They could choose to make the consoles more expensive, or they could choose to make the games more expensive, but no one would buy games or consoles then. People are way more okay with $10 - $20 every month than they are with a console that costs $1500 - $2000 at launch (which is how much 7 years of online play plus a brand new console costs)

Yes, if you play the Microsoft version on an Xbox console.
No, if you play the Microsoft version on a Windows PC.

For some reason, Microsoft does not require Live/Game Pass for Windows players to play multiplayer games; it is only a requirement for console players (and it's nto required for console games that are Free-to-Play games)

If you own the Microsoft version, you can play on both console and PC, and switch between the two whenever you like and progress should automatically transfer between the two. And, you can play with anyone who also has the Microsoft version, regardless of whether they're on console or PC

When logging into my xbox account on my laptop, it obviously doesnt show it because it is game pass ultimate and not on my pc game pass, which i dont have. So, if i buy drg on either device, will it also pass on to be played and owned on my laptop in the xbox app? And if i buy it there, will it be my original save? And lastly, if i buy it on my console, will it appear in my xbox library on the laptop

Unless they've changed something, Game Pass Ultimate includes PC. So if you have Game Pass Ultimate on console, you should be all set. Just make sure you log into the Xbox App on Windows with your same account information from your console.

As long as you're logged into that same account, when you load up the game, if it doesn't automatically pull your cloud save, you can go to the in-game Options menu, then select Save Menu, then select Restore Save. This should provide you with a list of recent cloud saves that you can download to sync your progress between devices (whenever it doesn't happen automatically).

Since you have Game Pass Ultimate, you should not need to buy the game. However, to answer your question: DRG is a Play Anywhere title, meaning if you buy it on console or you buy it on PC, you own it for both

honestly im surprised DRG hasnt crashed alot more with what ive been putting the game for stress testing it like first thing was 100 bulks fine, then 200 bulks blowing up and i got the dreaded out of memory crash lol

Most of the time the console pods go unused because people will use the voice chat built into the party feature on their console rather than discord, so 2 is usually more than enough for the consoles.

When it starts and shows [screen 1], wait until the blurred picture comes up [screen 2], wait a few seconds until [screen 3] shows and then press A and the game should start normally. Hope this helps someone 👍

Any suggestions? My FPS in-game (pc) is stuck to 60 but I have the limit disabled. It's a decent PC (7600x and rx6800) and I am only playing 1080p. AMD shows my average fps as about 230 in its own performance feedback for DRG with all settings maxed. I've tried lowering all settings to min individually but it stays capped at 60. No Razer software.

Sounds like you have V-Sync turned on. V-Sync will cap your FPS to your monitor's refresh rate, which is often 60hz (hence locked at 60 fps)

Xbox/Windows only uses one save. The local save folder does not make use of multiple saves.

That said, backup saves are available in the cloud, and can be accessed using the in-game Options menu, then select Save Menu, then Restore Save. This will let you restore to an older save if any are available.

Otherwise, if you want to play with multiple save files, you can make manual backups yourself, and swap them in and out of the local save folder. However, the game is not designed for this, so save files may potentially become corrupted. I have two friends who have, at various times, messed up their Xbox/Windows saves by transferring back and forth between Xbox/Windows and Steam. Messing around with your one actual save file is only unofficially supported: it works (most of the time), but it's not specifically designed for this and things can stop working. Just something to be aware of

i see, im in a very interesting spot myself, i've had the game on steam for a while and my friends got it on xbox gamepass so i transferred my file to xbox (did this successfully)

before doing this though i played for a good 30 hours on a new save (cause xbox, new account ofc) and its nice to replay drg again. it'd just be nice to be able to play on my low level save and replay drg again but bring out the high level steam save when i need it

I'd have to suspect there's always some risk. The way Windows Store applications handle save data is not exactly set up to inspire confidence when used differently than intended (and sometimes it's not great even when used as intended, thank you Microsoft!).

But I think you can certainly try it. It's just a bit of a hassle, since you'll always want to make a current backup copy someplace to be safe, then copy the file you want to use next into the save folder (but leave its backup someplace safe in case anything goes wrong). And then you'll probably want to carefully prune old backups so you don't have a dozen files to sift through each time you're swapping.

In theory, it all works. In practice, my experience has always be that it's a bit clunky, a little tedious, and it's easy to forget to do before launching the game when you just want to hop on with friends.

You can carefully give it a go. I did something similar, when a friend bought the Steam version I started playing a fresh save with them. After a while, we were bumping up the difficulty and I wanted to be able to use my overclocks, so I started moving my Xbox save to Steam each time to have an up-to-date Steam save. After a while, I stopped bothering to update the Steam save, and just played it as it was. It was annoying to update each time. I thought about writing a batch file to automate it all, but couldn't even be bothered to do that, haha. Once I decided to stop worrying about it, I started having more fun

I am using Xbox on PC via Gamepass. Issue started 2-3 days ago. Its not consistent. It happened just now but stopped after the crash. Last night happened 2-3 times before I just used the console on the Space Rig and it worked fine. Last night I did restart my PC just to rule that out but didn't help.

Probably not corrupted save files exactly, but occasionally moving a save file from Steam to Windows simply does not work. Sometimes it's because the Steam version is a patch ahead of Xbox/Windows, but it seems to happen other times as well. Will the save transfer does mostly work, it's truly an unofficial and unsupported feature; it may be unreliable. Keep backup saves, but the Restore Save from the cloud had a lot of work put into it and is generally reliable

Hello. I'm trying to transfer a save file from Steam to the Windows Store version for crossplay. I know the folders I need to work with between Windows Store app/Steam, but when I try to transfer the file from Steam to Xbox by renaming the file, the game on Xbox doesn't recognise the transfer.

What I'm doing is selecting the file from Steam and renaming the file according to the Windows Store. I get the naming scheme after starting the game with the Xbox app and skipping the tutorial. I remove the .sav extension and simply copy the file namegenerated in the Windows Store, however the game fails to recognize this as a save file and the tutorial replays on start.

I also found an app called KarlSaver, but it doesn't function as it gives me a long error string, even though I selected the right save folders.

I'm trying to manually copy the files. Are there certain bugs with save transfers? Just unreliable?

Once an event is started with a key, you don't have to use a core for a reward. However, if you insert a blank core after the event is complete without selecting an option, the game will randomly assign you one upon reaching the space rig

Anytime a blank core is inserted, a choice must be made. Either by you or the game randomly picks.

After a few hundred levels I simply stopped selecting an option and just let the game pick something for me unless I was trying for certain classes/overclocks

It's an unofficial "feature;" it is not officially supported but is available because the save files are essentially the same. Unfortunately, sometimes it just doesn't work, usually when moving from Steam to Windows.

As for the name changing, I think it only changes the name because it's treating your file as invalid, removing it, and creating a new file. Once you have a working file, I don't recall the name changing. It's been a while since I've moved saves though, so I might be misremembering

The community has figured out how to add mods to the Xbox/Windows Store version (only on Windows PCs, not on consoles), but these are not officially supported in any way. Partially because the console makers would require most mods to be verified and approved and that would take too much work, it is extremely unlikely that mods will officially be supported on consoles. It is also unlikely that there will ever be official mod support for the Windows Store version

One of my friends is in someone else's public mission. I've been trying to join them through the Xbox friends list since it gives me the option to join their game as if there is a spot open. Every time, the game loads for a few seconds, then tells me "Multiplayer session ended," and then I go back to my own space rig. This has been the case for several months now.

There is a session desync issue. If a group has been playing for a while, they can become desynced, and they will be unable to invite anyone and you will be unable to join them. The only way to fix it would be to have them disband the party.

After disbanding the party, or exiting and relaunching the game, joining and invites should work again

Game content is pretty much entirely the same.
However, the Steam version supports:

• More complex cave generation. The consoles, at least the last gen ones, are not powerful enough to handle the more complex generation (I assume due to memory limits and/or processing power).

• Mods. The console makers heavily restrict mods on their platforms. Currently, in order for mods to be used on consoles, mods are either extremely limited in what they can do (like limited to only being new skins/textures), or mods must be reviewed and approved by the dev team -- a huge, practically impossible amount of work, especially for a small team.

• Unions. Unions is an unfinished, essentially prototype 'feature' that integrates with discord and allows players to select one of three Unions to join. Periodically, based on how your chosen union performs randomly assigned objectives (like kill 1000s of Spitball Infectors, etc.), everyone in the union is awarded a handful of extra minerals and credits. It includes absolutely no gameplay or content, and the bonus minerals and credits are only small quantities rewarded once every few weeks. It's really not anything to be missed.

Steam is the only version with the more complex cave generation. The current gen console versions are essentially the same as the previous gen console versions, with maybe a few small changes to take advantage of the new hardware where possible. The console versions would not be able to do cross-gen multiplayer if the newer consoles did something the older console couldn't handle.

If you've used mods on the Steam version and you attempt to move to the Windows Store version -- which has no support for mods -- it is very likely that moving from Steam to Windows will not work.

Yep, you can and this is absolutely the way to do it.

It should automatically download your save file when you launch the Microsoft Store version, but if it doesn't you can open the in-game Options menu, select Save Menu, and then select Restore Save. You'll be able to download a cloud save file.

And, if you choose to get the Steam version, there's a way to manually copy your save files between the Microsoft Store and Steam versions. You can find those instructions in the pinned messages in this channel

Question - I had the game on Game Pass (PC), and I want to transfer my save to Steam, but the subscription has expired and I cant find how to get those files, any help?

Unfortunately, the way Microsoft stores save files locally on your PC means they do not remain when you uninstall a game. As far as I'm aware, you'll have to access the game again to get access to those files, which means you'll need to have an active Game Pass subscription or purchase the game on the Windows Store/Xbox.

Once you are able to load up the game again, it should automatically download your save file from the cloud and then you can follow the instructions in the pinned messages to transfer the save data. If your save file does not automatically download from the cloud, you can use the in-game Restore Save option to download your cloud save

The system is automatic. Make sure your PC or console is up-to-date on updates and drivers, and make sure it's connected to the internet while playing, and it should create new cloud saves. If it's not, try logging out of your account, rebooting your machine, and then launch the game and let it force you to log back into your account. Then play the game for a bit so it generates a new cloud save

Open the Xbox app on PC, log out of your account, then reboot your PC. As soon as your PC has rebooted, launch DRG. It should force you to log in to your Xbox account. Make sure you're actually logging into the same account as your Xbox

Hey, does anyone know how voice chat works ingame on Xbox? Do I need to be in an Xbox party?

It's been ages since I used in-game voice chat, but I believe it just works without being in a party, provided your settings are all set up correctly. In fact, I believe being in a party will override in-game chat and only transmit to your party.

If you're asking because you haven't heard anyone talking in-game, that's kinda normal. The Rock and Stone salute and the laser pointer pings are so versatile and generally easily understood enough that many players have never felt a pressing need to use voice chat.

Example 1: Ping some objective with the laser pointer, Rock and Stone, everyone else Rock and Stones, and you know everyone is ready to go.

Example 2: There's one pickup left on a Resupply Pod. The dwarf next to you pings it with the laser pointer. You're all set, you don't need it, so you Rock and Stone. Your fellow dwarf knows they can take it.

And it works for an endless variety of situations like those. It's incredibly versatile since at any given time and context there's never too many choices or options. It might take a little getting used to, but it can be incredibly effective and potentially faster than in-game chat

They're completely separate, so no risk of messing up progression. However, if you're looking at buying the Windows Store version to play with PS5 players, you need to know that the PlayStation version can only play with people on PlayStation consoles. There's no cross-platform support.

An incorrect clock is one of the main causes of this. Make sure your clock is set correctly. In Windows Settings, turn on Set Time Automatically and turn on Set Time Zone automatically.

If you have the clock set correctly and still encounter this issue, you may need to refresh/resync your lobby. You can select Disband Team from the Options menu, or simply exit and relaunch the game.

Also, it may sound cliche, but rebooting your PC does help with things like this when nothing else seems to work.

Ah, I gotcha. Yeah, console players have never been very active here in discord. I suspect it's because for a long time if they wanted to use discord they'd have to use their phone or have a PC nearby, and dealing with audio from multiple sources like that is troublesome.

Nowadays, the consoles have made it easier to use discord, but it's still not as easy as the built-in functionality of the consoles themselves. I don't think discord has ever caught on much with console players

The trend is pretty much if you have a PC to be using discord, you're likely going to gravitate over to the Steam version, as there are some benefits to doing so beyond just a larger player base. The Steam version supports more complex cave generation and has mod support

I think it's safe to say that if you think you'll like the game, you will like it. It's such a solid loop, and every time you load into a mission you're in a new place to explore. The community is generally pretty cool as well, so grouping up with random folks seems more consistently enjoyable than plenty of other games I've played.

And, if you do make the switch, you can transfer your progress over to Steam by moving and renaming your save file. So you won't lose anything by doing so. You can find detailed instructions in the pinned messages here
