Question for Nodes, Is it possible for a guild to be able to conquer a entire continent?
I mean technically just from a math standpoint but this will never happen
If they have thousands of members it might be, but they won't all be under a single banner due to guild and alliance caps.
If by conquering you mean be the mayor of every t3 or higher node
There’s enough guild members to do that
"Guilds" in game cap out at 300 players (using upgrades that could have gone towards other things) - You need more like 5,000-7,000 players to control a continent in detail, although it would matter a bit on what you mean by 'conquer', theoretically one of the continents probably only has two castles, and if you just counted capturing the castles as conquering the continent that's more doable (but might require two in game guilds, I don't know if it's theoretically possible for one guild to control more than one castle).

Guilds also don't control the normal nodes in game (Just castle nodes) - Nodes are controlled by a Mayor which is an individual player.
Members of a guild who control a Guild Castle become citizens of that node, and you cannot be a citizen of multiple nodes.
Actually, we don't know if its optional but I imagine it would be.
Considering the leader becomes King or Queen you would think a guild would not be able to control multiple castles.

Dueling/arenas are allowed in towns, open world PvP attacks are possible in town, but the town guards will attack.

First off, the devs here are doing an amazing job on all accounts and I am so excited about this game. However, there is something that sticks out in a negative way to me and that is how the dwarves are built more like halflings or gnomes in this fantasy setting. I have always been in love with the dwarven aesthetic and culture since playing them as a little kid in dnd campaigns to watching them in Tolkeins world of Middle Earth and even playing them in WoW. They are traditionally short yes but also stocky, wide and heavy set. I'm wondering why Intrepid has decided to take them in a different direction here and hope that they will reconsider this races anatomy. It is so visually displeasing looking at these lack luster impish beings and am baffled at Intrepids take on dwarves here. I fully intended on playing the Dunzenkell dwarves but am very disappointed in their visual aesthetics. The armor sets and node layouts look incredible for the race and are on point (In my opinion) it's just the anatomy here NEEDS to be revamped. I'm curious to know if anybody else has wondered or feels the same here.

Does anyone know the max group number for castle siege ? I know they currently say 250 v 250 total for siege but I’m assuming there will be a group break down within that to better coordinate units but I can’t find any information on it

but with the augment system it muddies the water a tad
Need to remember it's not 64 completely unique classes

No, Tank abilities and Fighter abilities will be different. A tank will have "hate" generation and others. Fighters will have dps burst abilities. Since augments of the secondary flavor the base archetypes abilities, you will have a tank with better dps in the first part, and a fighter that may have a limited threat gen in the second. But they will not have access to the same suite of abilities.

Hey so how is Cleric for solo play so far? I know it's built for support but still.
The Cleric in Alpha 1 had no issues with solo play. We are now past Alpha 1 and do not know how the Cleric playstyle may have changed yet. We'll get to see much more once Alpha 2 is ready for us to test.
alpha 1 was a very rough test. it only had 3 archetypes (mage, cleric, and tank) that were extremely unbalanced. as gruntag says we dont have a proper idea of how they'll play on their own as theyre meant to be healers.

I am a long time support player, and by support I mean full support. Think Final Fantasy XI Bard, or Everquest Bard. Will Bard/Bard be a full support class? Buffs as opposed to healing and if it does heal, will it just be a regen type deal? Really excited to see an MMO do Bard right in my eyes, because it's been so long since I've seen good Bard gameplay. I feel like Bard and full support classes get 0 love these days.

Most of the content is designed for group, surely there is some things you can do on your own, but you won't be able to do 80% or even more of the content without a group, especialy as a healer imo

And tbh healer might be the worst of the 3 class type to solo play

Sounds good, vfx were soo over the top, even after it was toned down. Imo, there's no need to have a lot of vfx for basic attacks for example.

I've noticed lately an increase in the "I'm a game developer and was wondering if you could test out my game" scam.
The person will ask you that then give the "game", once you run the program it will steal your discord token and take over your entire account which bypasses your 2FA.

Let’s say I wanna be apart of a worrier pvp node. I put all this effort into helping level a node and cause nodes are preset, all my work goes into this leveling process or node and then it turns out to be a Religious PVE node that I have no interest in participating in. So it wastes my time.
So now what I have to trial and error and level up all these different nodes with my community to try to find the PVP node?

Abuse is the keyword there. We can only assume intrepid is smart and aware of things like this. It’s Essentially bugs with how mobs path. So it’s rarely intended in games like new world.

How will healers advance in bounty hunting?

Healers will probably get contribution for being in the healing party. Right now healers aren't really meant to "DPS" so I'd wager you'd either have to hunt in a group or swap your sublass to fighter to get that last hit?

Yes keep in mind that there will be downtimes for maintenance and patches
many systems wont be there the second A2 launches but more will be added as testing progresses

So from reading the wiki:
Castles can tax entire areas of the map
Nodes can tax their own citizens
Nodes can be taxed by their parent nodes
Do these stack additively? Or how does it work exactly because this way, wouldn't that mean that the price of good would be ridiculous in a node that is for example, a vassal, of a vassal, of a vassal (+ castle tax)
castles tax the nodes in their region. parent nodes tax the vassal nodes in their zoi. it's up to the nodes how much tax they pass on to their citizens

Meaning that for example Node A is a vassal of Node B.

the federal tax would count against revenue to the vassal node (according to steven's latest statements in the wiki). the parent nodes may even choose to offer federal aid to their vassals.

So both Parent nodes and Guild Castles seem to tax others' revenue.
What if Parent Node has 30% tax over a Vassal and that Vassal was also being taxed by some Tyrant Guild, 71% tax over their income

you will not receive any sort of "catch up" mechanic to speed up your alt levelling. things such as heirlooms from WoW wont exist.
You can always give your alt gold/gear since gear isn't going to be Bind on Equip or Pickup
which means if you really want you can give your alt Best in Slot gear for the moment they hit max level

That's understandable, I've played alpha's before where they would just have the servers open for like 7 days then shutdown for about 2 months before opening back up.
There may be spot tests like that before the "real" alpha 2

I was just trying to figure out the dynamics for our guild lore story to make sense within the world. I guess I will wait for further clarification. Our guild is running a dnd game set 85 years before the calamity and I was hoping to also flesh out some of the cultural dynamics within a lore basis more concretely without speculation.
As it stands we know the Glitterwall was a specifically Empyrean thing and was well established before the calamity. The Dwarves being the ones who broke the glitterwall like a twig upon their first battle with the Empyreans in Sanctus. Also being no magic or connection to essence in Sanctus the Py'rai most likely had to exist before entering Sanctus, because of their root antlers.
Our game so far is operating under the assumption that the Pyrian Kingdom was much like Rome with territories under it's control and the Py'rai being more located in the outskirts away from civilization.

Ok, I have a question regarding seasons and more specifically seasonal events
So let's pretend we are in the World of Verra. It is Winter across the land.
A guild of malicious sneaky bastards is well-stocked with resources from the other seasons and are looking to turn a profit, and oh how lucky for them! An event has been triggered, there is a massive winter dragon of sorts who is enjoying the winter and won't let it go away. This fits great with the guild's objectives, the longer Winter gets extended, the more scarce resources will become and the more of a profit they will turn!
Would said guild be allowed to, in someway, for example through combat, prevent other players from completing this world event and extend the winter until the resistance from the rest of the population becomes too high and too many fight against them? (or maybe sneak it during off-hours while the guild is at its weakest)
Or would the guild just be powerless to really take any advantage of this world event?
Or in a broader sense, will seasons and generally random events that affect the world in general be able to create player conflict / politics?
As long as they have the numbers, technically a guild COULD contest you and fight you to keep the world boss alive.

Yeah, I think just delaying seasons 3 days would be a better approach but would be kind of funny if the event was delayed 2 weeks and you just ended up skipping one entire season 😂 although probably not the best idea at all.. that could cause some abusable issues (for example major guilds uniting to starve an entire player population of Spring resources for a whole in-game year..)

Will mages types be able to adjust whether spells are rooted or free motion? So like sacrifice damage maybe for being able to move and cast at the same time?

We’re still waiting to see how the mage class has changed since the UE5 upgrades.
You can probably at least choose to cast a free motion spell instead of a rooted spell, but I don't think we've seen something to turn a rooted spell into a free moving one so far (I don't think the devs have specifically said that won't exist either).

How does 'in/out of combat mode' work in AoC? To specify with an example: In GW2 you're in combat if you have been hit by or hit an enemy player and you then stay in combat until you move a certain distance away form them assuming neither part has a lingering effecft on the other.
Other games might have a time based combat system rather than one based on distance.>

Hows the claiming system for AoC vs mobs and also grouping of mobs? Is it single targets that we will encounter or is it groups of enemies or a mix? I do not like some games where regardless of which mob you strike, it just groups like 12 mobs together to come fight. Linking mobs is different than having to fight a group of them every time. I enjoy hard single target mobs. Cannon fodder mobs are meh unless it's just adds for a bigger fight. Pulling would essentially become a mechanic and that's a mechanic I like very much, but not when it's groups of enemies.
A little of both, mobs will link as well as use AI to fight smarter in groups.
I guess what I'm asking is, are we getting cannon fodder mobs or are even regular mobs a challenge

We dont really know. If you take Alpha 1 as a reference point, mobs were more on the stronger side relative to other mmos. You would mostly pull single mobs to be efficient at grinding mobs at your level. But Intrepid has yet to finish their combat system. Everything related to PvE does depend on that.

Wanted to know what exactly is the team going to do in regards to counter measures to avoid data mining, To prevent quests, hidden quest or clues regarding legendary gear and weapons in the game to be exposed?

They have shown previous art assets that were extremely similar to katanas

There is guaranteed instanced housing at level 3 of a node. The mayors make a decision on whether to expand that.

When you buy into a package, after that you can buy pieces of cosmetics after that, but you can not buy stuff by 'piece' from a higher value package, like you can not buy a house skin later for buying an initial low level set package that did not include a house skin.

You can trade items, and you can drop some loot when you die (gatherables), but I don't think they've mentioned anything about "dropping" things on the ground that others could pick up. Afaik if you drag something out of your bag to "drop" it'll delete it

Maybe I'm just confused, but Alpha-2 isn't live yet right? Newest vid titled "Ashes of Creation Alpha Two Basic Melee Weapon Attack Update" threw me for a loop.
A revamped combat system will be rolled out during and post Alpha-1 testing based on player feedback.
The goal is to give more agency to the player and achieve a more fluid flow of combat with greater mobility when using abilities.
The current hybrid tab and action combat system will remain after the revamp.

Is there anyone who can confirm if, in the current build shown today, the basic attacks are done by left-clicking or if they just happen automatically in front of your enemy like in FF14? I've seen the term 'auto-attack' thrown around but really I'm unsure what it all includes.
Personally, I'd much prefer to click for each attack for a more actiony feeling.

Around 2:12 in the livestream, there is a question about equiping a weapon changing your skillset. It is said the weapon is not going to change your skillset.
From my understanding, this means if you play a cleric, you will always have your cleric skills no matter the weapon.
But in alpha 1, there was a disabled tree for weapon skills. Is it still plan for weapons to have their own skill tree? Or is that abandonned? Maybe the tree for weapons is more for small modifyers and not skills per say?

It'll seem random to us, but i can almost guarantee that Intrepid Studios has a "Goal" in mind that they are going to meet before they will release to us their first alpha 2 build. They have kept close to their chat what that actual goal is though.
They will announce the date for A2 once they know for sure they can hit it. Intrepid made some early mistakes in development by setting dates that were missed, and the community punished them for it. So now they only give dates when they are sure.

please don't make any one and done content. i really want to be hyped for this game and live this game when it's out. but i will not play it at all if there is one and done content that creates FOMO. there's nothing worse that a game can make. literally the worst thing most multiplayer games have.
as a collector and completionist this is a death sentence for a game. the game looks so promising, but one and done content will just make it unplayable for me and many others.
If you are completinist you should be happy for fomo since it makes ppl who have done it more unique
And it has to be some fomo content as a thanks from devs to players who plays regularly, but it shouldnt be that big (small achievement or title is enough)
lol, i completely disagree. more unique? by missing it? make things challenging to get. there you have your prestige. no need to ruin millions of players experience just because they missed something, maybe because they couldn't play at that specific time or because they started the game at a later time, and so on. and it's a pain to be forced to know at all time what is going on with the content in the game, like checking every promotion and every little event and things in the game. fomo is literally the worst thing that exists in modern gaming.
fomo = ruins the experience for the most hardcore players that missed 1 thing. and that WILL happen to everyone at some point. and so those players don't care much anymore
no fomo = completionists will grind the game to the last bit of content. so that is way more healthy for the game to "thank the devs for players who play a lot".

I have a question about the economy of the game. What systems are in place in the game to keep the inflation of the currency down. One thing that I loved about Eve online back in the day is that war between guilds not only came from a skill of the players but the backing of the industrial base the clan set up. Are guild wars going to be expensive are towns going to need a certain value of currency shoved into its gaping maw to keep it functional.
guilds operate independent of towns but i believe there is a natural market force of supply and demand from player interaction. a node with a high ore spawn rate will have cheaper ores than a node with a lower ore spawn rate for example.
Markets in Ashes of Creation are regional, which means that each market has its own character. Because resources will shift locations as they’re exhausted, this will keep people moving about the world, seeking out the best resources for their crafting builds, and the best markets for their goods.
There will be no central auction house or warehouse...

I have a technical question about the foliage system in UE5. In the latest video (Ashes of Creation Alpha Two Basic Melee Weapon Attack Update), i see that the ray traced foliage shadows disappear at a certain distance. Is this something that you wittingly didn't touch because of the optimization for the alpha or something that you have issues with? Ever since i started to use UE5 i'm having a lot of issues with the foliage system. Just out of curiosity, i'm interested about how hard is/was the implementation of the foliage objects comparing to UE4. Not sure where else could i ask this, sorry if this isn't the right channel for it.

Wind magic is a no go, technology yes as the science node offers high level crafting. You’ll be able to craft ship parts as well as caravan parts like better off road wheels etc.

When buying a pre-order pack that includes months of game time, is this activated post release? Or is it game time during alpha and beta?
At launch. IIRC they mentioned the possibility of having it activated manually after launch but haven't confirmed yet?
The ships will become disabled, may have damage done to components that needs to be repaired. But not completely destroyed a la Atlas. Also, you cannot launch ships on the sea, only from the coast.
