I wonder how the enemy spawns are planned to work, would it be announced swarms like DRG, or enemies just keep spawning progressively stronger like RoR2, or there's a limited number of enemies on each stage like Gunfire Reborn?
To me this is interesting cuz it would inform how the music should be implemented, and I'm all about that music stuff
We've of course been looking at all the co-op roguelike shooters. But I would not say that any one was the main inspiration. We are very interested in approaching this from a co-op first angle. Gunfire and Roboquest are the two main examples of coop FPS roguelites out right now.

As of Update 3 all the "objectives" aka things you can do to get expenite are optional. The only thing you NEED to do is find your way to the next elevator that can take you deeper into the dig site.

best way to look at it is that the cave gen in RC is trying to balance traversal and exploration while keeping the dwarves moving. If the caves get too big, it takes too long to explore, if too small you start losing the travesal challenges and vertivcality.

So I guess that leads me to another question in regards to traversal. I'm guessing traversal tools will be pick ups? Assuming everyone gets a pick axe, traversal tools will be an equivalent to "movement items" ie. Feathers and goat hooves in Ror2
At the moment we have 3 runs each harder than the last and each run also progresses in difficulty from stage to stage as well as while you are in each stage. Currently there is no player selected difficulty like in DRG but we are not 100% set on this yet.
as for solo, while we are approching this co-op first, solo is very important to us.

Just to clarify, Rogue Core is not being made from scratch. It's built from the foundation of DRG. We literally copied the DRG project and started hacking at it. Any visual or technical improvements we do to one game we will try to also move to the other.

Yes you can chose the weapon you start with and many of them are far from basic. Though there is one basic one for the people that just want a normal-ish gun.

i'm going to bring up the personal flask again. Personal upgradable alcohol flask for each character that functions sort of like an hp potion in PoE. Limited uses, needs refills by finding mats/plants in mission, customizable effects based on ingredients you put in it ๐

i hope we get some returning enemies from drg in rougue core. like i still wanna shoot up grunts in rouge core
first one that jumps to my mind (because it was ridiculous and hillarious) was a powerup that let you do damage to enemies in an AoE by falling down to the ground. The harder you fall the more damage you do. we were playtesting with Mark (the guy making the funny tik-toks) and he got that and a grappling hook and well... you had to be there, it was good fun.

Mactera are ONLY flying and seem to be based off of flies (as far as I can tell), and the naedocytes seem to be based off jellyfish

well drg only works well because it doesn't leave much room for consequential griefing. Loot not being instanced or auto-allocated WILL cause issues. (especially in a peer-to-peer netcode setting, mind you)

It's worth noting that Risk of Rain 2 and Gunfire Reborn both are cases of roguelites where the co-op modes are just playing the game with more people with no special co-op objectives or game elements and you either have to divide the loot or get your own. In both cases, nothing in the game motivates you to care about your teammates at all. Not having instanced loot doesn't have to be a problem if things are divided up or have to be divided up between the dwarves in such a way that you need to care about what everyone has. The teaser screenshots and what they've said on stream suggest they're trying to lean that way with the design.

it can be made working, DRG managed to fully steer clear of everything that soured the experience. And it has to work, lest DRG RC will not stand out from other similar games.

Literal skill issue, in my nearly thousand hours I have never once had a game even remotely like that
it definitely totally avoids the friction you get from risk of rain 2's implementation, but also nothing in the game motivates you to interact with your team at all beyond your own altruistic impulses and perhaps your desire to not be the last man standing
that is fair enough
it would be interesting to see if GSG can design a roguelite where you do need to make intelligent team loot choices and there's intrinsic motivation to do that from the challenges/objectives in the game
i just feel like if the tools for collaboration are there, its up to the players to utilize and enjoy them for the collaborative experience
and having the option to "lone wolf it" would still be better than letting someone vacuum up all the loot and actively detract from others
It's harder to build coop to an experience that's a commitment like these dives
in the best case a coop game would be escalated into a coop experience

Youre not suppose to complete your first run
if everyone got 1 thing of loot from each drop, it wouldnt discourage finding more loot, right? everyone can benefit from having more
tradable loot might make improve your chances since you get more pulls per source and can negotiate trades with other players
And the idea in coop comes in the roguelite that you're not supporting your time
Youre saving them to not be left to deal with everything yourself
but unless everyone is playing to just superbuff one person and let them carry, they will still be looking to get the same amount of loot so they can all contribute, right
And the idea is you'll let people get loot who need is, the unspoken rule
You got some good gear, let your teammates pick one
And shared gear will usually result in people with the same load outs

to me this just feels a little cynical of coop, i think. playing with others and supporting them is valid and part of the fun for a lot of players. there is the option to just play separately towards the same goal and that is valid too. but i dont think thats an intrinsic part of any coop game

so based off their video today, the thought is this expenite and XP and stuff, in between (after/before) the 5-stage missions, can be used to make 'progress' -- like you don't start totally brand new for each mission. you can carry forward stuff you've worked on from prior missions?

so whenever you get stuff during mission (like Expenite) that is shared between those who played that specific mission (like minerals mined in a DRG mission), but then in between missions, how all of that is used is for each personal player's progression
Multiple stages, get exp, unlock temporary stuff, scavenge stuff, die/complete mission, get permanent upgrades

So if I get 200 expenite in the mission, and my buddy gets 100
I get 2 temporary upgrades, and he gets one
But we both end with 300 expenite

Closed Alpha will be a sign-up thing in the future; the things we don't know is how many players or how they'll be chosen from those who sign up.
Regulars don't get a special treatment, and none of the other community roles do either, outside of community testers.
Being a regular just give you the yellow color, access to the reg chat and having to respect the rules even more
