I also found a bastion with a lodestone in it so I set that up at spawn if anyone wants to use it to find their way home

you just have to make a compass and then right click on the lodestone and the compass will then always point home

no you can redo it but you have to make respawn things which require some work

or you can just summon them with the creative menu
