Steam Deck runs SteamOS which is based on Arch Linux. As a result you'll need to use the Proton compatibility layer for it to run. I've been playing DRG on Linux for the past couple of months with really no issues. I should add that this is for the steam version of the game. You won't be able to play the microsoft copy without either streaming it or installing windows 10 onto the deck.

Hi there, need some advice. Seems that the Steam version of DRG cannot cross play with Xbox1.

Let's just say I throw money at this problem....

My xbox live account already own DRG. Would I have to "buy as gift" using separate Live ID and install it on PC. (Provided I uninstall the Steam version.)
Further, how could I keep all my progress that I've accumulated on the Steam version of DRG?

If you already own it on Xbox, you just need to log into your Microsoft Account (or link your Xbox account to your Microsft Account if you haven't already) on your Windows PC. You will be able to download it for free from the Microsoft Store

Ah, okay. There are ways to family share a title, such as setting your console as your primary device and then logging into the account that owns the game on another console. Another account can then play on your primary device, while the game owning account can play on the secondary device.
However, I don't think you can do that 3 ways

wait what? Well, My kids are already on my family group. I log into xbox A and then switch to kid's account. I login as me (Owner of the game) into xbox B and tried to play DRG, but the DRG on xbox A gets kicked.

I haven't used Family Share myself, but that was how it was explained to me. It's possible that it may not work for every game.
However, in that scenario, I would try having Xbox A be the host for the game. I'm not sure if it would make a difference, but it might

OK! Game sharing works! Set one xbox as "Home Xbox" (Anyone can now play all the games installed - maybe, but worked with DRG) and the other Xbox logged in as the DRG game owner. We were able to join / party the same game.

Now figure out how to have the PC join with two Xbox One - maybe I "buy as gift" and install with a new Live ID...

I do suspect another copy on another account would be needed for the PC to join as well. However, you do not need Xbox Live Gold to play from PC, so simply buying the game from the Microsoft Store from an account other than your Xbox account would be all you'd need

Yeah, the MS desktop DRG version forces you to use a Live ID. If you don't use a live ID that owns the game, it won't let you continue. If you use the Live ID that owns the game, it tells you that you are logged in on another device and asked to kick.

Here is a problem with looking for group on windows 10. How to join an LFG on a Windows 10 PC

From anywhere on your desktop: Press Windows Key + G (you may need to enable the Game Bar from your PC’s System Settings)
An overlay will appear: Click the Widget Menu and select “Looking for Group”
Select a compatible PC Title you would like to play
Search through posts for a group you would like to play with

DRG is not a compatible game for gamebar

Developers would have to add more code line to support that feature

A lot of friends Series S/X Haven't been able to run the only game most of my friends play, Elite Dangerous. Some got replacement units (somehow) and fixed the issue. Ran other games fine, just chugged hard or straight crashed on start up with that one. Incredibly wack.

HDR only sucks for me on red dead online when I kill an animal and it’s suppose to show up as white but it shows up as light yellow and it looks like a legendary animal kill when it’s a normal animal kill.

I run it on an older 6 core with less than 30% usage at 60fps, you could probably run this game on as little as 2 cores with no issue

I’m wondering since I’m on Microsoft version if there’s a difference between steam and Microsoft because right now on an intel i7 7700K it runs between 10-101 FPS and I remember Jacob saying DRG is mostly dependent on CPU vs GPU

My wife and I just started dipping our toes into Haz 5 on xbox. Both around level~200ish. Usually complete Haz 4 without much difficulty.

But interested in teaming up with another person or two wanting to take on Haz 5. (sometimes have another friend who plays). We've been able to complete most of the missions we've ran, but stuck to easier ones or ones with helpful modifiers (like low grav). So not even bothered with elim or Escort.

I run primarily gunner but have no problem playing driller on higher Hazards. She is most comfortable with scout but can play everything but gunner. My other friend is almost always engineer but they don't always play. Basically we're fine if you're most comfortable with a specific class. I'm also not a class lock kind of guy - think doubling up can be fun as it presents new challenges. Especially double gunners for the firepower.

You don't have to be able to do Haz 5. If you're comfortable regularly playing at 4, that's fine. We're still getting the hang of 5. If we die and fail a few missions that's okay. We just want someone in a party we can communicate with.

Probably running missions around 7ish Central time so feel free to DM if you want to give it a go.

The core game and addon content included in 'ultimate editions' are considered separate in the Microsoft store. If you already have the core game, the ultimate edition should just install the addon packs, and leave DRG itself, along with your save data untouched. It's not like a completely separate game that would install in place of what you have already

Yup! There's two versions of the game:

Xbox/and Microsoft Store on PC. Those can play with each other.

If you buy on Xbox you can also download and play it on your computer through the Play Anywhere program.

Then there's the Steam version.

Here's a few of my personal tips. Feel free to @ me or DM if you have any specific questions.

If someone is repeatedly pinging something, look and see. If they're running up to you ask if you have a special ability that might aid in getting said thing (like zip line or platforms).

Until you get good, try and stick with team mates when a swarm comes.

Think before you call the pod. Is everyone together? Would a resupply be helpful? Is there a really tall hole you'd have to clime up - then it might be smarter to clime up before calling so you don't get knocked off a zip line.

Always be thinking about the terrain, and how transforming it can benefit you. Maybe knocking out some crystals to clear a line of sight during a swarm. Digging out a small alcove to help hide from spitters if things get rough. When you dig through a tunnel, turning around and seeing if you can get back up without having to dig stairs or make taller - you'll likely have to go back up after calling the pod.

Aside from point extraction, the game doesn't punish you too bad for taking your time at lower levels, however every game has a "point of no return" where eventually enemies can exceed your ammo if you're too slow. You don't have to speed run, but always be thinking about how you can speed things up or be quicker.

I'd work towards promoting 1 character first so you can unlock stuff, but then give the rest of the classes a try. Even if you only like one, understanding the capabilities of each make you a team player.

My advice for starting out is this: you'll see an assignment terminal by the mission select map. Follow all the assignments as they'll unlock and help guide your progression.

Focus on leveling up one character to 25 so you can do what's called a promotion. This will unlock a bunch of content. It's okay to try a few missions with each class, but it won't take too long so just stick with it and then you can mess around.

Once you get to level 25 and promote. Do the Weekly Deep Rives and Core Hunt assignments. This will help you unlock special weapon upgrades and cosmetics.

Try and get comfortable playing Hazard 3 as quickly as possible. Most new people can handle it and it gives you extra xp.

Bright glowy stuff = Weakspot
Dark colored stuff = Armor

Learn about each bug, they can be stupidly easy to kill once you learn some things about each one.

Keep an ear out, never know when you hear a “Screeee” of a Grabber and not acknowledge it.

Keep an eye to the ceiling, lots of new players I met often get screwed over by those damned cave leeches.

Learn each weapon, knowing how they work can be a difference between success and total annihilation.

What seems to happen is sessions become desynced after a random period of time (sometimes only a mission, sometimes after several hours), which can then cause some members of a team to be unable join or invite, but when everyone restarts the game it fixes the desync. It's only really inconvenient when you're in the middle of a mission and someone wants to join or rejoin, but missions are usually pretty quick so it's not usually too long a wait to be able to restart and get everyone back in.

When you restart, make sure that everyone loads fully into the space rig and can run around before anyone attempts to invite or join. That should help as well, although I think things are working a bit better in that regard

I can't seem to find an answer to that question, so I'm going to assume that yes, they do have a limit, but it's a very high limit so it doesn't usually pose an issue.

That said, Clubs still exist, but it almost seems like Microsoft has forgotten them. On PC, they are only accessible via the old Xbox Companion App which itself tells you to use the newer Xbox App, but Clubs are not available in the newer app or in the Game Bar. I'm guessing on console they're move visible/easier to interact with?

Anyhow, the only thing I can suggest is to try to maybe cancel the request and send a new request. I'm not sure how many people are active in the club, but at one point it did seem like it might be a good way to group up

Clubs seem like a decent idea that people have (or at least had) been using. I just looked, and the Official Deep Rock club has 64000+ people in it. How many are still active is of course a relevant question, but it does show that there has been a not-insignificant amount of interest in the club

Also make sure Deep Rock Galactic is allowed to use your microphone in Windows settings.

You can click on the Start menu and search "microphone privacy settings" (without the quotation marks) to quickly get to the Windows settings page that let's you configure which apps can use your microphone

the reason i disabled it was party chat on windows 10 was trying to use steam mic to talk to people and it wasnt working so i disabled it to work with my razer mic and that fixed it

I encounter a problem to play from win11.
I can play Sea of Thieves online, but in drg I can't join a party, a friend etc. in solo mode no problem.
I uninstall the game and Xbox app, clean registry and download them after reboot. I check the version status...
Have you any idea to help me ? 🙂

Check the Date & Time settings in Windows and make sure "Set time automatically" and "Set time zone automatically" are both turned on.

If that doesn't do it, look through the pinned messages in this channel if you haven't already and check the connection issues stuff.

Also, make sure everyone is fully loaded into the space rig and able to run around before attempting to join or send/accept an invite. If the options to join/invite are grayed out, have everyone who is trying to play together fully exit and relaunch the game.

Windows 11 is rather still buggy and developers haven’t had time to develop the game to work great/well on windows 11 so I would recommend playing DRG on windows 10

Ah, yes, I missed where they mentioned trying to play on Windows 11. Yeah, I'd say that's absolutely going to cause problems with some games. Or, at least, I'd be surprised if it didn't cause some problems, especially in the case of games from the Microsoft Store that rely on Xbox services which might not be 100% ready to go in Windows 11 yet

Yeah, I'll check all the update. The problem : When I launch the game, I can't invite or join a group / party. If you know the UI, the "Press [C] to invite friend" doesn't appear in the upper-left corner, under your character.
With the Steam version, I don't have the problem. When I play on Sea of Thieves, Forza H4 or M7, I can play online...
Maybe it's a "non-interact" between Xbox Live and the game. Waiting for update. 😉

If you haven't yet, definitely check that your system clock is set to the correct time. It's a funny thing, but if your clock isn't correct it will prevent you from joining other players. I assume this will affect DRG on Windows 11, and it absolutely affects DRG on Windows 10

I've noticed it less as not registering the click than I have as it un-holding a click. What myself and friends have experienced entirely too often is holding down "fire" with the minigun/auto-cannon, flamethrower, or breach cutter with "Return to Sender" overclock and having the weapon start firing for a moment before discontinuing firing while the left mouse button is still held down

Oh yeah, scout grapple is rough when it happens; everything else you can let go and start firing again right away when you notice it happen

It's mostly annoying when you're surrounded by a swarm and need to get out of there ASAP but your grapple just won't work. Or when your suddenly falling and can't grapple and die to fall damage.

Though until it get's fixed, I just like to pretend that the weapons/tools are jamming and then curse R&D for it, lol.

I used to play on Xbox, but got a better comp lately and been playing it through windows, and I didn't have any issues with it on console.

is it actually possible to use ingame voice com on PC? I tried to fix it long ago but then just assumed it was unfixable about a year ago and never tried again haha. I can see when people are trying to talk but have never been able to communicate unless we get in a party.

It sort of was possible, but not cross-platform. On PC, I could hear friends in-game who were also on PC and it always resulted in double audio since we were always already in a party, but I could not hear folks on Xbox. My friend on Xbox, however, could hear folks who were also on Xbox, but he'd never get the double audio from those of us on PC.

I can't personally say if it's gotten better as I haven't tried too much, but I think things did change, so it may have improved. It seems like when people play with random folks they don't use the in-game voice chat too much, so I've not had much natural opportunity to test things out. Luckily the ping and salute does a great job at getting most messages across (provided folks are paying attention, of course)

It's kinda amazing how effective they can be. A testament to good game design that everything is simple enough to understand with just a couple of intuitive tools like the scanner and the dwarf outlines providing some visual language and a good old shout for emphasis

It's really funny being in a mission with a grey beard after playing with a Greenbeard. The level of teamwork and communication even without mics is usually night and day.

I was playing a particular Aquark mission as a scout and couldn't get plats from the single bronze engineer so I was trying to make do. They ended up leaving and were replaced by a legendary engineer.

I pinged a far off Aquark and immediately zipped up to it to power attack land but hand a platform underneath me by the time I got there.

Yeah I really enjoy Haz 3 too. But my wife and friends want to play Haz 4 or 5 usually. Usually if I'm up playing late by myself I like to browse the server list for Haz 3, refining, late game with no driller, and come in and save the day for teams that can't get a jack connected. Usually it's total Greenbeards or just people screwed without any driller.

He has no issues in other multiplayer games, and even in Deep Rock Galactic, he never had this issue before, it is just recent thing this error (started like month ago). Also he is playing on Xbox. Ran into two players I'd played with before on Haz 5 tonight. It was pretty fun. One of them we regularly play with so was surprised when they dropped in because usually we invite each other. The other was a diamond level gunner (whose name my wife says is a Diary of a Wimpy Kid reference).

One of our earlier missions, we were running classes that we didn't play as much, just switching things up due to promotion assignments.

We encountered a Bet-C and in the middle a Dreadnought spawned. Haz 5, Shield Disruption/Cave Leach modifiers. It got really freaking dicey. Pretty sure at least once we all went down and had to use iron will. One of the more intense moments.

Because we were playing other classes we didn't really has the high single target DPS builds for the Dread/BET-C so it was a slog.

It didn't instantly uninstall itself from every PC on the planet at that time; there's just no longer any updates or security patches being made, so it can potentially become a vector for malware (in Flash's case, I'm guessing that happened within days of EOL). Folks might still have it installed, and I'm sure you can go to websites that are still serving up Flash files, but it's probably not a great idea to do any of that these days

UWP games function significantly differently. Their file structure is a bit different than your typical game, and there doesn't seem to be a main executable file, rather a UWP executable that links to all the game data.

Thus, if you have something like a keyboard or mouse that can be triggered to switch to different control profiles based on whether or not you're running a certain executable (for most games this would be a unique, game-specific primary .exe file), for UWP apps that becomes tricky. A UWP app or game will run a generic UWP .exe -- the same .exe for all (or maybe just many, I'm not certain) UWP apps -- and you keyboard or mouse profile switcher won't know if you're playing that one game where you want things configured differently or just using an app like Netflix

Had a particularly meh experience with some randoms in a Escort Double XP.

Was on my way to refuel Doretta and one of the drillers was shooting down spires between me and the shale. So I wait until he was done and continue, then as I'm going across they shoot one down right on top of me.

A little bit later a swarm comes and I see a grabber start to go up to the ledge he is on. Not my finest moment, but I let it grab him and waited until after it was up high and shot him down to his doom. I can definitely accept blame there for being a little petty.

Well later we pass an OMEN tower right before the heartstone. I type in chat, "Want to wait until after the heartstone to try the tower?" to which the other two reply with hearty ROCK & STONE's.

We get in the room and start doing things but that driller was in the other room continuously pinging the tower. After a bit I go to type again but mid sentence I hear the tower start up and it says he leave the game.

Needless to say, even though it was not my game, I went and blocked him after.

And that is my bit of tea for the evening. 🍵

Click Start
Search for "file explorer options" (without quotes)
On the "View" tab, make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unselected/unchecked
Click Apply and you should now see the file name plus the file extension

The Microsoft version does not have an extension, and the Steam version has a .sav extension. When you copy the the file to the appropriate folder, you must make sure that the file name and file extension exactly match the file you're replacing. In your case, when you rename the save file you need to make sure you add the .sav on the end

You need to rename the Microsoft file to match the Steam file name. In this case you want to name the Microsoft file "76561198355829109_Player.sav" (without the quotes). In order to do this, you must either delete or rename the Steam file with this name because you cannot have two files with the same name and extension in the same folder.

I usually just add ".BACKUP" (without the quotes) after the .sav of the Steam file, but you can just delete it if you want

When you say moved Deep Rock onto the new drive, did you manually copy the files, or uninstall and reinstall on the new drive? I'm assuming uninstall and reinstall, and I would think that would be okay. I'd try another uninstall and reinstall if you haven't already. Thankfully (and unlike sonmany games these days) reinstalling is pretty quick because it's a small download

It certainly is not impossible to create a save and settings export/import feature, but I have to imagine the number of people who would benefit from it is relatively low compared to the total number of players. Sure, there's a not insignificant amount of people who transfer save data between versions, but when deciding what to devote time and resources on it makes sense to choose things that'll affect most/all players. So maybe one day, if little quality-of-life things make sense to spend some time on, we'll see something like that

Sorry, that was mostly a comment about a previous topic, haha. It would be nice if Steam had cross-play, but there are valid reasons why it doesn't and probably won't for some time if ever.

Not only would taking time to build a cross-play system slow down development, but having cross-play would also slow down development as the devs would have to make sure every update was ready for every platform at the same time, and then if bugs needed to be patched all of the patches would have to be ready at the same time, meaning updates and patches would be delayed significantly (part of that is because of the Xbox certification process which can take anywhere from hours to days)

Not to mention things like Unions and the slightly more complex cave generation that the Steam version enjoys would probably have to go away to make everything compatible

#

The devs would lose a significant amount of agility that the current methods allow for. To me, it does sound like the devs have made the best choice for DRG, even if it's a bit disappointing that there's no cross-play

The devs showed off some more stuff in their live stream this week. I believe it was one of the new weapons, but I haven't watched it myself. The live streams are probably the best place to catch little bits of info, but they'll make an announcement for anything important
