Book your PyCon US stay in the official hotel block 🏨 🛏️
The PSF makes agreements with nearby hotels to offer rooms at a discounted rate, but hasn't yet reached the contractual minimum. If you haven't already booked a room for PyCon US, you should first buy tickets to PyCon US if you haven't already, and then consider booking in the official block. They're even offering free swag to those who do. See their blog post for details.
To add my voice to what is said in the blog post: as a repeat PyCon US attendee, I can attest that the lobbies of hotels in the block are where a lot of the action happens in the after-hours of the conference, and people often go there to group up and depart on adventures in the host city. It's like the dorm for a summer camp that you actually wanted to go to, where everyone is an adult who can do whatever they want. If you want to make the most of your PyCon US attendance, you want to be in the official hotel block.

Hey all! We know some of you have been waiting for this: EuroPython 2026 tickets are now available online 🐍
The event is running from the 13th - 19th of July, in the beautiful city of Kraków, in Poland. We’ve got 2 days of tutorials, 3 days of talks, and then a weekend of sprints.
This particular EuroPython is a bit special: we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the conference, and we’ve got a super cool keynote to match: Guido van Rossum - the creator of Python - will be the guest on an episode of the core.py podcast, recorded live from the conference stage by Łukasz Langa and Pablo Galindo Salgado!
Workshop tickets are limited, and the ticket price will go up, so please try and book ASAP 🙂
PyCon US is next week! See you in Long Beach, CA?
Hello! We're in the final countdown (yiiiikes) to PyCon US. If you're curious what PyCon US is about, you can take a look at the schedule, the list of events, and the list of companies that will be in the Expo Hall. But really the formal program is only like half of the experience. It's a gathering of 2K+ people who are all there for the love of Python, and just want to spend a weekend+ talking about it and learning about it and also just hanging out shooting the shbreeze or playing board games or whatever with a like-minded group of people. The best description of it I've heard is "like a family reunion you actually want to go to."
Disclaimer: I work for the Python Software Foundation, the nonprofit behind Python & also PyCon US, so I'm biased, but I'm also right 😉 I'm v happy to answer questions if you've got 'em; it is the time of year when I am living and breathing PyCon US so the odds are very good I know the answer to whatever it is you are wondering about:)

Webinar: “Django Database Performance Tips” with Andrew Brookins
Django is one of the most popular Python Web Frameworks. However, optimizing django performance can often be difficult. Most performance problems boil down to one thing: the database. According Andrew Brookins, the only way to master Django performance is to master database performance.
In this Webinar, Andrew is going to take us on a journey through an app that he created to demonstrate all the bottlenecks that arise when trying to optimize your Django app.
Andrew Brookins has over a decade of experience with Django and Relational Databases. That experience spans DevOps, application development, and platform engineering. He has worked on ecommerce sites, mobile APIs, comic book readers, particle simulation systems, learning and volunteering apps, and now works on a Databases as a Service at Redis Labs. Andrew has also authored "Temple of Django Database Performance" which dives into the even greater detail than this webinar does. Furthermore, he has recently released a course on "Redis for Python Developers" at Redis University.
The webinar is on Monday 10th August at 17:00 UTC, find this in your timezone at http://time.unitarium.com/utc/1700

This weekend: FOSDEM 2021 & the Python DevRoom
Tomorrow, the 2021 edition of FOSDEM will kick off and, this year, it will be held entirely online. This means that you can watch a lot of great talks in various areas of open-source development from the comfort of your own home. Just like with the previous "physical" editions organised in Brussels (Belgium), it's a free event, which means that everyone should be able to attend and enjoy the conference!
Python DevRoom
A lot of the talks take place in DevRooms that focus around a specific topic and one that may be of particular interest to you is the Python DevRoom. On Sunday, 7 February, speakers from all around the world will give talks about Python and answer your questions after. Personally, I'll be giving a talk about Python's methods and how they relate to something called descriptors, but there are many other interesting topics that will be discussed during the day.

Submit your questions for the Python Steering Council
Do you have a question for the Python Steering Council? Now is the time to ask it! The Steering Council is recording a keynote talk for PyCon and is currently gathering questions to answer during that talk. They will obviously have to make a selection, as they don't have time to answer all questions.
About the Python Steering Council
The Python Steering Council is the committee that governs the Python programming language. It accepts or rejects the Python Enhancement Proposals (PEPs) and tries to maintain the quality and stability of the Python programming language in general. A more formal description of the Python Steering Council can be found in PEP 8016 (https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-8016/). Real Python also published a more informal introduction of the Steering Council: https://realpython.com/lessons/python-steering-council/. (Do note that the Real Python article is slightly dated; the current members of the council are Barry Warsaw, Brett Cannon, Carol Willing, Pablo Galindo Salgado, and Thomas Wouters.)
Submit your questions here: https://app.sli.do/event/qdtzzpmd.

PyConZA Talk Submissions
Talk submissions are open for the 2021 South African Pycon, PyConZA - https://za.pycon.org/.
The conference will be on 7 and 8 October entirely online, most likely from 12:00ish to 17:00ish South African Standard Time.
That's GMT+2, so the times are convenient for Africa, Europe and much of Asia, although probably less so for the rest of the world. PyConZA interested in all kinds of talks, as long as they're related to Python. They also welcome talks from both first-time speakers and experienced presenters. Find out more about the format and the process here: https://za.pycon.org/talks/submit-talk/
Hello Python Discord! Join us over on Reddit this Saturday at 17:00 pm UTC For an AMA with the developers of the #black-formatter
The AMA will be taking place on This Thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Python/comments/plvtlx/were_the_core_team_behind_the_popular_python/, which has been posted early so you can ask your questions ahead of time, so if you've got a question you can ask it right away! Additionally, because the devs live across Europe and America, they might be answering questions earlier, and go later than the scheduled time, so if you miss the scheduled time you can go ahead and ask your question anyway.
Because of the environment and moderation of this Discord server, you might have noticed the Black Developers have joined the server as it lets them discuss their project with lots of interested folks. But if you haven't and are looking for a really in depth talk about what the Black Formatter is, you can check this video from PyCon 2019: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esZLCuWs_2Y.
Have some questions for the team? Now's a great time to ask!
PyCon India is starting this weekend!

You can buy your tickets there: https://in.pycon.org/2021/#tickets. The complete schedule can be found on their website.

Source Code Poetry Submissions
Source Code Poetry is a unique long-lasting project, telling the world that software developing is a creative job, and that you can even write poetry in code. SCP even believes it's sort of an avant-garde art form. Poems can be interpreted in so many different ways, but the most important thing is to evoke different thoughts and feelings between readers.
SCP is a non-profit initiative, and every year (for 8 years now!) they try to unite developers from all over the world. It is taking submissions from 20th September to 19th November 2021.
You can find them on their website: https://www.sourcecodepoetry.com/, Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CodePoetry, twitter: https://twitter.com/poetry_code and IG: https://www.instagram.com/sourcecodepoetry
