Hey @raw wren!
It looks like you tried to attach file type(s) that we do not allow (.zip). We currently allow the following file types: .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .mov, .mp4, .mpg, .png, .mp3, .wav, .ogg, .webm, .webp, .flac, .m4a.
Feel free to ask in #community-meta if you think this is a mistake.
So I went to doctor and they said I need to cut back on caffeine. I'm hurting!!!!

hi everyone
nut powder?
LOL, are we bringing that back?
nooooooo, I am getting chat withdrawals
you are a strong independent man

I have my dog, so I am never alone 😭
@raven orbit
i once did that
atom will get better
(it should)
for the moment it is based on an old version of electron
it is mostly why it is slow
yes i did
how did you choose the correct one
but i can't remember how
it won't recognise my font name even though it's installed
bruh
but i can't remember if i just used Menlo
I want Meslo LG L for Powerline which it refuses to listen to
it makes a while i didn't used atom 😦
i recommend using meslo lg for non-ascii symbols, but i really prefer fira code
for the text
jake has started taking on griff's intonation when he speaks 🤔
I'm using powerline status
i also
so without a powerline font it looks very strange
there is an option in my terminal emulator
hurrah
for some reason one powerline font doesn't work but a different one does
very strange
@arctic iris what're you trying to do in pandas. i am very very very beginner tho
@raven orbit what i liked is that i was able to run vim with the atom/vscode terminal
this is the main feature
XD
💩
cash
Trying to figure out how to do the following
most_common = df_rem_corrupt[col].mode()[0]
df_rem_corrupt.loc[df_rem_corrupt.index.tolist(), df_rem_corrupt.select_dtypes(exclude=['int64','float64']).columns.tolist()] = df_rem_corrupt.select_dtypes(exclude=['int64','float64']).fillna(most_common)
yeah, cash
Good night
I wish to learn russian
im only can say so whit the derisis like its oil in swedish but in german its like beer bruh its hard
ok above my pay grade lol ^_^ will send you to #❓|how-to-get-help but it would also help to write an explanation of what you're trying to achieve
oof no
noooooooo
clean your keyboards
I have an apple keyboard, the old ones

like a tech broke
@vivid acorn my keyboard cost like 15 euros, lol

it's fine
nice
I will do it if u pay me :^
My internal keyboard Has 2 broken arrows and the right shift does not work ^_^
xDD
That is the result of hours of using arrows when I was on sublime
cleaning the keyboard, pls...
Umm I'm trying to replace all NaN values in all in every numeric column with the most common value
And shift - arrows for selection
great
in vim, your j, k, l and ; will stop working instead
funny, ngl
what an improvement
Ouch lol
You seem to know about keyboards.
;-;
i don't really understand your 2nd line
but i'd just use this: https://pandas.pydata.org/docs/reference/api/pandas.DataFrame.fillna.html
with inplace=True
If you are a good vim user, you should not press that much hjkl
Would've worked but it doesn't
lol joys of things not working when they should
I saw the keychron k3, what don you think of it ?
@arctic iris #esoteric-python message
are you getting an error
Yup
(I am on mac and I’d like a mac and windows compatible keyboard si if you have any other ideas...)
Move to Linux
XD
what's the error?
Being 90% in the terminal, I can say I am already on Linux 😊
not really, i use like...
A value is trying to be set on a copy of a slice from a DataFrame
yeah idk the way you wrote that 2nd line i know it's wrong but idk how to fix it either, can you try the method i linked earlier, with inplace=True ?
with inplace=True it just changes your df in 1 step without using =
chili - I like minotritest
__chili__.gurkan()
I did, that's the error it gave out
communism is a good idea, as removing all javascript frameworks is a good idea
MINOR
it will never work
menorities
no
da
there is no such thing
WASM FTW
there is now
you are a minority
most_common = 9999999
new_df[new_df.select_dtypes(exclude=['int64','float64']).columns.tolist()] = new_df.select_dtypes(exclude=['int64','float64']).fillna(most_common)
That works
But now I need to understand how to replace the most_common with the most common value of that column
@raven orbit there are no "soft drugs"
Maybe using lambdas or something?
yes there are
def something(): ...
as opposed to hard drugs
yes
but i can't see why not using a lambda in this case
the way you use it is like
def function(arg): print(arg);return 2*arg
!e ```py
def test(): print('magic')
test()
@whole finch :white_check_mark: Your eval job has completed with return code 0.
magic
actually, punch cards are a very good way to store data
if you forget the fact that it is very long
and that it is a PROM
(not erasable)
and that it is not dense
and that it is sometimes a bit weak
(i mean, for example, with humidity, they can be destroyed)
except these little drawbacks, it is a very cool medium to use
^_^
sry spyro i have to head out soon, i hope you get some help in the help channels
def replace_missing_values(df, col_to_def_val_dict):
new_df = df.fillna(col_to_def_val_dict)
c_df = new_df.select_dtypes(exclude=['int64','float64'])
new_df[c_df.columns.tolist()] = c_df.fillna(c_df.mode().iloc[0])
c_df = new_df.select_dtypes(include=['int64','float64'])
new_df[c_df.columns.tolist()] = c_df.fillna(c_df.median())
return new_df
Got it working 😄
nice nice
Good thanks :)
hey how to call a function in another function under the same class
@peak frigate Just as a reference (your numbers may vary)

what are you coding btw @blissful mauve
oh, nice
have you used vsc before btw?
oh, pycharm is better for you?
I used to use pycharm back when I was on windows
just decided to get vscodium on linux
didn't see much of a difference
ic
yea I only used it for really basic stuff so idk much about it
but sounds interesting
pycharm over powershell if your starting out right, because of the color separations?
I'd use pycharm but I don't like the bloat of having multiple ides installed
since I don't only use python
lol
yea, i'd use my mic but I don't have 50 messages yet to be verified
I heard the same thing

Yes. Brand new
Ok will do
I feel like it would be better for people who are new to coding to try out linux
sort of gets you into the coding mindset
Makes sense
Better to understand the code and put it iinto your own words in a way
Yeah. Need to develop that muscle memory
instead of just copy & paste
Brain muscle*
yea, recall is another nice way to learn code, repeating someone else's code without actually understanding it isn't necessarily the best way to learn
I highly suggest lua, and using the love2d engine if you want to get your hands dirty right off the bat
Ill be back on later tonight. hope to see you guys on here. I appreciate the advice!
it's so easy to make a 2d game on lua within 10 hours of learning that language
yea, I had to make a game as a final project for one of my uni classes
lua & python are both really beginner friendly languages
@whole rover cya later mate
what is that
are you using unreal engine or smth
or are those tools inside of pycharm
oh nice
that's interesting
so you're more interested in front-end stuff
yea
heard about it
I find working on private servers a nice way to learn a bit about game development
sort of mess around with a game's code
to see how it works
ah
lol
did you make that?
good night @wind fern
you are in the right server my brother
you can ask any python related questions here

Hilarious
ha.
that takes a lot of practice.
@raven orbit @warm tendon Can you explain this thinking procedural thing you said before, I'm curious.
eh?
like, i don't understand
it's just, thinking logically
Break everything down into steps until there's no steps left to break it down into
it's broken -> why -> is there error? -> if yes, what is error. etc etc etc
that's basically what I do
Do binary search on your code to find the error 😄
can you break down break dance
sometimes its
it's broken -> why -> lets run it again -> its running -> why ? LOL
yes, you can

I'd make each major movement a function consisting of minor movements
and then run all the major movements one after another in a while True
happy now?
bye bye gotta sleep see u guys in a few hours
thats coding, not thinking?
bye
basically I think in pseudocode
i just think
u do u
the thinking analytically thing, it's more just thinking logically lul
follow the steps that make sense

guys,what app is good for coding?
@hearty heath where i learned it from !
requires a pointer to the parent node which i did not have 😔
like an IDE or to learn how to code?
this is orenge
oranj
Ahh right. So the first part of your solution is finding the node with equal value.
Ok, I get it now.
I'm sure I learned this at some point
create/learn
i find that in the first part just in case i need it
ok, time to go to the meeting
〰️

^ @hearty heath this is directly code from the Open University
and it is frickin disgusting
the usage of global in a inner function 🤮
Ah 😄
Which module do they use Python on?
I wasn't supposed to access this code, just run the program
this is T312

they only showed the preview
Oh right. I heard they are have some new Data Science courses that use R btw.
but I went and took a look at the trinket link in the html source

Wondering when Hemlock will be back on
We rocking in VC 1 now?
And @raw wren I totally agree lmao I've learned more in this discord server then in school.
Hey Griff 👋
Heyo
And like this Dyson Sphere thing I've never heard of it before and now I know a lot about the idea.
@raw wren I partially agree with it but I also agree with @charred creek just because It brings up stupid questions especially with async.
They understand how to watch youtube videos...
To put it simple.
I think that a discord bot can be a good thing for certain people but others that are very dependent on other people It's a bad starting point.
Yea
I moved on from discord.py quickly
First thing I've coded in python was something to send serial data from a Node.js twitch bot to an arduino.
damn
I mean it wasn't efficient but it worked whenever someone donated to my stream it shot me with water I made a good $50 from it.
Yea @raw wren a discord server has I think a 100 or 200 channel limit or something like that
500 😐
Actually a decent amount
Or what about a website or something.
hey
O yea I forgot that.
def my_function(s: str, n: int, v: float) -> bool:
return s == "Hello" and n > 0 and v < 0
And don't IDEs use it?
It can also be used by a static type checker.
Which is a program that looks at your code and checks that everything is consistent. (For example, you're not passing a string into a function that only takes an integer.)
@charred creek So basically It's just a good habit to use?
def check(reaction, user: message.author):
return user == message.author and str(reaction) in self.dm_reactions
from typing import Dict, List, Tuple
def my_function(s: Dict[str, str], n: Tuple[float, float, float], v: List[int]) -> bool:
dict_val = s.get("Cool", None)
tuple_val = n[1]
list_val = v[-1]
return dict_val == "Hello" and tuple_val > list_val
yes
@raw wren do pip install mypy then check your code by doing mypy myscript.py at the terminal.
k Thanks!
Ok I will thanks!

Think of a subclass as being a more specific version of its parent.
In this case Nerd is a subclass of Person.
@charred creek you cut out...
You might have Dog as a subclass of Mammal.
And Mammal as a subclass of Animal.
class Shape(ABC):
def __init__(self, width: int, height: int):
self.width = width
self.height = height
def area(self):
raise UnimplementedError()
class Rectangle(Shape):
def area(self):
return self.height * self.width
class Triangle(Shape):
def area(self):
return (self.height * self.width) / 2
🙂
Assuming the base of the triangle is the width.
Actually, a square is a rectangle. So this is an example of code-reuse.
class Square(Rectangle):
def __init__(self, side_len):
Rectangle.__init__(self, side_len, side_len)
!e
class Shape:
def __init__(self, width: int, height: int):
self.width = width
self.height = height
def area(self):
raise UnimplementedError()
class Rectangle(Shape):
def area(self):
return self.height * self.width
class Triangle(Shape):
def area(self):
return (self.height * self.width) / 2
tri = Triangle(3, 5)
sqr = Rectangle(5, 5)
rct = Rectangle(10, 5)
lst_of_shapes: list[Shape] = [tri, sqr, rct]
for shape in lst_of_shapes:
print(shape.area())

That's great advice Griff 🙂
About it taking a while for the correct structure to jump out at you.
Hey Fred
There shouldn't be... 👀
Hello all
Companies make acquisitions for a few reasons:
- to break into a new market/business
- to get the staff and knowledge from the company
- to reduce competition
