at the very least personal ship colors
that cant be that complicated right?
color variable attached to some ui element and use that color instead of whatever default blue it is now
obv im no app programmer so idk how complex that is
making it so other people see is harder but at the very least let me see something other than this boring blue

Category One Implementation
- Color selection only visible to the player.
- Pros: Easy to implement, low concern for gameplay impact, essentially a QOL tool for ship recognition
- Cons: Low impact, less interesting than stylized redesigns, no social aspect
Category Two Implementation
- Introduce stylized redesigns that are unlocked, researched, or bought.
- Pros: Potential for exciting designs, exciting social potential, can be expanded over time, adds game depth
- Cons: Difficult to implement, messes with gameplay (requires solution to avoid ship confusion b/w players)
These are the two camps I visualize. A client-side only recoloring vs a social implementation. You can mix these ideas together in various ways of course. I think simple recoloring may come across as low effort if not designed properly, and I think cosmetics are exciting for the social aspect (ie. planet and star designs).

Camp 1 is 100% better than nothing and would be great, but I see so much potential with social cosmetics in the game, beyond the static and (frankly) slightly boring YS customization
We could also implement flagship's skin for corporation. My idea is that if will work a bit like upgrading the flagship, but instead of paying Credits we would have to pay crystals.
There would be a selection of skins, and each one of them would require a certain amount of crystals.
Which is optional btw.. not like it adds any other benefits for it to be p2w
As long as cosmetics don't come with p2w benefits idk why its a problem really paid ones are optional? Lmao not like you have to pay it? I understand not wanting to look at it maybe?
Making it an additonal station people could just not even buy the station and don't give a notification to buy the station or "new station available" if that happens
One of the problem is that people may not want to look at them. A solution would be for every person to have a toggle in the settings where they could deactivate the cosmetics , giving each player the powsibility to see them or not
That's an easy solution, but you might notice basically no game ever does that because it really detracts from the attractiveness of cosmetics
As long as there isn't difficulty identifying other player ships, there's really no reason to allow disabling a major social feature in the game, it's an insult to the development time and players who enjoy it.
That'd be similar to creating a toggle disabling the ability to see star and planet skin, which is just goofy and appealing to the lowest common denominator.
People pissed themselves when DN changed graphics, now the old hs ships look so elementary, I really think it has been a step up.

My point is, if ship cosmetics are tastefully implemented, the amount of people begging to be able to disable it should be marginal. But I know those types love to be vocal.
If time is spent building a cosmetic system with achievements, research, a shop etc., giving the option to just disable it is, respectfully, psychotic (respectfully).
Yeah just give them red, blue, green, dots imo. Also these wouldn't be the actual finished product either Id imagine... I only made these to almost force the thought into the game.. Andreas definitely has a creative side and they would look so much better.. I wanna see what he can cook up tbf

The shipping drone already has a glow like that car - itβs green when shipments are available and shippable by the drone, and red when it has nothing left to ship.
(The server will now stutter briefly while you all launch a shipment drone to check something youβd never noticed before.)

Forcing "keep the basics" to ai really helps

Random ping here but.... these could also be cosmetic options (free tho)
Also reading back a little.. instead of a toggle to not see or see these purchases it should be a station.. and the only time you see them is when you look at the station menu so you dont see them. The temptation to look is.. owning the station π

I think skins should be corporation colors or adding ranks into corps for having those colors. I think skins could have cool stuff like effects (maybe a different engine trail or death animation)
I would love different ship models, but i think that should translate to battleship variations (maybe a carrier class battleship that is slower and has more drone slots, less combat slots and is slower, etc)
I'm not sure how I feel about color being tied to corporation, I think I prefer more customization options.
If corporations were tied to a ship cosmetics, it should be adding the logo somehow (like FS?) ~ and maybe adding more logo customization

i think the fact there hasn't been explicit comment against this from the development team is somewhat promising
There have been suggestions that are flat out denied, so maybe this has been considered in a capacity but isn't a high priority item / is undecided. Idk, just speculation.
