Oooh, I remember this
What exactly is there to hate in space
It's just dark and empty and sad
Oh wait I get it now
sounds peaceful
I'm considering switching from pyenv to conda
But conda and pip don't seem to play well sometimes
want
i know right
I liked the previous two better, although these are cool too
MAn, it's hard navigating office politics
I never took a class on this
My mentor is getting edged out of meetings but wants me to include him, but other team members don't want to?
He goes off on tangents but you just need to know how to talk to the dude
The company president is asking me about my opinions of the senior members of the company and their contributions
I do NOT want to be answering questions like that
still didnt try pipx. have you used it?
@fluid plank Still do
Who puts the names to these chats
Cause that person is a genius
Downloading ram is the future
We have a large collection of names that gets added to all the time
Three get randomly chosen by the bot each day for the channel names
RNG is a genius then
long picachu

indeed, that's why we never see this emoji's legs

download more ram
(it costs some ram)
But it's worth it in the end
It's an investment
Like investments, sometimes you lose something
Like your computer to a virus
Also, congrats on being helper, Jack
Sometimes, my brain somewhat detects sarcasm
HELL YEAH lets download some RAM
xDDD
omg so much free ram
downloadram.net
Download more RAM for free and instantly from our website. Free upgrade 1GB RAM - 2GB RAM - 4GB RAM - 8GB RAM - 16GB RAM
ps. DON'T ACTUALLY DOWNLOAD IT
everyone download from here
fake!!! my viru- I MEANT RAM IS BETTER]

hmmmm ringtone very impressive π
XD the hell is happening here
@steel eagle hope you don't mind the ping. You use kubuntu right? Is there any way I can get super+number to map to taskbar applications?
it doesn't do that on default?
hold on
lemme check my settings
It works on already open windows, not stuff I pin to it
Which is annoying
I want super+1 to open file explorer, 2 for Firefox and 3 for terminal
I searched for "task" in the shortcuts search bar
I don't use kubuntu but I use KDE
I use OpenSUSE tumbleweed with KDE Plasma
I also don't use the plasma panels though
I use Latte-Dock for all my panels
Meta is super?
ctrl + alt + tab opens terminal btw
you can also make a custom shortcut
and make a command run when the shortcut is triggered
you can launch firefox that way without adding it as a task bar entry
file explorer is almost always universally super + e
in my experience
np
i have a plan: this month im going to change the internal logic of every clock in my home to have an uncapped month day to terrify my family when they see that its december 32nd, 2020
calm down, satan
what
No random meme please
That doesn't make it a personal spam space though
ok ill remove it
Someone care to explain this phrase to me
"Dead men tell no Tales"
if someone knows a secret you don't want known, kill them
π
uhm lakma?? what happened
i dont wanna get involved

do I just name my database file as <name>.db on github?
using MySQL btw
or <name>.sql
dont add it to your repo
unless it doesnt have any sensitive data but i prefer adding it to .gitignore
either way
I am just trying to put how I created the table
CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS test(
name VARCHAR(20)
);
```Something like this
You should add your SQL query in your repo with how you are supposed to run it, instead of the actual database
so like mycur.execute()
Yup
ah okay
You can make a startup script for instance
then I will prolly just add it in my main py file
i wanted to add my bot to github but it uses a hosted postgres
set your "secret" stuff in a .env file
did, but it wasnt working
i am using a .env for my token too, and it works
like i am getting circular import error if i try to import the vars from my main file to my cog, and it isnt working if i load them inside the cog itself
my file structure
and if i load the env variables directly in fun.py, it returns None
2 ideas:
- create an additional file that holds all neccesary imports.
- if possible, import only
if name == '__main__'- this will cause your main to import, but not trigger imports if the main is called by another file -> main.py imports a.py imports main.py -> as the inner main.py call is not yourmain, it will stop importing. Not sure if that works tho
When you tell Python to run a script at some directory foo, it treats foo as the starting point for all imports, in which you can import down e.g. import from package.bar.baz into main.py, but not from main.py into package.bar.baz
The best possible solution here is to make sure that your package doesn't depend on anything that's defined on main.py
hmm, if i create another file which is at the same level as main.py and import from there?
That won't work
You can place it inside the package
yeah, but then for some reason load_dotenv and then os.getenv is returning None in package but not in main.py
How are you running the package?
the package?
its a discord bot actually, and i am running from main.py
python main.py
oh wait nevermind it is working now
@mellow path try py -m pip install pyinstaller
you don't have the pypi scripts on path. try running <python directory>\Tools\scripts\win_add2path.py
π
IM SDORRY
i like this channels name
We need to raise the awareness that buying physical ram is just a scam as you can download ram for free from https://downloadmoreram.com
DownloadMoreRAM.com - CloudRAM 2.0
i prefer to just keep my ram in the clouds rather than downloading it
its slightly slower but you save on hdd space ya know?
yea exactly
on a less ironic note its pretty crazy how we can do that for hdds
like google file stream or rclone fuse
i wonder how long until ram can feasibly be done that way too
what even is ram!
ok so you know memory, like hard drives and shit
imagine that, but very zoom and not suitable to store files
because it loses state as soon as it loses power
:o
but it's also so zoom that you can use it for calculations
i cant tell if this guy is trolling or actually didnt know what ram is
no i actually didnot understand ram. i understood that it makes things faster just didnt know how it makes things faster
It has the zoomies at the cost of not being persistent, as soon as power goes out it resets
And also lots of other things that I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough about
so like every time you reboot your computer it takes forever to get the ram up and running but when its running its fast\
ram is volatile (meaning all the data stored in your ram is lost when you turn off your computer), as well as it being quite expensive per unit memory
Because of that it's not great for storing your files 'n stuff, because you'd lose it all when you turn off your computer, and having enough ram to store all your files would be expensive
However, it's hella fast, so it's great for storing stuff that your OS will be accessing a lot, e.g. active programs and OS stuff, they'd all be loaded into ram on boot
(or when you open a program or do stuff)
Whoops, wrong server
Wait
board game community?
Can't I just download more ram?
@jovial island dude, don't put the same thing in all 3 ots, it's against the rules
ok sry abt that
but can u answer
im not sure what the question is haha.
we are not a board game community and I do not know of any
rip, did you need to wait for the whole 10 minute mute?
yes
That sucks, sorry. I only just saw the modmail for it π’
it's k
at least it was only 10 minutes, I've been muted for 2 weeks before on a developer's discord just because a moderator disagreed with my opinion about something.
I think it was meant to be like a 24 hr mute, 2 weeks later I DM'd the moderator to ask if it was permanent
he just said "Be patient" and immediately unmuted me
SO I think he just forgot
which is, doubly shameful.
lol..
"I'm going to mute you for daring to disagree with me, and then forget about it"
It's a bit irresponsible I guess
On the "different opinions for different people" perspective at least
wait thats illegal
!ban @odd sphinx Not according to my opinions
bruh
I realised I'm probably kind of shooting myself in the foot trying to learn vim/Emacs when I'm perfectly comfortable and fast in vscode
!ban @somber belfry False banning
it really looks sick
Cool
github universe!!!
I agree, if you have no use for it, vs code will always be better
Only reason I went out of my way for vim and now emacs cause vim sucks is because I do a lot of work on headless servers
Now, vsc technically works remote as well
But it's much more steps to set that up
Vs typing emacs in the ssh
but me is in intel pentium so i am sad
but what if i have other programs open such as firefox?
plus i know i will end up using vscode extensions anyway
which hogs more ram
I mean, works fine? Side from Firefox being impossibly slow for me on any system
I have 60+ extensions lol...
π
It doesn't use THAT much ram
But anyway, if you have issues
Use sublime maybe
Might be lighter weight
i think it is because i thought electron is a memory hog
Something like Emacs should be a last resort
Yes people like to say that. It used to be
It's not really anymore
Discord uses like 300MB
I wouldn't call that a hog
okay gotta install code
i mean
pycharm runs fine on intel pentium
i tried it yesterday
I like the fact that each discord process ask the OS for 19.1Gb of memory haha
wtf
Explain thyself. My system does not have that much ram
Processes ask for a certain amount of RAM when they start
Usually both an upper and lower bound
apparently discord specifically asks for 19.1GB at the upper bound
but after those 10 seconds i am back to 105 though
i wish i could keep up that speed
is that how wpm is calculated?
i have no clue
A word is defined as 4 symbols iirc
so however many chars you can type out (preferably correctly) in a minute is technically your WPM
wpm = chars / (4 * minutes) essentially
Ah, it's 5 keystrokes actually
oh
including spaces and puctuation
nbac is this a word?
nbacd would be a word
even though it doesn't make sense?
In the context of WPM it is
hehe
ok
in the context of programming, it would be a dword + byte :)
Is there a term for that actually?
i mean if you apply checks if it is a word, or if you make it like typing speed app then you will check if it is the same as your typed word
They're usually split into two different metrics
Speed and accuracy
Though backspacing counts as removing characters IIRC
so you are telling me if I take a wpm test it will have 4 letters + words?
so it would affect speed
If you take a wpm test your speed will be measured as length of text in characters over (five times the amount of minutes it took to type that)
Depending on the actual speedtest, you might not be able to proceed to the next word unless your previous one was correct, for example
or other measures like that
Command: eval
Run Python code and get the results.
aaaah, performance review in 90 minutes where I get to try to justify a promotion
gl
gl let us know how it goes
Yo, does anybody know any good book for algorithms and data structures?
Cormen
Honestly that book is never bad
(if you can get through it)
Tardos Kleinberg is good too
Although best book is the internet
eeeey I got my promotion
wow!
did you pull out the I'm-a-staff-at-pydis card?
that causes them to cut pay since you spent time at work here ;c
haha, nah. I keep my work life and any aspect of my personal fairly separate
oh,alright.
Congrats on the promotion though π
Congrats!!!!!!!!
Hey, same
hi
Did you really have to say hi in every channel
yep
Just got banned from Discord for "hacking" lol
I'm only on game channels, python and javascript
I guess coding counts as a hack
why off topic 0 is dead?
it's something to do with human's physiology, we tend to click the third channel more
lol really?
yeah
hmmm i just think the cooldown is why people dont talk there lul
dont π₯΄
lol imagine making a spammer in python and spam here and tell the mods that I'm testing my project
XD
itβs called self bottling and itβs against discord tos
no, its using pyautogui which is just spam..
Using PyAutoGui is still against discord tos if used to automate your account
OHH THAT NAME MAKES SENSE
wait do pydis staff get paid?
i thought it was a volunteer position but this makes me think otherwise by the words "work life"
its their rl job..
iβm pretty sure she meant that this is her personal life and her work is her work
I got a promotion at my job, but I don't talk about things I do for the non-profit I'm involved in or other things I do for fun like this server at my job
this man is my hero.
oh sorry for posting a random photo i just needed to share it with yall
@wheat aurora yo I might not know you but congrats on the promotion
My laptop just crashed
cool, that happens to me 10 times a day
i grow my code by planting them
as long as it is just code
@simple cairn helo, i can show pics here
don't u have that app/icon
when u search idle ?
ya @pallid violet let me show u how it looks like
only a command propt
ignore the wallpaper
i mean, the wall paper looked iconic, ngl
then what to do?
JagTheFiend
umm @pallid violet can i dm u if u dont mind?
alr
can I too?
Houston... we have a problem
u already posted dat
can it stilld rive?
i hope this is a graphical error and it still can move around lmfao
nope, it spawned that way while walking around
it eventually fell over
and the driver got out swearing at me like it was my fault lmao
;c
I got less marks in chemistry exam :*(
^ less discord, more study
@spiral walrus
does anyone where i should buy rotating proxies for webscraping?
5. Do not provide or request help on projects that may break laws, breach terms of services, be considered malicious or inappropriate. Do not help with ongoing exams. Do not provide or request solutions for graded assignments, although general guidance is okay.
why i'm breaking tos?
We wonβt help you with rotating proxies, yeah
This is usually because they are used to bypass restrictions
??
hi
hi
hi
hi
hi
your are supposed to say "hi"
:>
Akarys nice π―
I already said you hi!
you don't say hi twice to same person duh
idk i do
I don't see it
hi arnav
whoa maks with the facts
Hello!
He said 'hi' in a staff channel
Epik
that's why you couldn't see it
Pretty sure I already said hi somewhere public today
But Iβm not gonna support chains, no, haha
OoooOooOo, then on the third day of Chaunaka, your first cousin's third cousin will stub their toe!
What is Chaunaka
the holiday of toe stubbing
what
what
what
what
Are we really back at this
your are supposed to say "what"
vinam why
As I said, please no chain post
It isn't because I'm often hanging out in general that I'm less of a mod
I hope I won't have to repeat no chain posting
lmao
worst joke ive ever heard in my entire coding life
?
akarys is def a mod
man i really want to just do a ? chain tho on this guys comment
dammit akarys π€£
how do you all grow your code?
I do it by placing a compiler into a hard drive and adding oil to it every few days to let it grow
once in a while i plug it in to see if the code has grown enough to push to production
(Context: Channel name was "ot2-5-weird-ways-to-grow-your-code" at the time.)
not changing for another 4 hours and 9 minutes
i give it food ,nutrition ,oil and if statements
@honest sail oh you're growing yourself an AI?
That's nice
I'm just growing a common web app
nah nah
im still not at AI
@atomic lodge
oh yeah becuz i said if statements
well
seriously for an AI you'll have to work harder
just replacing the if stats with a script that 'learns'
and teach him the good and bad
ah yes
learn(); //makes the ai magically learn
oh yes
I used learn();
Now my AI has figured out how to make an efficient quantum computer. Also did you know your computer can actually fly if they use their fan enough.
P.S:thanks for the help :)
Spot on
!otn add akarys-is-def-mod
async-def-off-topic
!otn a akarys-is-my-mod
:ok_hand: Added akarys-is-my-mod to the names list.
what do you mean by supporting chains that is naughty without context
whoooo, vscode sticker is on its way
wait, we are choosing who will be our mod? If so, I choose u fisher
fisher is one of my fav mods
what is vsc sticker?
oh
3 more projects to go for Responsive web design FCC cert.
Do you know about freeCodeCamp?
if you know HTML/CSS they rly easy.
I already did tribute page yesterday and survey-form today.
Tho last 3 looks a bit harder.
lol. Just keep going from Responsive web to data structs
I'm just seeing how far I can go.
tbh certs' useful on the Linkedin only. Tho they have fun projects.
same. i am planning to redo things until i master it
i see
I'm getting a degree in CS anyways
I'll learn a lot of stuffs on freeCodeCamp than I will with CS
Before transfer to uni at least
Have you taken Assembly programming?
Degree in CS sounds fun
Associate in CS soon. Too bad, I can't take these 2 last courses over summer before transfer.
I thought about staying here for Fall 2021, but probably not worth it.
I see. I'm taking that this Spring.
Whoa. I can't understand it yet. I hope we don't have to write it on paper.
I'm not even in class. So Idk what i'm saying lol
That's more harder than what I have taken. Are you working on Bachelors in CS?
Ya. It's not Associates rly. Just that I'm in community college. I'm not in university yet.
Community college?
It's like local college near me. I don't have to move far away to go to school.
Community college don't have dorm. Just drive there in 15 mins or so and back home everyday.
It's where people go if they want to save money, focus on Associates only, or prepping to transfer to Uni.
I think we have similar options as trade school.
plus classes that are useless.
In my case. Just transfer to Uni with the units from college. I believe we have certs in programming. Useful certs here are like truck driving, welding, AC repair, etc.
Associates, AS-T, and Certs in Computing has different requirements so certs are not worth for me.
Ya we have apprenticeships too. Though certs are just passing some tests with knowledge you have.
Hmm... US is different from UK for apprenticeships.
Do you have any apprenticeships for CS?
Unpaid right?
Is it hard to get?
Yeah CS is competitive
Tbh it sounds like internships in US.
If it's like students applying to 50+ roles.
By that, I meant it's harder to land an internship here.
I have already applied to 30+ roles, but it might because I'm a community college student lol.
No callbacks, some E-mail of rejections. No big deal.
Ya I just applied to roles at a lab I like. We visited that lab a few years ago. There are cool people.
Same. I like web devs, but idk about software dev, congintive dev, etc.
Probably lack of materials/resources. After all, I'm just a community student.
me envious
Tbh if I was back in my home country. I'd pick a different major.
i am getting a degree in microbiology xD
smth like that lol
what home country?
Pakistan
where are you now?
Ofc lol. Thats why I'm doing a lot of projects. Learning on my own.
west coast best coast
what projects are u making right now?
oh cali
ah simple one. I'm doing web dev. I just finished making a survey form lol
I wanted to refresh my HTML/CSS knowledge and get cert in a few days.
can u share an example project and what it is about?
Sure. It's on my codepen.
codepen hmm i guess thats like replit
@celest field wait i just realized you are fel
looks great
ty
I did freecodecamp projects years ago too. I did random quote machine, twitch.tv status page, etc. I'm starting over.
i am still a newbie i might start out simple projects as well while reading graphQL and graphene this xmas
plus bioinformatics modules for python and rust
nice share me what youve learned on the way bro
https://biopython.org <- this right?
been looking at this for a long time haha
My math final is only worth 15 points. Interesting.
him emw ith that 2+2=yeet
out of 15!
Hmm. I think I can manage to complete Responsive Web Design projects on freecodecamp within hours.
Working on Product Landing Page now
for front-end?
Yeah. They are easy once you try them and do simple projects.
html and css?
Oh yeah. I thought you said hackerrank
Hm. I was trying out React, but I think I jumped the gun. I managed to learn react-router and rendering a few components anyways.
I should be learning React on freeCodeCamp, but I feel weird doing that by skipping a few sectoins.
Yeah it's fun. It's much easier than plain JS.
When I couldn't figure out how to link 2 components together on 1 page. That's when I need to learn basic first.
Hmm. You are learning Java/C?
Oh that's cool. Tho I prefer C++
oh Rust is syntactically similar to C++. Didn't know that.
Scala is a practical language considering that it runs on the JVM and can interop with Java libraries
Same as Kotlin really, just more FP-flavoured
I wonder, what do you call building a program with GUI toolkit like PyQt or Qt? GUI programming?
That sounds better.
what is UI/UX?
It's like front-end
So you will try freeCodeCamp?
yeah. after i finish this coursera course on front end web dev basics
i need to rinse and repeat until my doubts are gone
I see you had some experience. Then I'd skip some challenges. Like basic HTML/CSS and Applied Access
Yep. That's what I'm doing.
And skip CSS flexbox/grig. I don't know what they are anyway. Projects are just a bunch of elements with required id/classes attributes. Work on css styles.
I finally found my ring. I thought I lost it before I found it under my keyboard.
if you lost it, what will happen?
Well I have like 6 more
Just different colors. I really like black one.
If I lost it. I'd have more attention to myself due to different colors.
Still a work in progress. https://codepen.io/srobotics/full/rNMWzbe
Dang. Transparent images look so good with black background.
Very responsive too
Just plain HTML/CSS.
codepen.io w/ django would be awesome
ik
Maybe I should add disclaimer
some js is used tho
Ya that's for passing tests on freeCodeCamp
If you wanna build front-end with django or react. You still have to use HTML/CSS.
ik html but not css
With django you can add interactive stuff
css is rly useful
css is a must when making websites
hmm ok
haha
css is really easy
sometimes it's hard. But you will know what to do when you get stuck.
Ik what to do in every situation
Try making the screen smaller.
I've used css for 2 years now and it's been really easy to make some stunning designs
yeah it fits perfectly for any window size
yep
When you build webpages. You gotta make sure it's responsive on mobile screens too.
only hard part of css was when I started using svg animations
@media (max-width: 720px){
.menu-box img {
width: 15em;
height: auto;
}
}
@media (max-width: 400px){
.menu-box img {
width: 5em;
height: auto;
}
}
I think my html/css knowledge will stop here like this. Who knows
it
I only have 2 projects left to complete Responsive Web Design cert.
Next is Build a Technical Documentation Page. That gonna sucks
Responsive designs are easier to make when you start with phone versions and work your way out to 4k
Hmm. I'm like, use percents instead of px/em/rem/etc. and I'm done.
I love percents lol
sometimes, but sometimes you can't use percents
Yeah
px/em is fine as long you don't apply them to right/left. margin or padding, whatever.
when I started out I used a lot of float until I found out there's better ways
what is it? I'm using float lol
it makes the element float left or right. I've struggled with it a lot because it makes the element independed and it makes it float over other elements
yeah. I had to use margin for that
I think of float as a "old way" to manipulate the position, but it sometimes is the best way, but most of the time you can just use position absolute
I still need to understand more about position
w3school has a great doc on that
ya I will read on them
I need to be done with this stupid tests.
making navbar fixed top. Yet it doesn't pass.
but css is the type of language which you need to actaully put in the hours to become really good
like most of the languages
have you learned them with freeCodeCamp?
Now I make professional websites for businesses and other
No
I used w3schools and stackoverflow
oh that's cool. I'm just refreshing so I can be prepped to build websites/niches.
Same. Tho I started with freeCodeCamp
LOTS and lots of stackoverflow hehe
also youtube to keep myself updated with new css things
lol
test said I needed to use display: flex; somewhere in css. I tried it out in body and see what happens.
Yeah it's part of flexbox
ya looks cool
spreads out elements evenly
it's rly useful
i've never used it enough to learn to use it properly
so i use bulma instead
which is built on flexbox.... i think
yeah I think so
This test is annoying. 1. The navbar should always be at the top of the viewport., position: fixed; doesn't work.
is the bulma the is-one-fifth ect?
yeah
Finally.
I was just checking out other web navbars. Raspberry pi site navbar changed to drop menu when screen get smaller. That's smart.
interesting
you missed #ot1-this-regex-is-impossible
,
on that topic, can you not put irrelevant things in the off topic channels?
ok
you might wanna read this https://pythondiscord.com/pages/resources/guides/off-topic-etiquette/
We're a large, friendly community focused around the Python programming language. Our community is open to those who wish to learn the language, as well as those looking to help others.
@jovial island you've been warned once about that language :/
nah nah, they posted that before they got warned
yeah, fair enough
That's like "Turns out you can use Linux on Windows, life is so much better on windows"
i stg the lastest win update bricked my laptop
if r6 was runnable on linux i'd never look back at the ||garbage|| os
weird
i bet ~95 of the other laptops that are the exact make and model are working the same
gotta suck
wooow that's uh... okay then
i've had to deal with the guy before and oh my gosh
he's a manager at a fully windows domained work place
buys a mac without mentioning it to anyone then goes on a tirade about how the windows network is bad because his mac wont work on it properly
like... the fuck dude. out of scope.
they're very nicely made pieces of hardware and they work excellently inside their walled garden.
That's so accurate
yeah, macs are nice if you stay within the ecosystem but god damn if you try to incorporate stuff outside of it
this is AMAZINGLY put together
damn that airflow tho
it's actually pretty good.
they seriously put effort into their designs and it shows
^
the hardware is probably the most special part of a mac
But I also dislike how anti-repair they are
no, i don't mean aesthetics, i mean actual build design and quality
you could put the same thing in a pizza box and it's true
it's just greasier
right to repair is a big issue i have with nearly all modern hardware tbh kat
from what I've heard, the airflow/heat control is dismal
in the newer lines the higher power laptops have trouble moving air under load, yes
(excluding the M1)
not as awful as some of the cheap shit iv'e seen before
where they just pointed a fan over a flat copper plate
The design really makes me think of that
lol higher power and trouble moving air shouldn't be in the same sentence
haha
i mean yeah, they should be when you're designing a sleek device and not a workstation
putting i9's into mac books was probably a mistake, but they managed to control it with a firmware update iirc
if you have a mac based workload you want to run at high load over time then you don't buy a mac book
you buy one of them cheese graters
idk other than some of the software, I can't see a reason to get one
maybe if I've got a grand to spare..
oh i wouldn't buy one either
hate the OS and how much they control freak stuff
you know part of the reason for the design of the pentalobe screw that is patented to apple is that it's more likely to slip and damage the screw head?
meaning it's harder to repair if you fuck up just once
there's where your friendly roughly size square bit, a plastic bic pen and a lighter come in hand
wow that's ridiculous, who are they marketing these to?
the pentalobes screws?
varies from high end professional media people all the way down to sarah listening to my chemical romance and filling her name with xXxXxXxXx's
oh no i showed my age
xXSarah_S**cideXx
I could never find a good one of those for my name
``'-.,_ was the standard
i wasn't a nerd like you lot
so i was just <nickname>5000
all the good shit had 5000 on the end in the past
except it was 5463
no that's my pin number
quick hack into the mainframe
BWAHAHA my boyfriend's python code was correct while his excel code was not. I am turning him intro a programmer
Hahaha niiiice
a 2008 study suggested that 88% of all spreadsheets create or in-use had errors.
it's a bit more specific than that, but yes.
gotta love cell limits
the government contracted the track and trace job to an accountancy firm who then sought out logistics companies to move the tests around and laboratory companies to do the tests and give the results.
Wasn't there a story about an hospital that didn't reported cases because they ran out of columns?
turns out that small to medium size labs that usually handle pissy amounts of data aren't really handled to cope with a nation of ~70m people
and that maybe, just maybe, the whole track and trace system should've been built by and run one of the largest national health services in the world
who sort of have a bit of experience at this stuff rather than say
tax fraud
macbook air lol
oops sorry
well... those costs are confusing too
because we made two apps you see
one we spent Β£35m on that didn't work and broke the data protection laws
and another we spent Β£10m on and got help from the germans
this is what happens when a government doesn't have the people or who have too much arrogance to ask the right people what the fuck they should do
and instead flog it all off to their mates because dave ran a pub for a while i think he'd do fine producing medical grade test vials.
that's a real one btw. pub owner down the road from the Health Secretary directly texted him saying he could do something with his plastic food tub catering company
his proposal was viewed in the normal path and it was not deemed suitable because it's not a clean environment
well he ended up on the fast track
and while the viles aren't """medically sterile""" they are produced in """much more contaminant free environments than usual"""
government is full of morons and it just shows month on month with ever more fine clarity
it's like the time Chris Grayling gave a Β£50m contract to a company to run ferries between England and France
fucking company didn't have any boats.
they'd never even BEEN in the ferrying business before
i think that's 2018
it's on a great website dedicated to the largest failure on UK political history in terms of individual value cost to the tax payer
... how
UK politics is less like a job where you might get employed for having skills
it's more like you all went to the same school together and now all work in the same company
so sit there and cover each others arses regardless of how much of a fuck up you are.
when you start to look at the class and upbringing differences between members of parliament (on both sides) and government
they overwhelming come from the same two unis
Cambridge
they also probably went to Eton together when they were younger too
i don't want to slander all MP's with this bit, but i'd say a decent chunk of them haven't really ever had a proper job.
they've just managed to get wedge into some position by daddy or whatever
fail their way through that while being super chummy to the political people
boom, they drop you in a safe seat and now you're an MP
it really doesn't help that places like Eton, Oxford and Cambridge actually kind of "drill in" to the students that they're the people who might be running the country.
since, you know, that's been historically true for over a century
it is kind of mad and maddening. so maddening at some points i feel like i've been dropped in madden 2020 and tackled by a 300lb line backer.
yeah, they used emergency powers to bypass normal procedures which meant a lot of the money went to Tory party donors or people favourable with the party / individuals in the party.
it's straight up state wealth extract through cronyism
i think the weirdest PPE contract i saw was awarded for about Β£20m in masks from a company that'd only registered 2 weeks ago and had a value of Β£150
yes.
also when every other major event was going into lock down except a horse racing event that hosted +250k people and caused a super spreading event
which was run by uhh.... oh a company who donates to an MP in charge of horse racing and shit
and look, another minister has relations to that horse racing organisation
it's really not hard to find any of the connections between these people or corps at all
but "everyone's corrupt and here's how it's linked" is a potentially libellous story if you're wrong
which would be very expensive in UK court
need some rock solid shit to get that published
so all they can publish is speculation and "oh isn't that a bit odd"
which the public just reads in that tone of voice.
well accommodation can be an additional
9k is just tutoring fee
and also the reason i didn't go to uni
bastards pulled the free uni ladder up just before my time
i'm in my early 30's mate, so i'm talking a good decade ago
but i'm sure it'll work out
and remember, you can always stop if you're not feeling it and go back
that's not impossible
yeah, when i was 18-19 the thought of Β£27k of debt in fees alone just really
oof
would've maybe left with ~Β£35k or so
even though it's not a "true" debt like a bank loan
it's still money and having been a person who managed way into their 20's before ever being in debt
the idea of taking it as debt just feels icky
hi
yeah, plus back then the financial crash had just happened
so the job market was the wild west
what about like.... idk sounds dorky... but having like a pre-time short zoom session or w/e
with a few people?
*pre-timed
are there like, subject email groups or something?
1st_physics@blah.edu or w/e
does canvas have an api?
I need to figure out how to schedule a calendar for assignments but I can't find anything
I don't think they do, but you should be able to something similar using Pillow
there open source
That's not the canvas I was thinking about haha
I don't even understand what it even is
@thorn dragon University in the UK doesn't have debt that's like any other household debt. You don't lose it with bankruptcy, and the payments are graduated with income - so in essence it's a tax that's applied for 30 years. On average, people end up far better off from going to university even after the student loan payments have been applied, and I think the majority never pay athe debt off. It helps if you look at it as a graduate tax, then it itsn't near as bad
The experience still sucks, and you should have been advised not to go this year. But don't let it put you off university as a whole, there's some dodgy aspects to the system but most people find it has a positive impact on their life
Student loans are the worst, I wish I knew at age 18 what I know now at 31
Iβm in the US so itβs prob a lot different, but I definitely should have gone to community college first. Iβd be debt free and own a house by now (well, iβd have a mortgage then, which is a type of debt)
Iβll have paid back > $100,000 when considering interest after all is said and done in a couple years
6 figure non-housing debt is not ideal when you donβt have a doctorβs salary
6 figure non-housing debt is not ideal when you donβt have a doctorβs salary
That sucks.
It does, but Iβve been very aggressively living within my means for the past 7 years and have paid the majority of it off.
The interest rates are mainly what I donβt like, but I understand why rates are high on those types of loans
Billions of dollars get funneled into higher education for some people who never finish or do not get their desired level of income based on their degree and canβt afford payments
Yeah
I have seen some with 400k+ debt for a Tuba degree.
another 1 million debt for dentist school.
Still. I don't get how students continue to go to school and borrowing money of at least 100k or so. Haven't they thought at one time to stop and go to trade school or something?
Does anyone who works from home ever give yourself the day off and jsut make it up on the weekend?
I imagine a lot of people.
If I could, I would
MY boss has explicitly told me multiple times that he doesn't care when or how long I work, as long as projects are getting done on time
It still feels weird though
used to the office 9-5
So @storm birch remember like 3 weeks ago or so when I cracked my screen protector. Its covered by the mobile insurance. They still havent replaced it yet. And just now sent one by mail, which I was told a week ago it was sent out. So pissed right now
Now that's something I didn't know
Also fairly interesting to see a Ruby project in the wild
that is nice that was covered by the insurance though!
when I shattered my phone, I was SOL
fuck cant solve it
@slender halo moving onto here
it shld be href= not =href
why is the best server for a canadian on the west coast in italy?
how does that make a shred of sense
lol
it's super weird tho, I've ran it 4 times
twice has been in italy, 1 in ny and 1 in canada
like is it depending on the traffic the mirror is receiving?
definitely
They are not gonna check only the relative distance
wait a minute
there's no way Canada is slower than Italy π
π€¦ββοΈ
I beg to differ π
smh, move to Italy, loser
maybe I will..
well now it's in la
wtf
is no one using ubuntu in la?
(and wtf is italy doing)
on a side note, gitkraken is sick
hey so when i go into codewars the first thing i get is
Try to find out why this code does not work
def multiply(a, b):
a * b
now what and how am i supposed to give the answer
missing semicolon
huh?
Also, codewars want return instead of print()
so i was just suppose to put return there
oh i thought i was supposed to give an explanation
Yeah. I tried print() and was really confused
ok
no
I see
why would i do that lol
