American's are more likely to believe people with a British accent
For some reason it's more trustworthy sounding
Woof
True

Your voice is already deep
Yep, can now
Mainly didn't want to interrupt the previous - no @strong arch - conversation

Yeah I hate it on Mobile
Yeah
Thanks By the way for that
No prob, I was curious about it
Yeah, I think its super crazy, 3,500ft is so deep.

What accent is that?
It's actually simpler
Wait, do they still use/need the bonjour protocol?
Becase CUPS
For certain things
My main business app installs Bonjour for Windows
No, it's not
BTW @rugged root
Did you get hit today?
Was your MSP ahead of the curve?
I was not
I don't know what you're talking about so I'm going to assume no?

Faulty antivirus update marked StartMenu/taskbar shortcuts to M365 apps as "bad" and delted them
Yep. Still ongoing
Windows Defender is the anti-virus, right? We're using Trend Micro so it didn't apply to us
gotcha 🙂
Yep. But! Turns out "sometimes" the rules still run, even with the builtin antivirus disabled
Haven't encountered anything, so I guess our MSP is on point
I was sick, so I woke up, blew my nose, saw this, went "awww shitt", and promptly passed back out
Woke up to complaints about it
@serene glade God the Switch Joy Cons must be hell for you
I mean they didn't even sell that many of them, did they?
My dad called and said he did help one employee open the apps without the desktop
[so they were already open]
Hour later that employee emails me and says "[bossman] says all my apps are uninstalled and will need to be reinstalled."
Like... You had them open an hour ago??
Why?
what is unix
Unix is an older operating system that Mac is based on, and inspired Linux
So questions about those go there
Because it sounds like something may have happened to your system's install
I can't at the moment
Then reinstall them
Fine, but are you going to do what I'm recommending or are you going to keep pitching a fit
Because if you're going to keep throwing a tantrum, I'm not helping period
Is there a way to specifically uninstall on Mac?
Again, that's how little I know about it
Alright
I delete those??
One sec
Ok
So delete 3.11
Ok
And I recommend using something called pyenv: https://github.com/pyenv/pyenv
That'll help you manage different versions of Python on Mac
Read the readme on that page. There's a section on installing
I downloaded the zip
If you have homebrew you can do it that way
Would be easier
brew update
brew install pyenv
I got the file

Oh actually, I might have to make it a perma, need to double check my notes
LOL
I didnt even do anything wrong :/
You did. You intentionally interrupted the ongoing conversation, acted rudely, and started complaining about not getting help when someone was giving you help
How did I act rudely
I never complained about not getting help I was confused on how to open the pyenv thing and set it up
@shadow sable let me send you a link
read this then try again tomorrow ... http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
Bruh I just got server muted again :/
you unmuted me now you server muted me like what...
It was perma cause I "interupted" a conversation when I was asking you how to set it up

@lucid blade The soundtrack for Gran Turismo 2 was just absolute gold

it was but i prefer it to the new iterations
they could have made the new ones legendary
It is

Anything regarding infractions needs to go through ModMail
I sent my response
Then have patience
I’m not rushing anybody :/
@serene glade "So, you like to play Castlevania"
No no no
Mantis would read your memory card

And would mention a random Konami game you had saved
Controller had to be moved
So he couldn't track your movements
Was it a later one where.... I can't remember which boss it was, but there was one of them in one of the games where if you had been playing or your game was saved for like over a week he would just have died of old age when you get to him
Yarp
Right but we have notes on the reasons
Sure, and we know how all that falls into place because of the infraction information we keep
Total number doesn't matter as much as the reasons
But they’re using it as leverage to keep my perm mute

hi
im just learning python
as of... yesterday i think
i managed to make a "hello world!" program but im completely lost besides that
interesting!
i made a few different personalized hello world messages i showed to my friends, it was fun:)
neat!
!e ```py
print("Hello, world.")
v = print
v("Goodbye.")```
@somber heath :white_check_mark: Your 3.11 eval job has completed with return code 0.
001 | Hello, world.
002 | Goodbye.
i followed that for about five minutes but I'm a bit confused
its alright!
you seem really smart!
!d str.split
str.split(sep=None, maxsplit=- 1)```
Return a list of the words in the string, using *sep* as the delimiter string. If *maxsplit* is given, at most *maxsplit* splits are done (thus, the list will have at most `maxsplit+1` elements). If *maxsplit* is not specified or `-1`, then there is no limit on the number of splits (all possible splits are made).
If *sep* is given, consecutive delimiters are not grouped together and are deemed to delimit empty strings (for example, `'1,,2'.split(',')` returns `['1', '', '2']`). The *sep* argument may consist of multiple characters (for example, `'1<>2<>3'.split('<>')` returns `['1', '2', '3']`). Splitting an empty string with a specified separator returns `['']`.
For example:
!d str.join
str.join(iterable)```
Return a string which is the concatenation of the strings in *iterable*. A [`TypeError`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/exceptions.html#TypeError "TypeError") will be raised if there are any non-string values in *iterable*, including [`bytes`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/stdtypes.html#bytes "bytes") objects. The separator between elements is the string providing this method.
i have no idea how to do anything except a hello world message tbh
!e py lines = ["apples", "pears", "oranges", "bananas"] result = "\n".join(lines) print(result)
@somber heath :white_check_mark: Your 3.11 eval job has completed with return code 0.
001 | apples
002 | pears
003 | oranges
004 | bananas
@brave pewter
and the first time around it took me a little less than six hours
you all seem super nice:)
lines = ["apples", "pears", "oranges", "bananas"]
with open("file.txt", "w") as file:
file.writelines(lines)```
!e py lines = ["apples", "pears", "oranges", "bananas"] print(lines) lines[1] = "peach" print(lines)
@somber heath :white_check_mark: Your 3.11 eval job has completed with return code 0.
001 | ['apples', 'pears', 'oranges', 'bananas']
002 | ['apples', 'peach', 'oranges', 'bananas']
nothing you guys are saying makes any sense to me and thats how i know you're good at this
!e py a, b, c = (1, 2, 3) print(a) print(b) print(c)
@somber heath :white_check_mark: Your 3.11 eval job has completed with return code 0.
001 | 1
002 | 2
003 | 3
Variable unpacking.
!e py things = "apples", "pears", "oranges" for iv in enumerate(things): print(iv)
@somber heath :white_check_mark: Your 3.11 eval job has completed with return code 0.
001 | (0, 'apples')
002 | (1, 'pears')
003 | (2, 'oranges')
!e py things = "apples", "pears", "oranges" for i, v in enumerate(things): print(i, v)
@somber heath :white_check_mark: Your 3.11 eval job has completed with return code 0.
001 | 0 apples
002 | 1 pears
003 | 2 oranges
li[li.index('apples')]
for i, line in enumerate(lines):
...```
question, if you could go back and time to when you were first learning python, and tell yourself something, what advice would you give?
Come here earlier.
i just burst into laughter🤣
so where would you say the best place to start just after hello world is?
im really sorry but something important came up! i have to go!
hello

Hang on, I screwed up.
@late vale Hey!

Russia and india always had a good relationship on the top but india always tries to act like the fool always
Tryna be safe on both sides always
Hello back
A friend who acts as friend but bites you in the behind is not a friend 💀
No ukrainiens could have just end this shit in a peaceful manner but they chose the other way
@willow lynx no, india took russians side
Opal I am not trying to be on russians side or something, this is just what I observed and has nothing to do with my personal interest or any sort
Anyways maybe it’s not a good idea to argue over something that doesn’t really makes sense to us

@quasi tulip
yes
sorry for being late
but as i mentioned earlier
there are always shorter ways
here is something which you may do
user_input = input("Lets play rock paper scissors, what is your move?: ")
choices = [
"rock",
"paper",
"scissors"
]
choice = random.choice(choices)
print(f"I choose {choice}")
#when user chooses rock
if user_input.lower() == choice:
print("Tie")
elif user_input.lower() == "rock" and choice == "Paper":
print("I chose paper, I win")
elif user_input.lower() == "rock" and choice == "Scissors":
print("Rock smashes scissors, You win")
#when user chooses paper
elif user_input.lower() == "paper" and choice == "rock":
print("Paper covers rock, You Win")
elif user_input.lower() == "paper" and choice == "Scissors":
print("Scissors cuts paper, I win")
#when user chooses scissors
elif user_input.lower() == "scissors" and choice == "rock":
print("Rock smashes scissors, I win")
elif user_input.lower() == "scissors" and choice == "Paper":
print("Scissors cuts Paper, You Win")
user_input.lower() == choice
would be useful
and there can be other ways as well
gets rid of a third of the elif statements
to make it look better
user_input.lower() == choice
it gets rig of a third of them by removing all the tie statements
yeh
so you can make it look shorter abd better
also you can use numbers
example 0 for rock , 1 for paper
and so on
that would shorten it as ell
obv other experienced ppl in the server can make it more short i guess
AHHH nicee

@somber heath
We have assembly, C and Python as our fall semester courses.
wsg
we had LC3 (simple assembly) and then python. then next semester we learned c++
Yeah, but brain wreaking at the same time.
They taught us C first, then started to add python. Now, they are going to introduce assembly.
@glossy heart
Hello, lady.
camelCase - Only when writing wrappers around other things where camelCase is convention and when working in codebases that use it.
CapWords / PascalCase - Class names
snake_case - Variables, functions, methods, class instances
SCREAMING_SNAKE_CASE - Constants. Things that never and should never change. (think pi, the colour red, etc)```
send us a snap please.
@willow lynx
https://www.javatpoint.com/camelcase-in-python
Camelcase in Python with Python with python, tutorial, tkinter, button, overview, canvas, frame, environment set-up, first python program, operators, etc.
SQL injections!
Sounds cool!
Are you going to make another Pegasus?
Python Enhancement Proposals (PEPs)
I will look into it thoroughly. Thanks.
Most of us do not have the speaking permission.
You do not get that permission until you write 50 blocks of messages. @somber heath
You mean 50 bricks right?
Do you guys say blocks or bricks or does the server want to mean 50 lines of texts?
That is so confusing. Yes. What does 50 messages mean?
Don't try to minmax it. Just engage normally and try after three days of being on the server.
@trail tusk im on linux, i can stream
Text messages in most rooms.
It doesn't count messages in the #bot-commands room, for instance.
you just cant stream in this server
But most other rooms it does.
sudo nano /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
I enjoyed that until they started to break.
#WaylandEnable=false
For streaming permissions, ask a voice regular moderator/admin when they're already here and if they can spare the time to watch you, they may, at their discretion, decide to grant you the temporary permissions.
@jagged olive 👋
its fine, idk i want to hop but dont have the time currently haha
its somehow worse ubuntu lol
you can get a different terminal emulator
I tried every major Linux distros before coming back to Windows again.
I really love the way Linux updates its app, software and itself but there are always some possibilities of things going wrong in the first place.
I wish Linux were better in terms of stability. Do not care about gaming btw.
I love Linux.
it is stable ya, its unstable if you mess with it. if you want stable stable, debian
its not as fancy and stuff but it is STURDY
stay far from arch lol, its fun but its beta tester mode and arch users run the risk of dependency issues
steam is dumping fat money into KDE so they kinda are
in terms of DE
Do not. I guess only I have some problem with stability.
I had so many problems with software, availability of certain applications and hardware drivers.
oh if you mean like GUI applications, yea i mean most of them are for mac and windows and ported with little care for linux
like discord lol
I am sorry but what do you mean by that?
and teams
Discord Ubuntu was not detecting my mic and I installed an app by using the terminal. The next time, whole os broke.
@somber heath
Bye bye mate. It was nice to listen to you.
yea i dont have issues like that too much, but i have so i get waht yout saying
for a long time i had this thing where if i booted my pc 1/8 times my wifi would not be on so i had to reboot it lol
I think others can help you better than me. For instance, @torn kayak
but the dev environment is so good on linux i could never go back to windows
@broken knoll yooiiiiiiii\
no what?
Oh my that infamous wifi issue. Someone I know stopped using computer for a while because I installed ubuntu on her pc and she suffered a lot for that wifi issue.
It is ok. In which language are you comfortable with?
yea now tho my pc is stable dont really run into much issues
Meraba, efendi.
I did not use google translate.
I used to watch a lot of Turkish drama mainly because of its decent storytelling, the sound of the language itself and the amazing score/music.
I listen to turkish songs as well. Have some collections of music and songs btw! LOL!
Not movie. Drama series.

As long as you are intelligible you are fine.

The capybara or greater capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) is a giant cavy rodent native to South America. It is the largest living rodent and a member of the genus Hydrochoerus. The only other extant member is the lesser capybara (Hydrochoerus isthmius). Its close relatives include guinea pigs and rock cavies, and it is more distantly related...

No no
Went to a gas station to get windshield wiper fluid, right?
They didn't have any
And I don't mean they were out
There wasn't a spot for it
I've never been to a gas station that hasn't had any
It's like
That's gas station 101
That's all
Just had to get that off my chest
So fucking stupid
Service station
Gasoline

Although, fun fact
Petrol as a liquid isn't flammable
It has to become a vapor first
Fuel, ignition, heat
Oh right
I might have one of those wrong
I suppose
Yeah
Can't be too right of a mixture otherwise it won't ignite
@willow lynx How're you today?
You sure? Don't sound super fine
Fair enough
I guess I can't say anything, I'm so variable with my emotions it's hard to keep track sometimes
Yep
I stand by that
100%
Most animals just love being around them
While the capybara itself just looks done
"Oh good, more animals laying on me."
Well I think crocs like them
Or is it caiman ....
Can't remember, whatever is native to where they're at
Worlds largest rodent
Like a big ass guinea pig
Just a name
They eat them in Peru
They're called guinea pigs because of the little oinky noises they make
Like very tiny pigs
Interestingly, different families (or whatever tier of the animal kingdom thingy)
Rabbits are Lagomorphs
Not technically rodents
The guinea pig is. Closer to hamsters, gerbils, and rats than they are to rabbits
Hamster ^
Weird, can't find a good gerbil gif.
They're all just showing hamsters
Wait
Oh thought that was a hammy
Doesn't have the tail
Gerbils have tails
Hamsters have little nubs of a tail
I may or may not be obsessed with rodents
The US loves weird small pets
Yep!
Yep
Nocturnal
Where as guinea pigs are diurnal
@somber heath Oh god, the only gerbil gif I can find is Lemmiwinks
Hello
@rugged tundra Only if there's a few
@white geode Yo
Very
They're incredibly clever
More likely they'll find a way to avoid the trap
And cars
There's lots of ways
Cars aren't air tight
Not sure
They used the keys, probably
First thing that made me think of
Those bird feeders with motors that'll spin the thing if it has too much weight on it
Oh hold on
They'll let go
Eventually
Right?
It's weird
What was it... on average you're never more than 5 meters away from a rat?
Probably misremembering that stat
Fair
Spiders?
A street cat named Desire
It's a joke on the play "Streetcar Named Desire"
Movie?
Can't remember which

And that's how I found the pipe burst....
@kind mountain @keen temple 👋
The job may not recognize it as a holiday that you would get paid for
I don't
I think?
im so tired
Okay so looking at this list:
New Year's
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Memorial
Juneteenth
Independence Day
Labor Day
Veterans Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers brought the news of freedom to enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas — two months after the Confederacy had surrendered. That was also about 2 1/2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves in the Southern states.
I had to look it up
Because I keep forgetting
HA
You guys only say that because of Brexit
@somber heath Turns out being the boss sucks and is a lot of work
I wanted to live in Spain and work remote ;-;
And it sucks
Did I mention it sucks?
Being a boss

What kind of business?
