I recently had trouble with rhel's partitioning as well. I haven't looked into how they did it there but damn, backup tool needed X GBs to work based on the data size (even though the backup itself was smaller) and I had to cd to /var because /home didn't have enough space

I did mkdir /var/tmp_backup so that i wouldn't leave trash anywhere

I just checked my chat history. It wanted 106GB when resulting backup archive is 4GB.
/tmp had yet another partition with only 25GB free at that time

undefined behavior is when the spec explicitly says "if such and such occurs, the compiler is liable for nothing insofar as the antecedent behavior of the program" that is to say, one UB happens, a compliant compiler could make a program that does literally anything

for example assigning to the same variable twice within a sequence point is UB, so if you do that the compiler could make a executable that modifies your cpu's microcode so that when you reboot it it just prints the script of the bee movie over and over and over and it would still be a spec-compliant compiler
