My dad had typed Qwerty for a long time and then taught himself Dvorak because typing was hurting some part of his hand/wrist or something, and Dvorak is more efficient.

It is an effort to teach yourself a keyboard layout. 😂

I think the only good reason to switch is if Qwerty is uncomfortable like it was for my dad. You won't necessarily get much faster with Dvorak.

For rice, most people will boil water in a pot on the stove

I will say that boiling water in an electric kettle and dumping it into a pot already at boiling really speeds up the process for boiling rice or pasta or whatever
