Nice talking music with you! I gotta go but I'm here in OT basically everyday 😂

#

that graph is super hard to read, I'm still scratching my head

patent girder
#

it just says that things are getting warmer basically

sharp jasper
#

there has to be a better way to convey "arctic air is getting warmer since 1979"

patent girder
#

I don't see the need to break it up into months tbh

sharp jasper
#

I think they decided to do that so the "rank" kind of normalizes for the average temperature in each month

#

but it's still a baffling decision when presumably you could just... normalize to the average temperature in each month

#

coloring a heat map by rank must be some kind of crime against data science

patent girder
#

I don't really understand what "by rank" means

sharp jasper
#

within each month, they sorted the years by temperature, hottest = 1, coldest = 45 or 46

#

then they turned that number into a color

#

in temperature, it's like 12 different heat maps, each horizontal stripe is a different color scale

#

but not even that, because there's no indication of what the absolute difference is between the hottest and coldest

patent girder
#

oh
that's very weird

sharp jasper
#

yeah

patent girder
#

I didn't even notice that they aren't giving a unit of temperature or anything

coral peak
#

ah okay thanks

#

that makes more sense, just some averse(¿resist?)-to-change type folks i suppose

warped sentinel
#

I would separate the intent from the ability to override the default the branch for an organization

#

there can be good or bad reasons to do so

coral peak
#

thanks for the response

carmine apex
#

the older term was master, until that was perceived as racially troublesome about 4 years ago. a significant portion of the resistance is from those who disagree with that perception

warped sentinel
#

and besides that, there are also folks who might prefer develop

coral peak
#

oh interesting

#

i have not been developer for that long so i appreciate the background

carmine apex
#

aye, it wasn't the only one, just the most popular. trunk was another major competitor to the primary branch

warped sentinel
#

trunk is also far older as it comes from previous generations of version control systems

coral peak
#

trunk makes a lot of sense, if there are other "branches"

warped sentinel
#

the way to develop software has also changed a lot with the arrival of SaaS

#

Before SaaS, you would have trunk where the changes happen, but then you would have release branches to stabilize it and of which the final versions would be made

#

but with SaaS, software started to just be released from the main/master/trunk branches directly

#

and releases branches did not matter as much

#

so you can see all sorts of way for managing the versions of software

patent girder
#

"trunk" always makes me think of elephants before trees but it's probably because I've never used those older version control systems

A lot of isekais are also Korean. I can recommend some escapist casual ones. Like the guy getting a power to have a portal to another world and dropping back home to get supplies and selling them in the other world, lol. It's wholesome, he drops out of the stressful job as a programmer (if I recall correctly; it was mostly shitty manager) and enjoys the life and community

#

I can also recommend some "trying to get back home" ones, but the one I liked had a rushed ending... I like to imagine the author was actually also isekai'd into our world and got home, so someone else had to finish the story XD

What genres? Comedy? Action? Thriller? Drama? Fantasy?
The talk before was about isekais, so what about those? What setting? There are a lot of apocalyptic, there are 'our world getting portals and monsters' kind, there are historical setting with martial arts, there are fantasy worlds with different settings inside...

Let's see what I read at Webtoons app and can recommend for sure...
Tower of God, Omniscient Reader, Kubera, The Advanced Player of the Tutorial Tower, Eleceed (other webtoons from those authors are also great - Noblesse, and Girls of the Wild's), Black Knight, Teenage Mercenary, My S-class Hunters, The Dungeon Cleaning Life of a Once Genius Hunter, Infinite Leveling: Murim, Nano Machine, Nano List (those two are completely unrelated, just remembered them in order, lol), Neon Revenge, The Greatest Estate Developer, Hero Killer, Kill the Dragon, Auto Hunting with my Clones, The Strongest Florist, The Lone Necromancer, Limit Breaker, Resigning and Healing in Another World, Return to Player, Sweet Home, Bastard...

There's probably more but I got tired looking at the titles and deciding what I can recommend 100% and what is Korean for sure (webtoons also has comics from other creators, but you wanted manhwas).
If you read in the Webtoons app, it's official translation and you support the artists.

I usually leave the stuff as unread and then binge read a lot of episodes at once.

#

in the US it varies widely by state

tulip falcon

There's a lot of variance between each state in the United States. Some states have stand your ground law, which says you're not under any obligation to retreat. I'm murky on this one but I think you can shoot people to prevent them from committing a felony?

did you call the cops to the scene or make a complaint some other way?

someone should just go for a walk and bait the dogs in to shoot them /j

Here's a recipe. https://thecreeksidecook.com/wprm_print/5442 It's basically: milk plus some other yogurt as a starter. Heat the milk and hold it for a bit, cool a little, stir in the yogurt, pour mixture into a jar or container, "ferment" (hold warm) for 8-24 hours (depending on how "tart" you want it), then strain... and the byproduct is whey.

@weary moat you might be interested in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fossil_word if you've never seen it

A fossil word is a word that is broadly obsolete but remains in current use due to its presence within an idiom or phrase. An example for a word sense is 'ado' in 'much ado'. An example for a phrase is 'in point' (relevant), which is retained in the larger phrases 'case in point' (also 'case on point' in the legal context) and 'in point of fact'...
