Unlike most gunner primaries, it's designed around precision rather than volume of fire. The belt fed system operates rather slowly so it has a sort of revolver cylinder that the rounds are loaded into from the belt and then are fired. It fires in semi-auto and can fire quickly in short bursts, but needs time to reload each chamber. Of course, to compensate for it's sluggish fire rate, the damage per shot is staggering.

I think you could rehash this to be more of a tank cannon, @keen ibex.
And by tank cannon, I mean the head of a tank where it fires at a sluggish fire rate being a shot per second, maybe go in an arc, but the explosion and damage is giant. If you wanted to fire it, keep it away from yourself and lob the shots at groups of enemies to get the best results

One of the ideas I have is that the ammunition it fires can be changed between two modes, one mode explodes violently when it hits weakpoints, the other pierces through enemies and ricochets.

Although now that I think about it, this might stray away from the ethos of the weapon, which is that it's meant to excel at damaging big targets, but requires careful pacing of your shots against groups.
