking about was v
It’s pretty easy I just wanted to make sure I’m not the only one wondering why they bounded it to 2 per term rather than 6
BrotherFatty
I guess yes
How?
BrotherFatty
Lemme send a pic writing is difficult
Kk
What's going on in discussion?
Bot attack?
ola
if you can find a close form for that sum, the result becomes pretty easy to find
Yeah
and it is easy to find
Nah
whynt
The alternative solution is the best
what is the alternative solution
I don’t know why I somehow didn’t think of it
I guess my brain tunneled visioned to make a lower bound, because I immediately felt like 214 was below the bound
what are you talking wbiut
And then sum Ig
Yeah pretty much that’s all you’d need
Don’t even need to think about the constant term because you now know that the coefficient of x is a multiple of 6
So anyways it goes by mod 6 and rest remnant is just another linear sum
Actually the constant term here is wrong
How?
It’s supposed to be one less than the coefficient
Here’s how I did it by first proving that it doesn’t matter what order I apply a and b
That’s the first part of the question actually
Oh boy this is dark
Proving that a and b are commutative
My room mate is sleeping sorry
Oh what test is it?
MAT as I said 👆
Does the const term upto somethin like this
Yeah
The difference between the constant term and the coefficient is 122 which is k here
So it occurs A occurs 122 times
This is what I did, I found k, and thus found a lower bound and showed that 214 is below that lower bound
But you don’t need to do this actually
Since 214 is not divisible by 6, you already know it’s impossible
Is it 11?
No
Crap
You want to know the answer?
Actually try iii first it might help you
And i too
Actually maybe you’ll need to do the whole thing from the beginning because I used results from other parts to solve iv
BrotherFatty
What is the answer to iii
Is it 10?
Great
Yeah that’s 5C2
why when investigating limit we don't consider c (where x is tending to)? I mean, what could go wrong when you do take it into domain
because it’s very possible that f is not defined at that point c
Could someone help me with circle geometry
Why are you multiposting
Also, literally read the rules of a server before texting
Sorry
There's a #chess-go-shogi channel!
How about you #chess-go-shogi away
hi sluwurp
Hello prak! How are you?
Random thought I had: would making people read #rules and #❓how-to-get-help before giving them posting permissions will cut down on the "Pls HELP URGENT my homework is due in 1 minute and worth 140% of my grade (i have not started yet)" posts
how would you make them read those channels before giving them posting permissions though
Well it's not perfect but you can make them have to react with something at the bottom to get permissions
Of course some might not read it but maybe enough people would
They already have to read #rules
When you join, you get a prompt that has the rules listed and a "I agree" checkbox
The problem is, there's just no way to enforce that properly.
No nice way, at least.
you say that as if there’s any way
i suppose you could just ban anyone as soon as they broke the slightest rule
pop quiz people on the rules and then ban them if they fail
You could have them complete a quiz or sth but it would be silly
Ban people immediately for “not reading the rules” (since there’s no good method of reliably knowing this, the people will be chosen randomly, but this tactic will scare the rest of the members into reading the rules)
hey can i study further math 1 without studied pure math 3 in as levels?
Not my field of study, but generally study what you want as long as you understand it
could you stop this send/delete bullshit @hard oasis
also dont post chain messages here
what the hell does one even post in "career goals" in some cv thingy if I don't have any concrete ones?
like, improve my skillset to work on complex real world problems and have a positive impact on society or some generic shit
why would you declare a career goal in a CV unless you're trying not to get hired?
because this is somehow part of a fixed template I have to fill in for an event
I would prefer to leave it blank too
well, just put some bullshit pablum in there, and then throw that CV away immediately after you've sent it
aight, pablo, noted
or you can go for the wild and crazy option, put "rule the world" or "establish global unity" or "bake the perfect scone" in there
nobody reads those things anyway, except for lulz
the secret to getting interviews used to be to incorporate the entire job posting you were applying for as 0pt text somewhere in your CV or cover letter
completing a backflip without paralyzing myself is a respectable choice then I guess
like I can't really do that, I'm not just applying for one thing, this is more like a company scan where multiple companies will see this
they check for that now, so it's better to like strip stopwords from the posting and reorder the SIPs so it's less likely to trigger the C&P detector
yeah, nobody looks at those CVs either, at most they'll get keyword scanned. if you ever get a referral from one of those events it'll be because of a personal interaction or a referral
what the hell are you talking about
how to bake a CV/resume to maximize your chances of getting an interview
I don't even know what word I'd even use to boost my chances since I don't know wtf these guys are even offering
you want your CV/resume/cover letter to be a "perfect match" for the position in question, so you want to make sure it hits on all of the search terms they're using to evaluate matches
yeah, job fairs are shite
they're mostly an opportuinity for employers to hire people based on appearance
recruiters can wade through th epool, spot people they find attractive, and then offer them interview opportunities
I mean... my chances are like 0 then I guess
I should just paste every programming language ever in there and yeah just bank on the fact that there is automatic scanning
throw in any hot buzzphrases you can think of
most resumes/CVs are full of shit anyway
machine learning, crypto, classification, neural networks, ai, stock trading and idk
I'm gonna go to a help channel and get some free tutoring, what should I ask? I'm currently getting into financial mathematics
How to do maths
Is there a name when two categories A and B have functors f and g between them such that there is a bijection from
hom_A(fx,y) to hom_B(x,gy)
I noticed this happened in some bullshit I was working on
yes, f and g are adjoint functors
very much so
sweet
You get a lot of neat structure out of adjoint functors
it's also something that comes up surprisingly often

anyone got tips on how i can improve in high school maths
dm me if anyones got any tips ! <3
Our chemistry course is such a shitshow lol
start with the 4 states of matter
Go through classical models of the atom
Use classical mechanics which the students don't know
Students don't understand
Introduce shrodinger's equation
Students don't know what a differential equation is
Students don't even know what a matrix is
All of that in 1 month
Students don't understand
"Why don't students understand?"
🤡
Four? Did u guys forget about the Bose Einstein condensate?
Or the fermionic condensate?
Or the triple point equilibrium state?
o
bruh 💀
what was listed as teh prereqs
Finishing HS?
Or the quark gluon plasma
tbh maybe it was expecting too much if they assumed diffeq knowledge from people who expected just like hs algebra and calculus to come out
jesus
lmao
Sounds like your average first year uni class
differential equations are calculus?
schrodingers equation is incomprehensible to ppl that just finished calculus
.
Pretty much the same with physics lectures.
But it is manageable to learn the (math) gaps in short time along the lecture.

I have a question, when I was helping someone change a quadratic from standard form to vertex form and Im wondering what method you guys like teaching
theres the method of re-arranging to vertex form and then theres the method of -b/2a
Hi Shyshu
the easier one
I teach both
And which do you think that is
I think the first teaches more understanding and the second is easier IMO
It's good to know how to complete the square
ya, thats an important understanding gap between just memerizing -b/2a

Hello!
Does anyone have any ideas?
What algebra? I assume you mean highschool alg
In that case perhaps khan academy
Though i have heard ppl say the exercises there are too easy
For AA and other uni topics Cambridge actually gives has example sheets free online
How do you calculate vector space bases?
Do any of you live in uk?
Hello guys…
Joined the server trying to find a solution… (not to a math problem)
So i started studying math at uni since early september
And i just—
It not like i don’t get what they taught us
Is that
Sometimes i think that the process of proving something is very subjective because all i see when the teacher proves something is that it seems like magic lmao
Not literally
But it is just that everything seems so obvious but he makes it ten times more complicated
it depends entirely on what you know about how the vector space looks like, if you have a more specific question see #linear-algebra maybe
can you provide an example?
Ill try, english isn’t my first language, sorry in advance
For example:
sup A = L, prove that for all the z in A, L>= z
My problem is that
Isn’t it very clear that of course if z is in A and sup A = L, then OF COURSE z is always =< L
what is the proof of that that is so complicated?
i can say that a lot of early math education is with training wheels so to say
you have to mechanically verify a lot of definitions that are "easy" to do, but you have to learn how to write down rigorous mathematical arguments correctly so that later you can verify things that arent obvious anymore
It is just that he goes all the other way round and starts with (sorry i dont really know how to translate this part to english) “assuming that L isn’t sup A, then L-epsilon > z and that means that L- epsilon is sup A, but by hypothesis sup A is L and not L- epsilon, so it is a contradiction, qed”
I just dont get it
I mean
The problem is very obvious then why do we need to do all of that
It almost seems like the definition of sup A
I see…
you need to formally verify the definition of sup
"its obvious" doesnt convince me
there are even some things that seem very obvious but are hard to prove
True
my favorite example of what i said is prove that R^n not homeo R^m if m is not equal to n
it genuinely blew my mind when i found out that this was in fact not trivial at all
well i was in very early undergrad back then but still
Yeah but, it is a definition right? It is true bc it is how to define that thing right? Then it is true no matter what, i guess…?
why is terry tao’s salary so high
Oh damn whoa 🤣😭
and why do we worship him
He meant that you need to formally verify that this follows from the definition
Oh
Like even if it is obvious you cannot be 100% sure about that unless you actually prove it?
i mean tbh the proof you gave doesnt even work (?)
and the original statement is proven by stating part of the definition of sup (unless there is a different definition im not aware of...)
i do get the general gist of what you want to say, though
if you think you have a simpler proof of something, then you should ask your teacher
but "its obvious" is not a proof
Maybe i wrote it wrongly tho
Ill send it later when i get home
early on you have to do very small steps when proving things
Alright 😔
maybe "follows right from definition" is better
that's still not a proof
start with the definitions, apply small logical steps, arrive at some conclusions
a lot of early exercises are just "write down the definitions of what you have, write down the definitions of what you want, fill the gaps"
I can't really imagine why epsilon language is needed for that one anyway though lol
what loch said
🤔 it is in the definition of sup, … right? Im very sure epsilon was somewhere in the definition my teacher gave us tho…
it could have been
Alright
Thank you!!!!
people usually don't define it like that from my experience
I see
but if the definition was an epsilon definition, the for all the z in A, L>= z thing is not as obvious
as it would be with the usual way people define sup
Oh yeah, proving it is another story but what i meant is that the problem seems obvious so that’s why i dont get why you need prove it when it is obvious but yeah the other guy answered it already
Thank you tho!!!
then the proof would be weirder like this
you always have to check the definitions that are in your notes
Alright, thx!

Bourbaki Fixed Point theorem
"Consider a lamp with a toggle switch. Flicking the switch once turns the lamp on. Another flick will turn the lamp off. Now suppose that there is a being who is able to perform the following task: starting a timer, he turns the lamp on. At the end of one minute, he turns it off. At the end of another half minute, he turns it on again. At the end of another quarter of a minute, he turns it off. At the next eighth of a minute, he turns it on again, and he continues thus, flicking the switch each time after waiting exactly one-half the time he waited before flicking it previously. The sum of this infinite series of time intervals is exactly two minutes.
The following question is then considered: Is the lamp on or off at two minutes ?"
there is no answer to that
1
you’re basically just asking if infinity is even or odd
the answer is 1
uh, I assume this means the "total ammount" of that light being on for x minutes???
this cant be determined
this question is easy: it's equal to the limit of (-1)^n as n→∞
that depends, how many infinities did he go
answer is the average

Yeah Nietzsche was an avid music fan
His music is so lonely

His poetry is p good too
yeah he really liked richard Wagner's music
they fell out over something
They had a huge split after Parsifal
he liked the music at first
And also the fact that Wagner was really anti-semitic
And Nietzsche hated anti-semitism
ah
And found Wagner's Christianity despicable
Yeah Nietzsche was Wagner's biggest fan at first
Nietzsche thought Christianity was weak
and then proceeded to go so far as to reject traditional morality because of its connection to Christiantity, and offer up master-slave morality instead
@pastel lark this server is not for personal promotions, especially not political ones.
Hello! Im in Grade 11, STEM Engineering rn. Im planning to attend college outside of my country, and naturally it is quite competitive in mathematics.
Whats the problem?
Im good with math, I can understand the concepts and overall idea of it. The thing that makes me get a bad scores in test are the small stupid mistakes, and the time limitation. I know these can be easily fixed though, by practice, practice, practice and familiarization. I notice that Kumon has worksheets that tell you shortcuts, vedics and mental math as supplementation. Though, Seeing my classmates cry over a piece of paper, saying that they haven't finished kumon worksheets, along with other assignments made me realize that kumon aint no mental health space.
So, right now, I want to get good high scores (95%) in mathematics and that would be done with your advice. I need worksheets, websites, exercises that can help me with algebra. I didn't take algebra seriously back then so now im suffering when im taking it seriously.
I would love help. I wanna get better in math, It's such a wonderful subject. I want to enjoy the process and still get wonderful grades from math.
I would try khanacademy if you haven't already
It has a lot of short exercises that you can do to practice
On a wide variety of different topics in high school mathematics
I see, Is there any timed worksheets? Or vedic maths?
whats Vedic maths?
Good morning
Aye cool pfp, we're twinsies
I have a hard time envisioning a scenario where a guilt trip will help someone sleep

how does nanotech work?
it's like tech but extremely small
@bright hill you ready?
idk, this is a math server
I still have lecture lol
I'll be ready in 1.5 hours
Eeeeeeee
Its like an indian way of how to do maths
its much more faster
i saw it in the internet, on how "vedic" maths are fast
like first adding the 100 and 400 in 123 + 423
ye, seems its a collection of techniques to do elementary operations faster
I think its mental math
interesting read
also linked in that article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trachtenberg_system which is also interesting
(horrible tex in this article though)
The thought of how it was produced
man mankind really have this wierd time to do the most brightest stuff during the most dark or stupid times in history
then we do so stupid during the brightest and most innovative part of history
probably on the last parts
like for example dying over nuclear war
after a peaceful time
you get what i mean?
Oh DAM
Ooh
Found a video for that!
How do we do when we have carry overs though
no idea lol
i just thought the history of the invention is interesting
and the fact that someone put so much thought into something like this
i just use computers
@bright hill ready now?
Jeez
Gimme 20 minutes to dine at least lol

Stop writing and start speaking
Did i hear the best note taking app?
No lel
There used to be a channel for actives called obsidian that has since been archived
we did we stop shaking soda bottles at some age
not quite
it was originally basically for like
mod Minecraft server and then we opened to active iirc
then the MC server died
revive it
revive it so that it may die again
Technicalities.
Twas cool doe
Just extort the helpees
we were fine paying for it if people actually played
Every minute of help they receive costs 1 minute of server time
Nah, it's just coz mniip thought it became chill for actives
spoiled members
the issue wasnt money related
no lol it was hardly even active
I typed there
we could make a minecraft server but not sure if anyone cares anymore to set one up
Anyhow, can we at least have a vc for actives?
we have other stuff to do that nobody does
whats the reasoning behind this
Or at least another advanced vc that's not specifically for math
hmm
uhh we don't really see any reason for this
we are first and foremost a mathematics server
I would play but only if I get to know where ShiN lives so I can delete his door everytime I log in
A lot of times me or slurp want to stream something non math related
usually in that case you are unfortunately just gonna have to use the offtopic VC
But if we're on off topic for example a lot of times some randos join in and deviate the conversation
yeah I'd just mute them or redirect them
discord also has a call feature
Well, i can't do that
I think?
Like for yourself, so you and your homie just both mute them
I don't see why not just voice call at that point tbh
yeah to an extent DM calls are prolly just better for that
10 then
I don't want the stream to be private, I just trust the core community more in being respectful and properly following etiquette
I also sometimes would like to say things about myself that I would be more hesitant to say in front of someone I never interacted with
Fair
who is core community
me, obviously
People that have been active enough to be familiar with the server's culture and has a few friends here or they're at least trying to make friends here
obviously i will dislike any idea that creates moderation overhead
If you have posted in mice you are core
true
and im sure as hell not judging who is active enough to be familiar with the server's culture and has a few friends here or they're at least trying to make friends here
Well, i would say most "active" users fit into that category
Ye
The infty roles exists as well if you wanna cover edgecases
i dont
darq what are you even talking about anymore
What's the infinity role
deprecated
What was the infinity role
i/we will think about it, darq
i see a few issues, mostly feature creep and creating wrong incentives
it also gives the perks of the active roles
but i see where you are coming from
Thanks
hm, maybe it gives rename ability
but the original purpose does not exist anymore
reminded that advanced helper still exists
infinity role definitely isn’t gonna be deleted if that role isn’t
@fair mural get off your high horses, copy cat
what
You woulda never asked for Banach alg if I didnt first
how do you even remember that happening
i don’t even remember that
that must have been months ago
math discord clout 💀
Nice try
Dunno
My memory seems to be particularly strong with things related to the server for some reason lmao
Embed fail
Laugh at this user
true
what is that role for
Jesus shyshy
looooooooooooooooool
since like 2017
fr?
yes
Lmao
i gotta use this
Shit, i just remembered
I got a girl's contacts a couple weeks ago and i never got back to them

HAHAHA
wp
Kinda rude ngl
How is she gonna be able to see?

_>
literally nothing
yes, considering u dont have it either, idk what u are showing off
Oh lol
at least i got some useful roles i can actually use to flex @bright hill

thats right
keep burning
i like to see that

fun fact
i didnt beg
i just randomly got it one day
people just love me that much
get to my level, smh
“useful”
The best thing is to do things that are similar to your exam
Don't think you're learning math, think you're learning to beat the exam. Very different and specific skill
If you got old copies of previous exams those are the best
For the record, he did
That didn't matter
But he did
Noted!
the feels when you thought you wrote the proof correctly but prof said you didn't :(
how do you avoid thinking that you're good at proofs when you're not? Like how....
Other than having my friends look at it... I'm in the same boat as you!
practice xd
I practice the holy trinity of cos^2 + sin^2 = 1
:'(
This is just aa = |a|^2
could someone help me
Read #❓how-to-get-help.
Here's a critical thinking riddle based on something I just remembered: paper.io is a game where you can move around like in agar.io, but the goal is to go in loops to close off an area and paint it your own color, overriding other people's turf when you do so. If someone hits your path before you close the loop or you get closed in someone elses loop, you die. Several years ago someone posted a tutorial for how to get 100%: move to the edge of the map and go around the whole map. People were praising the tutorial early on, but complained in the comments last year (when I played for 1 day and learned about all this) that it doesn't work. Why not? There are multiple plausible answers, but only one correct answer, so keep the guesses coming.
i do this shit a lot
which part
don't you just die when someone spawns on your path
how does spawning work lol
I'm not understanding the rules
dear god i just heard the word clout on a law and order episode
For spawning, you just get randomly placed somewhere on the map after you die and rejoin. Otherwise there is no spawning. And it doesn't matter why someone touches your path.
What happens to a path once it gets closed
I have so many questions
Does it become a barrier or something
I feel like we're missing a lot of information lol
But also it'll take you a while to close the path. Why doesn't someone just run into your trail before you do
I don't see why the strategy would work
Well they're saying it won't for multiple reasons
The enclosed area becomes your color. If part of it was someone else's color, that gets painted over and the other player loses turf.
It did and now it doesn't, the riddle is to figure out why. And again, multiple plausible theories but only one right one.
just try it and find out yourself
I already know the answer, that's why it's a riddle and not a help question. I challenge you to do that and see if you get the answer though, I doubt you will.
I played the game several years ago and tried this strategy lol
Did you solve the riddle?
not much of a riddle, I won this way a few times
But it doesn't work now. The riddle to explain why it worked and then didn't. Was there a way I phrased the original post that made it unclear?
how do rec letters work?
i am "building" a non official transcript in the math dept where im examined
in math
and for every test the prof will add in the letter that i took this and that
cuz im an undergrad cs and no real math courses here
so like when applying how does this work
does the dept im applying to send an email asking for the letter
or do i have like a handwritten letter and i ssubmit it XD
@bright hill I feel like I'm getting dumber every single day
and I'm not joking
Wtf is going on with me
Maths and Physics were my strong suit but even simple questions confuse me now
I cry every single day
hello guys
can i get your knowledge about How Cultural and Global Issues Affect Communication
This is a maths server
hello, I'd just like some possible advice about learning math. I'm on my first math class in uni and it's analysis. I'm having a really hard time learning these new concepts and I often have a lot of self doubt that I'm too dumb for all of this, or that my foundations are not good enough for this class. I really care about this course, maybe a bit too much as that led to me fearing coursework on it and subsequently procrastinating. I'm trying to pick myself up and demystify my cognitive distortions. I guess I'd just like to hear some experiences from more senior students perhaps if this experience sounds familiar to you
ranal is a confusing subject yea
especially if its ur first proof based math class
every person ive talked to has some version of nightmare associated with the class, its like a rite of passage
read the book
dont eat urself up for having trouble and keep a nice steady pace
keep all the theorems and definitions readily on hand
theres nothing to procrastinate
your seemingly fruitless staring at the material and not understanding is actually useful
Teaching something that i was not entirely competent in actually helped me understand it better
time has to be invested and almost none of it will be spent smoothly moving through the material
oh sorry i should have specified elementary analysis, is ranal rational analysis?
ohh
there is no rational
okay
lol real analysis
sorry hahahaha
at least i hope there is no rational analysis
whenever u feel like it doesnt make sense just remember ur trying to only assume you have defined the natural numbers and derive all the properties of real numbers from that
building them up from geometric considerations
wait hold on, I thought my elementary analysis class would follow something like terence tao's analysis which did start with proofs and definitions of natural numbers. My class is starting with limits and then derivatives and this is confusing me. We havent done much proofs, we have more applications of the theorems
sorry if i am confused with what we are doing itself haha
What exactly are you struggling with? Which concept do you find difficult to learn?
ryc wtf
i feel like I have so much to memorize for this class, like remembering how to find a limit, or determining continuity, and I have to memorize trigonometric functions and their limits as well as the laws for logarithms
