If they held the Steam version until the Xbox/Windows Store versions were ready, all that would change is we'd get the first update at the same time as Steam. Steam would still get the series of hotfixes quicker, and we'd be left waiting for a patch to fix whatever new bugs the update would introduce. So we'd likely be stuck with potential problems for that same 1 - 2 weeks as we currently wait now, but the game might not work as well. The way things are, sure we have to wait for the new stuff, but it gets to us polished and in the meantime we can still play DRG without problems.
(Yes, I realize that all of this is hypothetically speaking, as there are significant issues affecting the Xbox and Windows Store versions currently, but that is not related to GSG's update strategy. Hopefully the update to fix these issues is available this week.)

I wanna say sorry for a lot earlier as I was having a bad morning/day. Almost everything is breaking from my moms Mac mini to needing to have roof looked at and we are going to need roof company plus solar company come out and that’s going to cost over 10k. I went from trying to get steamos to work for my mom to now using chrome book instead of buying a new Mac mini. It seems this week everything is going downhill. So short version is I’m sorry.

Long story short: the devs have already fixed the issue and have been submitting the patch to Microsoft for certification. It will be available as soon as it passes certification, which should be any day now

It is. At least for the time being. Dealing with console makers adds a lot of overhead to the development process. Microsoft won't allow devs to add user accessible verbose logs, so users on its platforms are limited in how much feedback they can provide when there are problems. And with the new consoles coming out next month, everything is taking longer

the problem is around 12-18 years ago Mediacom decided to completely rework the wiring of their network and put the street I live on at the end of a node, meaning if anyone in the area has internet problems, we also have internet problems.

This update is a major rework of the game that only applies to Xbox and Windows Store versions, so any other update procedure you're used to does not apply here. They tried to avoid this, but it was not possible to fix the many issues affecting the Xbox and Windows Store versions without doing it this way

Short answer: because the windows store sucks
Long answer: because the windows store probably lacks some feature the xbox has which eliminates that requirement.
It may be something as simple as forcing an update on xbox, where as on windows store I think you can delay actually updating.

@obsidian forum The thing is, the issues haven't affected everyone the same. My friend and I can play for hours with no problems as long as I don't host, and as long as the texture bug doesn't get him. If the texture bug pops up, we exit out, maybe reboot his Xbox (and my PC if I have trouble reconnecting, very rare for me but it happens), and start a new mission. We lose a few minutes of game time (but it's never more than a few minutes), but it's infrequent enough that it's not too bothersome. I know other folks have it way worse, or have less free time to spend enjoying games and would rather not waste it on something that isn't working right, which is completely understandable. It's worked for us though, and I'm very glad it should be working for everyone by the time I wake up tomorrow

The nice thing about drg compared to those other games is that you don't have to play during the Halloween event. You might miss one extremely easy to get cosmetic and some pumpkin kicking, but that's nothing compared to my experience with the lootbox hell that is overwatch

In the Windows Store, if you click the three-dot drop down menu button in the top right, and then select "Downloads and updates" it should take you to a screen that shows your most recent downloads. What number does it say for version number (the middle column with all the numbers)?
If it doesn't say 1.31.44547.0, then you probably just have to wait for the update to be available

Regarding the audio issues. Some of those were initially present on U32 on the experimental branch. They’ve since been patched out. I don’t know if y’all will get a hot fix for those or if you’ll just have to wait for U32 to drop.

I got the update now, not that it has helped. Was really hoping that this update would finally let me play this game again after switching to PC from console around 2 months ago. Before todays update I would be able to join matches but lose connection to the server within 2-5 minutes without fail, now I can't even get that far. I get stuck loading and followed by the disconnected from server error.

It does sounds as though some folks are still having trouble, but I (PC) was able to crossplay with my friend (Xbox) earlier today, and random folks were able to join us on missions. Interestingly, he could not join me, the option was not available, but I was able to join him with no problem
I know this doesn't really help anyone who is experiencing issues at the moment, but it is confirmation that it does work (in at least some circumstances)

I'm not sure what the pause menu looks like on Xbox, but on PC it has the version number in the bottom left corner. The version number should be 1.31.44547.0

Gotcha. That's frustrating. I'm not sure what else to try. I suppose it's possible that all of Microsoft's servers haven't been updated yet, at which point all that can really be done is wait. However, that does seem unlikely since the update's been available for about 12 hours now. I'm not sure what else to suggest. Windows Store is really not user friendly and as a platform it obfuscates so much as to make figuring out stuff like this damn near impossible. The only things that I can think of that are left to try are things like making sure Windows itself is up-to-date

Yeah... I wish I had better answers. I'm having a hard time even searching for answers that could be somewhat related, because this seems like a problem that shouldn't be able to happen. The only thing I can think of -- if it's not something on your end (and I can't guess what that could be at this point) -- is somehow this is on Microsoft's end and the update isn't available on the server you getting connected to. I'm sorry I don't have better answers. Perhaps the devs might have a better understanding of how all this works, but I don't think their workday has begun quite yet

I suspect, but I can't prove, that the system in place to prevent different versions of the game from joining each other has failed on the update version. These networking issues were solved on the insider branch a few weeks ago.

Each random encounter item (lost equipment, cargo crate, machine event) have their own reward list. You might have all from one of the encounters, but the other two will keep going until you have all of the stuff from those specific reward lists

No problem at all. And congrats on getting all the fun lost equipment stuff! I'm not sure how the new cosmetics in Update 32 are earned, but it's possible that you'll need to keep an eye out for lost equipment again soon. I wouldn't be surprised if the devs increase the rewards lists with future updates
