Its just ridiculous that these mods are under this category that is clearly an unfair disadvantage, and that I, as THE HOST, have no say in it.
the mod.io guidelines are guidelines and not necessarily 100% strict, the minimap you're referencing was reviewed by quite a few people at the time
there's a whole conversation over why it's verified if you search in the approval channel
as for "I'M THE HOST" there's not much you can do about that, it's a multiplayer game with official modding support
and the "show all enemy outlines" is approved, so nobody can join you with it in vanilla

Custom Difficulty and Swarm Control both let you customize your difficulty to your liking. I personally like Custom Difficulty the most

I do realize that. Before modding was a thing on several occasions I ran into blatant cheaters and whatnot. I'm not asking for anti cheat. What I'm asking for is a) put mods in the correct fucking category WHICH YOU ALREADY HAVE SYSTEMS FOR IN PLACE or at the bare minimum b) show the host a list of mods that people have client-side. If everyone else can see my entire build, can see my entire inventory, and can see my exact location at all times, then why can I not see which mods they have? Or ban 'verified' mods as well as 'approved' mods? Obviously people will cheat, but the thing is that most people don't. Most people play by the rules, and right now, the rules are that the minimap and all these 'qol' mods are fair game, and they are treated as such. It should not be this way. There is no reason for it to be this way.
Yes it is a PVE game, but the lack of information is part of the PVE experience. Communication with your teammates is one of the best things about this game, and now, I find myself communicating less. I don't need to tell them I have that last bit of nitra, because, well, they already know. Scout doesn't need to worry about managing flares because everyone has night vision. I don't need to give directions to someone who's lost because, nobody gets lost. I don't need to say 'watch out for the cave leech' because it's already glowing red on their screen. To me, this is cheating. If other people want to play that way, go ahead! That's fine! I'm not asking for it to be removed or even stopped, but when I have randoms join, and I am pure vanilla, I expect that those who join are either equally vanilla or perhaps a minor visual or auditory mod here and there, that's fine, that's fair, that's reasonable. But as it is, these 'verified' mods are frankly cheating IMO. And nobody's doing it to be an ass. Not one person I have run into has been running these mods to be a prick, they just see that it would be useful and don't consider my POV. I don't blame them. It is 'verified' after all. The definition of 'verified' is exactly the kind of mod I think is OK to run with someone who is vanilla. By their own definition it should not affect the host. And yet, as the host, I continue to find that it DOES affect me. For all the reasons I've mentioned above, and more. I don't expect modding to go away but I don't like that I'm at an objective disadvantage over a dwarf who's modded their game, and if I give in and download these mods, then I will be at a clear advantage over some dwarves who are still playing vanilla. I just want vanilla. Is that a fucking crime.
There are two minimap mods. One is verified and the other is approved. There were agreed upon limitations for the verified one. They are remaining in their approval categories.
I just want to make this clear. This is a casual pve horde shooter. By the definitions of the verified category, the mods in there meet the requirements. If there’s something egregious then it can be reported in #modding-approval-discussion for review.

The definition of 'verified' mods is simply that it shouldnt affect the host, and doesn't change the playstyle. If that were true, then I wouldn't be affected. And yet I am. I am constantly affected by them. So the categories are BS. There is literally no arguement that a LITERAL MINIMAP affects gameplay. It affects gameplay. IT AFFECTS GAMEPLAY. like I dont even know how to startthis arguement because your just saying 'well it doesnt affect gameplay if its verified' BUT THATS OBVIOUSLY UNTRUE, so like what am I supposed to do besides play with bosco or not play at all

You are overreacting regarding something that is not an issue. This is the equivalent of complaining that one of the other players in my L4D2 lobby is using a mod that makes the tank music more audible or alters colors to improve legibility for those with color deficiencies. DRG is a casual horde shooter. Stop treating it like GTFO.
You are mischaracterizing my issue. I don't play LFD2, so I cant speak much to it, but as stated above, audio or visual changes (like a texturepack in minecraft), or true QOL changes (like no forge animation), those are fine. That is a non-issue here. The issue is that there are certain mods (minimap, glowing glyphids, seeing other people's inventories and builds, night vision, choosing which kind of beer to drink, etc.) which CLEARLY alter the gameplay, which goes directly against the definition of a 'verified' mod, and yet, they are verified regardless. I know that I have quite a purist stance on it, and most people don't think that it changes gameplay significantly, which is probably why it is verified instead of approved, but I don't want to play with those mods either. I want to play pure vanilla. AT THE BARE MINIMUM I would like a way to see what 'verified' mods clients have when they connect to a host (and I could just ask them to disable it themselves), and Ideally I would like a way as a host to disable client-side mods.

sounds like you wouldn't want people using ReShade either etc; you might want to just resolve yourself to not being able to police the entire world to your particular standards

There is a difference. 99% of players I play with are not going out of their way to install mods against my wishes. They are minding their own buisness, and following the rules.
There is certainly a difference between having nightvision because it is 'verified' and thats chill, and being aware that thats not chill, and going out of your way to install nightvision in an undetectable way so that you can cheat. I do not expect to police anyone really. I just want a quick and easy way to disable client mods. Obviously there will be hacked clients and people will put a robot arm hooked up to their mouse, but 99.9% of people are chill and would not go to that extent. They'd just leave my lobby and go somewhere else. Which is good! good for them! good for me!
what nightvision mod are all these people using? as said earlier that's why #modding-approval-discussion exists, post it there if you think it's in the wrong category
If I ever play with someone who has that mod again I will let you know. I don't remember it, it has been awhile. But my point still stands with other mods, specifically minimap, and seeing other's inventories. My two most hated mods tbh.
seeing others' inventories doesnt really affect the gameplay outside of making collaboration easier
i.e. i see the driller has cryo, so i dont take fire mods that ruin the game for them

as for minimap that does feel pretty cheaty yeah, but it is possibly verified under the lens of accessibility
i.e. if you are hard of hearing you are disadvantaged compared to other players that can hear bugs behind them
something like a sound-based radar would be less cheaty than always visible enemies though
there are also far better ways to cheat outside of abusing a minimap intended to help others who need it

Honestly it is hard to put into words why its not ok. But it goes like this Other dwarves have access to information that I don't have. I do not like that. I do not like that I have to verbally ask "does anyone have that last 5 nitra" and nobody else does. First of all, it removes something to talk about. Talking in the voice Pods is half of the fun. Second of all, I don't like that I don't have access to that information. I could just install that mod, and treat it as the new vanilla, but if I play with someone who's new or doesn't have mods, then I will be putting them in the very situation that I didn't like in the first place!

so its a catch22, I can not have the mod, and simply be that one dwarf thats still collecting boolos despite us having them all already, or I can install it and put someone else in that spot.

drg already has an option for filtering out modded lobbies, for example - but mod.io is notoriously unstable so there is a community developed modloader alternative that does not work properly with that filter
so anybody hosting lobbies using that mod loader are erroneously marked as vanilla
and that is also a big problem with very little hope of properly addressing
the side loader adds a modded tag to the server name afaik
No shot it is too difficult to "reasonably address" - other games do it all the time, in fact I am already aware of a very bizzarre workaround to disabling client mods
If you join a game via a discord link while your game is closed, and it opens and you join, your client mods will be disabled
that would fragment the playerbase even further

one thing that is worth pointing out here - the fact that verified mods must be manually verified indicates that anything in the verified category is something a dev signed off on
so it has already been decided internally, to some capacity, that mods like enemy radar are not "cheats"
there is the auto-verified category but it only works for basic replacements of textures and audio iirc

im not sure that all mods have the capacity to be unloaded at will
like, with the workaround you mentioned, i think that works because the mods are getting skipped over at load time
but i dont think it is always quite as simple to have a mod already be loaded, and then unload it before joining a game

Because accessibility options are also cheating and my experience is ruined if I think other people might use them.
I expect your values are being trod on here by a system you didn't design and don't control and which has very imperfect overlap with how you would have made it work if it were representing your interests more closely.
But matchmaking is always to at least some extent coercive because no system can satisfy all possible preferences about it simultaneously.
The devs aren't just trying to streamline all possible arrangements, they are also knowingly trading some of them off against each other so as to try to make the results more positive on average and more inclusive rather than no one ever having to compromise.

Reforged likes to crash often, that's one of my only nitpicks i have with it. You cannot run assignments when playing reforged, as i've had several crashes happen from that.
It always crashes my game whenever i apply it as a mod, though

reforged is largely hex made
and hex mods are very prone to breaking from slightest game changes
and mod author is rather stubborn about modding so its not going to change

Hey, i need some help, i modded drg (and i never added this mod explicitly) and now lloyd is stuck in anime form, and i want the good lloyd back. Its even active when all mods are disabled so i can't systematically try and find a mod thats doing it.

Most of my mods are audio based and just make more funny sounds, but theres a lot out there for expanded missions and more overclocks, you could mess with those and try new builds
Theres also mods that you can use to alter the haz levels if theyre not challenging enough

Re-Forged is my personal favorite of the content mods, my only nitpick is that the custom mc lines are a little odd

The game auto installs for me but I need to wait for them to done extracting and load again everytime

By the color of the background fog I am referring to the [insert biome color] haze that makes it feel like you’re looking through dirty or greasy glasses; I don’t want to increase the brightness of the caves or change the ambient lighting, I just want the color of the fog gone.

Yes, but the main branch is more broken due to the recent game update but it's extremely old. So I am working on getting the test branch up to snuff to be the main build update.

the problem is that the game does not always crash, and after entering the game I have no mods at all, they are downloaded again after restarting and everything works fine

probably not because they don't add new triggers to voice lines, they just replace them, they would need to add new triggers which is much harder to do than just replacing some voice files
@ivory hawk Guys, this guy gets the "Modding has been disabled by a launch option" and "Fetching ToS from mod.io" error when looking at the Modding tab in-game. Launch option is clear, not a single letter. And it's on Directx12. He has also accepted the ToS on the mod.io site. That's all the info for now. Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?
Tried suggesting to delete mod.io folders.

love all the QoL of mint but not properly marking lobbies as modded sucks
i assume it's some sort of limitation due to it disabling the in-game mod integration

without the tag filtering your server there's at least a chance someone'll see the lobby instead of sitting in modded tag hell for a few hours
currently not a perfect solution of course, but i've found that maybe less than 20% of people that join lobbies using mint aren't intending to join a modded lobby

i don't believe the "normal" branch of mcr is working properly atm, the maintenance patch changed how the mission terminal works in some way but the test branch should be fine

No, I want to play with mods, but for some reason I get this error.
What happened:
- I subscribed to 3 mods (message of the day, different colors on twins dreadnoughts, skip intro)
- I lauched the game and it crashed. Crash message from unreal engine appeared. I closed it.
- I lauched the game again and now my mods were deleted. And they cant be dowloaded, error "package invalid"

I tried everything to fix that, re-installed the game and nothing helped.
Devs could make modding much easier with manual mod installation, like many other games, but instead they made this integration with mod.io, that sometimes crashes and there's no solution to that.

verified mods dont stop you from hosting lobbies and shouldn't tag your game as modded
They're referring to the soft cap of 50, the exceeding of which will force your lobby to be hidden from the server browser.
oh hey question, i’m my game i removed all my mods, but some ranged enemies spitters menaces spreaders and others sometimes i’ve seen it effect the rock pox weapon frame and it makes them glow, either a mod i had at one point made them glow or a mod from when i houned somebody else’s game got me, and it’s not gone away, any ways i can fix it

im a tf2 player and a lot of us turn off our weapon viewmodels (i.e the weapons we shoot are invisible) when we play
i have tried mimicking this in DRG with a verified mod called Customizable Weapon Viewmodel FOV with moderate success

it is almost perfect for hitscan weapons (minigun, subata, etc.) with the only gripe being that on some weapons they are still partially (but barely) visible
however, on projectile weapons, interestingly enough the mod changes where the projectile comes out on your screen thus changing how it functions
when i use the mod to try and hide for example the sludgepump from my screen, my shoots come out from a bizarre angle that puts me at a slight disadvantage
the tl;dr of this message is -- is there a mod that allows for viewmodels to be turned off or is this capability not possible due to modding reasons (i am not a modder please no yell at me)

Have a look at some mods that say hud in their name, I think I've seen one where you also switch the placement or hide it. Don't use it tho, but might be what you look for

my guess would be mismatched/incompatible mods and/or a mod requires the game to fully restart to load?
if possible try to join a different lobby, or if you're playing with friends ask them which mods they're running so you can install them in a clean fashion :)
most game changing mod i use of any consequence and what got me back into drg is the karl class for driller mod which lets one equip whatever
or better mining cant think of a way those would bother anything

also, your lobbies aren't automatically marked as sandbox or modded so make sure you label your lobby as modded when you use a game changing mod

Hey, I'm looking for some advice for mods to download.
I'm running an event soon for about 10-20 possible people and I'm looking for mods to make the experience more interesting (that are also requently updated/supported to try and prevent crashes)
I have 40 nitra resups, more players balanced, starship troopers and dreadful ending. Are there any other mods that just somewhat spice up the gameplay without adding in any extra wacky enemies/missions/elements? I thought about using the playable bug mod in junction with the miracle spectator camera to play as dreds, bulks, etc. But found the spectator camera VERY buggy (which to be fair it's in beta). Any and all suggestions are appericated

Hello, I was doing the "Directories to never cook" thing and added all the directories that mod_lint said they weren't for auto-verification, but there is this FSD/Content\Audio/ReverbLobby that is not anywhere and keep appearing in the red 'no'
Delete the reverb lobby thing after cooking in unreal. It's not a directory, it's a file

i havent used shoutboard before and my mods are updating rn so i'll give my thoughts in 20-30mins from now
it would probably be easier to list the normal things the modding integration does
mostly because i can't think of anything which makes it a rather short list
iirc to use shouts outside of already existing voice line bundles you had to be either host or mod replicated by host since it required custom asset
so it makes sense shoutboard got updated since it was put into approved
might as well do it to full extent then

Was it just some optimization or what made it possible
a feature i had that was supposed to improve the framerate was actually reducing it by like 25%. I also fixed a bug where scouts flaregun wasn't turning off so it would cause lag and then i adjusted the flare radius because it was way too big
the "optimization" was mostly me fixing my stupid broken code

when i try to bind a shout when you ping a teammate - i have it set to "You're cute"
but when i press the keybind, it randomizes to a different shout
a shout is a random set of voice lines. there is no way to play an individual voice line
there is with custom data asset but you have to be hosting or replicate from host
as long as i can spam goo sack, i'll take it

its as simple as it can get, binds cooked in, half of lines are ctrl + number, etc

Hey, back with another question. With the more players balenced mod, it says there can only be 7 other people on the lobby yet I can set it to 16 max players, same thing with the swarm control mod.
Does that mean the other 8 players have to join mod mission? Also, can I have 16 players in my session with the swarm control mod enabled? Just abit confused
What I should really ask is: Is there a up to date mod that allows 20+ people to join into the spacerig at once and is compatible with swarm control and Mission Director?

I think that's what Reapeeron on yt uses. Only 7 players can be in the space rig but the others can join once the mission is underway for a minute
When the mission ends, do the people who join in mid mission get kicked out since the spacrig can only hold 7 people or do they spawn in with you?
The space rig can hold any amount of ppl. But if you try to load into a new mission with more than 8 ppl it will crash every time.
the spacerig can hold (afaik) an infinite amount of people

what's that about
tl;dr if you want to earn achievements/level in a vanilla friendly way, only use verified mods
mods that change gameplay (stats, values, etc.) that are not strictly cosmetic/visual are approved mods
and mods that are so radical you need a seperate save file are sandbox mods
verified = vanilla, legit
approved = semi-vanilla, interfere with achievements
sandbox = the wild west of modding

after you launch once in safe mode it should disable all your mods, then hopefully when you restart in not safe mode the mod should update when it forcibly installs everything
