Um, Davis? We explicitly say NOT to spam
Please don't encourage users to spam in our server
oO ok ๐คซ
i mean it's up to you; devcord does exactly the same but without saying what the conditions actually are
nobody's forcing you to use vc

def con():

@upper basin
It took until now for me to check this reply, without VC this is useless
I agree that the voice gate is a bad thing.
That being said...
Time that was, back a few years, we did not have the voice gate.
What happened was that every fifteen minutes or so, you'd get people coming in, scream, shout racial slurs, play loud music, blow into their microphone, etc etc and be all-around dickheads.
This had a particularly rattling effect on my nerves.
Because the voice gate requires people to socially invest in the server and demonstrate patience, the voice gate proved to be a very effective counter to these people, who are not interested in doing that.
The voice gate is a bad thing. It presents itself as a barrier to legitimate participation for newcomers.
It is a bad thing that eliminates a worse thing.
Therefore, on balance, it is better to have it than to not.
There are other means of achieving a similar effect, turning on phone number verification, etc, but these are invasive and ultimately unnecessary and would likely provoke a similar reaction as the voice gate as it stands.
It's a speed bump, not a brick wall.
I have sympathy for your position.
I disagree, the voice gate is great. I love it.
It's easy enough to get through, and does its job amazingly. Never seen a server of this scale (or close) manage trolls / spam so well.
No one forced us into this server, no one forced us into voice, it's all a courtesy from the team and a privilege for the users.

the science is very interesting for sure
yeah agreed @mild quartz
it does seem to come from an egocentric place imo. but the science is objective, so it still benefits everyone
this is controversial maybe
but we should celebrate when self-centered thinking produces good things
doing good should not have to be self sacrifice
if we build a system where people act in self interested ways
and as a side effect it benefits everyone else
that is a great thing
because you can rely on people to be self centered
cant rely on people to be altruistic
oh no i do agree with that. good in all forms should still be championed. i was just mentioning the egocentrism since it was spoken about in the vc
i don't think everything that's achieved from egocentrism has to be a negative thing
to be clear i also agree with and see the issues with the egocentrism
well yeah it can be a good or bad thing. the context is very important to look into
don't get too happy
let's not forget that the whole capitalist idea of "greed is a good thing" produced the biggest financial collapse in human history
which financial collapse
2008 financial collapse
i would say this is a slightly different topic tbh. but i see the strong correlation
i just disagree with this
there need to be corrections when the system starts to lie
the collapse proves that the system works
and in the bigger picture its a blip in a big upwards trajectory
spoken just like a capitalist.. or a naive
you cant deny the improved wellbeing of people from economic development between 1950-present under capitalism
process has ups and downs
overall result is undeniably good
it's only a well being for those who can pay
i can agree with this generally. but imo capitalism does need to be kept in check from time to time
it's a pay to play system
not denying this at all
fair
one thing that keeps it in check is the free real estate market
which discovered the mispricing of debt on mortgages
then we were forced to pay our debt
-> 2008 recession
this is good
otherwise the system will continue to lie and lie
and eventually deteriorate and collapse
ask the homeless or those living in cramped compartments if standard of living has improved for them
it has
enforced pronouns are dumb af. especially when written into law
ask the bottom 50% of society what life was like in 1900 or 1950
let's see.. people could afford housing.. afford to have children
this is a common myth
defining the metrics is half the key to defining what is progress
people are getting homes younger than ever before
silent majority lol
that is not globally true
there was a short blip where millenials had a tough time
outside of this there has been constant improvement in affordability of homes
๐คทโโ๏ธ
@ebon sandal don't let anyone assume your pronouns btw in conversations like this
you can say they're anything
lets not consider mortgage as ownership just yet
uk housing market ๐
we're talking about capitalism here ๐
yuh. hello
same lol. i think 95% of the human population does
i'd just avoid using pronouns altogether and just use their name
it can change from day to day
it's dumb
it's a minefield that you're never gonna be able to avoid
which one do you normally go by?
yeah england has some weird laws on housing development that have prevented progress being made, mostly because all the old people want to keep their houses pricey... but these are all going to go to people in inheritance so I guess there is a silver lining
especially the fucking greenbelt laws that prevent us from expanding our city borders...
Why is my VS code not showing errors when I do them?
it's not really an increase in buying power if a man can't buy a roof over his head
there are always gonna be ideological differences between people tbh
living in cramped compartments isn't an indication of increases in buying power
i don't think @ebon sandal is being disrespectful
this is getting blown up way more than it needs to. he's allowed to not want to talk to certain people. that's a personal freedom
I think you overestimate the quality of middle class homes in the past
from what i've seen he's not being aggressive or mean to people
he's avoiding conflict. which imo is respectful
jikky is trying to incite
Which is why I'm trying to kill it
this whole converstation is so tedious

AI is a huge job market disruptor and itll get worse i think in the upcoming years

Yeah the UK planning laws aren't exactly pro development. Planning applications are judged on a case-by-case basis by the local authority and there's basically no way to guarantee that an application will be approved, which creates a lot of uncertainty.
I know that I have to write "def" in the beginning

passing a parameter means putting the parameter in parenthesis when defining the function def is_boiled(temp): .....
But I need to learn to think myself, but thank you ๐
Where did you get the "2" from the last print?
Just curious
What about 101?
these are all arguments you pass to the parameter temp as defined earlier
Yup, but how do I know which arguements to write?
you defined the function so you already know which arguments it will accept...
not assuming implicit type casting .. in that case you will write additional code to make the function more robust
:x: Your 3.12 eval job has completed with return code 1.

Guys, I am having an issue opening Visual Studio Code on my laptop.
Does anyone have a solution for this?
Using macOS Big Sur
Version: 11.7.10
Done all that, not working ๐ฌ
Let me share my screen and show you what is happening
if it's from the terminal, are there any logs?
are there any leftover vsc processes in the background?
is it given all the necessary permissions?
broken even after reboot?
or was it never not broken to begin with?
So basically, I updated my and restarted VS Code, and it never opened ๐ฌ
And yes...
Usually, I update it when I open the application, it takes less than two minutes for it to finish processing, but this around, not a chance.
I have an idea though, I am gonna install it again, but an older version of it and see if I get any luck๐ค๐พ
I will keep you updated @vocal basin๐๐พ
Falukorv ( FAH-loo-korv, Swedish: [หfษฬหlษตหkษrv]) is a sausage (korv in Swedish) which ordinates from Falun, Sweden. It's made of a grated mixture of smoked pork and beef or veal with potato starch flour, onion, salt and mild spices. Falukorv is a pre-cooked sausage, thus it can be eaten cold without any further preparation.

PEP 8 is the official style guide for Python. It includes comprehensive guidelines for code formatting, variable naming, and making your code easy to read. Professional Python developers are usually required to follow the guidelines, and will often use code-linters like flake8 to verify that the code they're writing complies with the style guide.

The fuck? Why does GTK handle auto-repeat so strangely https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/KeyboardEvent#auto-repeat_handling
KeyboardEvent objects describe a user interaction with the keyboard; each event describes a single interaction between the user and a key (or combination of a key with modifier keys) on the keyboard. The event type (keydown, keypress, or keyup) identifies what kind of keyboard activity occurred.
What are good methods to determine if my computer has been hacked? Aside from the normal antivirus?
the difference from non-gtk is extra keyups seems like
so it's as if it's actually being repeatedly pressed
In these environments, unfortunately, there's no way for web content to tell the difference between auto-repeating keys and keys that are just being pressed repeatedly.
Does people earn any money from owning big discord server?
there is a feature that allows collecting donations
also advertisements/partnerships/whatever else you can do given enough audience
Whether thieves came up with it or not, this usage is referencing the fact that geese have long necks and like to poke their heads just about everywhere (literally, watch out if youโre around a gaggle of people friendly geese, particularly if youโre wearing a dress or just if youโre a guy and want to keep your sensitive bits unpoked).
Around the 17th century, โganderโ also was used as a verb to mean โto wander foolishly/aimlesslyโ.
have any one of you tried starting their own businsess?
Not us, but we do accept donations for server costs I think?
nah
but you're not just given money for the fact of owning a server, no
Many people often misuse the word โgaggleโ thinking it refers to a group of geese in general. In fact, it technically just means a group of geese on the ground. When they are in the air, they are called a โskeinโ, when flying in a V, or a โplumpโ, when flying in a close-knit group.
Geese have been around on the Earth for approximately 10 million years.

The sched module defines a class which implements a general purpose event scheduler:
one of ways to schedule stuff in Python
Sup
@abstract scarab Maybe this library fits your needs? https://pypi.org/project/schedule/
It seems to be actively maintained.
The other library hasn't had any updates in 5 years it looks like.
when was sched last updated at
you on mute why
No idea. I think when I last tried using it it was fairly limited in functionality.
4 years
Co-worker is back here and I don't want to disturb
technically less than 5 years lol
awk
python used to have threadless builds?
second-to-last commit to sched was 7 years ago and that commit was removing threadless build support
i mean if you talk, it will impose that you are talking with other co-workers and working so overall a good impact XD
Exactly
sfc /scannow
Gotta go cya all ๐
chkdsk
sfc /scannow; dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth; sfc /scannow
why 2 scannow?
On the off chance that there was a file that was corrected in the OS image that dism cleaned up
online means it's the currently active OS image
And the image itself is what sfc uses to compare to and fix files
So if that image is slightly borked, then it wouldn't be repairing the right things
I can hear you
what does dism do
Deployment Image Servicing and Management. It assists with recovery and repair of your Windows install
Yep yep
yes now its look like this
but still got this error
Error: Could not find or load main class demo

what wanna i do?
Help me dude
i think its unable to find the class demo, make sure you are calling the correct function

All good
No worries

@silk dust Doing what?
trolling java server
I mean... just don't be a dick
Oh man. How unexpected. How could you have foreseen these things happening
-HUGE SARCASM-
Do you know the number of folks who come into the server here and do that shit?
It's exhausting
No
And the folks who are just trying to learn?
Yeah no shit
Just don't intentionally do stuff that you know is going to cause an issue
I never understood why people do that
@silk dust If you did that stuff here, you would have also received the same treatment
Just don't be a dick
It doesn't matter. Be respectful.
hi
i installed windows today
What's up, hope you're doing well. at work? How's that going.
Yep, at work. Going alright. Co-worker is back here which is why I'm in no speaky mode
I'll be back later

PEP 8 is the official style guide for Python. It includes comprehensive guidelines for code formatting, variable naming, and making your code easy to read. Professional Python developers are usually required to follow the guidelines, and will often use code-linters like flake8 to verify that the code they're writing complies with the style guide.

@rugged root that Rust issue turned out to be a compiler bug
Oh sick, good find
it was already found three months ago
@rugged root the only diff i could find bw your code and the relm4 code is that you init something but don't pass it to the app object..
fn init(
_init: Self::Init,
is this intentional? and is the delay in the key press event or in the label text update?
me have to go bye bye
the previous "why even use functions" discussions was quite recent lol
btw you can just _
without the name
also, more common for default trait implementations:
let _ = init;

base_button.grab_focus();

Do a PEG parser
Syntax errors in your language you mean?
Well you know how python improved its syntax error messages recently? That's achieved by running the PEG parser a second time if it fails the first time. The second time it has additional rules for creating the error messages.
I'm 100% sure how it works ๐
Oh Guido wrote a series of blog posts about PEG parsers
Python switched over to a peg parser a few years ago

hello @wooden ibex
jump after the outbox to inbox seems to be the issue
||rotating the program around a bit so that this is done without a jump|| reduces the count

It taught me a new aspect
about loops
real compilers sometimes do this type of rearrangements too
Here is an example of what I learnt by solving that before
does qiskit.chemistry still work its not in the latest version on the qiskit ibm docs
@upper basin
I think it's deprecated and integrated into qiskit itself.
They're migrating more towards being a service for low-level computation than applications.

@upper basin when you measure your qubits what does the output turn out to be i know itll be either 0 or 1 but do you have it turn into a byte that represents something?
When you measure a qubit, it collapses into either 1 or 0. When you measure multiple qubits it'll look like a binary string.
FullMetal Alchemist The Movie The Conqueror of Shamballa (U.S Trailer) Funimationโข
so with the qiskit we have right now were basically only accessing low level language? @upper basin
Quantum circuits are the equivalent of assembly (low level) commands. You go one layer lower and you'll get electrical pulses which I think would be considered machine code.
