It's rad for physics simulation, many engineering challenges to get there, but it is inherently confined to finite recursive problems. IMO it should be called "Quantum Accelerators", not "Computers", they can never run a job that lasts forever etc, there will never be a "quantum background service for Linux", etc.

People constantly claim that it's "replacing" something. It's not; it's adding something.

Also the distinction between quantum and classical is not that crisp; photosynthesis cannot be modeled with either one alone, only a hybrid

Also one of the main bottlenecks in QC is the microwave controller, right now we use the MOST EXPENSIVE FPGA boards ever, the same ones that cell carriers buy for 5G UWB towers

and the network bandwidth involved is nuts. A 1-qubit computer at 1MHz requires about half of the global peak Netflix network bandwidth, from a single server there next to the quantum computer.

Which is why we don't have a 1MHz quantum computer

That FPGA problem is one of the things I'm trying to solve with xotiq, all FPGAs currently waste 30 to 40% of their power imposing a "clock tree" on a thing that doesn't have any need to involve a clock

For me it seems highly accessible, but people just aren't choosing it anymore.

I use a few websites, but nothing that would make me cry if it went away, and everything else is under my direct control, I don't even use any "Cloud" infrastructure to run services etc. I feel like the modern world made that easier than ever.

The part where I definitely agree it's "inaccessible" though is the 5G wireless "baseband" problem. In the USA for example it's totally illegal to have an "open source 5G radio" connected to a cell carrier.

But that's been true from the start of the smartphone era, not a recent pivot.

If someone "needs" a "frontier" "AI" model, then yeah they are out of luck, but I certainly don't feel like I am in that situation.

The pyproject.toml is the file that defines the projects metadata, dependencies, and how it should be built and installed. It's the new modern way as opposed to the older setup.py files

Toml is just a language designed to be minimal

python imports are very similar to how an executable is found when you just enter its name in a terminal

(assuming a linux filesystem, on windows executables have .exe and whatever) when you run program in a terminal, the way it finds the actual program executable wherever it is (say, /usr/bin/program), is it goes over the directories specified in the PATH environment variable, and in each directory tries to look-up an executable with the name program. if its found - good, stop right away, if its not found in any of the directories - error

when you import module in python, it goes over the directories in sys.path, and in each directory tries to look-up a bunch of ways a module can be implemented:
module.py
a module directory (usually with a __init__.py, but actually works without it, though differently - see namespace packages)
a module.so or module.{cpython_abi}.so for compiled extension modules, in which it then looks for a function symbol PyInit_{module}
(it actually happens in a specific order but i dont know what the order is. but i do know that compiled extensions actually come before python ones, thats important for e.g. mypyc to "just work")
the code in this thing is then ran in a separate globals namespace and scope, and the resulting module is whats assigned to the module variable in the scope its imported from

well there is a python package in the core packages repository that you can install with pacman

but there is a small problem with it : when it gets updated and you run a global system package update, stuff like venvs made from your old install will break
its intended to be used by other programs, not for you to develop with
you probally already have it though and could use it right now

the "proper" way i'd say, to manage python on linux in general, is to use a python version manager like uv
then you just uv python install 3.14

the repo "is working" by you installing it as a package, which essentially copies the actual pyscroll directory with the code into the site-packages/ directory of your python install, so when your program does import pyscroll, python will eventually look for site-packages/pyscroll as site-packages/ is one of the things in sys.path
