I don't really follow community stuff too much but I've played a lot of DRG so I'm curious on people's opinions. Rogue Core is looking to me like it's just "DRG again but slightly different". Is this not potentially problematic that it's just trying to recapture the dragon of their first game? Might it just split the development and playerbase cause it's effectively targeting the same people? (It's not advertised as DRG 2 but I think it might as well be perhaps?)

yes, this is a common concern, basically it was going to be a DRG update at first but then it was too complicated and all the mechanics were different enough (and the realization they could have more freedom with classes and weapons) to warrant this

From what I've seen it'll be a lot faster paced and harder, less of a drg 2 and more of a drg + harder edition

Quite a bit is changing beyond just the environment. Rogue Core is more centered around a roguelike gameplay loop with upgrade combinations and build potential made mid run. Also the newfound horror of the situation is a big plus imo, so rather than funny creations or situations you'd make during your mission in DRG, you're now playing closer to GTFO with the abandoned structures, machines and scarier enemies whom you'll probably never have more than exactly enough resources to deal with.

I'm sure it'll remain close to DRG more than enough though. Hollow Knight v Silksong or Blasphemous v Blasphemous 2 type situation, same organs different bones if you will.

Game's super fun, even solo, only marring thing is the game isn't really performant on low end hardware, running a Radeon 780M and Ryzen 7840HS and getting 40-50 frames with FidelityFX 3.1 and 35 without. Interpolation has an unacceptably high input delay. I'm.. fine, without FSR, and the gameplay makes up for the lag, but it's something that'd be nice to clear up before early access.

Either my own internet dies, kicking me out of any run I'm playing

or everyone crashes

usually it's either everyone except the host, or exclusively the host

and because my internet hates me right now, I cannot host without that danger of the run instantly ending for everyone

To make matters, if you crash or disconnect you CANNOT REJOIN unless there is a discord invite to that specific lobby

if you are playing with randoms? tough shit, you just wasted 30 minutes to an hour

DRG has this exact same problem, excluding crashes

Honestly? I don't expect it to happen, especially with the seemingly locked in response to late joining (never happening)

Mind you, DRG never got it outside of crashes despite being worked on over a decade now

and disconnects are by far the most complained about thing in DRG

rejoining is just late joining, except you have to had been in that lobby before. If you are already against the latter because it means you won't have the same team for an entire run, why would you then allow rejoiners to miss upgrades and have there be a power imbalance?

I should say that because late joining isn't a thing, a TON of people are not waiting for anyone and are just playing solo only

It depends on depth. If you want to do maximum friendly fire I recommend sticky grenades. They have no specific friendly fire reduction outside of the global depth level one, and deal single target damage adequate to kill a friend if you stick it on them

Damn shame both me and my mate on 1k hours in DRG whose been signed up since the start will not recieve an invite. I feel like it could give good insight for the developers to have very experienced players on board, instead of letting half the invites rot in the inventories of those who never will playtest and those who never have played DRG (I understand that they would also want the broadening picture of those uninterested in DRG)
