The thing I eventually realized is that while programming is fun and profitable, inherently you are just a user of somebody who made the hardware. So I switched layers.

#

and then realized the hardware we have is awful, so I switched to the next layer down

#

and then I realized that the synthesis tools we have for hardware are also very wrong, so that's where I'm at now

#

You literally can't make an optimal chip the way we know is possible with Verilog, the thing everything is made with

#

But we don't care because the industry makes "enough" money to make the market happy

@dense oxide are you okay today?

#

People constantly claim that it's "replacing" something. It's not; it's adding something.

#

Also the distinction between quantum and classical is not that crisp; photosynthesis cannot be modeled with either one alone, only a hybrid

#

If plants don't care, I don't either, right?

simple bough
#

i must say that you really changed my view on the current scientific and technological progress, information from you feels borderline fake compared to what im used to, but at the same time it seems exactly like how it should be - well, progress. surely we havent just hit a wall at von neumann

dense oxide
#

Also one of the main bottlenecks in QC is the microwave controller, right now we use the MOST EXPENSIVE FPGA boards ever, the same ones that cell carriers buy for 5G UWB towers

#

and the network bandwidth involved is nuts. A 1-qubit computer at 1MHz requires about half of the global peak Netflix network bandwidth, from a single server there next to the quantum computer.

#

Which is why we don't have a 1MHz quantum computer

#

That FPGA problem is one of the things I'm trying to solve with xotiq, all FPGAs currently waste 30 to 40% of their power imposing a "clock tree" on a thing that doesn't have any need to involve a clock

#

Horrible

modest slate
#

Have you tried not paying them?

dense oxide
#

Yes, it's called "not able to access the articles", works great if that's your goal

#

...but, like, this paper is dank, I needed it:

#

Turns out time itself can be entangled, not just "particles"

#

Which utterly validates an intuition I had about "how it works"

#

I am going to write a very short book that IMO will cover all of the relevant ideas in math and physics from scratch, planned at the moment for only 24 pages. Working title is Physics for Player Characters.

#

There's a lot "less" going on than the 20th century managed to confuse us about, IMO.

#

Nature likes to reuse tricks

#

I won't be "adding" any ideas, just explaining them differently than crazy 800-page textbooks do

#

No need for "notation" or Greek letters etc

#

It all comes down to this revelation more or less, I feel: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landauer's_principle

Landauer's principle is a physical principle pertaining to a lower theoretical limit of energy consumption of computation. It holds that an irreversible change in information stored in a computer, such as merging two computational paths, dissipates a minimum amount of heat to its surroundings. It is hypothesized that energy consumption below thi...

#

The universe only has to "pay the Landauer tax" when we make it with our dumb sensors.

#

and we've now seen this in experiments many times, it's very real

#

Quantum is not "spooky" at all, it's classical that's spooky if anything is.

But it's not spooky either, more like "clumsy"

  • even if government allocates a budget of 100,000$, 20,000$ will get eaten up by the officials and they will hire a contractor for 80,000$ who will inturn hire another contractor for 40,000$ and the cycle goes on

I use a few websites, but nothing that would make me cry if it went away, and everything else is under my direct control, I don't even use any "Cloud" infrastructure to run services etc. I feel like the modern world made that easier than ever.

#

The part where I definitely agree it's "inaccessible" though is the 5G wireless "baseband" problem. In the USA for example it's totally illegal to have an "open source 5G radio" connected to a cell carrier.

#

But that's been true from the start of the smartphone era, not a recent pivot.

#

If someone "needs" a "frontier" "AI" model, then yeah they are out of luck, but I certainly don't feel like I am in that situation.

So bitcraft is just repo name and pyscroll is inside it?

#

And pyscroll has __init__.py

#

sly sun
#

So bitcraft is the owner / user. The repo is named pyscroll

#

Within that he has multiple folders for tests, docs, ci-cd

wet wing
#

So it's is pyscroll repo with a pyscroll folder in it?

sly sun
#

So the repo could have been named anything really, it's the pyproject.toml that configuers / defines the name of the tool

#

But obviously, having the repo name match teh tool name makes sense

atomic hearth
clear crest
#

got it for like 600$

#

It has an i7 (4 core 8 threads) and 16gb ram so i expect the other things to be nerfed 🫠

wet wing
#

I guess the folder is the one getting imported when I do
import pyscroll

sly sun
#

@wet wing

Yeah, the repository is named pyscroll , but that's actually irrelevant when you do import pyscroll.

The pyproject.toml is the file that defines the projects metadata, dependencies, and how it should be built and installed. It's the new modern way as opposed to the older setup.py files

#

Toml is just a language designed to be minimal

wet wing
#

Like markdown?

sly sun
#

Kinda yea, but not as "freeflowing" if that makes sense. Think of it more as a more readable json (more structure)

wet wing
#

Aah

#

So basically the folder(pyscroll) is getting imported through the project.toml thing

floral marsh
#

LOOK WHAT I FOUND PEOPLE

sly sun
#

Line 6: name = "pyscroll" -> this is what defines the name of the package: How you would import it import pyscroll
Line 34-36: Tells the builder where to look for the files

wet wing
#

Ohh

#

Ooooo ic

#

So basically when we import pyscroll the project.toml runs names the package and finds the file that needs to be run ✅

#

Aah thanks .Zai 🤎🤎

sly sun
#

In a sense. The pyrpoject isnt parsen when you import it, it's used by the build-system

#

To actually build the wheel / library as configured

#

Think of it as the configuration that the builder requires

"Where should I look, and what should I name it"

#

The build-system then builds the package and pypi distributes it

pyproject.toml # project.name -> distributable package name, the `pip` name, basically (so you can do `pip show {project.name}`)

  # src layout, special case - the python_package_name/ directory is whats "copied" to site-packages/

  # and ofcourse there is the weird possibility to just do
python_module_name.py # but that scales poorly, trashes the user's site-packages/ dir, and would often introduce collision, so normally you make a package and namespace the modules in it

# wet wing So basically when we import pyscroll the project.toml runs names the package and...

python imports are very similar to how an executable is found when you just enter its name in a terminal

(assuming a linux filesystem, on windows executables have .exe and whatever) when you run program in a terminal, the way it finds the actual program executable wherever it is (say, /usr/bin/program), is it goes over the directories specified in the PATH environment variable, and in each directory tries to look-up an executable with the name program. if its found - good, stop right away, if its not found in any of the directories - error

when you import module in python, it goes over the directories in sys.path, and in each directory tries to look-up a bunch of ways a module can be implemented:
module.py
a module directory (usually with a __init__.py, but actually works without it, though differently - see namespace packages)
a module.so or module.{cpython_abi}.so for compiled extension modules, in which it then looks for a function symbol PyInit_{module}
(it actually happens in a specific order but i dont know what the order is. but i do know that compiled extensions actually come before python ones, thats important for e.g. mypyc to "just work")
the code in this thing is then ran in a separate globals namespace and scope, and the resulting module is whats assigned to the module variable in the scope its imported from

# light basalt i kinda forget python when i dont practice

Python isn't about memorizing, when u learnt english or any other language did u memorize EVERY SINGLE word and it's meaning ? I hope not since that would be very inefficient and time-consuming, on the other hand, generally how people learn a language is by talking in it (which is implementing code)

#

So basically

And forgetting is okay

However if u are talking about "short term memory loss" it depends on the cause

that wouldn't be "memory loss" but inability to form memory. there is no memory to "lose" when you are just born

its impossible to say whats the single best one, the ones in !slorb are all good resources, you can pick any of them, see if you can go with this type of learning (book, lecture, course), continue if you find it good, switch if you dont

#

anyway how to donwload python on arch linux

#

😭

simple bough
#

but there is a small problem with it : when it gets updated and you run a global system package update, stuff like venvs made from your old install will break
its intended to be used by other programs, not for you to develop with
you probally already have it though and could use it right now

#

the "proper" way i'd say, to manage python on linux in general, is to use a python version manager like uv
then you just uv python install 3.14

Hello

simple bough
# wet wing So basically it searches from the present folder to each parent folder ig,and if...

the repo "is working" by you installing it as a package, which essentially copies the actual pyscroll directory with the code into the site-packages/ directory of your python install, so when your program does import pyscroll, python will eventually look for site-packages/pyscroll as site-packages/ is one of the things in sys.path

python imports dont "search from present folder to each parent folder", no.

Formatting code on Discord

Here's how to format Python code on Discord:

```py
print('Hello world!')
```

These are backticks, not quotes. Check this out if you can't find the backtick key.

For long code samples, you can use our pastebin.
