That sucks.
Didn't you get a new vpn?
Mobile discord absolutely sucks
I've tried it
haven't heard about echidnas in a hot minute
it's not really a vpn issue, it's mostly a discord issue
ooh the whole gang is here
I thought it was an ISP issue.
it just so happens that this makes discord bugs more apparent
I see.
You up for a challenge AF? I'm trying to create the mapping for cuda-quantum. They have this reallly weird way of calling ops.
Dude what device are you on to have all that autocorrect like capitaliziation and like full stops and stuff??

@upper basin Why is it _define_gate_mapping instead of define_gate_mapping?

@upper basin Do you mostly just code in Python?(If so i would highly recommend trying to use pycharm community or professional if you want to buy it [i mostly recommend community])

I pretty sure it doesnt (it's not an electron app)

Also like
pycharm isn't an electron app either

in the website it doesn't say Ever Diamond is a WIP or a failed project or smth

It says to voice verify you need to be active in 3 ten minute blocks. Does 30 minutes in vc cover that or do I have to leave and come back 3 times in 10 minute increments?
I think I only joined 2 days ago and I'm not a fan of text based communication on Discord.

Is it ever possible to truly prove the Collatz Conjecture? Isn't this something that we'd have to test ad infinitum?
@whole bear Yo
Which major?
I should have figured that, honestly
guys quick question please
i remember a guy told me there's this website where you can find c code problems and you try to solve theml there do anyone know the name of the website
?
ohh nice
yo u got your own emoji
haha
of the discord?
or this server
ahh hmm
mfs in my college had problems installing dependencies lol
its nice u know what u going for tbh
Students and not professors, right?
Oh thank god
๐ my professor was god tier
like the HOD
or head of department
mf had whole year 3,4 book memorized
yea
WHAT SHOULD I LOOK UP ??
leetcode/codewars/codeforces?
"C code practice problems" would probably be better
those aren't limited to C
idk any C specific
Huh, hadn't heard of codeforces
@rugged tundra it's great that u are building stuff being at uni
@rugged root same our final year project's published papers got rejected 5 times : (
Yikes. For a Bachelor's?

There's such a thing called balance.

@barren kettle hi avanti

its a new video game on steam
Plenty of gamers here
yes sir!
๐ญ it was rare to find people in my college who gamed lol
like in class there were only 3 of us who played any
and we had around 75 people in one class
Wait, really?
I keep seeing that with comp sci folks
yeuup
Nah. If I'm on here I'm typically at work
I have large gaps between stuff I need to do at times. And any time I DO have something I drop off here to do it
thats actually good to stay on informative/productive servers like these yea
rather than mass public serves who are kinnda pointless talk
I dont understand anything but feels good listening something informative , though still don't understand
That's the justification I give when folks ask why I'm on here at work
I've gotten quite a bit of help troubleshooting problems at times

so you're not into computers
Oh wow that looks confusing
it's just computer things
I am new to learning python. I just know Variables and functions . Just 1 week of learning the language

Goodevening sir
Hello to everyone I forgot to say hello to
Same boat, but with HTML, CSS and JS. I'll move on to Python next.
u like shooting games or something
Goodluck with that work sir ur very good at it
I try to be
Has anyone here ever used Mimo to learn?
Try to make sure everyone feels welcome

I do easy python projects
HTML, CSS and JS are all part of what I call the web triangle

What is python uses
I'm using Mimo and they have a Full Stack Devoloper path. But I don't have an end goal in mind just yet. Got a wife and kids and a non-programming related job. Just trying to learn a new marketable skill.
Ohhhhh
i love Javascript
Thats awesome
u can have just HTML too
First time i tried it i fell inlove but people say python is better to learn
What is mimo
Thankss
mimo.org it's a code learning source. They have free and paid version to learn coding.
@rugged root is it like a binder for like the data being calculated using python which is being processed by c,c++ ?
ohh yea effective and fast calculation via python
hmm
Yeahh, python is fast asf
WHATS RUST I HEAR SOME STUFF ABOUT IT
wooahh!
I saw a video that mentioned that learning syntax isn't as usful as learning what the code does. With AI assisting many coders, is there really a need to remember syntax?
Should i learn C++ or continue with python
Mr hemlock whats ur mbti
I know why they have a voice verification process, but it's still a little annoying, not a big fan of text based communication on Disccord.
@dry jasper u sounded like one of the HRs
MBTI?
It tests and classifies you under a certain personality trait
I think so

Mr hemlock can u explain "elif" in Python
Oh the Meyers Briggs thing?
So regarding elif
The easiest way to think of it is how it's done in certain other languages
There's if, else if and else
Yeah, "greater tragedies in life" and all that. Not the worst thing either. I can wait. This is one of the few coding servers that I've joined that actually have active vcs.
Python just uses elif instead of else if
hmmmm
Can some 1 regularly teach me just for like 30 to 40 minutes . I will be more accountable , it will be more easy and consistent to learn
if says "Check the condition and enter the block if it evaluates to True and move to the next section if it's not.
Ohh like extra option
I'll let you know, that I suck at reading tone or meaning in text, not sure what that means, if anything.
elif says if the if or elif above wasn't true, check this condition. If it evaluates as True, go into the block, if not, go to the next part
Yeah it's a chain
yea text are like that
Damn thats a good explanation
How long have you been coding sir

I've been burned multiple times because I misread intention or tone.
Now there's something to note, and I'll write a quick explanation. When you have an if/elif/else chain, as soon as you hit one that's True, you don't bother with any of the other checks in that chain
it do be kinnda like that tho sometimes fr

I heard a good way to learn code is that after you understand it, pretend like you're teaching it to a 12yo, as teaching something you want to learn helps you learn better. Has anyone tried that before?
When i get syntax error i improve alot cause i get to think and modify where i went wrong
and that too
Damn mr hemlock is really helpful, and his coaching is free lmao
Damn, your my inspiration now, someday ill teach people too, hopefully
@rugged root could you do us all a quick favor and clone yourself a few dozen times, lol

The docstring for a class should summarize its behavior and list the public methods and instance variables. If the class is intended to be subclassed, and has an additional interface for subclasses, this interface should be listed separately (in the docstring). The class constructor should be documented in the docstring for its init method. Individual methods should be documented by their own docstring.

If a class subclasses another class and its behavior is mostly inherited from that class, its docstring should mention this and summarize the differences. Use the verb "override" to indicate that a subclass method replaces a superclass method and does not call the superclass method; use the verb "extend" to indicate that a subclass method calls the superclass method (in addition to its own behavior).

(as in an unfixable one)
((as in I'm too lazy to fix))
alt-tab remembers the position when interrupted
very unintuitive
Linux is so predictable, but it doesn't care about you. You end up with 100 quality-of-life things developed by 100 different people and the promise of control end up falling apart
I spent so much time tinkering the perfect environment, but when something broke it was so convoluted
I rage quit and just when with everything default
I customise as little as possible
Default GNOME, default KDE
Default text editors, default browsers and all
Such a shame you can't drop-in replace a WM with a DE at this point in time
Anyone use Gouda?
The problem with Ubuntu is that they lack the compatibility with my specific Hardware.
I can't use my hardware because my laptop brand doesn't support Linux , it was made for windows and many of its applications are not suitable or even executable in linux
KDE Plasma for me just felt like almost Windows-like but better
PopOS is the one trying to do something about it, but for all I've seen, it isn't the same :(
hello @halcyon grail
yes
I mean the tilling features, though
I've come to use Xfce + i3 because of the pre-configured goodness and the tiling features
KDE+i3 would be a godsent
People tried to implement proper tiling in KDE with WM scripts, but last time I tried it was dead slow
What about phone is?
and a hack in nature
I should try using ALT Linux again
Linux lacks compatibility and many applications are not available for linux
The open sourcseness makes up for it
That's a platform problem, though
There is Linux os where u can download windows programs
Torvalds wished Steam getting strong on Linux would motivate people to develop a unified platform to develop apps under, but even the consolidated tools and libraries don't take stability and stdardization seriously
the fact you have to recompile for minor versions of glibc is such an insult
yes
the platform rabbit hole goes deep
I heard Unreal Engine couldn't be ported to Linux any easily because the engine makes syscalls to the NT kernel
so even syscalls would have to be standardized
right
HAHAHA I remember that one
everyone has a better idea than the previous person
hi any1 know a app that has like sorting for my leptop screen full

I'm hitting a wall of understanding with coding webpage intereactions in JS. Understanding what they do is easy, remember formatting and syntax is tripping me up. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for remembering formatting and syntax in that area?
its available on vs code
๐
also its for every language
I'll use that once I understand it, but I'd like to understand it first.
its not that hard to understand it tbh
What it does is easy, but remembering when to use a period before or when and where a comma is needed. And while I get that remembering all of that is easy for some, but learning rates aren't universal.
i agree.
speaking of commas
[,,,,,] is valid JS
JS: [,,x] = [1,2,3]
Python: _,_,x = [1,2,3]
it's not null
it's not undefined
it's the third one
empty
i finally have a reason for not using js
my soul
@north goblet @minor python ๐
There are times el[] is needed, but I can't remeber if a = has to go after or before, if it ever used for an id. I'm sure I'll get all of this eventually, I just need to find a way for my brain to make the right connections when needed.
"language designers often argue about whether a language should have a null value or not. no one really argues that it needs to have three"
try to generalise as you learn (although not do it too much, always verify) instead of remembering specific cases
Well, Python, we have NaN and None. So...at least two?

6.10.3. Identity comparisons
The operators is and is not test for an objectโs identity: x is y is true if and only if x and y are the same object. An Objectโs identity is determined using the id() function. x is not y yields the inverse truth value. [[4]](https://docs.python.org/3/reference/expressions.html#id22)

But don't you think China is better than democratic India?
I mean China doesn't have caste system and chaos of diversity
Indians are so distinct that it's more like country within country.
Suppose PM speaks something in one part of India and other part of India need translator to understand him
Is it a false equivalence?
It's definitely some bad faith arguing for sure
China just destroys the cultures it has within
I think most big imperialist countries are fucking evil

my attempts at verifying that thing in parentheses have failed
@drifting bramble ๐
(also trying to find if Social Credit System has any inheritability/influence on family members, which would make it quite similar to caste system)
Hindi is just 200 year old and it has become mother tongue of so many Indians that now their own language has extinct.
India has done similar thing with its people on purpose.

Whataboutism
in case not clear,
I'm not making an argument, I'm just saying why China doesn't have "chaos of diversity"
^^
I might get a third monitor soon
Social Credit is form of system that punishes those who are disobedient to government and law of China.
caste system is thing that is more like social and economic distinction by birth until death, and caste system and ethnicity is interchangeable term in India's context.
Suppose an Individual marry an Individual from other caste, he might be lynched by the so called caste group organization
I know what those are.
Comparing social credit to caste system is absurd.
not if it had this
which, thankfully, it doesn't have
social credit system is absurd too
I literally went and checked to make sure those are very different
that's the whole point
I do agree
