Nope, no idea
Hopefully we'll find out soon
Not sure. You can visit pyweek.org for more info
hi
Nope, not necessarily
It's currently not even August and we haven't fully finished the code jam. We don't have a date set for PyWeek yet and some patience would be appreciated.

you can check at https://pyweek.org !
Since I know people are eager for dates. PyWeek 32 is scheduled for September 19-25, 2021. A proper announcement will go out this Sunday with more information to follow.
Thank you!!
When was the previous pyweek game jam?
This spring, it happens twice a year
Like a beat-em-up?
Like brawlhalla?
yo
whats this jam about?
Writing games in Python
It is running again from 19th-25th September
k
Where can we see the rules
Thanks dude

@hot flume Hi, I remember you saying on Friday that there would be some sort of announcement about PyWeek going out on Sunday.
#pyweek-game-jam message
I was just wondering when I should expect to see it because I did not see it. 😕

which libraries do people use to create these games?
Maybe, possibly?
Check this out for rules, specifically point 2: https://pyweek.readthedocs.io/en/latest/rules.html#entries-are-to-be-written-from-scratch
Got caught up with other stuff and it fell off my priority list. It will get done this upcoming weekend
if it says 30 days b4 the jam can new releases be less than 30 days
like my package was published last november
but im plannijg on making a new release in mid august to early september
Ok, no worries whatsoever. I'll wait. Thanks.
do we need to use pygame?
No. Some suggestions for engines and libraries here: https://pyweek.readthedocs.io/en/latest/libraries.html
oh ok thanks
PyWeek 32 is scheduled for September 19-25, 2021. More information will be released within the coming weeks.
PyWeek is a twice-a-year game jam that has been running for the past 15 years. Starting on the first day of the jam you start coding, designing, and developing your game. This can be done as an individual or with a team. By the end of the 7 days you must submit your entry on the PyWeek website for it to be counted as a valid submission. Visit pyweek.org for more details!
Too bad I won't be able to participate in the next one 😦
just realized not only will it be my first game jam, but I also have school. YAY (sarcastic)!
Oh yeah I just realized that as well! I still hope I'll be able to participate even if I have school lol. That depends on how much work I'll get this year cuz I'm going into my freshman year and you never know what to expect in high school lol
ya I should be able to do it I will have a couple hours of free time everyday
yeah I hope I have time to participate in this game jam
#bot-commands
HI
@topaz herald I don't think this is the right channel for that. If you need help, please visit #❓|how-to-get-help
doesn't seem like you have any use for the print() in the before last line
also recommendation use user.lower() just it also works for people that capitalize or whatnot
hi
Uh... no? It still uses its website to manage everything, doesn't it?
that's for sure some staff member, and they meant the chat from irc channel to discord ig?
ah ok
What is game jam
hi
can we though?
nvm its the first one on the list lol
i might try
I just made a calculator
Nice!
Well
I've often wanted to do this. they should let you use whatever python libs you want.
You can!
i thought you had to use one off that page?
looking around it seems unrestricted. im sure that wasn't the case in the past.
i believe its mostly unrestricted, but it has to follow https://pyweek.readthedocs.io/en/latest/rules.html#entries-are-to-be-written-from-scratch
It's pretty much always been that case as long as it follows the above linked rules
Maybe I should make clear that that page is a list of suggestions, not a menu of options
what is this
See the channel topic/description
So where will the voting be held?
Not sure. The next PyWeek is Sep 19-25, 2021, so I would imagine sometime before that?? We should have gotten more info about it a few weeks ago, but @hot flume has been busy lately and hasn't made any formal announcement about it yet. Hopefully we will find out more soon.
Voting is at pyweek.org, as is registration, theme voting etc
Of course you can! Visit pyweek.org for more info! The next PyWeek is scheduled for Sep 19-25, 2021.
its finally scheduled
Yes! It has been since #pyweek-game-jam message
im bad at programming but im going to try anyway :)
Don't worry, you should definitely try, even if you aren't good at programming! You still have some time before the start of PyWeek to learn more about Python, and hopefully, you will learn even more during the actual competition!
pyweek, nice
Finally the formal announcement came
idk if i can join bc school is super busy
Yeah, I'm still thinking about it too
For me, school starts Sep 1 and don't know how busy I will be since I'm going into 9th grade
school started two weeks ago for me
Oh
you're going into hs? nice.
Yep. It's a new experience for me
i just started 9th grade too lol. it was a bit of a sudden start, especially because im doing in person school after a year of virtual
Oh, oof
I had some virtual and some in person last year so that's not the case for me
were there many covid cases at your school? or was it fairly safe
Um, not sure. There were definitely cases, just don't have the exact number. I thought it was ok
It definitely felt weird the first day of in person, but I got over it lol
our middle school had only a few cases, but our high school had a bit
yeah
What is the topic that we need to build our game on?
Voting for the Theme: Opens September 12th
Thanks, didn't see that part
How do i participate?
You make an account on pyweek.org and register for this challenge: https://pyweek.org/32/
Then, on Sept 19 you can start coding a game in Python! You have until September 25th to submit
@hot flume This is probably a stupid question, but am I allowed to submit a game that I have created previously for PyWeek?
The code for the game must be coded during PyWeek itself. Specific game logic cannot be coded in advance
Yeah, that's what I thought. Thanks
how many members can there be in a team?
ig 4 or 5
alright
There's no limit
forming a team of 10 people :thonk:
I feel like this can go very wrong
i mean
if somebody get's a whole organization to work on a game
poof
HEY YO in the events it says there is something going on
i did not understand what it meant
it is some kinda competition where you make a game usijng python and post it in the website link they gave?
Part of the challenge there is to organize people and keep things productive
i don't think necessarily so
as long as you help the team (be it assets, etc) it should be fine imo
Like i just know a very limited coding stuff
Other than that my knowledge doesn’t go as for as while loops and for loops
are you good with assets, specifically graphics?
😞
any prizes ?
pretty sure you get a prize too
can i do it solo?
i want to join if i dont have a team still. although itll be a pain
Yup! You can join solo
#878682981789761536 wanna join my team i am also alone
sure.
Can staff participate in pyweek?
Anyone can participate, including the organizers since the community are the judges
Alright, thanks :D
the one thing that I don't understand is that a team could start working from now like make all the assets, some code and other stuff and just say we worked and made these in the week itself
Well, that'll be hard to do without knowing the theme. Considering PyWeek is just for fun I don't see a compelling reason a team would do that
fair
is it supposed to be a game?
cuz idk game dev with py
hi did anyone could help me with pysimbot?
does our project needs to be 100% python?
This explains the requirements for how much Python: https://pyweek.readthedocs.io/en/latest/rules.html#target-platform
hello
Basically, I registered and when I pressed register, it stated this: "Username already exists". So I changed it and inputted a new Password, but then it said "Email already registered". So I tried logging in but it says invalid password so I have no idea which is my pass and user
Hmm....maybe try resetting your password? Isn't there a "Forgot my password?" link or smth?
I'm not sure if I completely understand your problem tbh
I would like to just completely remove my email from the db and start again.
Oh, so if that's the case, I believe you would have to be logged in if you want to completely delete your account.
Problem is, I don’t know which username or password
Isn't the username just your email? And for password, as I said, try resetting your password with the "Forgot your password" link or smth
Or if there is a support email somewhere, shoot them an email!
Np
Should I join pyweek game jam as a beginner (sort of)?
Can i run pygame on iOS ??
Hi guys. I've created an account on PyWeek site and looked at the FAQ for entering the game jam as an individual but I honestly do not see the "register for event" button. FAQ says to look on the sidebar but there's no side bar 🤔
probably, if you make an ios executable idk how that works though
why not. you're going to learn some frameworks (perhaps
and other stuff
thanks, I thought it's only for advanced people
wau this already here umph umph
Is this a competition?
it is
ok
are gui modules allowed?, like pygamegui https://pygame-gui.readthedocs.io/en/latest/quick_start.html
read #854364491395629096 might help u :))
No, not that. That is for the Python code jam. @north kestrel You should read #pyweek-faq
ohh alr
this is too complex for me to understand
Can someone hep me with my code
Hello
The PyWeek website includes Google Poly as a resource, but it has been taken down by Google.
Report! This is a bot! It cant solve captcha 😂
pyweek will start in september 16 th?
Similarly, the Teamups website also does not work https://pyweek.readthedocs.io/en/latest/resources.html#finding-collaborators. I submitted an issue regarding this yesterday in the PyWeek docs repo (https://github.com/pyweekorg/docs) . so I guess you could also submit an issue for removing Poly as a resource.
Documentation for PyWeek.org. Contribute to pyweekorg/docs development by creating an account on GitHub.
Hmm alright
Hey i have a doubt how can we register team for pyweek?
September 19-25
what is the price
$0.00 I believe...
Oh wait did you mean prizes? Prizes and price are 2 different things lol
There are definitely prizes
No worries
whats the prize?
personally i find it fun and would compete regardless, also im not the best programmer and this gives me an oppurtinity to learn from those that know what they're doing
You get the pink PyWeek champions role on Discord for sure, but don't know about the other prizes
for the glory!
last time I competed I learned a TON in a very short amount of time
I'd say I learned more in that week than the prior month or two
So many concepts I hadn't even considered
Also met some interesting people in the process
10/10, will try again
Is there usually a theme for these things?
Yes, there will be theme voting I believe the week right before the jam starts (so it would be the week of September 12 in this case)
Ah awesome, It sounds like fun. I assume most people use pygame?
Yeah, PyGame is definitely a popular module for game development.
Might see if I can give it a go! See what terrible terrible creation I can come up with
Yeah, certainly give it a try! I'm sure you will learn a lot from participating!
Do many people enter on their own? I would feel bad adding a handicap to a team! 😂
Yes, there are definitely some people who entered on their own! If that's how you feel, then maybe that's your best option 😆
Problem is im busy with work / home stuff so I dont feel it would be fair to team up and then let them down by not having time!
I agree, it certainly wouldn't be fair!
oh thank you very much 😄
no problemo 🙂
@hot flume When does PyWeek registration close?
You can register for PyWeek up until the event ends
Oh ok, thanks
tbw I thought you were a mod bc you're so professional
what if you dont know hgow to code a game
learn
Then have Pyweek be your time to learn, there's really no pressure. If you don't know anything I probably recommend you work alone, but other than that.. have fun!
Thanks I'll try tomorrow after school for me
🤣🤣 lol unfortunately I am not a mod but I certainly seem like one, right? I just always try to answer questions when I am available cuz sometimes I'm just bored and when I am, I usually go on Discord and see what is happening on the server
You can join on your own to be safe if you are up for it
If you think exams will limit how much time you can devote to PyWeek, then maybe consider trying again next PyWeek. That's just my recommendation.
https://realpython.com/asteroids-game-python/ I liked this guide, RP always has the best guides. But that'll get you introduced to Pygame
I do the same if I get bored
Hi. is this pyweek's server? https://discord.gg/narPHDq
i got directed in pyglet's server
If you read the announcement in there it should explain things
thanks
That server is now inactive, for the record
Is there a member cap?
for teams? No
If you can organize and actually get something reasonable out the end, that's a feat in of itself
mobilisin' the masses
:ok_hand: applied mute to @cosmic sedge until <t:1629913946:f> (9 minutes and 59 seconds) (reason: duplicates rule: sent 4 duplicated messages in 10s).
@cosmic sedge spamming to get your message count up would defeat the purpose. You have been voice-banned for two weeks.
hi
Im new to python and programming in general
do ppl use frameworks or libraries to make this games?
yes
Ive only made like simple terminal programs and a calculator with tkinter lol
using pygame u can do more
You can probably make cool terminal games with libraries like blessed
are the topic preselected and made into a selectable form or we choose the topic like by typing out ?
me too XD
why can't we chat there
lets the make the whole python server one team
240k champions
for pyweek 30
a team of 7 members is good (i think)
prompt toolkit is also good
you can make good looking guis in terminal with it
Because it's archived!
no i am telling they have general channel which is locked
But you're not meant to use it
lol
@sweet mica read the announcement in the announcements channel
Hey guys for the python game jam do you need to use pygame or can you just use python?
Ping me if have answers
It doesn't have to be Pygame, it can be any python lib/framework etc for making games
@hidden kraken
So you can use just python as a basic language?
I mean sure. You would probably be restricted to only TUI-based games if you're using nothing but pure Python, unless you're interacting with something like the windows API
but can i use pygame?
Yes
Will the test for the game jam atay the same
I am talking about the table
?
Guys how do I register for the game jam ?
So I register in that page and I am done
When do I have to do the test to have access to the game jam ?
?
There is no test
Yes
no tests, just make a team, submit by the deadline and you can vote
But there was a test for the game jam (make a table) before the last game jam
@limpid heart .
There was
?
There was a test for last years summer code jam as well
there was also not a test for earlier this year's game jam
so the theme seems to be, game jam, no test, make your own team, submit a game
code jam = qualify and be assigned a team
game jam can run alone or with 222
code jam was teams of x
+/- 1
My guess is because you pick teams there's no qualifier
Oh
be kinda rude to say your friend can't join your team because they didn't qualify
if the team is happy with the team let them be is the philosophy
Oh thats cool
Thats a good change
Oh so there is
So there is a competition to join the game jam
Yeah
the way the voting works is entirely different
The whole format is different, they just happen here 🙂
I think pyweek is much older than this server
oof
based on being twice a year and pyweek 32
whereas discord is no more than 6 years old?
Oh yeah
I quite like both concepts for the contests
still gotta find me a team for this game jam
But that's what the other channel is for
I don't know maybe I will do it alone and may be not
I am 13 years old btw I have just 1 year experience with python @limpid heart
Is it bad ?
What about you ?
20+ years older with about the same experience in python
Oh
XD
Haha
Oh what you are not 20 years old but 20 years older
Cool keep learning python
And enjoy
Uh? This isn't #vertical-concert-videos-that-were-shot-landscape-why-oh-why-do-people-do-that
We discuss the pyweek game jam here, which is when we make games with python over the course of a week
Yes this is not in the right channel. Krzysztof is right
cant wait for pyweek game jam
When do signups end?
I think they end on the last day of the competition (September 25)
#pyweek-game-jam message
yep, they end when the contest is over
tune
Hi @hot flume , I have a couple of questions.
- How is it possible to submit an entry with a description of what you want to code during the jam if the theme wasn't announced yet?
- Is it possible to cancel my registration if I realize I can't participate for whatever reason?
Thanks so much!
Btw sorry I keep pinging you, I just don't know anyone else who might be able to answer my questions. If you know someone else who might have the answers to my questions, please let me know. Thanks again!
Yup
cc @woeful tree, looks like cert expired again
expired again 👀
Oh, sorry folks, this was supposed to be automatically renewing on letsencrypt
What do you want to do with it? The website source code is here: https://github.com/pyweekorg/pyweekorg
I'm happy to look at pull requests but probably best to open an issue first describing what you want to do.
Django web application for pyweek.org. Contribute to pyweekorg/pyweekorg development by creating an account on GitHub.
The cert has not been fixed yet, no. Sorry for the delay, but both of us admins are having access issues to the VM (for various reasons). (and I am madly trying to run PyConline AU which is in just over a week from now, so I'm a little distracted 😛 )
Should've used https://github.com/caddyserver/caddy with automatic cert management ^^
I am using automatic cert generation but it's failing for some reason and as I said both admins are without access to the server right now.
The link for the game jam is not safe
It says
What to do
HOW DO I CREATE A team!?!?
Sorry for caps
Pls
Somone
it's safe, just that the cert haven't been fixed yet.
@woeful tree
We're pursuing a migration to a new host, please stand by
Hey, is anything interested in teaming up?
Im a 15 year old from Germany and programming in Python since a year, already used pygame once for a really simple game.
Hit me up if ur interested!
dpy or other?
for the Python Game Jam :)
Hi i would like to join and team up
I would look for a team but I have no experience with PyGame
This channel is for general discussions about PyWeek, please use #878682981789761536 if you would like to join a team
when will the next game jam start after this one?
That's long TBD. We haven't even started this one so there is no way the organizers are thinking about the next one already.
I can't open the page
You have a whole week
Ahhh thx
likely next March or so. It's every 6 months give or take
The event has been ongoing for I believe over a decade (if it's 2 a year and we're on 32 it'd be 16 years) they have a bit of a schedule at this point.
https://pyweek.org/challenges/ Pyweek1 was indeed in 2005. Almost all of them are either September/October or March/April
I think we will aim for end of March, make it as close to 6 months as we can
Might move a little to avoid conflicts with other popular jams
is godot allowed? to use as game engine?
will need to check if its osi
ive just read the rules
but uh, i might be incorrect in parsing it
Only if you program it with Python: https://github.com/touilleMan/godot-python
nice and thank you
lez go
Yay https://pyweek.org/32 is back up and running!
Yeah you're right
Pygame
when will be next gamejam
September 19!
Is Pygame good for coding game lmao
Sure, depends on what you want to achieve
There are a lot of other game engines for Python: https://pyweek.readthedocs.io/en/latest/libraries.html
well I use PyKyra in school
I've not heard of that one
This thing that hasn't had a release since 2002? http://freshmeat.sourceforge.net/projects/pykyra
for pyweek, probably, pygame is good for smaller projects but if you want to develop something big pygame is not really what you want
what is entry url?
Do I need to apply or something?
Yes, you have to register to participate in PyWeek, and you can join solo or with a team. Use this link to register: https://pyweek.org/32
If you would like to join as a team, check out #878682981789761536 !
I'm gonna be using game maker studio 2 is that allowed?
Probably not, as that does not look like a Python library.
Hmm. This PyWeek might be the one to give https://arcade.academy a try.
Please do! The 2.6 release is so fast, and if you want to make shaders, its a whole new world.
Tons of examples here to get ideas:
I hope more games are written in python in future.. 🙂, but not too much slow obviously
ı dont think so
oops
pygame exists
so you should probably have pygame as umm making a game out of only basic python
it's...
this.
yeah the code is complicated for a simple number guessing game like that.
oh and it gets even more complicated when going into games like.. say... hangman.
what is tha?
Hello
Hello
heello, i want to work together with a team who knows about 2d graphics game (pixel art ...), with pygame library , pls if you want dm me
i NEED a team to enter in this game jam?
no, you can enter solo too
awesome 👏
ty, do I need to put it onto a sprite sheet for use in pygame?
haven't looked much into this part yet
idk, I have never done these things, welcome
Everyone excited for theme poll reveal tonight? 😅
not really /j
hi guys, how good do you need to be to participate in this?
yes i am
I don't really think there's much of a requirement, I guess you just use whatever you know and do your best.
oh good
hi guys. im using pygame for first time and just made my first animation. Should I format it as a sprite sheet for use in pygame?
Sure... but are you aware of rule 6? https://pyweek.readthedocs.io/en/latest/rules.html#existing-artwork-music-and-sound-effects-may-be-used
You are not allowed to create art for your games before the competition, unless you publish it somewhere like https://opengameart.org/
Yeah im not premaking anything for the jam. Just want to get some muscle memory of how to do it...i am very new to all this lol
I mostly just posted here cause i was having trouble getting an answer in other channels
Ok, cool. So if you create sprite sheets then you have to crop the frames out of them after loading
PyGame doesn't have built-in support for sprite sheets
You could also save the frames out as separate images like man-walk-right-001.png and then load them as separate images
Okay cool. Thank you
Heres my first attempt at pixel art i think it came out decent
Yes I am!

is this the chat for help for pygame?
I'm not sure, I think it's just general stuff about the pyweek game jam
i need help with pygame tho...
check #game-development, this is for pyweek
theme voting starts soon?!
I'm so curious what it'll be this time
same
maybe it'll be goats this time
i want to participate
this time
it's always a super exciting time for me
is it your first?
yep
oh you've won
cooooool
yeah a few times
but only thanks to a really amazing team
which I won't be having this time round so I'll probably do less great :P
good luck tho
im working with my friend
Yeah you too. What library will you be using?
only one i am familiar with as of now is pygame
a good choice
I really like pygame's surface.scroll() function
yep
i made this thing where you fall and dodge objects
cool, I've made something like that too a while back
scroll() would do great there
yea
I once made a teleglitch clone in pygame
though I wasn't smart enough to get the procedural levels in
but I got that field of vision stuff working it was a lot of work
cool
sorry i gtg
see you later
bye
I will continue talking though
I also made a visual novel thingy in pygame that you scripted with .csv
but now I use panda3d and it is the greatest thing ever
if anyone here needs any help with that you can tag me
it can draw pretty much anything
The themes have been drawn and uploaded!
Good luck to you all! Looks fun... beyond my level though.. I'm new!
exciting!
pyweek is for all levels! you can even make a game with just print() and input()
Where did you find the themes?
I pressed vote
Mothership
Twelve Steps
Neverending
Poison Ivy
Sushi
Ah ok thx
neverending would be cool too
13254
yeah me too xD
for real?
yes exactly
if mothership is chosen I guess we'll see a lot of space games, fulfilling my wish earlier!
🍣
Sushi would be interesting too. Unagi is my favorite food ever.
If the theme is sushi I maaaay participate. I feel like it'd be super fun to make sushi characters
or a restaurant/sushi management game. I love those types of games
Is there a list of requirements and also previous examples? Where can I find more information please?
31254
is there a program that can send videos in this site: https://cartoonize-lkqov62dia-de.a.run.app | and then download the output result?
pls help me find a code or program
I think you may be lost. This channel is for discussing the PyWeek game jam. You should use a help channel.
oh yea. srry
can you still sign up for the gamejam or is registration closed
you can still sign up!
oh ok thank you
what field is required?
The text to appear on your profile page I think
you are right
uwu
I won't be able to participate, but just sayin', sushi is the best theme of all
this jam seems fun but im probably gonna participate next year
sign up
you have until the last second of the jam to register / submit an entry
https://pyweek.org/ top right corner Register Once logged in https://pyweek.org/32/entry_add/
Technically I think the site's always accepting new registrants
entries are limited to jam times schedules
you know in the code jam they said duck was the best theme, but the duck didn't win
can I still enter?
I did say duck was a bad theme smh
Yup!
Ah ok cool, I saw Pre-registration open was crossed so I was scared I didnt make it in time lol
time to cancel akarys
can I change my username on the pyweek.org website somehow?
Afaik, you cannot, unfortunately. I tried doing it and I don't see such an option anywhere.
ah rip
are pyweek judges allowed to judge based off of the code
or can they only judge based off the actual game
because im looking at the docs right now and technically code might count as "production"
PyWeek judges is the community at large. In the case of what the rules say, production is the general production of the game, probably not the code.
I ended up abandoning my old account and making a new one
wtf is this latin? lol
Reference site about Lorem Ipsum, giving information on its origins, as well as a random Lipsum generator.
Fascinating
for some reason when i try signing up in https://www.pygame.org/register it says invalid email so i cant make a account
You need to register on pyweek.org/32
ok thank you
btw what are the prizes for pyweek?
I believe that's TBD
PyWeek Champion role, the envy from everyone else
TBD?
To Be Dated.
Or To Be Determined.
alright
Just for fun little pixel art practice
Nice! I like it!
man thats so good
Yeah
are you allowed to make assets for you game before the game jam?
The goal is to provide a level playing field for all participants, so any resources used during the game jam must be available prior to the jam starting and be available and accessible to all the other participants.
There are more detailed requirements for what libraries are allowed, so please refer to this page for more details.
read #pyweek-faq
i cant create hyperlink in discord
@fathom estuary
ok
there's no fee you're free to enter
but its a game jam not a code jam
so you will be making games according to the theme
using one of the allowed libraries
how to join
Go to https://pyweek.org/32 and create an account
Go to the top right corner where you see your username and select register entry
ty

Can I too join py-week challenge?? Because I am not a master in python coding like you all; but I still might be of some help and assistance(in a team).
Awaiting for your reasonable reply
Please reply at your earliest..
Maybe ask in #878682981789761536

You can join solo
Done. Thanks for assistance..
Np
Wait can anyone join because I’m really bad but I think it would be fun to try
Yes, anyone can join! If you don't feel great about yourself, then your best bet is to join solo.
Lots of sample code here if you are looking for ideas: https://api.arcade.academy/en/latest/examples/index.html

Can I submit an infinite while loop because it's never-ending?
Excited to play the 80+ roguelite and infinite runner games that get made this time.
I love me a good roguelite! The more the merrier~
Yes, but it probably won't go very well :P
Lol.

nice idea.
will there be an official entry from aaaaAAAA this pyweek?

That's half the work right?
The theme is never ending--if you avoid submitting it it counts right?

looks like pyweek 30 had some goats anyway https://pyweek.org/30/entries/
Hecc yes. We love bureaucracy here
Good luck everyone.
Thank you for joining my abuse of the Events tab feature stage channel! :D
Good luck everyone!
Thanks for hosting!

I like that you get a bongocat emote for events lead

the sad thing about it is it can't move
Hi
👋 hi everyone
Can I still sign up for pyweek?
yeah i think so
I don't see a button to sign up anymore on the site tho
oh
perhaps try pressing the log in button you'll get to sign up
i forgot how i get it worked the first time
*oops it's the register button
You should be able to sign up still. Once you're logged into your account, you just need to register an Entry. It should be under the dropdown for your account (top right)
Hmmmm, hamburger menu -> your account name -> Register Entry?
Can i use godot for my game, as it uses gdsccript which is similar to python?
or any other game engine instead of direct coding?
aight but Panda3D is allowed D:
panda has python bindings
godot has it too if im not wrong
If you use the python bindings for godot that's totally fine~
https://github.com/touilleMan/godot-python this one right?
Oh and also in which format should i submit my game
yup! That's the one.
As for how to submit your game, check out this link: https://pyweek.readthedocs.io/en/latest/packaging.html
tysm
Yes it's community support tho
can we use a game engine that can be coded with python?
Yes, if you code it with Python.
cool theme good luck everyone!
@round pewter By remaining calm. There's a Register button top right corner.
can anyone tell me some websites for free to use / CC art?
going on 11 and a half hours now, i need sleep :(
icon8 iirc, it has some free icons
PT cool
i'm not sure if it's icon8 or icons8 you'll have to google that
aight thanks
here's the site: https://icons8.com/
👍
Hello can anyone say how to upload the diary? Thanks.
tbh i dont like the theme that much...
I'll make it about the afterlife
yup!
oo
Do i need to add a sprite to a group even if its a single image to draw it onto my scene?
Hey @nocturne fjord!
It looks like you tried to attach file type(s) that we do not allow (.zip). We currently allow the following file types: .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .mov, .mp4, .mpg, .png, .mp3, .wav, .ogg, .webm, .webp, .flac, .m4a.
Feel free to ask in #community-meta if you think this is a mistake.
What game engine?
Pygame
No
okay thanks.
Remember there are discord servers for many of the game / graphics libraries 🙂
o
Hi everyone...
Is there any problem if the game is more like a story telling?
Something like "you have multiple options, select one and watch the story going until next choice" ...
We judge each other's games
So make what you want 🙂 narrative games are still games
Yey. Thanks 🤗
Interesting to make a narrative with the theme, I'm intrigued 🙂
I'm trying something that is unexpected and at the same time expected. Even if it's the worst game, I'm learning a lot from this haha
what is a good python game engine?
Would this library be ok to use? https://pypi.org/project/crashreport/
All that matters is what you learn along the way, not if you get the coveted pink name
Using GitHub Copilot is by no means cheating, correct?
I wouldn't think so
The repo is only 16 days old, but would that matter much since its only job is for making crash dumps?
Also, I started my project: https://github.com/Gaming32/Pyweek32Sandbox
A hey i am to to gamejams how to like participate ? And submit the project ?
Hey! If you want to join PyWeek, you want to create an account on https://pyweek.org/32 and create an entry by going to the top right corner of the page where you see your username, click on it and select "register entry". Then, fill out the required information that appears on the page. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Apparently file and screenshot uploads have been broken on the site because the AWS credentials file didn't get copied off the old server. It is fixed now so upload away!
deciding to switch to godot python after racking my head at relearning pygame
good luck
thx, i work much better in godot so i think i'll do better than with pygame
Not really. There isn't an adjudicator. PyWeek is judged by other entrants who will make their own minds up whether to vote to disqualify an entry.
Personally it doesn't bother me if you use it.
You could always use it in development and turn it off when you release.
That's true
Or make it an optional dependency :)
Where if the users have it installed, it uses it
Otherwise it uses a fallback
This has only been out for 9 days?
they have been published to a public searchable index such as PyPI, GitHub, or this handbook for at least 30 days before the competition;
is databases allowed?, like sqlite3, its not in libraries but idk
yea im pretty sure
If someone knows how to submit pls dm me its my first time 😀
can we take assets from google or do we have to make our own
Does my partner have to make a pyweek account or can we just use 1 account to enter as a team
I just dont want to accidently get mingled in with singles
hey guys how will we be submitting our game in pyweek?
sry i don't know abt that
If anyone is using arcade 2.6: There is a small bug that can case some border artifacts on sprites in 2.6.2. We'll release a new version very soon to fix this. It's especially a problem when zooming or when using hidps displays. The build in camera might also get zoom support in 2.6.3.
You can also just use the development branch directly : https://github.com/pythonarcade/arcade/archive/refs/heads/development.zip
Your partner is supposed to have an account. As a last-ditch option, you can add "anonymous" as a team member
Your partner won't be able to give awards or rate other entries without an account
how we all doing so far
I've been working on juice this morning, it is going well. Pretty explosions
amazing
Hi all, weird to ask but if anyone needs I can do code reviews starting from 24th
Fun fact, I have almost no classes in my code. It's all coroutines: https://github.com/lordmauve/axium/blob/master/axium.py
:o
I use pyweek to experiment with unusual game dev paradigms. Last time I did a web-based game using brython to code a game in a javascript game engine. This time I'm just using pysdl2 but doing all of the game logic in a purely functional programming style. Like Mauve, I too have very few classes, and exactly 0 in the game logic so far. The only classes are in the minimal engine I've implemented.
I haven't written a single line of code yet, I've just been animating like an idiot :P
but ok ok here goes!
argh I want to participate this yr but sed I can't
hey will we get that Pyweek(AAAaaa) role?
I don't think that's for the participants
I'm pretty sure it's a staff role
ok
Can we use markdown in the diary?
You can use a subset of HTML. The editor is WYSIWYG
thanks 🙂 btw the headings seem to not work after saving...
might be a bug
FYI: If someone is using arcade 2.6 you should upgrade to 2.6.3 (released just now). It has some critical bug fixes.
The dates of this challenge are are 00:00 UTC Sept. 19, 2021 to 00:00 UTC Sept. 26, 2021.
ty
A small dev vlog
Hmm, mkv might not be the ideal video format
Does mp4 work better?
looks cool!
Woah awesome!
hah, that's super cool! What are you playing on (I mean like your controller)?
8bitdo N30 Pro 2
I have three of them
lol, multiplayer plays oorrr?
(I added joystick hotplugging support to PyGame so I could use them)
Wasabi2D cannot currently split the screen :(

I could try to add that feature in the next 3 days. I don't think it is super hard.
But the rest of my game isn't finished either. Need more enemies and buildings and power ups
I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but how about sockets?
Actually, that sounds really cumbersome lol, nvm
Writing netcode for my whole game would be much harder than implementing support for rendering multiple viewports onto the same scene
can i still join py week?
Yup!
ok
Only if it is published under an OSI-approved or Creative Commons license: https://pyweek.readthedocs.io/en/latest/rules.html#existing-artwork-music-and-sound-effects-may-be-used
I might be out in the backyard recording custom sounds here soon
😂
Iphone quality
It has started! There's still time to work on stuff and submit an entry though
nah I can't anymore 😭
I am late
I want each moment in the jam
I can't wast 4 days
well I think that I can join in the next one. its ok
I think that its like on may
PyWeek is twice a year~
We generally try to have it in March and September of each year although the exact dates shift based on timing and not having conflicts with other events
Ah OK
Challenge accepted from@random sinew ! Axium Day 5 devlog
Woah that's awesome, nice progress
That's amazing!
Nice transition 🙂
That actually looks fun af I'd love to play that
yea same
My game is coming together!
||Next steps: Caves (plan: multiple octaves of Simplex Noise, squared together), actual mutability, chunk loading, sprites||
Farther future: actual multiplayer, biomes (maybe)
axium probably gonna win this pyweek
Too early to say 😉
the proof is in the pudding etc..
Fun is also subjective and affects the score
I'm having a bit of an odd issue right now
has anyone had objects teleport after pymunk does a physics step?
specifically, teleporting to 0,0 after the physics step. Beforehand, they're in position somewhere in the world where they're confirmed to briefly exist
Solved: in arcade, setting the state of the object after it's added to pymunk isn't really supported well right now
Is arcade 2.6.3 too recent to be allowed under the current rules of pyweek? I just noticed that it released on the 21st
if you mean clause 6.2 A, then i dont think that applies to arcade 2.6.3 because it's publicly available to everyone
just finished sfx for my game, i think i'm finished :)
used my new and shiny guitar effects pedal to make 8 bit sfx 👀 for the first time
I'm trying to submit my entry but it says entity too large :(
are entries beyond a certain file size not allowed?
When will be the next pyweek happen?👀
They happen twice a year, we try to schedule them around September and March, but it can shift a bit
That's going to be a question for @woeful tree
aight
How big?
150 MB or so
what if i suck and just got here but want to participate
can i and when does this one end
It ends in about 24 hours
