Maybe someone here can enlighten me about playing with others? I have the Microsoft version of this game since i have the game pass for the month. I was told that the steam version isn't compatible? How do you go about inviting people from here if you don't know what version they have?

It's up in the air, nobody really posts what platform they're on (and only sometimes the region). Steam can only play with Steam, Xbox and PC can play together if it's the Microsoft Store version (GamePass for PC). Just click the little plus (if the game is linked) to the left of the text field, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to say you are using the Xbox version (And the region if you are hosting).

This channel is really only for people playing on the steam version since the discord integration lets them post invite links here. If you want people to play with who have the xbox / windows store version, #xbox-and-windows-store would be the channel to post in. We have a significantly smaller set of people on that platform here on the discord, so that channel gets used as a catch all for the platform.

I'm sad to hear that the community is kinda split up like that. Works for other games like sea of thieves but I'm not gonna sit here and pretend like I know what makes that work or not. Any plans to get that to work? Seems silly to split up the player base artificially like this.
