We're a large, friendly community focused around the Python programming language. Our community is open to those who wish to learn the language, as well as those looking to help others.

he might have had a bad day
doesn't mean he needs to hate on a discord server

Did u hear about modmail bot??
What about it?
dammit
It got hacked lmao.
Alot of info got leaked.
Big Oof
Their support server also got Raided lol.
I hope this server is raid protected. Apparently alot of servers are being raided.
I guess people are bored
We get raided from time to time, but we manage to handle it well
I think the longest we've been down at one time was... I think an hour or so?
when webhook got leaked?
Yeah. Just be careful because apparently raid that few servers have had is where banned everyone from the server.
I dunno. Just make sure u have a bot that stops bots from joining and stops raids on server.
Just in case
Targeting huge servers.
Also few people are using @"everyone command to crash servers too before rading it.
So u need a bot that protects this server.
Just letting u guys know
Takes one person to @"everyone and it will ping all 120k people which will crash the server.
Discord is unstbale
*unstable
How would you determine what's a bot and what's not? They use user tokens to log in, so we can't simply check the API to see if they're bots. We do have what we call "Defcon" which lets us bounce people whose accounts are x number of days old. However we also just switched to Discord's native verification gate, which might also help reduce the raid amount. Time will tell.
aight i gtg too

the server is protected, admins have it well under control

When checking if something is equal to one thing or another, you might think that this is possible:
if favorite_fruit == 'grapefruit' or 'lemon':
print("That's a weird favorite fruit to have.")
While this makes sense in English, it may not behave the way you would expect. In Python, you should have complete instructions on both sides of the logical operator.
So, if you want to check if something is equal to one thing or another, there are two common ways:
# Like this...
if favorite_fruit == 'grapefruit' or favorite_fruit == 'lemon':
print("That's a weird favorite fruit to have.")
# ...or like this.
if favorite_fruit in ('grapefruit', 'lemon'):
print("That's a weird favorite fruit to have.")
an !format command might be useful to automatically format the given text into code @rugged root
!format x = float(input('please enter the first value: ', ))
y = float(input('please enter the second value:', ))
z = str(input('please enter an arithmetic '))
while z != '+' or z != '-' or z != '/' or z != '*':
z = str(input('please enter an arithmetic value: ', ))
print(x)
!format
Three back ticks (the symbol the shares the key with the tilde ~ next to the 1 on the number row) before and after your code
y = float(input('please enter the second value:', ))
z = str(input('please enter an arithmetic '))
while z != '+' or z != '-' or z != '/' or z != '*':
z = str(input('please enter an arithmetic value: ', ))
print(x)
can someone come down and help me
Another thing may well be that lot of people are just so wrapped up in their own worlds that the idea other people being annoyed isn't going to register, even when they're told. So when people blow up at them, it's legitimately a surprise for them. Like, neurologically, the pathways and neurons involving empathy are just not firing on all cylinders. We're not even in front of them, what do they care? They're entertained.
yh if anyone can come #off-topic-lounge-text
@fast gyro
this should be your message:
```py
your code here
```
Okay, remind me. How do you do that so that the backticks don't disappear. The last set usually makes it trigger the block for me
x = float(input('please enter the first value: ', ))
y = float(input('please enter the second value:', ))
z = str(input('please enter an arithmetic '))
while z != '+' or z != '-' or z != '/' or z != '*':
z = str(input('please enter an arithmetic value: ', ))
print(x)
Boom
```
it still tells me to enter an arithmetic value
Oh it's a logic error
You need ands, not ors
And you can simplify it a little bit
Like...
while z not in ("+", "-", "/", "*"):
So what you're checking for is to see if the character the user entered is in that container or not
Or wait, do you mean the and thing
The and thing is because can't be any of those
or implies that only one of those has to be true
It can't be, that's the point
i think doing it with == instead of != would be easier to understand, then you can use or
if z == "+" or z == "-":
ummm
Hey👋
@fast gyro that last code i sent basically means: if z is + or z is -
which is very easy to read and understand
I think I understood it
Well
@hidden cove If you are contractor, you need mindset of "Fuck you, pay me"
Okay so how would that work with the while loop, laun?
wait hmm
Because the implication is that you enter it when you have an invalid string
wrap it all in a not
yeah thats the correct way, but this is a bit easier to read without knowing the in operator ```
while not ( z == "+" or z == "-"):
@placid bluff Hey, what can we do for you? Sorry, conversation already on going
I'd argue the other is more explicit
Tossing the not at the beginning feels like it confuses it at first
I get it from the standpoint of explaining or and and, but...
yeah no doubt in is the correct solution
@rugged root I was wondering does anyone know about Git lfs?
I personally don't but you might ask over in #tools-and-devops. They'll know far more than I
to sum it up: I'd find out if you are W-2 to anyone, why is this payroll keeping their cut? What Services do they provide? How long is contract? Are any hours guaranteed?
not "w"
Previously in British English (but not in American English), the word "billion" referred exclusively to a million millions (1,000,000,000,000). However, this is no longer common, and the word has been used to mean one thousand million (1,000,000,000) for several decades.
1million = 1million
1billion = 1milliarde
1trillion = 1billion
hey guys
except sr.UnknownValueError:
print("Google Speech Recognition could not understand audio")
can someone explain to me why every time this error is raised it keeps repeating the last command
i mean : lets say i said hi
if audio == "hi":
print("hi")
if i dont speak the error is raised
but it keeps repeating the last command that it did
wich in this case is printing hi
probably because audio still has the value of "hi"
but its in a while True loop
its not supposed to save the value
should i put a audio ="": outside?
== compares, = changes the value on the left
but it cant be one =
wdym
== and = are different operators
like this
i edited
audio = ""
yeah
not working
its still repeating it
nvm fixed it
Meh, replace KnowBe4 with Microsoft ATP
I'd love PyPy to replace CPython so it got backing of PSF
If Microsoft Scripting Language can be JIT, Python can be JIT
Hey @wise glade!
It looks like you tried to attach file type(s) that we do not allow (.pdf). We currently allow the following file types: .3gp, .3g2, .avi, .bmp, .gif, .h264, .jpg, .jpeg, .mkv, .mov, .mp4, .mpeg, .mpg, .png, .tiff, .wmv, .svg, .psd, .ai, .aep, .xcf, .mp3, .wav, .ogg, .webm, .webp, .flac, .afdesign, .m4a, .csv.
Feel free to ask in #community-meta if you think this is a mistake.
I tried to do some dict multilining on mobile discord earlier today and it was an unmitigated disaster.
To start with, it looked right in composition. On send it just...wasn't. It went downhill from there.
am I the only one seeing this "not allowed" message?
Doesn’t that have to be print (“abc”) rather than print (‘abc’)
You can't have linting errors if you disable the linter.
Oh?
HELLO
I thought it always had to be double
Nope, single or double will both work
There's no set convention as which you should use
No
The only convention is for using 3 double quotes for multiline/doc strings
I see
Wrong for REST API using JSON, JSON requires "" for strings
most JSON parsers will convert '' -> ""
Ah, my mistake
@rugged root can I send you the 4 pages pdf that I just screenshotted and shared here
I switched devices and you all sound like you dropped down a few hz.
It's so weird.
i meen
what is sys.exit(1)
@rugged root One word. Vocoder.
Why did you switch devices?
@high ingot Moved to my room.
O
generally branch == feature
multiple developers may work on same branch
but generally it's very serial, like Dev A will stop working on it, Dev B will pick it up
it's very rare for Dev A and Dev B working on same branch at same time
Everyone hates Merge Conflicts
Hey @whole bear!
It looks like you tried to attach a Python file - please use a code-pasting service such as https://paste.pythondiscord.com
conflict only occurs if you change the same line of code, right? if u append more code, its fine?
Do u live in the U.S. or Canada?
and if someone puts extra code in middle of a function, git may be wrapped around line code changes
Yes, East Coast US
commit often, push frequently is my motto
Open the connection on that raw socket
dos.connect((ip, port))
# Send the request according to HTTP spec
#dos.send("GET /%s HTTP/1.1\nHost: %s\n\n" % (url_path, host))
msg = "GET /%s HTTP/1.1\nHost: %s\n\n" % (url_path, host)
byt = msg.encode()
dos.send(byt)
except socket.error:
print ("\n [ No connection, server may be down ]: " + str(socket.error))
finally:
# Close our socket gracefully
dos.shutdown(socket.SHUT_RDWR)
dos.close()
I prefer Commit Often so you are not stuck commenting out huge blocks of codes
and squash merge exist if your company hates heavy commit trees
i c~
large commit history only sucks for those not using GUI Git clients
Github calls it Network
YO TEAM?? somebody was talking about these DDOS scripts being illegal? Why is THAT? The DDOS are being used against fraudulent call centers where people pretend to be IRS (fake) MS tech support (fake) credit card services (fake) and OTHER fraudulent persons. It is obvious that the US GOV does not have resources or time to get after these crooks?
Why could a DDOS against criminals be considered illegal?
What gives???
:/
:((
or how about we can't help because !rule 5
Short paragraph about the video for SEO. If you are reading this, that's because Matt is dumb and ...
Get this one @uncut meteor
ok deal
Why?
@uncut meteor Dynamic interference https://imgur.com/gallery/YtzhJIs
hypnotism
@uncut meteor The first, interference pattern. The second, trigonometric function intersection along x and y axes, the functions having time as a value included for frames of the animation.
ty, i'll note it down
what do you mean intersection along x and y axes?
just tell me edy
trig functions are represented on 2d or 3d axes?
I mean, if there is time, it would go 3d
what is your function looking like? f(x) = sin(x)
@neon sleet Well, say you feed the x position into sin, and the y position into sin. The value of each point in the plane is a result of how close the results of the two functions are to each other.
guessed it
This results in a sort of chickenwire pattern, I think.
But you can play around with the functions to achieve all sorts of fun things.
how are you passing both x and y to the sin?
oh
wait
x and y are independent of each other?
