Both need to overcome the challenge of something new. Only one has to also have the discipline to push through a lack of motivate/goal.

I was having a chat with a platform architect at work today. They were building with httpx at which point I called out it wasn't supported by our tracing agent out of the box. The face he made when I mentioned requests led to me learning about niquests.

it's a nothing burger really, the guy is kinda inexperienced and one of their claims i invalidated pretty quickly, guy didn't recover grafeully to say the least.

btw, github pages can't run any serverside code. so a php/python/whatever backend isn't an option

for example they compare against aiohttp for not having sync support when they don't claim otherwise, aiohttp is well know to only be asynchronous in nature.

there's no reason it shouldn't be, it can be a drop in replacement to requests, i.e import httpx as requests

they tout the lack of need for asynchrony but in order to enable multiplexing the server must be able to allow that on the server side which many dont, as far as I’m aware

There are several breaking differences between the two actually. In addition, requests uses urllib3 (like dozens of others). httpx rolled their own solution.

This is a common misconception, {}+[] actually does the unary +, not Addition, you want ({}+[]) to avoid parsing {} as an empty compound statement.

The issue with both TS and pythons type hints is that a lot of libs won't be typed. In many cases it limits the usefulness.

In py in particular, I've found that mypy isn't able to type check even if the libs are typed. The linter clearly shows types but mypy complains of lack of stubs

And then I'm spending time debugging the type checker setup and it makes me question if I'm using my time correctly

TypeScript is very similar but much much much worst.

There's endless configuration, several parts to the workflow, versioning of this and that thing, many moving parts that sometimes won't fit and then you're debugging a dev setup instead of being productive

Would be nice if the languages offered native, but optional type checking

Also if you were to, say, throw your current set of car keys at the bottom of a lake or something, and had to remake the car keys, certainly the car has traveled further at that point.
