Gnaw on some wood for long enough and you might make one for pretty cheap
damn the expansion arrived already!
WHAT ?
He ordered Goo from Above and think it was Biome expansion.
i thought he talked about the new one my bad
Since the MOOD webstore has been restocked.
How could those possibly arrive when the Kickstarter hasn't even gone live?
no I thought he meant the kickstarter
bro really wants the new expansion
don't you ?
A bit.. maybe.
Im waiting on my game to get here which is everything but the goo from above for expansions
Where did you order from?
Is driller's sludge pump good in the board game? I have yet to try it but it seems pretty fun
Depends who you ask, some says it's the worst primary, some say it's overpowered..
Kinda like in the video game, funnily enough
Alright
Reckon you'll have to try it for yourself, figure out its pros and cons, and judge for yourself.
Mood has restocked its (european) warehouses. If I'm going to want to upgrade my collection - do I need the plastic tokens?
Or does it make sense to wait for the new kickstarter campaign?
The plastic tokens are basically the same as the cardboard tokens. Do you have a habit of breaking or losing your cardboard tokens? Then extras might be nice. But they're just replacements so not sure if you'd 'need' them.
As for waiting, depends if you want to wait until the expansions ship, in 10-11 months or whatever.
Ah no, if the cardboard ones are included I'm happy with them, thanks
I don't know - probably not. I guess they won't have much discount on the other expansions?
Do we eevn know when the campaign will be released?
There might be some discounted bundle, then again there might not. And you'd have to wait, so depends if you want to wait and see, while risking that things run out of stock, or if you want to get them now. We have no information on what's in the campaign, or when it starts. We can only guess.
I tought maybe you know something :D Okay, thanks!
Mission Generator app is back: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3512461/mission-generator-app-were-back-online
Man too bad I don’t have android
Why am I even saying this I don’t even have the board game
Yet
Cant wait for updates
I've had first and second edition for a while now but never got the STLs for first edition because it was a gift from someone who never sent me the files. I can't contact them anymore so I'm wondering if anyone can send me 1st edition STLs or something like that. not sure if its allowed but its worth asking.
Wouldn't be allowed, unless you contact MOOD and ask them, but doubt you have the receipt and whatnot? Could just buy the STLs if you really want them
Duck and Cover!
Does throwing a grenade at a praetorian or oppressor ignore resistance?
Only if you throw from the rear arc.
Thank you
For an impact axe I would agree, but what about an AOE grenade you could lob over its head? If you can reach a hex behind it with the throw, I would call it as hitting the weak point.
I do tend to interpret more like DnD sometimes, though.
The rules are written and intended for gameplay mechanics and balance. If AoE or certain weapons could ignore those resistances then they'd have to say they did, and not be left up to your imagination.
The mechanic is simple, as per the diagram your Dwarf has to be behind the target. There's nothing more to it, there's no deeper intent of a weak spot that can be hit from various other locations in imaginative ways. If that's how you want to play though then you're free to play as you want. The Hurricane launcher doesn't need LoS and can send rockets around corners, so have it ignore the resistances too. Breach Cutter and Coilgun shoots through objects, so have it hit the weak spot from the inside. Make up anything you like to remove an intended game mechanic, if you so prefer.
You know the game much better than I do. You've played more, and I respect your opinion a ton.
I don't think I'm avoiding a mechanic on this one. Here's where I'm coming from:
(I have only the base game, btw. I haven't read or played any further into the expansions. I also Don't know how to tell which edition of the rulebook I have. Mine says Copyright 2022.)
Pgs 18-19 - Throwables - "Your line of sight is only blocked by walls." So I can throw over stalagmites, creatures, etc.
Two throwables, the corrosive bomb and the phosphor grenade, have a throwing range of 4 and AOEs that extend backward toward the dwarf throwing them.
Would you still consider it against the spirit of the rules to throw those two grenades over top of a creature, allowing it to explode behind and hit the weak spot?
The creature card does say "Resistance ignored when attacked from behind" for both the praetorian and oppressor. I guess I see throwing the source of the damage behind the enemy as satisfying that.
Again, you are much, much closer to this than I am, and I respect your take on things. I'm asking in the spirit of playing the game the way it's meant to be played. If I'm breaking the game, I want to stop and play as the designers balanced it. Your point there is well taken.
The point of having an arc on the resistances is that you have to get behind the creature to remove the resistances. That's the whole idea, that you have to tactically position yourself along with other Dwarves so that the creature turns toward the closest one and the others can then shoot the back, or to have to move behind as to attack.
Corrosive Bomb also can't be resisted.
Mostly I think it's against the spirit of the rules since there's not a single reference or example of it being allowed. Your Dwarf is where the attack originates.
I personally also don't like giving the Dwarves an advantage, if there's anything that's not clear I try to interpret in a way that the Dwarves have to deal with it and take it into consideration themselves, instead of use it to their advantage (which feels like an exploit). Being able to lob throwables or use some very specific weapons to negate the resistance arcs just doesn't sit well with me for that reason.
Nice!
If only there were options for Biome Expansions. Nonetheless its a cool way to generate "random seed" if you can call it that way
There is.....
You have to enable them in preferences.
Okay, I completely missed those options. Thanks then.
I wonder how many people from my country even bought the board game. The video game as itself is popular and good known, but on the other hand - the board game - probably wasn't that popularized
Only data we'd have to go on I reckon is the Kickstarter campaigns, beyond that though the game's been available in various online stores, and some other campaigns (like Valheim).
From the original campaign (the expansion campaign had those numbers cut in half basically):
boardgames in general are not that popular
Maybe because most of them needs irl people to play.
Of course there are sites like TTS but its not the same anymore.
Deep Rock has a option to play solo but I would still prefer to play with a friend
Well.. I will only guess that I am from one of those few who are lucky to having physical copy of the game.
I know I know, everyone could buy it from the store but you would have to still spend some money on this
I mean... yea, they can't give out millions of free physical copies xD MOOD have graciously allowed (and supported) the game being available on Tabletop Sim, beyond that though there's no 'luck' involved really, the game is still available even though periodically, even if you were to find the game today and it's sold out it's still returning occasionally.
Sure, at some point they might stop producing it, but that goes for I dunno 99% of games or something.
need to bring people together, need space to play, need space to store and inconvenient to move around
and anything big gets expensive fast
Yeah, forgot to mention that too
And expensive means it's more likely to be people with bit more money, ie adults, who have less time to play xD
yup
I agree. And maybe not luck as you say but its still uncommon
A sad part of reality
Meanwhile, nearly done painting my new Cryo Driller
Yup one of many
Where would the files for these custom minis be?
Nevermind I found quite a few on cults
The base models are in the PAK file of the video game, in your DRG steam install directory. Takes a fair amount of work to turn them into printable models (at least posed ones).
I would assume you would need to pose them in blender and then export them as an STL?
How did you get the custom outfit? Does it store your current character model with your outfit
No all the models are separated in the files, you have to find all the different parts you want to assemble and put them together. The armour is the Dwarf minus the head, so you have to add the head, any facial hair you might want, headgear, weapon, etc.
And with extra work you can combine different armours, or equipment even. Like taking the trousers and boots from one armour, and the chestpiece from another, arms from a third...
My Colonial Dwarves Scout for example has trousers and boots from one armour, shinguards from another, pouches and magazines from another, chestpieces from yet another, same with shoulderpads.. All parts from DRG except the carbine's housing which I custom made, but the rest of the weapon is cobbled together from different weapons.
I'm too poor for the boardgames 😭
Only a select few have been endowed with that power.
This is why you should mine gold
I like
How much does it cost?
$81 and up
I thought it was worse.
Well that's the standard edition with cardboard standees. Deluxe with miniatures costs $150 something, and that's for the base game. There are also two large expansions that're like $100 each, and a few small ones at $35.
Plus addons/extras, so if you want everything it's gonna be a buncha money.
They caught the Games Workshop disease (also called money)
More that there's a whole lot in the game that can be turned into board game stuff.
Board games are not a cheap hobby in general
Yup
Like?
All the different missions that have extra models that have to be turned into miniatures/tokens, all the different enemies, different biomes and all their hazards/objects. List goes on. You can't cram the entirety of DRG into one single package and still have it be cheap, nor small. Expansions were inevitable, and the base game is reasonable in cost and size compared to other board games.
Gamenerdz is officially my least favorite company
Probably wouldn't even have heard of em over here if they didn't offer preorders :/
There are so many high quality miniatures in this game. Getting just the minis by games workshop price would be well over the board game price
part of me wishes that the minis had to be put together by us, would be fun (at least in my experience)
I think so too. But you also have to paint them?
Have to? No. You can keep them as unpainted grey plastic if you prefer.
"You can". Sorry I'm not very good at english
You can paint anything really. Even if they were prepainted you can paint them again as you prefer.
Yep, though I painted mine since I wanted to get better at painting (and also make the minis look good)
I'd prefer to have them painted. I'm too broke to afford to commission an artist, and too broke to afford paints. Grey plastic minis for me for now.
I was thinking to paint my "Steeve's" and come up with this
Make sure to remove mold lines, I regretted not doing that later
Kinda gives me an idea for a miniature one could place on the swarm deck, instead of the pile-up card.. hmm
which mold lines? Maybe I know which ones but I'm not certainly sure
that is a cool idea
Bit off the topic but I have a homerule that when using steeve card then grunt/slasher becomes a pernament pet that have 1 action of turret's turn
And hes ofc attacked by other creatures
I use the same homerule because the bug should remain pernament as in the version of video game, so you're not the only one
uhoh
Anyone who preordered from GameNerdz or Game Steward, make sure to doublecheck your orders...
Hearing someone was sent a 1st ed..
Does scout ignore the lava rivers damage rule because he has grapple gun?
Unless he ends his movement in the lava.
Or wants to warm his feetsies for some reason
Thanks
Man thats crazy
at least they actually got something
Double check what? That the right edition was ordered?
That you receive 2nd ed.
Ah
If I end up receiving a 1st ed after waiting months for my order im going to be so angry
Else something dodgy is going on. The preorders on Gamenerdz and Game Steward were for 2nd ed, and people have waited months after a delay from February. How they can send 1st ed is just mindboggling.
When versing the tyrant weed do all 4 regen on activation or only one of each type?
Everything
Do the surviving plants die when the core dies like in the main game?
Yup
Talking about Korloc... Is it worth buying?
From my experience if you want a risk of total team annihilation its worth bying
It don't have to wipe your team because its a stationary enemy still. When you have objective there it can be difficult, I know, but you can still shoot and dodge (move to hide behind wall) and of you're a scout that should be a lot easier
Yea, I just mean it diffocult to kill to it can take a lot of swarm trackers
That too
Also I don't remember how it works. Do shooting vines and healing pods spawn after killing them?
And I wanted to compare it to bulk that he is more lethal but taking to consideration everything that I said above they can both be dangerous
I only remember one encounter with Korloc. Me and my friend were playing TTS version of the board game and we were at the moment we have done our tasks. One small problem was that the way to drop pod was covered in enemies. So we come up with the idea to make shortcut through unrevealed cave, but in the same moment when we digged to that cave it appeared that it was Korloc and because of that we dropped that idea and got back to original way through
If you have the money to spend and want some extra variation in the game, sure. I've enjoyed the Korlok, only failed once against it and that mission was already pretty much doomed, with Dwarves going down, running out of ammo, being overrun, etc. Trying to escale into a hidden cave for some breathing room and it was the Korlok xD
They respawn on activation, if they're not present. Else they shoot/heal.
Bit later but I've marked them here, basically just look at the sides of their legs
Aaaaah
I know what you mean
So what can I do with them? Scalp them off with scalpel?
Sandpaper, a file, scrape with a knife. It'll likely take some practice though, so start with some creatures you're not too worried about. If you do unintended damage you can fix it with some modeling putty, like green stuff or milliput. I personally also use a lot of liquid green stuff (you paint it on with a brush, after it hardens you can sand/file it).
Or, just leave the mould lines. Usually it only bothers more experienced model makers/painters.
Thing is you may end up doing more damage than the mould lines if you try to remove them.
Okay, I'll take that advice, thanks.
I can try on normal grunt just for testing but for me it don't bother me that much
Also PVC like on these models can 'fray', so that you get strands of material when you sand it.. and 'grabby' ie your knife may take an unintended path when you cut it. So takes extra work to get them looking nice.
I usually go over it with several different grains of sandpaper, as well as a knife, and then mostly end up putting on some liquid green stuff at the end to smooth out the surface. Really depends how much work you're willing to put in for what result/looks.
For now, it's enough for me to paint it with colors, shade and additional details but we will see
personally I've done a bit of practice with removing mold lines with some Space Marines from warhammer 40k as well as this witch and cauldron minis that came with a paint set. The main thing for me was simply to be careful about how much you cut away, as its easy to accidentally cut too much (like I did with the cauldron, accidentally cut off a piece I thought was leftover from making the mini that was SUPPOSED to attach to the base, so I ended up having to use plastic glue to stick it onto the base instead.)
Thing is GW minis and the likes are made from styrene, it's harder so you can just scrape instead of cut. And easier to file/sand as well, you get a cleaner surface. Gotta be more careful with PVC
if you scrape a styrene mini you get a clean surface, but if you scrape PVC your blade/implement will often jump up and down, so you get a jagged edge. So yeah you have to actually cut rather than scrape, and then you're slicing away material. Lot harder to control
I really didn’t bother except with the most obvious lines
If you wash/dry brush, ESPECIALLY with dry brushing, the lines become incredibly obvious, but if you don't care the minis still look fine
Do you get molly in the standard edition
Nope, just deluxe
How can you play without molly ? (I dont own the board game but it seems very very different from the DRG I know)
Molly is more like an accessory. Shes not a figure you place on the board and that has game mechanics, but just a model you place next to the board and put minerals inside.
Makes a cool noise when you put minerals inside her tho
Same way you play on-site refinery or point extraction, you deposit into a minehead.
Ohh thats cool!!
Hello Miners!
Question: Are you supposed to reshuffle and refill Event and Swarm Deck in between Deep Dive missions?
Rule that "if you run out of Event Cards - reshuffle the deck" suggests that you don't, since it is impossible to pull that of without failure due to Threat Track
If you follow that logic for other decks and reshuffle them only when needed - what about Swarm Deck then
If you use variant "Overwhelming Odds", you draw cards until you run out of Swarm Deck then mission fails, but this is after threat track reached the end.
So if you are missing a swarm card when track is not at the end, can you reshuffle swarm deck as well, or is the Deep Dive a failure?
You set up each mission during a deep dive as if it was a new mission, with the exception of keeping ammo/health etc. Decks get shuffled and tokens replaced etc.
Else you also couldn't get the same enemies, that'd be silly.
in that case running out of Event Cards is impossible, so why would that rule exist?
It used to be possible to run out of swarm threat advancing cards (due to how the deck was built in earliest versions), and still might be in theory. I'd have to doublecheck, but there's close to the same number of swarm threat advancing cards as there are swarm threat spaces.
It's also simple future-proofing to add a shuffle mechanic, else if special rules or additional R&S cards are added for example it might suddenly be possible to run out of event cards and end up in a locked game.
in base game edition 2nd
there is 21 cards that advance track, two of them advance it by up to two, and there are some optional advances + 5 mission specyfic events. There is 20 spaces if you use Threat Level 1
And from memory there's one R&S card that allows you to ignore an event card.
Beyond that, you're not forced to play with the exact deck that comes with the game, so the reshuffle mechanic allows you to alter your deck, if you want to play a statistically slowed game with less swarm threat advancing cards.
thats true, but there is just one. so it's quite rare to come by
If we agree to use non standard rules/deck, then we can also assume that my logic/interpretation is also correct and we shuffle them when needed :D
I would like to know how it should be using default listed rules, as the founding dwarves intended :D
If you don't shuffle the swarm deck during a deep dive you would risk running out of swarm cards, so then what? Only overwhelming odds says the game ends if you run out of swarm cards, so if you don't play with that optional rule, what then? Just no swarms anymore? Or you can shuffle it during play, but then only fail on overwhelming odds if the swarm threat is on its last spot.
Entirely up to you, but to me it seems logically clear that you shuffle the decks.
well, yes
but both ways you described are correct according to the rulebook
correct meaning they are neiter contradicted or specified
that is if we assume that this interpretation of "overwhelming odds" is correct
But the simplest solution is to shuffle the decks before a mission, then there are no issues to solve. If your interpretation runs into a heap of issues to solve, then it seems more logical to just go with the simple solution.
Overwhelming odds is an optional rule that was added in 2nd edition, it didn't use to exist.
was it then stated that if you run out of Swarm cards you loose, outside of "Overwhelming odds"?
No. Hence it seems logical to shuffle the deck before each mission, else you can barely even attempt a deep dive without shuffling when there's only 13 swarm cards in the base game.
there is 13 swarm cards and max 6 swarms per mission(excluding double activation event)
you won't be forced to reshuffle until 3 mission
at the same time it is not much of a difference either you shuffle or not
-if you reshuffled you won't run out of cards before time is out
-if you didn't you also won't run out of them, cuz you can reshuffle
it only makes a difference if you play with "OO"
It will make statistical difference as to what you encounter in the different missions, if you exclude cards you drew in the first mission. Entirely up to you though.
true
it is a difference between each mission "script" and whole Deep Dive "script"
hence the question :D
Also, normal mission setup still applies according to the rules, since the deep dive campaign rules are the exceptions.
Normal rules say you shuffle the decks, and there's no specific exception that you don't shuffle the decks under deep dives. So there's that I suppose.
but there is also note that you can write down the dwarves status and rusume the Deep Dive at later time
if you go with Deep Dive "script" - you would also need to keep the order of the decks, but this seems like a lot of a hassle
so reshuffling (mission script) makes more sense
still this doesn't explain existence of "reshuffle events if you run out" rule for me :D
Says nothing about keeping the order of the decks, only that the dwarves keep the cards they have.
You said there were 20 swarm threat increasing cards, so if both bugs bugs bugs cards hit right before a swarm, and you ignore one with a R&S card, then you can't move the swarm threat off the last space to lose the game. Wouldn't that be reason enough?
Because if you stay in the cave during that mission, and don't pick the optional swarm threat increasing options, then you also run out of event cards.
would be but
it is only true for hazard level 1 (which makes sense that it is difficult to fail it)
and, my bad, I made an edit - there is 21 and 5 mission specific events which advance threat for some missions
but yea I see the point it is technically possible to run out of events before you run out of time. even though very unlikely, in case it happens the rule is there
I am excited about any and all the new board game expansions, so much so that I've finally decided to start painting the minis. I don't have a lot of time to paint because I have five kids, but I've found enough here and there to finish the original 18 grunts, the stalagmites and the 2 slashers. Just finished the slashers today!
wow that's really cool !
Base was brown, wet wash was black, dry brush was tan. These colors were chosen to make it look like a dirty/earthy rock with sharp corners.
Thank you!
You've been a source of inspiration @bitter hinge, thank you for everything you've shared with me! I still have it all saved to reference.
They look good, I like that they get brighter at the top and are dark at the bottom
thank you !
they were supposed to look better I shouldn't have made a zenithal, it made the color look weirds
Those ROCK
...
...
and stone
Finished my first webspitter !
I love your painting style!
Thank you !
I gotta admit that it look worse in real life
I almost never paint minis
If I find time the webspitters and warden are next on my list (since they use some overlapping colors).
You've done great work with the highlights.
I'm taking notes
thank you very much !
spitter are really fun to paint
(except the underside, i've honestly just done a shade)
Some pics of a full DRG day I did with my buddies about a month ago (colorized).
I spent a solid two weeks painting a boatload of miniatures in preparation, close to 20 minis painted in that time.
Those little inserts look great, where do you get those? I'd love to better organize the pieces like this!
They are 3D printed inserts. The ones in the image you took are these ones: https://www.printables.com/model/434426-deep-rock-galactic-the-board-game-organizer-v1-del
Those are for the base game. I also designed some Space Rig/Biomes inserts too:
https://www.printables.com/model/987327-space-rig-and-biomes-expansions-organizers-deep-ro
I know what I'm doing when I get home tonight. Thanks!
could you make one for the second edition base game?
I don't have the second edition trays, so I can't make designs based on that. The first edition base game trays are not mine anyway.
I have an idea for a homebrew upgrade
Sawn-off: -2 range +2 bullet dice
What do you think?
could work, only thing I would change is adding a clause that prevents weapon range from being lowered below 1
Oh yeah, forgot about breach cutter
Jury Rigged boomstick is also at range 2. You'd be making a bucketload of weapons range 1. Beyond that though, careful so you don't turn stuff OP.. consider a minigun with 6 bullet dice, range 3.
or 5 bullet dice, one AP die
Counterpoint: +1 piercing die
Number of dice gives you versatility of hit assignment.
uh.. what?
Any weapon that doesn't specify that it's single target use can assign damage to separate targets..
I thought every other weapon was single target unless specifically mentioned otherwise!
Nope. Other way around.
Well that clears this up quite a bit
Very few weapons are single target
So gk2 on full auto can hit 2 targets?
Do they have to be adjacent or just withing range and LoS?
Ah
Best you read the hit assigning rules
it's explained in detail there
But to answer briefly, yes adjacent to eachother (you 'walk' the shots over), and LoS. Very few weapons are allowed to ignore LoS
I see
So what if instead of -2 range we say something like "gun's range is halved, rounded up"
So it doesn't completely ruin short range weapons and makes it more fair on something like the shard defractor or minigun
I reckon it'd work specifically on already short range weapons, since you don't have much to lose. At least personally I pick long range weapons for their range, and wouldn't reduce it with an upgrade
Few exceptions of course, for specific missions
Yeah. My friends just like using weapons like the minigun as a shredder for large enemies so a drawback like that for this upside is something I think they'd like it
I made it as part of a set of 6 upgrades so there would be 16 total and everyone could potentially get full upgrades in a deep dive if we're lucky and not run out of them.
Suggestions on how to balance them are welcome
Toxic coating - until the dwarf's next turn, whenever a hit enemy is activated, it takes 1 damage after taking its action
Bending shots - no LoS required. Still requires an unblocked path within range to the target
Refund - if you completely miss a shot, roll the mineral die. On a gold result, get back 1 ammo of the weapon you used
Brain freeze- on hit, turns a stunned enemy frozen. If the weapon already stuns an enemy, it freezes them instead
Adrenaline rush - can move an additional tile if you take a move after attacking with this weapon
I would balance Toxic Coating to make it so that it only deals the 1 damage a single time, after the next event card is resolved, essentially giving the weapon a mini Sludge-Pump effect. The way you have it listed, an enemy could take up to 4 damage from the effect which seems a bit too powerful for a weapon upgrade
the others seem fine to me
Ok. I thought it would be balanced because it leaves the chance for you to kill an enemy in the luck of the draw, but your version does make more sense
How about instead of toxic coating, lucky shot
When you attack with this weapon, roll the mineral die. On a gold result, double the result of one other die
I agree with what Sonvek said regarding Toxic Coating. The rest;
Bending shots would be overpowered for certain weapons. The few weapons that don't require LoS are balanced as such, but consider for example a Shard Diffractor that ignores LoS, or a M1000.
Refund basically means some weapons won't use ammo, but extra actions. Consider it for the Subata, free action shots that don't use ammo if they miss... means it always hits. Overclocked bulldog with x2 upgrade, you'll do 2-4 damage and freeze, or not spend ammo. Shooting is balanced around spending ammo, and while there's a weapon that has this mechanic having it usable by every weapon breaks it.
Brain Freeze - Freezing is very powerful, having it accessible to all weapons, even if through having to use an extra upgrade to unlock it, makes some of them excessively powerful. Consider for example the Hurricane launcher, with both that upgrade and stun. Suddenly you're able to freeze everything in an massive area. Or minigun for that matter, specifically so because you can freeze with one ammo, and then continue firing for 4 more, putting out massive damage.
Adrenaline Rush - Keep in mind the Scout. That's basically one of the gear upgrades from Spacerig Expansion, which recommends using mutators to balance out gear when playing stand-alone missions.
this just sounds like the x2 upgrade with extra steps
oh i completely forgot that one exists
i agree with you on toxic coating and bending shots.
refund is still a 1 in 3 of getting the ammo back, so on the subata it's a 1 in 9 and overclocked it's 1 in 27 of getting a free shot, and it goes down the chance goes down more if you take an extra damage upgrade
as for the rest, in my friends group, we mostly do deep dives so we treat the game more like a roguelike where you set up builds and become stronger as you go further and the game becomes harder. so i leaned into the idea of minor buffs that become extra powerful with the right build for the satisfaction of getting just the right upgrades
that makes more sense, though for standard gameplay those effects can be gamebreaking
you also need to consider the odds of getting in a standard game both the stun upgrade and the freeze stun upgrade
But Subata won't miss, is the point. You use ammo, if you hit, you've used ammo and hit. If you miss, it's refunded, and you can shoot again, until you hit. Then the ammo is used. It's be a guaranteed hit weapon if you don't overclock it.
Upgrades can be traded if not applied when picked up. With tactics like these in mind you can easily just save the upgrades and always get the combo you want.
not "garunteed" since you only get the ammo back if you roll Gold result on the mineral die, but its still a good chance
its not exactly the effect of overclocked zhukovs
ok fair yea
Forgot that while typing it all out
Could also just buy the plastic tokens and have 2 of each upgrade I suppose, easy solution xD
true, that would also mean stacking the same upgrade is possible. Imagine Engi's grenade launcher with 2 +Explosive Die upgrades
Eh it's already just about as good if you get explosive and AP dice.
2 x2
yea, since the only difference between AP and Explosive is that the miss is now fear
The game already has some really powerful combinations.
Which is also why the upgrades are limited. Point during deep dives is to actually give up upgrades, for health and ammo. Having access to even more upgrades would reliably let people do that.
Slightly off topic, any news on when we'll receive the new cards?
I know this may be a stupid question but, are the DRG board game's expansions still available for purchase anywhere?
Thank you.
I didn't get to the warden but I am quite happy with how the web spitters came out.
Hey quick question that doesn't seem to be covered in the rulebook. Does the Oppressor spawn on it's front or back hexagon?
It uses its front one to move/count distance from, so would stand to reason that you place it on its front one if possible so it doesn't get an extra movement. However since it's not specified that it would destroy terrain when spawning, and the game designer has stated in the FAQ that it can turn around for free, so even if it has to spawn on its front tile and the Dwarves are behind it, it would turn for free and then move, still getting said free movement.
I'd place it on the front tile and facing the Dwarves if possible.
yooo they look so coool
I love them you nailed the color
The warden was quite difficult, but I think the result is good enough. The model has a bit "extra" compared to the game.
Hitting that nice off white shell is also difficult
Yeah, I ended up base coating it white AND drybrushing it white, yet it still feels like it wasn't enough.
Maybe a silly question, but sometime in the last two years I've lost track of the STL download from the original Kickstarter. Is there a way to download them still? I looked on KS and Backerkit, but couldn't find a link. Hopefully I won't have to go back through two years of archived email lol
You will have to email MOOD at support@moodpublishing.com
could also search for emails from MOOD publishing in your archive
Yup, found em. My phone doesn't save emails from that long ago, but the provider's website had it. Thanks!
ohp. There was an error with the supported version, I must've downloaded that ages ago and their server remembers. Well, I can probably trust Cura's support generation right?
no clue, I was not a backer of the original kickstarter, only the expansions
i think Johnno was an original backer, maybe ask him?
Fair enough. Well, I recently got into mini painting and decided I wanted to finally get around to painting my dorfs, but also 3d print some of them (especially the terrain) for practice and spare scenery.
nice! The bugs and dwarves will be a change of pace for me, a friend inflicted the mini painting hobby on me by gifting me a box of necrons for my birthday so I'm used to just washing everything down with shiny metallics lmao
ahh
the dwarves use some metallic, mainly Driller and Gunner, but a little on scout and engi as well
plus some of the minis that are DRG equipment, like BOSCO, the Resupply pod, and the M.U.L.E
and the pumpjacks
doretta
I'm considering using metallic on the rocks, then tinting over it with a thin coat of some color. If it works out it'll be a glittery crystal (worthless, but fun to destroy!)
I used metallic then either blood red or sand golem from the Armypainter Speedpaints 1.0 line to create little Nitra and Gold pieces in the small bits of rock protruding out from the stalagmites
ooh, good idea. I only have leadbelcher and balthazar gold as far as metallics go, but that's part of why I want to 3d print the rocks and stones - I'm thinking I can mix one of those metallics with a different color, or layer it on top of them, to get a glitter effect.
if you have a red contrast or acrylic from citadel, you can layer that on top of the metallic after it dries to create a similar effect (heavily thinned if using red acrylic)
for the nitra
for the gold you would use an yellowish-orange color
or Retributer Armor, if you ever pick up that metallic
Thanks for the tips. I'm still very new to the painting stuff, haven't used a brush since high school lmao
im fairly new myself, only been painting since the start of last year
im only recently using acrylics more since I made myself a wet palette
I've been using a bit of wax paper on top of a damp paper towel and honestly it seems to work pretty well
oh thats basically mine
a bunch of paper towel in a tupperware container with a single sheet of parchment paper on top of that
ooh fancy, it's in a tupperware. Mine's on a paper plate 😂
hey if it works it works
I'm getting together with some friends at the end of the month and they specifically requested we play the DRG board game. I definitely won't have the whole set painted by then, but I want a couple of show pieces at least. What color primer do you think is best? Black looks great on my necrons, but I don't think it would do as well for dwarves or bugs...
I used white when I painted my DRG minis because I was almost solely using contrast paint at the time, which works best with white or other bright colors, but if you are using mostly acrylic then pretty much any color primer should work
if you have a bunch of different primer colors, then its a good idea to prime a mini using a color that you know covers the majority of the mini to save some time not having to paint a specific color (outside of fixing mistakes)
These guys were surprisingly fun to paint!
Lookin' good!
I can't believe I only have three left in the first container. Just doing a couple every day really flies by!
You've saved the best for last in the tray. I enjoyed the Mactera but they were bit of a pain for me cause I picked colours I didn't have, so had to custom mix all of them xD
I hear ya. My paint set has 10 colors. The webspitters were entirely custom because I didn't have any pink nor purple. And yet they're my favorite so far!
Not shabby at all. The green should suit the mactera well though I think, and whatever you choose for the wings. I painted mine blue.
I'm planning on the wings being a light blue with white highlights. Guess we'll see how it works out!
Picture from today's game (they are all at spawn exit)
this is fine
As long as it's scout's turn (or soon), he'll be fine xD
Yeah, he escaped that situation but on later turn he died in front of a drop pod. These two "Bowling balls" caught him at the end of a game.
On the side note: Q'ronar is the only monster with movement 5. The rest of the enemies have 3 or none so he is very lethal when he activates
I painted a slasher and another slagmite ! Do you guys have any advices ?
Some contrasting colours perhaps to make them stand out more. But I reckon they look good.
yeah that's what i thought, the mouth is too pale and don't have enough contrast
Mouth and skin, or could brighten the claws instead perhaps
Macteras are hard to paint but insanely rewarding. Heck yeeeees
First box complete! Woo
Somehow I don't think we're getting the true color in your picture.
I'm just learning how to paint, but here's how I did mine
For just learning how to paint, those look great!
Fleshy blob of glyphid reproduction: check
Wait thats how the big ones spawn too ? What are the eggs for then...
I love your attention to the lore, I'm the same way! That said, consider this: the DRG board game doesn't have swarmers - likely due to scale and inability to balance according to health and damage values - so the grunt is the weakest creature on the board, and the brood nexus spits out the weakest creature.
Ohhh I understand!!
Although it would make sense for grunts to appear like this too, due to the sheer amount of them compared to the eggs we collect
I always felt like the swarmers were you g grunts and the eggs were maybe for Pletorians or Opressors
they look so good
yours look more lore accurate i just like to take some artistics liberties
So did anyone else on their orders direct from mood ship the main board game separately
finished painting blood rage, back to DRG
think this is turning out quite well
going to hit the tentacles with a brown-purple or red
You got nice contrast between colors which gives it solid depth! Curious to see what more you do to it.
I was unsure about putting a "birthing liquid" effect on the grunt but you've done a great job!
used a mix of oozing vomit and disgusting slime by army painter
base done and varnished, onto the next
the contrast with the glowy bits is crazy. A bit more green than I‘d like but still
Gah
They look very good. Do you mind asking how did you paint those?
Hey thanks. The crazy part is that it was actually pretty simple! Three different spots got three different treatments:
WINGS
- White base coat
- Blue dry brush
BELLY
- Red base coat
- Yellow dry brush
BODY/CARAPACE
1a. Green base coat
1b. Red in mouth cavity
2. Black wet wash
3. Very light green dry brush
That's all! I don't have fancy colors, specialty brushes or anything like that. Just a bit of patience and a desire to make it look nice.
Edit: oh and I paint the bottom rocky area of all my miniatures a solid black to help the creature stand out. I know a lot of people paint the rocks, but it comes down to personal preference I think.
Oi guys, Do you have any suggestions how to paint glowing pillars and cryo bulbs from biome expansion? I was trying to do this by myself but I don't have a clue what paints I should use that would be fitting perfectly for something that has a glowing effect, and for something that is cold and icy.
something that I heard for making icy glows, is to let white do some of the heavy lifting for it
like base white then dry brush cyan / blue
that's what i did for my ice grunt
prime white paint the shadow blue and violet a
this goes for any glowing effect
you simply want the glowing area to be brighter than the rest of the model
the brightest value is always white, and you can mix white into any color
What kind of colors should I use for painting miniatures?
miniature paints
look for brands like army painter, vallejo, two thin coats
pro acryl is another one
My limited color palette made it difficult to get the colors I wanted for the spitball infectors, but I'm pleasantly surprised by how they match the rest of my painted set.
Your darkened highlighted tentacles inspired me and I made a similar adjustment, I am VERY pleased with the difference. Thank you for sharing your process!
Colour choices look great to me, I often prefer muted colours myself. Well done!
wouldn‘t necessarily say that I tried to darken them, the opposite actually
but giving them a different color definitely helps the miniature pop more either way
I mean to say, you gave special attention to the tentacles and it made a great difference.
Thanks, it looks very nice on your paintjob too
finished my mactera spawns
I know I‘m using speedpaints but these were lightning quick to paint haha
army painter plasmatic bolt worked well on the wings
these look good too, currently struggling with how to paint mine
might actually recoat mine and just follow yours
That's a fantastic color scheme you've accomplished! Nicely done, and great touch with the rock and ground.
What primer do you guys do, spray or airbrush?
None if I'm lazy, else Army Painter spray can.
I usually use black, have a light brown that I had for one project that I'm also using up
Ok
I primed a mini white with the army painter spray, let it dry for quite a while and when I touched it the primer was soft and I got finger prints on it, idk why though.
You probably sprayed it on way too thickly. Usually only needs an hour drying time, then again humidity etc could play a role too that it dries slower
Ok. Prolly too thick, I was doing a space marine and I had to do lots to get everything, should switch to airbrush
A lot of people will use white to ensure colors are vibrant, others will use black to get the deepest shadows. I went a middle ground with grey to go either direction as needed.
I have always preferred spray primer over painting it on. It's far more even when sprayed, and faster too.
Doesn’t airbrushing do the same as spray primer but with more control and thinner application?
yes airbrush primer is "better" but it also requires an airbrush
I believe he was referring to literal paint on primer, not airbrush primer
Thanks Tiberius, yes that's what I meant. I don't own any fancy stuff like airbrushes, but if I did, I'd absolutely use it quite a lot!
the only thing I know about airbrushes is that they fumigate the house and the only time you need them they'll be broken or clogged
I've heard that airbrush primer isn't as strong as rattle cans, but still does a good job
As in wear and tear.
Ok
I can confirm that. And they make your room stink.
whenever I pull out my airbrush the needle doesn't want to pull back, so I have to try fixing my airbrush, while it's full of paint, as I forgot to check that it worked before pulling it out
The coat is thinner, and there is less "varnish" in the paint even when using dedicated primers, but as long as you are keeping the sausage fingers off the models they are fine. The coat is a lot smoother.
Just clicking…
Anything I should do?
Nothing seems wrong
Pretty sure I’m fine
Like I didn’t put in any info
Setup two factor authentifivation
Hopefully you'll be good
Are the miniatures in this board game resin printed? or a different technique
The ones that come in the game box are PVC injection molded.
Ah okay
thanks
was doing some research on 3d printers and thought that resin looked a lot like the drg miniatures
Kickstarter for the new expansions is revealed!
how can you say that but not link it tho ?
looks like the caretaker mini is 3 spaces big, like the dreadnought
has been confirmed
HELL YEAH
MOOD TAKE ALL MY MONEY
I DON'T NEED IT ANYMORE
Now that I’m married I have the added bonus of convincing my wife that the $350 Canadian dollars are worth it..
No collector's edition? 😛
Its on the list for when my main board game arrives
New Horrors of Hoxxes looks interesting. I like that Mood is experimenting with new concepts - like how they created the stingtail, which was then adapted into the video game - and this next round of expansions is introducing new creatures again.
Some kind of rayquaza lightning serpent looks to be coming our way, as well as some new kind of bulky/infected glyphids (but not roxpox).
Based on the previous campaign, getting all three new expansions should be something around 160 bucks
If they do a collectors choice pledge again, then my wallet will hate me, as that will for sure pass the 200 mark
Ye, I have Collector's (and 24 hour coin) for both, Mood has me by the gunk seeds.
So you'll want the error cube swarm threat tracker eh
I use the little metal mug as my swarm tracker, but I'm all for more collectables and options.
IIRC it was about $240 for the Collectors Edition Space Rig & Biome expansions with the Bulk and Korlok mini expansions.
This may be a tad cheaper since it is two expansions and only one mini expansion, so maybe Collectors will be right at $200? ... Guess we'll find out.
look like there is a hoarder too
i saw the deeptora honeycomb nest
that is weird to me since one of the last missions in the previous expansions has the hoarder as a mission specific event, but I do see the mini so no question about it
Not too weird, the base game also has a drone retrieval mission (ie salvage) and extermination (ie dreadnought), which came as fully formed things later on.
also i might be wrong about this but it looks like an Ebonite Grunt on the box art
it does, no clue what that is
also I can see that the box art for horrors of hoxxes also has the hollow bough vines
it's not i think, if you pay carefull attention you can see it projecting smoke from it's back
i think it's a brand new bug that spit gas
ur right, i see that now
interesting
The minis don‘t particularely wow me, will wait for more info though
I don‘t think the rival robots would be that interesting to paint, for example. Ironically, the minor expansion looks the most interesting with the unique creature design
Agreed
The fact we're also getting a new biome is nice. Sandblasted. Probably something else on the other side. New crystals could be radioactive?
Can paint them in any colours you like to make them interesting, make up your own rivals paint scheme where it's an anime style white and bright blues or reds, rather than brass/steel.
I painted some cyberpunky Infinity the Game miniatures not long ago and once you free yourself from a preconceived paintjob it's kinda fun to come up with something
There is also the thorn biome
I for got the name
But we can see it on the box
Hollow Bough?
For the moment biome expansion 2.0 is looking to be thé post intersting
Yes
I will probably only take that one if i have to choose
Dang, what the error cube doing here
damn thats wild ahaa
Here we go again!
Soon™️. This summer!
But there wasn't much to add according to you.
so they invented new stuff
Wind gusts in sandblasted corridors, who knows what is in hollow bough
Horder
Twin dreadnaughts
Caretaker and many other rival machines
...
...
That's a lot in and of itself, a worthy expansion. THEN, new glyphids and a whole boss exclusive to the board game, and likely some new secondary/throwables that are directly from the video game or board game exclusive.
hollow bough is just pain everytime you move, lol
The new eel enemy has "wyrm" in its name
Hollow Bough Mission Specific Event: Your dwarves keep stepping on prickly vines. Each dwarf rolls 1 creature die and takes any damage. Scream in agony on a "!"
Ran out of time to finish but I got my base paints and a wet wash in for my praetorians. Hoping to dry brush tomorrow, should make a huge difference.
Looks really cool Ngl can’t Wait for the final result
Each movement action*
Great job
I sadly haven’t gotten to painting my drg minis cuz of my warhammer addiction
I have a theory that you will exchange it with regular one based of wether progress bar is progressing or when progress speed is altered by something
I see the Crystalline Caverns and the Sandblasted Corridors
yeah
there might be more though
this is probably not everything if i had to guess
Also, the box art is wonderful
The 4 biomes left are the Salt Pits, Radioactive Exclusion Zone, Dense Biozone and Hollow Bough
sandworm boss in the boardgame before the video game 😔
Is this a septic spreder, original glyspid with spiky ass or just a grunt with something behind?
Reckon it's this one, and that it's new.
It looks more like this one
Ans this one looks like it might be a rockpox grunt a little
That's clearly the Septic Spreader...
Then maybe it either and new
There will be 2 septic preader miniatures confirmed :>
Very clearly the septic spreader
pity its a normal spreader i was hoping we would get the totally legit and totally not psyche-crashing Milky Leaky Spreader
Toughest enemy in the game
My tlailer analise, I edit in anything I missed
||Rival Incursion

Wyrn miniature expansion
-Wyrn miniature
*Wyrn is temporary name as only that was reveled||
Where did you see shredder miniatures?
Och good point, I only seen them on a box and assumed, they might be a card as well
Barrage Infector is also shown as a miniature.
Whaa- where
Yes. Exactly that one.
Could be a new type of vines
There should be Stabber-vines, somewhere, maybe as an event
damn my hastily-made gif cant stand a chance to that
It looks like a fusion of rockpox exploader and spreader
I actually do quite like that the DRG boardgame team is doing non-game enemies
though I simply can't justify buying everything
That looks like it's hurting him 🙁
I do too. Except for the fact the board game is the reason the stingtail exists
Arenet those the rockpox vines?
Same, im going to buy these expansions the second they release
I wouldn't think so, there's some claws to the right of them.
looks like beads/strings of liquid coming off them too
hmmm
there is the spetic spreader you can see it on the box poster
Niayiaka
The way I see it: it would be weird to get sandblasted corridors without a sand shark.
And just like that my storage solution is OBSOLETE lol
i clicked
What did it show ?
Driller in the shower
:0
Praetorians complete!
they look so good
maybe add a super thin wash of yellow-orange on the teeth so they look a bit rotten
the back is really neat yhought
I don't want them to have a rotten/bloody/etc look. I actually like the bright white contrast. Thanks for your suggestion though.
I did go back and add a weakpoint indicator on the base, however.
I'm not 100% happy with the indicator. I'll likely change this soon.
Its best when it glows
Seems like a personal preference. Being satisfied with your work is important, so do what feels best!
That’s really cool I might copy you
From their Instagram:
So, the mini expansion is called Shockwyrm!
very interesting
its kind of a bland name when comparing to other enemy names though
might not be the full name though
oh and it has a bunch of legs
The "legs" might be bristles to help them move.
I personally like all the enemy names and shockwyrm is no exception. The changed spelling of worm gives it an edge, too. That's just my take, though. I look forward to learning the others when they get revealed!
Wyrms are serpentine dragons in folklore so makes sense
Ah, that's so cool!
Damn it was one of guesses the but I didnt called it cuz I thought no way its that simple
<@&296918282403840000>
Are there lootbugs in the tabletop version ?
Yes
To be more clear: there are lootbug TOKENS in the board game, but there are not miniatures specifically. That said, if you get the STL files and have a 3D printer, there are lootbugs to print!
goo is in there 😄
though I am not that interested in the other expansions
I have a 6 year old primer spray sitting around, will test on the terrain pieces if its still good
I'm excited to see how yours come together. It's really fun to see how different styles from different painters look.
Got some other stuff to paint too 😄
ended up using a space marine to be part of one of the bases. Used a hot needle to make it look like he got shot up
Ihh thanks for the info!!
Mactera spawn
I tried to do an osl but i have mixed feelings
Probably the best paintjob i did so far thought
I love the colors on the wings, really brings home an elytra feel!
Thank you ! I am not done with them yet, i may add some more brights tones
Nice to see some necrons
Also rip the space marine😭
I just got the game last week and have been playing by myself to learn but I've been sort of loose with the rules.
Tomorrow I'm playing with some friends and would like to make sure that we follow the rules correctly so I was hoping someone could help me answer some questions/interpret the rules.
I've looked through the Manual and the FAQ and I've even added them both to NotebookLM and asked about it but I either haven't found the answer or am unsure on how to interpret it.
-
Do i select my desired targets first, then roll and see if they hit or do i roll the dice then select which targets I would like to hit?
I've been rolling first then selecting how to spread those hits. -
If i have a weapon upgrade installed to roll extra dice (like the fire damage for example). Do still roll the extra dice even if the normal dice miss?
I'm assuming no? -
How often does the engies sentry fire? I get that it shoots as soon as a target gets in range but what about if it misses and the target doesn't kill the sentry either? When does it fire next?
3b. If i set the sentry down next to me with a bunch of enemies around, does it take a shot at each straight away? -
Can enemies walk over pits? On most layouts there are walls on either side or all around so I've just let the bugs pass over but on some layouts/maps there are three or more pits beside each other.
I've been walking the enemies up to a wall or until a pit with engie foam pad before letting them cross over the pit in those few cases.
For 1: you roll your attacks then assign the dice, never assign damage specifically only the whole dice, you may already know that but idk
For 4: they can only go over outside if it says they can in the rules or data sheets
For example the flying creatures can
Some can also walk crawl to get across pits but I’m not entirely sure which ones those are
-
You designate a target space first, then roll and first hit has to go to the space you designated.
-
Yes they're bonus dice.
-
When a creature enters its range, spawns within range, or moves within its range, or activates within its range, but only once per creature per turn.
3b No, see above. -
Yes, partially, see example on page 25.
Attacking is on page 13; Pay ammo, select target space/area, roll dice. Continue to Assigning hits on page 14. First die assigned must be a hit. Next die can go on the same space or adjacent (unless otherwise specified for certain weapons).
I should actually paint my drg minis😭
Well it seems like there are different interpretations. 😅
- Reading the manual I was also leaning towards selecting targets before rolling damage was the correct way but didn't feel like I was certain. That should make everything slightly harder, i've been finding it a bit easy so that's good I guess.
- Alright, I've not been rolling extra if the original ones missed. I don't really get why it's specifying to roll the extra after the orignal ones if the original ones won't really affect it.
- So if I put down the sentry with enemies in range that doesn't count as them "spawning". The sentry only "activates" during the event/swarm phase.
And if an enemy spawns/moves/attacks within range in the swarm/event phase, the sentry shoots once. If the sentry then survives it only shoots at that target again the next event/swarm if it spawns/moves/attacks within range again. - I didn't think that the example on page 25 quite answered it since it's two pits wide in the middle. If it was only one pit wide, would they still have to crawl around to one of the side ones to pass on the walls of the pit? I'm assuming so? If it's just a line of 5 pits for example, enemies wouldn't be able to cross over on the middle three right? (Unless otherwise specified, like flying ones of course)
-
Because specifically the green die has a stun so you have to roll it separately, else you won't know which die has the stun if it's rolled along with other green dice. Easier to just roll them all after, but you can do as you please if you can keep track of the dice.
-
It doesn't make much sense for creatures to walk to the side of 1 tile wide pits since they can stop on the pit tile, attack across from it even, and then you'd have to remember that they have to move back over to one specific side but not the other, or walk off to the end of the pit. I've at least always played that they can cross 1 tile wide pits straight ahead since otherwise there are certain locations that would kinda break their movement, specifically some of the "dark" sided cave tiles with looping deep pits.
Makes sense. I'll just do as the manual suggests and roll the extra one separately then.
Yea that's the sort of map I just got to the other day where I found it most relevant. So in the case of this map you'd just let them walk around as if it was all solid ground? I had engie platforms all over for myself to pass so I forced the enemies to use them as well unless they were against a wall. But as you said, keeping track of which side they're on (especially with more players if I'm not the one moving the enemies every turn) could be hard.
I would let them walk across as if it was solid ground, yes. What you as a Dwarf player have to do has no bearing on how the creatures function, they're there to give you a challenge, not to be equals. You have plenty of mechanics as the player that give you a vast advantage.
Well yea but I've also been thinking of most rules where I've been unsure from the actual drg point of view. Where for example enemies wouldn't be able to just jump passed a pit, though they would be able to crawl on the walls or down to the bottom and up again.
Thanks for the help and input!
I always give creatures the upper hand if I'm unsure. That way it's on me to be tactical and not mess up.
Acid spitter
I hesitate beetween
Doing my last webspitter or try to do a Green or an ice one
Looks great! I wanted everything in the base set to be exactly as described (for example I wanted all three web spitters to look like web spitters, even though their damage is more like an acid spitter). That said, if time allows, I have a friend able to 3D print extras for biome/type variants. This is a very far-from-now thing though...but he is hooking me up with two loot bugs soon.
Regular loot bugs or fancy ones?
Just two regular loot bugs so I can paint a regular one and a golden one. No top hat, unfortunately.
That’s really cool thought
This game almost make me consider buying a 3D printer because of all thé cool things that the community make
Resourcegrub 🧐
That’s a cool project though, I choosed to do an acid spitter because i remember that they kinda look the same and it would be a cool challenge
Maybe add the glass thingy on top of it’s eye
more like 3.
A monocle
that's exacly what i thought
I had the idea way back when but didn't wanna bother with chains, now we have chains from the latest DLC
Shouldnt he be chubbier than regular lootbugs, considering his status?
anyone else just notice mood and ole steiness is also making the hitman board game?
Hello! I got a question. Im new with the Kickstarter jist, so i would like to know whether buying an "all in" on the kickstarter is cheaper or just generally more worth it than waiting for the release and buying all the expansions?
Generally the "all in" options, or even just pledging for parts on Kickstarter is cheaper than waiting for the 'retail' release. Usually they increase prices by 5-10% between Kickstarter and release.
You can compare prices from their webstore to their Kickstarters, don't think there's anything at all where it'd be worth waiting.
Oh, for some reason I thought it would be more expensive to buy the kickstarter, because I thought it was more of an "extreme" fan thing, for the fans that want to support the game and are willing to pay more
Now I get it, thanks 🙂
They need money/backers to have the product made, so as an incentive/thank you they offer lower prices in the campaign. And discounted bundles for example.
I wonder if they'll release everything again as 3rd edition
Possibly for the last expansions to fix a few missed mistakes
Finally introducing some old friends of mine to DRG. Time to pump some liquid morkite. Rock and Stone.
That's messed up. I love it
They have mentioned corrections for the new cards with inconsistent prints, so there's a good chance!
We did it, in their first mission, my fiends managed to see a praetorian and a bulk spawn back to back and managed not to die.
The board became pretty busy around the half of the mission lol
i would like that
especially if they send out upgrade kits like they did last time
i want my expansion mission books fixed
no other card has said to refer to the rulebook
the caretaker fight must be REALLY complicated to warrant this
and also wtf is this thing
that doesnt look like a wasp nest to me
Hey guys. I was playing with my friends last night and pulled this card. What does it mean when it says "Refer to the rulebook for further instructions."?
My guess is a Deeptora Honeycomb
A pile of dreadnought snot
painted some biomes terrain pieces, really like the look of these
took like 30 minutes at most, just speedpaints and a minor dry brush
It only needs to be complicated enough to not fit onto a card, for example how much health do they have? What resistances do they have? How many attack dice to they use? Do they have an effect on exclamation mark.
Doesn't need to be overly complicated, just enough that the wording doesn't fit compared to "refer to the rulebook for further instructions".
With the cavities and oozing stuff it certainly looks like "InsectSwarmPlant" aka Deeptora Honeycomb.
The model doesnt have many cavities
this one
it looks like a bulk detonator had a baby with a brood nexus
brood detonator
bulk nexus
also brood bulk or detonator nexus
the second sounds menacing
The side that's facing you in that image has like 6, at least.
they look quite different
I recomend to put some glowy lacquer on lava part to make it look mire alive
Do you guys pick a secondary or pick a random one?
By the rules you pick one, personally I pretty frequently lately pick a random one, or at least from a selection as not to clash with the primary.
Just finished my last slasher
The mouth and teeth are à bit weird but i cannot fix them or the paint Will be too thick
honestly, i dont think ill buy the new expansions if they dont include a big box that fits everything. no point buying everything if you spend all the time that you would use to play just transporting it to your friends house.
You could get your friends to come to you if you have the components. Or you could play with only some of the expansions if the set/pack up is overwhelming
There have been custom storage solutions shared on here that'll make it all smaller, but it's difficult to settle on one when you have a whole extra 2 major + 1 mini expansions coming soon
hopefully someone can make a printable storage solution for everything but i dont even think it would fit on my printer
and even if i do store and play the game at my house there are so many boxes of different sizes that its very hard to find space for them all
Why on earth would they include a big box that fits everything when they're more than likely not even sure if they're done making expansions?
Beyond which, what's so difficult about creating a storage solution of your own? Go buy a plastic bin or cardboard box. You can just as easily only bring the base game and one or two expansions, whichever you mean to play, no need to carry absolutely everything around.
Sounds like a lot of complaining about nothing, just reminds me of the need for a "if you want it done you'll have to do it yourself" mentality, don't expect others to do exactly what you want. Sort it out yourself.
You can make one yourself. Design it in parts that connect to eachother, with or without glue. And if you're not capable, pay someone else to do it. Sitting around hoping someone will do precisely what you want is rather silly.
Really excited to see the full content of the expansions
do we have a date for those?
@dawn ibex did you check the pinned messages ?
the ks site doesn‘t have one, thats why I‘m asking
if you've checked the pinned messages, you have as much info as we do then
Part of the Update post:
"We also have an update on the card back issue from the First Edition of the base game. The corrected cards are now in stock at our warehouses, and we’re in the process of coordinating shipments to everyone who requested them."
Uhh, well crap, did I request? I don't think I did.
mood plz.
What is happening ?
i think they accidentally sent too many emails
they did
they frothed my email into a frenzy
project isn't even launched yet, got like 6 emails from kickstarter today
i just had a crazy idea for including the stalker to the board game, the idea would be that the stalker would be spawned bia a swarm card or an event card, it would not have a designated miniature because it would be invisible all the time. each time it activate all dwarf lance 2 crature dice, and the goal would be to bet what symbol would be rolled, if you guessed right all damage would be negated, but if you guessed wrong you apply the dice result (!) would no nothing so being wrong would not be too penilising, if you want to attack the slasher, you have to try a bet and roll your attack dice at the same time as the creature dice, if you are right all your dices hit the slasher slasher would have 2 health and minor resistances maybe bullet and explosion smth like that I think that would be a neat addition, I imagine this as if the dwarfs try to shoot in a random direction in hope that the slasher was there
any thought are welcomed !
and this version would just require the creation of a new event or swarm card so anyone not having a 3d printer could do it with a regular printer
If exclamation mark counts as blank then it seems bit too easy to circumvent with statistics. And if not it becomes way too much of a hassle with too many combinations to 'bet' on. Far easier way to get around the "no 3d printer" issue is to have it tied to mission specific events, and for example allowing reaction shots requiring 2 damage else the active Dwarf takes 2 damage or something.
cleaned these up a bit
another wash and dry brush to push contrast on the rock and dry brushed the crystal with white
not quite sure what to do with this guy
Dark yellow tongue maybe?
mouth is looking really good
maybe add some white at the botom of it so it look like he is firing a shot
no if you get hit by the attack, exclamation point count as blank
when doing your bet all symbol are taken into account
it's like being attacked by two grunt
except there is a fun gimmick
Then you would just always bet on two bitemarks. Else there are too many combinations, and so you'll at worst get a hit.
bitemark and exclamation point seem to be the most common I would bet on that
And when shooting it's a real crapshoot. I think it'd be too annoying to deal with, and not fun at all. It's not even represented physically so you don't get a fun experience.
I will try it, I did the pitch to my friend and they all seem to find it fun
beside it would be only in one swarm card so it would be a rare enough experience to be fun
Except it stays for every activation after that, and it harder to kill since not only do you have to hit your shooting rolls, but correctly bet on the creature dice.
that's also why it has almost no resistance so one good hit and you are clear
that's why I stated that it could be a one time only event card
Then... there isn't really much to it, it's an overly convoluted mechanic for a one time card. Guess two bite marks so you take one damage, and don't bother shooting as it's likely a waste of ammo.
yes the shooting thing would be removed
it would only be a bet
i think you misunderstood what I meant by the betting thing, if you bet for exemple one bit mark and one ! and you get exactly that it is negated but if you guessed two bite mark and you get mark and ! it would not be negated
it's really not complicated, you only get the negation if you got what you bet
that's not overcomplicated
that's why ! count as blank
No, I understood. I would bet on 2 bite marks as not to ever risk taking two damage. I would know that at worst it'll be one damage. If I only have one health left I might guess otherwise, since any damage takes me out, but otherwise 2 bite marks is a safer bet.
my bad
imma check the odd real quick
in my head it was like 3 ! 2 bite mark and one blank
think it's 3 bites, 2 !
hmmm
maybe only one dice would solve the problem
getting bite is half the probability
so betting it don't guarantee
and maybe add fall over to ! or webbed would be good
even if it don't web in game
but it's sad that only the webspitter uses this mechanic
I will try this and give you my genuine feedback
me neither ☹️
wait, would the new card backs fix the discoloration of expansion swarm cards?
No, the fix is to 1st edition as I understand it, 2nd ed/expansions becoming the new standard.
rip, wonder if they will be an option for the 3rd wave?
anyone else wondering what these new tile things are?
first one is the windy vents for sure, no clue on the purple one
second one probably gust of wind
Second looks like it could be a sandstorm. My guess it slows your movement and/or decreases your range
I saw the card back issue notice and was looking on my cards. I noticed there are some colored triangles on the bottom right of some of the Rock and Stone cards. Why are they marked?
Because they're expansion cards, and they're marked so that you can separate them if you wish.
maybe "webbed" as a status effect/ailment?
New expansions are adding huuli hoarder but we already know how it works probably
2 health no resistance and 3 mineral dice reward
They look realll nice , very fond of the tint you gave the crystals :D!
Just like Salvage Op and Extermination were changed from the base game to their own things in expansions I'd rather expect the Huuli Hoarder to be more than what's listed in the MSE.
Second one makes you die
true we yet to have webs in caves other than webspitters
Picture 1 is the wind holes (it shows an arrow so maybe it blows you away in that direction?) 2n one looks like a waspn est, number 3 maybe webs?
quite like how this guy is turning out
my goal is to finish all my DRG minis in two months
I've played maybe 10 - 15 games of the new expansions and never pulled the korlok tile once. We had to force draft it in for one game, and when we opened it, we were like ahh ehhhh we're just gonna tiptoe around it and didn't even engage with the korlok.
Whats with the board game having new monsters, they look cool
I've lost one game kinda due to it, was already in trouble and thought I could get a breather in a hidden cave, away from the heaps of creatures on my crew, nope.. Korlok. Other than that I've taken it out a handful of times.
The Stingtail originated from the board game, and it has the Rammer as well which isn't from the video game. So we're getting a few more to pad out the ranks.
I know that the rammer was a cut creature that was replaced by the shellback in the base game due to problems with physics
Board game also has a heap of weapons and throwables/grenades that aren't in the video game. It's not a 1 to 1 adaptation.
I have also noticed that, lots of exclusive stuff in it
Afternoon y’all, (at least where I’m located) I’m looking to get rid of my deep rock Board game. Wondering if anyone is interested in a full pledge from the first and second kickstarter? If you are please PM me. I’m in the US. I also have an extra base game I’m looking to offload. Loved the game it just doesn’t see the table anymore so I’m thinking it’s time to move it. Figured this would be a good place to at least ask.
what do I see it right there ...are those the twins ?
and that little one on the left, wonder what that one does (besides eating dwarves)
yup
I hope we get the sweet worm in DRG
Whats that card's back print promblem? I just found out about it and possibility of getting fixed ones but idk what is it about. How does the problem look and does it affect every copy or only some?
Also if somebody asked, how much they cost and can they be added as next campain add-on
Later expansions are missing the corner hex bolts on the back of the cards, that the 1st ed cards have. So if you're paying attention you can see that it's an expansion card.
It doesn't necessarily have gameplay impact
There was a signup sheet for backers back in september last year, update #24 I think it was, but that came and went. If you're not a backer I don't think there's a way to get them, no cost/add-on possibility has been mentioned.
Ohhh, I knew something about these newer cards backs was different (except for color)
So if I am a backer I should rather be able to get them?
If you only have 2nd edition cards then there's no change.
If you backed the original Kickstarter campaign back in 2022, yes. If you back the later campaign and have 2nd ed game along with the expansions they should match.
I have 1st edition form mood store and expansions from backer kit
Then I suppose you could email them and explain, and ask if you can buy a pack or something.
I'll ask them about the price on newest post then decide if I want them
Thanks for all the explanation!
I'm just trying to understand the new expansions a bit better
So horrors of hoxxes - Adds the twins and is presumably the one that adds biomes
Rival Incursion - Adds the rival company with the industrial sabotage mission type
Third expansion - Adds a couple of bugs that seem to be exclusive to the board game
Is there anything I missed or got wrong?
As per the box art Horrors of Hoxxes appears to add the Twins, biomes, and more creatures, while the third expansion is the Shockwyrm on its own (similar to how we previously had the Bulk Detonator and Korlok).
god save my wallet
I volunteer your wallet as tribute
I volunteer your salary, that persons wallet and GSGs favorite meal as tribute.
I volunteer Lamb to paint all the minis from now on
Here is what we know in but of detail #drg-board-game message
Snow exploder !
I also tried doing another paintjob for the macteras
But it doesn’t look that good
A Snosploder.
Uses ice dices
eh, can still use explosive, but adds hypothermia as well.
That’s What I imagined
But it would only work in glacia strata otherwise how can you remove hypothermia without an oasis pit
Any friendly flame damage, obviously.
i had a funny idea were the only way to remove hypotermia outisde glacia strata would be to be next to another dwarf, so they would heat themselfs up
but that's even better
Sure, "trading action" means they're hugging.
why not even add irl hug in the homebrew while we're at it
"players must hug eachother to remove the hypothermia token"
Power is out glowsticks and board game it is then
Where are your high or medium Intensity flares?
All I have is these glowsticks from a board game called the zone RIP
Drak, x2 upgrade, overclocked bulldog... I approve.
gunner has been spamming F
This makes me wanna get a set of printed flares
i got several sheets too
same
If I kill a creature and have hits remaining to assign, can I target something behind the killed creature that was initially blocking LOS?
just do whatever the hell you want, I do whatever the hell I want. When Im shooting I usually do a 720* no scope per creature. (Dont listen to me, Johnno in tutorial you in a minute)
Yes you can, just keep following LoS, range, and assigning hits rules. Killed creatures are removed 'instantly' and LoS is updated the same.
Thanks
Can someone remind of the errors in the mission setups for the expansions? I know there's one in the mixed missions, no eggs when there's a hatching event. I'm not sure if there's more errors I need to know? (also if someone has a link, I can't find the updated versions on boardgamegeek)
The mission books have been individually updated, don't think there's different versions of them.
Yea but still different from the printed versions, I can find the updated version for the base game but not the expansion
The expansion rules on BGG are the updated ones.
I couldn't find the updated expansion rules because I was looking at the files section of the base game, didn't realise the expansions had their own entries with their own files tab. Found what I was looking for now
So I gotta ask is this mission a mistake?
One of the holes it wants me to place covers a flare for one of the mission specific question marks and now there is one extra question I don’t know where to put
Yes. Has been fixed in the updated rulebook on BGG.
Ahhh so I have the old rulebook
You have the current physical copy, but there's an updated digital copy that fixes a few mistakes like that.
Where do I get the new rulebook pdf
Does Scout get to use the grappling hook over biome features like snow, ice, goo and lava?
Page 5; yes.
But if he ends his movement on them they still take effect.
Ah yes thank you. I was looking for the answer in the individual biome pages.
incoming £799 for 3 sets
Can't wait
I'm gonna guess about 230 for the collectors edition
With all expansions? more like $600+
Jeez
sooo much content though.
im an original backer and still havent touched the second campaign stuff
just start with the core game its plum full or stuff
then if you love it get more
I played all the missions of the core game on tabletop simulator
i've played them all on my table and still have not had a chance to start the expansions
I‘ll start playing when I stopped painting lmao
I don't suppose there's a synopsis of all the little mistakes like that? Guess I'll have to grab my copies & check them manually
I played all the core game missions, and the first few of the expansions
It's gonna be 230 just for two expansions with shipping
they show in a gif later in the email what appears to be another coin
its the same shape at least
There'll be no official list, but we did go through all of it when it released back in the day. You're just as well off setting up as usual and only going to the digital copy if there's an issue. Think it was like 4 or 5 things.
I only found 3 errors in the expansions, I only checked the mission setups though, didn't read through all rules. For future reference if anyone needs, respectively: Mission 2 from the mixed missions; poison spores have to replaces with cocoons. mission 3 from biome expasion; the 2-space chasm needs to be placed one space down to reveal the flare. mission 7 from biome expansion; the 3-chasm hasto be a 2-space one. Didn't find anything wrong in the space rig expansion.
Going through it did raise a question: what happens if you slide on smooth ice towards a chasm? You can't enter those spaces so do you just stop at the end?
Finally get to see what they are brewing up with the expansions! I’m very curious
In a lot of ways I feel like the game loop is quite complete after the last set, so I’d like to see what ideas they have
Same! really excited
My bank is fucking cooked
7 days to uncook it
Do I REALLY need two kindney ?
(plus the length of the campaign)
plus the lenght of time before the backer surveys come out (hopefully)
Hi everyone, Do we know if there is other expansions in plan or is this the last expansions ?
i think that might be the last but who know
we already have enough at this point
We got the expansion funded within 24 hours last time right?
Well let's improve our record then
Not confirmed to be the last ones. I'd say it depends on the sales
I think we are reaching the limit of what content can be ported from the games
More would be nice, but I think this is enough
How are mixed mission going to work between this and the last expansions?
Are we going to get a mixed-mixed mission book?
Rockpox
Btw I hope they are adding more hidden cave tile that would Space things up
I'm getting a vision on how Rockpox could work in the board game
Suppose we might get an "ultimate mission book" at some point, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's simply let up to players to mix up their own missions. You have the biome rules, and you have mission rules, smush them together.
The manual for the base game already has pages on making custom- and random missions
Maybe the expansion manuals are going to do something similar
"How to make new mission with the other expansions packs"
Could be, not sure it's even necessary though.
Or what it'd have to look like to expand on what already exists.
I can think of Iall the mission types added after the base game + the biomes
What help do you need in their setup for a custom mission? Say for example combining them with a biome.
I was thinking of creating a good maze layout + obstacles + mission specificity event
Maybe I'm overthinking this
Maybe. I was making mixed missions prior to the mixed missions book, and have ran all sorts of custom missions, and it all came naturally to me. So it's slightly difficult for me to see what others would need, hence the question. Not sure if MOOD/Ole are in a similar position, and will just leave it up to the players to figure out, else they'd need some feedback on what the customisation rules would need to have, beyond what's in the base game one.
Mixed missions is already something you have to figure out yourself, beyond repeating the ones in the booklet. So my question stands I guess, what'd be the requirement for writing guidelines for that beyond the base game one.
Neodocyte gang
What happens if you slide on smooth ice towards a chasm? You can't enter those spaces so do you just stop at the end? same with other obstacles, you just stop?
& for those who use card sleeves, is it worth? Sleeved up cards take up a lot of extra space & I don't play the game often enough, I'm thinking to just take them out again
Well, there are a few alternatives. Do you think the Dwarf falls into the deep pit and is removed from play? Do they temporarily gain the ability to fly and are moved across the pit? Do they see the pit and do a cartoonish scooby doo run in the air thing and then turn around and slide the other way?
If the rulebook doesn't specifically take up the case that you think would break the game, then don't enter that specific case. Don't walk onto the ice so you'll slide into a deep pit. And if Karl forbid you're shoved onto the ice by a creature have your Dwarf slide in a different direction that wouldn't create a paradox.
Or, simply stop the slide prior to the object that you're not allowed to stand on.
I would probably just stop before, we struggle enough as it is. Although if I wanted to make things harder, could also make the dwarf go knocked down. As in, thematically, the dwarf manages to plunge their pickaxe in the ice right before tumbling down but fell prone doing so.
But probably won't come up.
Folks talking about expensive collector's for this like $500+ are crazy. The collector's edition to nab the biome expansion + spacerig expansion + korlok tyrant weed mini expansion was about $240 total.
Considering this is another 2 expansion + 1 mini expansion I'd be shocked if they tried to charge over $300.
Also, the 24 hour backer reward has been metal coins. It looks to be the same again. The error cube is likely exclusive to the collector's edition, much like the metal mug marker is of the base game.
I was going by newcomer collector's edition for the second kickstarter (so 2nd ed deluxe, spacerig, biome, mini expansions), plus spacerig+biome+mini expansion. Add all that together, add a few percent for inflation.. certainly wouldn't be surprised if an "all in absolutely everything since base game" collector's was closer to $600.
That makes sense as an everything package, yeah.
Thanks for that clarity.
well, I'm gonna get started on a new DRG board game miniature that makes a GSG employee or two go "who leaked the files?".
Oooh, leaked concept art! :0
not "leaked"
shown today
check #rogue-core-chat last pinned message
yup
Leaked! I'm speshul
Ommoran heartstone got hands
you missed the "little bit of everything" mission in biome expansion where the magic hole covers a flare
unless im crazy and that flare is actually supposed to be covered
but its still weird that they cover flares at all
I wonder if we will be able to hack the patrol rival bots in the new expansion
I checked & it's supposed to be covered, 8 pick-up tokens & 8 flares total
I tried making a osl for the warden bulb but I can’t figure it out, does Antoine have any advicies ?
white is as far as you can go with a light value. That said, you can darken everything around it to make it seem brighter.
I usually just slap white on the the object which emanates light and then glaze it with the color you want. Fluo paints work great, or you can go over with an airbrush, but glazes or diluted "contrast" paints will work fine. Then it's a good idea to also show bounced off light from nearby form planes which are facing the light source.
I sometimes reapply white in crevices of the light source to make it punchier.
The further you go, the reflection should be less pronounced.
But if it still doesn't seem bright enough, just darken everything else around it. There has to be contrast to sell it.
in the case you're presenting, I'd honestly go with a green-yellow glaze for the light source to make the magenta and purple pop.
If you want to have gradual effect, you can go even yellow-white in crevices, it should make it vibrant
and when something isn't right, I recommend checking a B&W version of the image. You can quickly spot if something is off just looking at value (gray scale, like how dark or light the face of the form is in relation to everything around it, especially the sources of light you're trying to portray).
Here you can see that the carapace and the bulb are quite similar in values - this makes the bulb, which I guess you want to make glow, more flat in comparison.
Like there would be a stronger light source above the bulb, rendering it's glow weak, like when you would light a flare in a brightly lit room. It's still glowing the same like it would in a dark room, but everything around it is equally bright, negating the dramatic lighting it can create.
Using grayscale is actually really smart, I should have thought of it sooner since I muse it to paint
But your advices really helped me thank you so much
I will try it with my next minis since I already over painted my warden too much
yeah, often such gray-scale underpaintining is called grissaile and used in slapchop techniques. It basically helps you eliminate color from the equation and focus on rendering the 3d form
But What you said was really usefull, and I will Apply it when painting the spitballer
gl hf!
So in the begenning you only use white and black
And then you glaze color over it ?
yeah, that's a popular approach called "slapchop". The glazes, in this approach, use the contrast line of paints, since they have that specific viscosity and are quite transparent, shifting the value when they pool. But glazes will work just fine - because that form was already rendered in B&W and it just tints it.
but the gist of is you can use a grayscale to first mark where you want to have the light source. It's easier to control what should be the darkest dark and lightest dark. Zenithal approach uses the same principal, if you're familiar
and then it's easier to make adjustments. All in all, if it reads well in B&W it'll read well independant of colors. This lets you get away with some wacky stuff color wise, but that's the fundamental (proper value range)
I often do zenithal but I think I do it too bright
Do I should prime my minis black and then use white paint to do a grayscale ?
And then wash my color over it ?
But this would affect saturation no ?
yeah, it can go as fancy or simple as you like, but that's the goal. I tend to use a gray between black and white to make it smoother - and grey in a bit more wide angle
oh yeah, that's the price of B&W shortcut
black and white will drain the saturation no matter what you do
but you can go fancy with that approach - in general what you're doing is a draft of light. This can be done with different colors to get different effects. For example, instead of pure neutral gray you use a gray that's more colorful, then run highlights that are more yellow or something.
Afterwards, when you glaze, you'll gonna have different kind of interactions with the colors underneath it. Color theory comes in handy to get back your saturation
and remember, you don't have to paint everything - if you want to draw attention somewhere, just focus on that part. Painting over that simple "slapchop" to bring back some vibrancy and more color
the grayscale is just a help for you to understand how you want to show light
you can go over it deepening darks and going lighter on highlights
Yes I could paint my model as usual and then do a slapshop on the light source, would that work ?
Because I enjoy saturation
Yes I often paint and using that knowledge for minis painting has been really usefull
it depends how you paint your model as usual.
In that case you're not gonna do a slapchop - but that's fine. Slapchop is just a technique.
The approach of a grayscale first then color can be done whenever wherever you want. Just having a pre-painted draft of lighting on the form will let you more accurately gauge which values would go where.
But yeah, painting will be your friend here- it helped me to get better immensely
you paint in oils?
I use all medium but oil is my favorite
oh boy, those are the best washes you can get
The things is that it is very expensive
the thing, is you need extremely little of that stuff there
Use oil in minis painting ?
That’s actually very smart
with mineral spirits you can dilute it to whatever viscosity you want
the neat part is the miniral spirits will evaporate quickly but the oil will still be workable. You can go over with makeup sponges to get them from raised areas
leaving neat transitions and pooling in shadows
just youtube oil washes in mini painting. I highly recommend Vince Venturella if you're looking for more technical and in-depth look into things. He's a legend. But Marco Frisoni is great when it comes to oils in minis.
yeah, I mean with the basic RYB scheme you can get quite far if you gonna go with good paints
