Not a dumb question in DRG's case! Because DRG is a Play Anywhere title, you can download the version from the Microsoft Store on your PC. And because DRG has Xbox cloud saves, when you launch the Microsoft version on PC it will download your cloud save (and if it doesn't, there's a Restore Save feature in the Option menu). This will get your save onto your PC. From there, you can check the pinned messages in this channel to find directions on manually copying your save file from the Microsoft Store version to the Steam version

To be safe, I would make backups of save files even if I didn't plan on trying that, but I would think it won't work well. I would not try to transfer back until both platforms are on the same version. Furthermore, it has been mentioned that using mods on the Steam version and then trying to copy the save back to the Microsoft version has caused problems, so I would think that being on a newer update could also cause problems, but I'm not aware of anyone having mentioned trying it.

Theoretically, you could make backups as I suggested and test it out, but I'm not advocating for anyone to do that. Also, you can just play with your friend without copying your save back. You'll still have everything you had last time you played the Microsoft version (provided you copied the file and didn't just move it or delete it for some reason -- again, always make backups)

I know folks were mentioning that there seemed to be some server/network issues yesterday, and its possible that the new update, despite only being for Steam so far, has thrown things a little out of whack, though that's pure speculation on my part. Dwarf levels only matter up to the first time you get to level 25 though. It doesn't take too long to do that, but I totally understand folks have varying amounts of free time and sometimes you just would like a boost

That said, if you want to do it legit and quick, just rush the primary and the secondary objectives (secondary only if it's easy and fast to do, don't spend forever hunting down an errant fossil) and ignore everything else.

You get the most XP just for completing the objectives, everything else is a small bonus, relatively speaking. Play on the highest difficulty you can do quickly, even if that's just Haz 2. The fun and challenge will be in optimizing your runs, not the difficulty of the missions.

Pick quick missions: 200 morkite, 4 eggs, 7 aquarq, etc. and small caves when possible. You can get 3 or 4 missions done in an hour that way. Your friend can be 25 with one dwarf in a couple of hours. I know that's not super quick, but once that first dwarf is done, you're over the hump and everything is available. Then you can work on your friend's assignments

Beating the Korlok (if one spawns) is a good bit of XP as well, and if you wake it up it will fight you even if you don't fight it (until you move far enough away)

And I think the highest XP you can get without events may be a 400 Morkite mission with a double XP mutator and some Dark Morkite beer. It'll take a bit longer than a quick mission, but the XP is kinda worth the time

Theres not really anything to fix, because they don't expect you to buy the game from Microsoft and from Steam. The fact that you can copy your save file is kinda an unofficial feature. It's not straightforward though, so it can be a little confusing and you may need to check some Windows settings to be able to follow the instructions.

You're on Xbox, right?

Download DRG from the Microsoft Store. Launch DRG to make it sync and retrieve your cloud save file. If it doesn't automatically load your save game, you can use the Restore Save feature in the Options menu.

Once you've done that and have your save in the PC version from the Microsoft Store you're good to go on following the instructions.

You may have to go into the File Explorer Options (search for this from the Windows Start menu to get there quickly) and check the View tab to make sure "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" is selected and "Hide extensions for known file types" is deselected in order to find the folders and correctly rename the files necessary.

Microsoft thinks it needs to save you from yourself so it hides things from you by default to make things "easier" for less experienced folks. But it makes it hard to do anything that is the tiniest bit advanced when you need to, since it never tells you about any of that.

Hopefully it's not too hard to do now that you can find everything you need. Just make sure that you rename the file to the exact name and extension (the .sav on the end of the file name) to make sure it works right. You can't have two files with the same name in the same folder, so you'll have to either rename or remove the Steam save in order to rename the Windows save

I usually just add a .backup on the end of my Steam file name (after the .sav) so I don't mess anything up with the name

The Xbox save will be a file with a long set of letters and numbers as the name. It should have a little blank white rectangle icon, kinda like a piece of paper with the top right corner folded down

The trouble is the coming big update likely builds off of what we have now, which I suspect got us sort of caught up with Steam (minus the modding support) so that our code isn't too different in preparation for Update 35 or was in some way simply needed for Update 35. I could be wrong, but that was the feeling I got at the time. Rolling back to the pre-pre-Halloween version would then mean they might have a ton of work to do over again to build Update 35 for our version, since for at least the past few weeks they've been able to assume what they're building will be going on top of the pre-Halloween update. I suspect we'd be in for at least a few additional weeks of waiting for Update 35 at that point.

It's probably better that they get Update 35 to us, and then go in and try to fix things up after the dust settles. Hopefully that's already their plan and they've taken notes from what we've mentioned, but I still have the links to the messages from when I was doing some testing and will be ready to share them again if needed

I have not done much at all with 3D rendering, but I suspect nvidia has made it relatively easy to add DLSS to a game that is already using DirectX and probably Vulkan. I also suspect that making DLSS work well, and look good, and not cause unintended side-effects is the hard part

But only since the introduction of DLSS 2.0. DLSS 1.0 required having AI build a profile for each specific game. In that case, adding DLSS to a game was a whole lot harder

The sweet spot right now really seems to be 1440p. That gets you a good resolution at a good framerate for most games at their highest quality settings (with a high-end gpu). Even a 3080 will not be able to do 4k 60fps in every game

It's new tech. It always takes a while to start showing up in games. Games take a long time to make, and when you're close to release you can't often afford to stop everything to add in some hot new tech. So the new tech makes it into games that are a little further out, like coming out in a year or two at the earliest

That's why there's not a ton of games coming out now that can just add support for DLSS 2.0 or FSR before they release

The tech is always a couple years ahead of most of the games. You'll get a major marquee release or two to show it off, but it'll be several years before it's become a common feature

Well, it all depends on how the game writes the save file. Does it completely overwrite the existing file when it saves, or does it merely change or add specific data without altering the rest of the file? Not important, but very different things could happen

Basically, there's no guarantees on when, unless the devs get it through certification and then hold it from distribution until a set launch time. And the devs usually want us to get it as soon as it's available, so they dont hold it just to meet a specific time

That also means there's a world where it doesn't get to us on the 18th, but I know the devs will do everything they can to minimize that possibility

Yep, you can move from the Microsoft Store version to Steam without issues. It's been tested both ways and seems to work well despite being on different Updates. It's just the mods on Steam that may cause issues

Only thing to be aware of is going from Steam to Microsoft and then back to Steam, it will not save your progress in the season pass, but it shouldn't break anything

Having problems playing the game in 4K on Game Pass. Had issues in the Steam version too but I could find and edit the GameUserSettings.ini file and sort it out. Problem is all my friends play on the Game Pass version and I can't find any saved settings file anywhere, not in WindowsApps\CoffeeStainStudios.DeepRockGalactic_1.34.60832.0_x64__496a1srhmar9w folder or the %localappdata%Packages\CoffeeStainStudios.DeepRockGalactic_496a1srhmar9w\ either.
Can anyone shed some light?
By not being able to use 4K, I mean in the game I select the setting and the screen flickers and ends up back at 1080p. That's in fullscreen mode. In windowed mode or borderless window mode, It'll be a 1920x1080 sized window on my 3840x2160 desktop.

I've never tried playing at 4k as I lack a 4k display, but I thought fullscreen mode locked to your resolution, either the monitors native resolution or the resolution you have set in Windows (I'm not sure which, but the resolution set in Windows makes slightly more sense to me). Maybe nibbles, when he's around, will be able to offer some advice for 4k.

As for a settings file to edit, I'm not sure if we know where that is. I've never seen it. Stuff from the Microsoft Store is oddly packaged up and hard to work with. It is possible there is nothing that is like a traditional .ini file that you can easily edit.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance, but hopefully someone can offer more info regarding playing at 4k

so i just reported a player for killing me on purpose. he chased me around shooting me until i was dead. managed to kick him but i did not get the Bosco rez, sad. I just noticed that the XBOX PC app did not have a report option for grieving, the closet thing i think was cheating but that is not really what happened. I just used "other" and explained what he did. Microsoft should have an option for "ruined the game experience or grieving players" I'm guessing he or she was a child who did not care, so I hope they get banned off the app for a week. I should of said something in chat to confirm if they were really playing the game or not. oh and this troll attacked me during a wave.

If I'm not mistaken, updates usually get out to us around noon-ish EST, give or take a few hours. Updates have typically been "ready when they're ready," where as soon as they pass Microsoft certification and distributed to Microsoft servers they become available. The devs have not been in the habit of holding things just back to target a specific release time, and they seem to work up until the deadline they've given themselves to make everything the best it can possibly be

Yes, it should be the 18th. That's the plan. However, if the devs submit the update to Microsoft for certification on the 18th and if everything goes smoothly, it should be available about 4 - 6 hours after they submit. If it doesn't go smoothly, things are less predictable and it is unlikely (but within the realm of possibility) that we do not get the update on the 18th at all. I know the devs will do everything possible to make sure that the update gets to us without issue on the 18th.

This is just speculation that I am providing to give folks some background on the process at is has happened historically; this update may be handled differently and I have no official info about how this update specifically is being handled.

Plan on the 18th. Anticipate availability around the early afternoon EST on the 18th, give or take a few hours. Prepare for the fact that nothing is ever 100% certain...

It seems to me that it is extremely unlikely that it won't be available by Friday. We did have one update previously (quite a while back, now) that was still stuck in the certification process for about two weeks after it was originally submitted for certification. So things can happen, but it seems extremely unlikely
