SATA ports are very common on motherboards. It allows you to connect an SSD to your computer which is considered an internal SSD. An external SSD is one connected via USB I believe. If you send me your computer model or motherboard name I can verify if you have that.

It would likely be smarter to have 2 classes so you’re not competing for gear and had more utility when it was just the 2 of you. But also in larger groups you’ll be competing on gear.

I didn't regret it at all. I can see that this is going to be an MMO that will tick all my MMO boxes, runs just fine, people are awesome in it. I am enjoying every bit of it right now.

Has bugs, but in all honesty, they are not gamebreaking. I enjoy learning its mechanics slowly, no rush. Theres no FOMO in it, just enjoy your time in it. Its really nice.

But be aware that it is not a full game yet, you are testing it and time i spend testing I personally don't regret, im having fun.

i bet its gonna be super fun when all the people hop back in on 26th and i have no problem with the wipe that will happen.

Question for anyone that has answer. The item seem very bland with stats. They’re such a random number on each of the stats. It seems very AI procedural generated like no man’s sky. I could be wrong but wow started ai generated items and that was the downfall of real fun items. I can remember so many in EQ , that’s won’t happen with ai generated stats and names . 3 names most items woth combat stats. Each descriptive term throws a stat on it then devs call itemization perfect cause it’s AI generated now.

Red mobs take reduced damage from you. Xp is granted from mobs as long as you’re within 9 lvls of the enemy. I’m not sure if it’s reduced before the 9 lvl mark or not, but I know for sure it isn’t if it’s only a 3 lvl gap. So if you’re lvl 5 killing lvl 8’s you get normal xp. Would need someone else to chime in about potential reduced xp

Groups have varying sizes and skill levels. There is no one size fits all for what a group should be killing. Gotta do trial and error

No, there is no "Alpha 3." There is Phase 3 of Alpha 2. Which your package gives you access to. You have access to all future testing without any further purchase, plus a month of sub once the game goes "live"

The developers have claimed 20-40% improvements in graphics performance due to 5.6.

Similarly, dynamic gridding should facilitate areas of higher population density than what was seen in phase 2.

Current dueling work arounds? I think most of these still work…

1. Launch a caravan, and have your duel opponent register as an an attacker
2. find a lawless area
3. hold alt nonstop (and don’t kill the person and go red, or mess with settings, I think?)

They have showcased various large sprawling dungeon concepts over the years. Things like the Tower of Carphin POI are considered "dungeons" though they use verticality vs spread. They have been adding a new feature called "pocket dungeons" for awhile now that are meant to be smaller easier to finish quick content, but the plan for larger stuff is still out there. Just like anything else here, implementation takes time.

Make sure you have made an account. Log into said account and you should see a package for $100 US. That package gives access to all current and future testing, plus a month of sub time at "live launch". Then a download button on your account page will light up. Get the launcher and then select which realm you want to participate on. Currently the Prod server (Shol) is down for regular maintenance for two days, but the PTR is available. Since there is a planned wipe of Prod on the 26th, most people are playing on PTR atm anyways. GLHF

At launch the game will be a 15$/month sub with no box price. In terms of $ per month that technically makes it cheaper now. In terms of trying out the game the betas will likely be a bit cheaper to get into, but will be relatively closer to launch and not up 24/7. The devs could always decide that 6 months down the line they want to knock 10$ off the price of A2 or whatever, but have not talked about it.

I just started playing alpha 2 a few days ago. I jumped into the PTR last night to check things out since the main servers went down for maint. I currently have a ryzen 9800x3d cpu and a Nvidia 3080ti and noticed some "grainy shadows" mostly in the Trees shadowing. Also anything that was fire would over expose greatly and appear super bright. I'm guessing these are just PTR issues still being worked through? I also have an LG Ultragear OLED monitor. Tried changing all the settings I could think of but nothing seemed to change it.

Having a fun issue today trying to install the recent PTR patch. I can't seem to get the launcher to install yesterday's, or maybe today's, update in my current PTR file directory. Now, imagine the reaction of those people, if the price of the keys was $20 or something - a natural "Why did we pay 10x for something years away and now people can just hop in for $20?"

Secondly, A2 will last for a pretty long time. There is a thing called server cost

Thirdly (my assumption), it serves as a filter. Potential player/tester most likely wouldn't think twice if the price was low. But when it is $100, there is a much higher chance he will actually try to figure out why is it like that and make some sort of research. This would allow to filter out a significant portion of people who would just jump in to "play the game", stumble upon the first bug, rage quit and complain that "the game is bad" everywhere. Because he wouldn't even know that it is Alpha

Depends on how you approach the game until phase 3 starts. You could just test the first few levels of each archetype, you could try a few beginner builds, you could get to know the first quests a bit, you could test setup keyboard shortcuts, you could gather a bit, you could become a citizen in a random city and just see what there is to do, you could also just roam around and enjoy the landscape. As long as you are aware, that your character will be deleted and you have to start over.

That said, all of this you can also do on the PTR, where you would have the benefit of even testing more recent developments and changes.

They don't give a lot of details on when certain things are coming, because when they do, and they miss those windows, people meltdown.

It was running 5.3 The current PTR version is running 5.6 You can expect a whole new prod client needing to be downloaded shortly before the 26th if not on the day (they dont usually do "preloads"). PTR will remain the same as it has been. Which means as they need, they update it.

Yeah - The Alpha 2 production server is coming up for their “end of the world” event in a few hours, but will go down and get wiped later today… then won’t come back up til its patched with the phase 3 build on the 26th.

the PTR environment (an additional 100gb download) is up now, and will likely be mostly up until the 26th. That will possibly see a few more patches over the next few days as we test things to prepare for phase 3.

Per Support: These errors are all time out errors.
Be sure to have Ashes of Creation installed on a Solid State drive and have a good stable connection.

If you’re on the prod server then you’ll get some issues with performance. It’s still in alpha and they’re making good steps into improving the graphics and performance. Eg: on the PTR it’s noticeably much more performant.

It sometimes takes a minute for the A2 channels to appear once you have linked. If the A2 tags dont show up in 5 min or so, unlink and relink till it works. Those give you access to the the PTR NDA channels. When you can see #a2-ptr-news that is where you need to look.

They had hoods in early iterations that had ear holes in them. Remember, armor and clothing in Ashes is meant to be race specific. Throw on a breastplate as a Nikua, it becomes Nikuan, throw it on as a Pyrai, it become Pyrai.

If you are talking about the Prod client (formerly Shol this last time) then yes. It is going from Unreal 5.3 to 5.6 and hasn't been updated on Prod for weeks. Your best bet is to uninstall Ashes completely and reinstall on the day when available. Anecdotally (don't think anyone has run a study) people have found that a fresh install is quicker than updating older files. If you are talking about PTR, that is currently updated several times a week if not daily and often has fresh wipes and other things that are targeted testing.

They will give a message in the News channels here saying it is ready for download. In the past there has been very little lead in time (so no "prepatch") so will most likely occur on the day. You might get some information like the server names and locations the day before in a post. When you are in the launcher you have two options to download. The "Prod" client which is normal A2 (down currently) and the "PTR" Public Test Realm (some put the P as Private). They are separate client versions, so you have to download them deciding on which you want to play. The PTR is available right now.

The PTR is under visual NDA and is wiped often and they ask for different focused testing depending on their need. The Prod client is more "do as you like"

It will be its own thing. P2 Prod client was running 5.3, the new one is running 5.6 Your best bet is to completely uninstall the Prod client and just reinstall fresh. Most people have reported the update process taking much longer than a fresh install.

Who knows if it will all go in, but here are some changes we’ve seen on PTR and in phase 2.5:

Anvils/dwarf starting area, guild banks, UE 5.6, dynamic gridding, revised guild levels, crate system, /follow, cosmetic skins, flagging changes, more weapon types, reduced access to flying mounts, ttk faster, gear/stat/crafting changes, node 4, vassaling, separate keybind for mounting, fall damage, unstuck kills you (for now) to prevent abuse, rotating lawless zones, there’s also been salvaging/tempering/target of target, and a ton more map area/nodes since earlier tests.

1. They hope to have summoner on PTR for testing in mid September (so maybe October for that to show up on PROD)

2. then they are working on revamping each of the archetype skill trees to have ranks per active use abilities, and passives

3. then… ??? a while back we were told that they planned to do the secondary archetypes for cleric and tank available for all the classes… but we haven’t seen/heard about development progress there.

maybe they will mention timelines for the class combination stuff in their upcoming live stream.

Keep in mind dates with them are unreliable as various things end up taking priority and pushing things around. There’s a handful of things that were roadmapped for phase 1 and phase 2 but still haven’t shown up yet (there are also features that weren’t roadmapped that got added in)

The alpha will also sometimes have more experimental testing of graphics settings, like maybe they try out a new fog/rain/shader effect, some of which never makes it over to the main alpha branch. The PTR is under a visual NDA, so there shouldn't be any screenshots/video from it, so the devs are more likely to put stuff there that might 'break' things visually.

Those keys are visible to everyone in the post though so they're typically claimed within an hour. Another way to gain access is via a contest. That access is applied directly to an account and again is not a key the player can give away.
