Dude, treating cancer is free with universal healthcare. As I said, as long as it's accepted treatment and not experimental, it's covered
they're talking about them not wanting immigrants to have expensive conditions, not that citizens won't be covered
yes
This sounds like propaganda
@woeful phoenix
a tax paying immigrant citizen is what I took them to mean
because their comments about "why they wouldnt let me move"
but I'll let CLI clarify for themselves ig
speaking of immigrants, why is it everywhere online i see racist sentiments that boil down to "get these blacks and indians out the country"
why do people in this godforsaken country hate migrants so much
this is just what other people say with the same disease as me:
He might not be permitted to move due to the illness. Many countries set a cap on how much money you can cost their Healthcare system each year and still be permitted to immigrate. You'll need to get ahold of an attorney to be sure.
i swear there was an entire riot against muslims because of a guy who killed 3 kids and was alleged to be muslim (he was not)
and to be clear i have an uncurable disease not a cold
There's a lot of right wing propaganda blaming immigrants for all economic problems
i will look
does it have any merit? whats their jurisdiction?
No, it doesn't. It's to distract people from the actual cause, wealth inequality
That may be the case, but that doesn't mean universal health care won't cover you when you're already a citizen
im saying to become a citizen in some countries is hard because of how much i cost per month
if i become a citizen its fine but getting to that point is the hard part
Rwandan guy?
Rwanda is like 90% christian
im trying to find actual stats right now I just see people saying that lots of countries have monthly / yearly caps and if you exceed that you might not be able to live there
I think it varies significantly between countries
Dang just meds?
yup
Posh tastes
racists think melanin means Muslim
yes
my condolences.
Huh youre american and its not expensive there?
shockingly we do have programs
Generally people run away from the US for medical stuff
the daily reddit post isnt a great source for US healthcare
like
its dogshit and i hate it here
but
its really insurance
Is that with private health insurance tho or is it a gov thing
well i have some from my employer and then some copay which is done through the company which sells the medicine
it goes from 8k to about 4k then under $100 (usually 0) after insurance / the copay hits
i think the most ive ever had to pay was $20
although i did have a situation where 2 insurance companies were having a pissing contest trying to avoid paying so i didnt get medicine for 3 weeks
that pissed me off
oh but a major W of being disabled is i get lifetime free passes to all national parks in the US
and i get to make jokes about being disabled like
its so fun
Do you need to be a citizen
im in the US
Yea but like if i visit
Cli is correct, as immigrant you (and your family) don't pay the same amount before you access the costly healthcare. Immigraring when you already know you need costly treatment is different than immigrating, working, and then getting a sudden costly illness... Basically cli wouldn't get a work visa in the first place.
EU is quite different, we got used to free movement in the EU and shared healthcare...
yes thank you
i for the life of me cant find the right keywords to google what i need
Its not free if i pay taxes
i genuinely do love the US, or at least what it aspires to be, but the governments in power have all kind of sucked for a while, and that sours it.
its like, shit all the time and with trump its worse shit
its not as bad as reddit acts though
those people have no grip on reality
Dang i pay 3.4k a year towards healthcare this shit better be free for me
I don't really think there's too many other countries that I could move to and genuinely feel like I'm just as much a member of that state as someone who has been there for generations.
I also feel like more people are just uneducated as opposed to inherently hateful
whats worse is being told they are "keeping you sick to make profit" (when in reality im costing everyone here money for research and medicine)
like shut the fuck up and use your brain
also why would you tell me that ๐
actually i had an ex-nurse tell me i should do a "gut cleanse" and it might help
jfc
mfw kidneys:
whats crazy is both sides look at eachother in the same way
but for some reason most people cant realize it
mfw I hate both sides
on god
I think there's definitely certain issues that will stop me from developing a relationship with someone.
absolutely i wouldnt want to date or marry someone who is on the opposite side of the compass that just sounds terrible
bbbbbbut reddit told me they were
Reddits always correct amiright
what side of the compass are you
i avoid labeling myself (because thats how you go politically dumb) but bottom left ish
(shocking)
although its been a while
wild
the US also doesn't really have a proper leftist party
(or well, at least one that's actually viable)
the US doesnt have a proper political anything
I think the last time I did the goofy test I got somewhere around -5.05, -0.31
no can do
fuck
I gotta be there
i can see taking an opposite stance on matters where there isn't a clear answer ("is X race overcompensated for", idk i'm bad at controversy)
but for something as braindead as like, flat earth or some shit, i'd just change partners
yeah real
Oml flat earthers are crazy
do they even exist anymore
hahahahahahah
but think about the savings!
Elon did such great work
/s
elon outta der
bros boutta get deported for overstaying his visa 30 yrs ago
๐
fair enough
yes.
sometimes you just wanna watch the world burn am i right
they have their forums and stuff
I guess it's impossible to tell who's actually serious and who's just getting a kick out of it, but they have communities
Just lookup "the final experiment" on YouTube
You'll get a collection of flat earthers screeching and "globe earthers" explaining how the world is in fact not flat
some do, some ignore scientists
They did?
i mean people ignore anyone with expertise in a field its hilarious
yeah that's why I don't ignore you in #cybersecurity
ok
lmaoo
ban
Some people did change their mind yes.
and then the rest of the flat earth community called them traitors
That was a good one
god i cant wait till 4:10
Fun
I'll have to start asking for royalties with the way you're using the GIFs I do @green pelican
do not
being an elder and all
elder ๐ฟ
bros probably pushing 25 at this point
and that is a good thing.
the bad thing was that it did actually take them seeing it with their own eyes instead of listening to the rest of the majority of the world
how old are you again?
that would be Shen afaik
But you can drink it with rem?
20?
hell yeah
๐
Tuff
nah jk im 15
Aint no way
mhm
bro is lying
that's it buddy
you know literally all my gifs are from fish
I'm sending you an invoice
proper scientists dont start out with "I think established science is wrong and everyone is lying on purpose", they start out with "I think everyone else might be wrong, let me do some experiments to try and check"
keyword scientists
if flat earthers engaged genuinely with scientific scholarship or the real world there wouldn't be any flat earthers
they do engage genuinely, just not considerately
you can question the roundness of the earth but to believe its fla you have to outright refuse any prior evidence which is in fact not scientific or beneficial in almost every circumstance
yep, flat earthers skip the checking their hypothesis step and jump straight to global conspiracy
and in the case of flat earth its not a "oh im crazy but i proved them wrong" its "oh im crazy and refuse to believe anything"
im all for challenging common beliefs but there is a point where it is blatantly irresponible
and what has flat earth contributed to?
^^
Memes
Mm
and i feel like this is not clear, we are not saying "dont challenge anything" we are saying "use your brain before challenging anything"
no i believe there is a process that should be followed
there's plenty of flat earthers that are scientists, as insane as that sounds
Mainstream science is closer to never having been correct
Flat earthers think that establishes science is lying, not that its wrong. The majority lf them arent following any scientific structure
i'd call that an oxymoron
science is not about being wrong or correct.
If something is not complete or misunderstood, then it gets improved
based.
we arent saying dont be sceptical, we are saying actually do the research before jumping to a global conspiracy
mainstream science doesn't claim to be correct about everything
The scientific process, often referred to as the scientific method, is a systematic approach used to investigate questions and acquire knowledge through observation, experimentation, and analysis. It typically involves defining a question, forming a hypothesis, conducting experiments, gathering data, and drawing conclusions based on the results.
the "scientific process" lmao
Based
my favorite conspiracy theory is big foot
why is the government interested in covering up the existence of a large ape
its.... literally the definition
we are trying bro
you asked a question and i answered thats all i did
trust me im the most unhinged "question everything" ahh MF around just look at my rants in this server
ask krrt
what? its literally the process followed by reputable scientists worldwide
are you a flat earther?
DOUBLE AGENT
isn't that the other K guy?
flat earthers famously don't change their mind in the face of overwhelming evidence
like thats probably their main trait
flat earthers dont even follow your own model
attacking a hypothesis means you try to prove it wrong with experiments.
not by calling the inventor a liar
Oh that term is outdated
We just call them Trump supporters these days
oh good
Type shit
that was needed
i sure hope every damn thing they put out in science journals are carefully produced and peer reviewed, god knows what'll happen to humanity if they aren't
I would not give flat earthers praise for their contributions to science.
god I do hate when I get Cello scrotum
other than being wrong and being proved wrong what have flat earthers contributed to science?
i freak out when i read a lot of things that humans do, so
the point of the movement is not to do science, it's to have a community built around a sense of superiority.
What if they also happen to be Scientologists?
Ok
everyone would agree but they wouldnt exist if they did that in mass
That wasnt the take i was arguing against
yes, that is not, however, who flat earthers are.
they refuse to believe it
thats what everyone is trying to say
nobody is shitting one someone for changing a POV given evidence
The evidence is a hundred years older than they are
because the evidence is overwhelming, present in every year of your schooling, and very trivially verifiable now that we have instant global communication.
_it's BEEN here
_
literally look out on the ocean its that easy to prove
-# for reference https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cello_scrotum
I used to think flat earthers are super genius because they could come up with alternative theories to very well established science and then I actually saw their theories lol
ok but i present to you "the government is controlling the schools"
sure but they dont make an active effort then because it is trivially easy to prove
you could maybe be a flat earther for a month before doing basic research or looking outside
lol now I'm imaging a anti-flatearther cruise ship just going in a circle around the equator to prove it
but the vast majority don't. which is their entire reputation
okay lets put it like this.
theres a LOT of science I havent verified personally, doesnt mean I go out calling all of it wrong
they have an answer for evidence and it's "there was a manipulating being controlling the masses"
i feel like that has happened
probably has
also, half the reputation of flat earthers is that
- they're very confident in their position in absence of evidence
- they ignore the result of their experiments.
Chat what exactly are we arguing over?
but the vast majority don't. which is their entire reputation
idk
I dont know anymore
it's how it's
a strawman
Where would you find those people? It very much feels like you made up a guy in substitution of the reality of flat earth enthusiasts.
what you're describing is just totally divorced from what flat earthers are actually like (or what any flat earther could be like and still have 'flat earther' be a cohesive concept)
so has anyone here personally verified the theory of relativity or are we all just sheep?
Like from The Wizard of OZ?
i guess thats a theory though
a game theory
you really can't, they generally filter themselves out by middle school.
but sure, changing your mind upon being presented evidence is admirable
that's like, 5 of them out of thousands
i am a scientist because i tested gravity, found that it exists, and successfully reproduced the same results elsewhere
it is a bit silly to highlight flat earthers as a category of people who do this
Wowie
The white house is actually red and everyone else is lying to cover it up as a global conspiracy, but if somebody is willing to fly me to the US I might change my mind
their entire movement existing hinges on them not doing this, after all.
but that's not a flat earther, that's someone who doesn't really know if earth is flat or not
flat earther agnostic
and well, being confident that the earth is flat and doing an experiment to verify that does also fail the scientific process as per the usual definition.
"not to get political but"
shen enters

You should not be making confident statements in absence of evidence in science.
beating a dead horse
The white house SHOULD be red and blue and all kinds of colours
Its architecture is meant to be inspired from ancient greek styles
When did I ever say I wasn't political?
We know the ancient greeks had very colourful buildings and statues
Yall are just pretenders
"might"
oh look
nope its still red
Yeah, it is tragic, but it isn't an issue of science, it's more so a cult/a matter of faith.
well they will likely just fly me to a fake replica of Washington to cover up the truth
zako
you people believe in flying?
that's the core objection here, flat earthers are fundementally built around blind faith rather than science, so highlighting them as paragons of science is somewhat disagreeable.
and the group of people you talk about arent generally willing to change their mind
They aren't the only such group, they're only remarkable for being easy targets, since they're so trivially wrong.
we agree with you, but you're generalizing your beliefs of a very small group of people which belong to a very large community.
groupism
very scientific
eh, willful ignorance is something I do judge people for a lot of the time.
my sister talks like a flat earther, if I try to prove her wrong on something objective she is like "but thats my opinon, and you cant argue opinion"
arguably if you have decided that someone is right or wrong, you have judged
true
based
the problem is being wilfully wrong in presence of overwhelming evidence.
actively spreading misinformation, IOW
maybe it's closer to "i don't make assumptions or invoke a certain attitude around them"
you're presenting this as if they're just missing some key information that would change their mind
which isn't true
but everything they dont see with their own eyes could just have been faked, duh
they probably know about more experiments that prove the earth is a globe than any of us, they just choose to disregard them because they do not fit the agenda.
huh
so... faith in the anti-faith
people do engage with them, and they are the ones who make it hard
a room full of antivaxxers versus one doctor
belief the earth is flat is not a rational position. People who engage with them cannot do so by presenting science, they have to do so in the way you'd approach a cult member (just a bit easier).
it's fine to engage with people, just not the ones who will want to shout louder than you
I find it dangerous to present flat earthers as misinformed. They aren't misinformed, they have all the information, they just cherry pick.
you can have peaceful conversations with flat earthers, but the thing is the loud ones are more prevalent, so those who will engage with them have to always be on their guard
they do always lose lol
Yes, and flat earthers consistently do lose in those debates, but that doesn't matter, because the view is not based on evidence.
the issue is those people dont wanna hold fair debates, because they lose
And they are not convinced by fair debates.
You can't reason people out of positions they didn't reason themselves into, for a similar example, you can't convince someone to break up with their partner if they love them, even if they're abusive by evidence alone. The discussion must take a very different approach from a fair debate.
wait until this guy gets on quora

yes, and that small number are respectable. Broadly, the movement is not.
god I love a good circular debate in ot
and well, I'd think deeply as to why it took them this long to figure it out, when most people pull it off sometime by middle school.
I am in the latter category
Emotions are weird
Doesn't matter what you know, still don't feel like letting it go
yes
they're the best
Look at the logs
yes.
Fr
surely they've just incidentally been presented the evidence in an odd order that left flat earth the rational conclusion, and they didn't end up in a milquetoast cult on accident/on purpose.
the small number is fine. we don't need to talk about them
i only shame vim users unconditionally tbh
No, we wanna relentlessly shame the ones who dont change their mind
no. if they change their mind then good for them, there's nothing to shame for, instead we respect them.
Hey i tried emacs out and it justwasnt for me
death
My opposition is to the notion that flat earthers meaningfuly participate in the scientific process.
I'm sure there's a lot of psychological research into belief in conspiracy theories.
they do not, they are one of the more prominent anti-science communities around.
Spent an entire 2 months in a vanilla config
"flat earther" is a general term that will, to most people, mean the bunch that shall not change their mind

No, someone sitting at home being annoying on a forum is not a useful contrarian. You have to actually put effort towards disproving things fully, which flat earthers do not.

yeah fair
it's toxic regarding serious matters i think
yeah it's kind of regrettable that it's gotten to this point
it was much nicer back when we didn't have debates all the time
are you about to debate that we didn't have debates in the past
normal everyday conversations like the apple pie someone eats for dinner doesn't seem very toxic
oh god
dessert can be dinner, break free from the matrix holding you back
you wouldnt understand mar ๐
oh god...
Are you going against what my mommy taught me
you're not youthful like us
I do feel much worse after eating pastries now compared to when I was younger
any food greater than 2 chip bags is dinnerable
Eating apple pie for dinner makes me feel nauseated just thinking about it
but what if I dump protein powder into the apple pie
they've got protein everything nowadays
๐ญ
I do have cinnamon flavored protein powder.......... I should try it
i haven't had an apple pie before anyway
cinnamon sugar
Protein?
I eat five dozen eggs and I'm roughly the size of a barge
not just raw cinnamon
food just makes you grow big
strong part is mostly a lie
yes and sort of. A bit sweeter than a true chai, but if I add it to a chai latte it's great
I think I just eat them as they are, with eggs and all
and i don't wanna grow big so bags of chips seem perfectly fine
Big egg enthusiast, soft boiled is my favourite
i dont really like boiled eggs

ew boiled eggs
am i the only one put off by the fact that they'er cold?
huh what
are we talking hardboiled?
hard boiled is dry and takes moisture from your mouth, no
i don't think boiled eggs (even soft boiled) are that cold, unless put in the fridge or left for a couple hours
i like to boil a lot of eggs and then marinate it in soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic. Then simply eat it with hot rice or put it in soup noodles
i dont think i said anything during the flat earther stuff?
but regardless, let's move on.
Is thinking that flat earthers are dumb something that requires mod action?
this sounds very judgy from a person who does not judge but okay
- the small amount of people that can change their minds are respectable, everyone agreed on that
- the rest are simply ignorant
is the summary of the convo
Kinda confused about what the toxic part is, exactly.
i was agreeing with you there lol
oh
this is what it's like to engage with flat earthers
only it's a physiological problem that we're talking about
have you ever seen those quora reply chains
it's like 1 flat earther vs like 7 anti flat earthers
and then at the end the flat earther says something like this
Just stop.
if someone says they're moving on, it's not ideal to ping them with further replies on the topic

Whatโs so great about them
@rough sapphire here
Eggs are the perfect ingredient
why
Because theyre tasty by themselves and are the most versatile ingredient
why
They are used in sweet recipes, savoury recipes, are binders, have a ton of recipes for themselves
Name a better ingredient
salt
You dont eat salt by itself
Theres no foods featuring salt as the main item
Im telling you eggs are goated
you asked for a better ingredient
not necessarily an ingredient that can be consumed on its own ๐คจ
Is it better if it goes in fewer types of things
I'm not sure it goes into fewer types of things
Theres at least one example of type of food thing that salt doesnt belong to
The "eating it by itself" type
Unless you drink salt water which is kinda crazy
(broth isnt salt water)
This is bulletproof bro trust me
My favourite egg food is probably egg lemon soup
Take egg, take lemon, put them together in a soup
Marvelous product
well, if you define "type" as a category of food of sorts, then you're probably right that eggs are used in more of those categories
I still don't think that makes an ingredient better, but maybe it does
I won't deny that eggs are marvellous though
Ok but can you agree it at least makes it more versatile
Maybe not better
I maintain that it also makes it better but i can let that go
Have you tried egg drop soup
I think thats what its called
.wiki egg drop soup

nope, should probably try it sometime

i just installed wine, double clicked an installer.exe, and... it installed the app? like flawlessly
it might as well have been native
How's Photoshop, premiere and after effects running?
thankfully ive never had to use any of them in my life
And apps that have open source alternatives somebody using Linux is more likely to prefer anyway
I've had good experience with wine.
It sometimes even works when native doesn't
There's no open source alternative to Photoshop
There aren't even really any truly good paid alternatives.
I've settled into using Affinity Photo but there's still no smart guides. Nothing beats the usefulness of smart guides
Lining stuff up properly just requires 10x the time in any other application
I also do not know of any truly powerful video editor that's open source and can match the ability of something like premiere or resolve.
(this I actually do want to know, currently I'm eyeing the professional license for resolve, but that's a lot of money)
$300 is a big bullet to bite on software
I also just really don't like the UX of resolve. Premiere does it better. But Adobe have just gotten so bad I can't justify continuing to pay
Adobe is just evil lmao
So glad I never needed them
It really seems like Adobe is the biggest point of friction for people moving to Linux
Yeah. Once you use Photoshop it's so hard to use anything else
Like affinity is great and all but. It still can't compare
But one time payment and I own it and it actually runs
There's an issue with performance on Photoshoo where it takes literally 5 minutes to open and uses 100% CPU during this time. I randomly started getting it towards the last CC24 versions
But the issue thread for it on Adobe help started in 2015. a decade ago
Adobe hasn't even commented
W fr
I've been looking for a photo editor that's not subscription based ๐ญ
Affinity photo is your best bet
Give the trial a go
I'm not disappointed with my purchase
yeah I might, although i want something more akin to Lightroom than photoshop
But give it a REAL chance. It's weird and awkward at first ESPECIALLY if you are moving from PS because it just intrinsically works different
It's like going from vim to emacs
Well I guess in this case like going from emacs to vim
But despite not being as good, the one time purchase is a good enough trade off. Especially because it's not even that expensive.
for a one time purchase, do you still get things like updates?
You get updates for your major version perpetually
But you will need to pay for a v2->v3 upgrade if/when it happens
seems neat, I'll check it out
I too had good experience with wine
oh wait, you mean the program
Mmm
