Resistance is the most consistant in terms of theme
WOTP definitely sounds like a mix of songs ranging from pretty cringe to genuinely good that all could be from completely different bands
Because how the fuck are title track, liberation, won’t stand down, and Halloween all the same band
And the same album at that
Musically, its not. Theme wise yeah i agree
The biggest alt rock band of the 2000s deserves it's thread
MUSE
They debuted the galery live a week ago, i love when bands play deep cuts live
@simple ember
Front row video I took of Muse performing “The Gallery” at the Eventim Apollo in London, United Kingdom. I own no rights to this song. All rights to this song belong to Muse.
The biggest?
I mean, i couldn't name a bigger 2000s rock band
Muse had like one radio hit
I literally can only think of one popular song of theirs
They had like 2 hits per album
I can only think of the one that's in Warriors of Rock
And I can't remember the name
Origin of symmetry: feeling good(elected best cover of all time)/plug in baby
Absolution: hysteria/time is running out
Black holes and revelations: starlight/supermassive black hole
Resistance: undisclosed desires/uprising
2nd law: supremacy/madness
Drones:dead inside
I think it's uprising
But yeah, muse was massive in the late 2000s
I don't remember them being massive
They always were bigger in europe than in the us tbh
There was a time when you couldn't turn on the radio without hearing a muse song
Around 2008 and 2012
I just looked up sales between GD and Muse for their 2000s albums
Muse: 15 million units worldwide
Green Day: 23.5 million units worldwide
Green Day is bigger
How about ticket sales?
Idk I didn't look
Mind you Muse has like 4 or 5 2000s albums and GD has 3, and one was warning which sold poorly
Muse has 4
Yeah so AI and nothing
What
The Resistance sold 5 million
Black Holes and Revelations sold 4.5
Absolution sold 3.5
And Origins of Symmetry sold 2 million
GD has one less album and their lowest selling one of that time sold the same as or more than 2 Muse albums of the same period
Holy shit, drones barely sold
21stCB sold more than 3 Muse albums of this time
500k
With 200k being in france alone
Are we looking at total sales?
Damn
People did not like muse metal
What website are you using
The thread name
That's still a bold claim
I actualy can't think of any big 2000s alt rock bands
Because i don't count pop punk/punk rock as alt rock
Sure
White stripes only ever had 7 nation army that got popular
Mcr never realy took off over here so i can't say tbh
At least nowhere near as much as gd/muse/radiohead etc.
Also remember we're in two seperate counties
AI is most certainly going to sell more in America than France
Muse was fucking massive in france
AI sold a lot here too
Which one had boulevard of broken dreams already?
I wasn't aware of Muse until uprising and I haven't heard much from them since here
AI
AI at Blvd, Holiday, AI and Wake Me Uo When September ends
All massive hits
Yeah, boulevard of broken dreams and holidat played a bunch here
AI way less
And wake me up when september ends rarely ever played
Jesus of Suburbia was a single too but not as big
Too long for radio
Yea
9m for the short version lol
It's still their Magnus Opus
21stCB had several singles but I only remember 21 Guns doing well
By 2009 punk was on it's way out of the mainstream
Guitar driven music as a whole was
Reminds me, a lot of shows/news stations use muse instrumentals as background music and i love that
I don't think I can think of an example myself here
Linkin park?
They're nu metal
Eh
Nu Metal is alt rock
Yea atleast there first 2 is
Alt is an umbrella genre
Minutes to midnight is 100% alt rock tho
Nu metal also means nothing and everything
Because ratm and slipknot are both nu metal
Oh yeah, definitely
MTM only has one truly memorable song though
Shadow of the day
Given up and leave out all the rest are cool but i wouldn't say they're memorable
No?
If i say space rock, that's not even arguable though, nobody made space rock in the 2000s
What I've Done? Bleed It Out?
Never got on radio here
Pretty sure those were radio hits here
What i've done is one of my least favourite linkin park songs tbh
And again the only radio hits Muse had was uprising
We only get the softer stuff here
on radio
Well, nevermind, supremacy got on the radio when the 2nd law came out and it has some drop A chugs
Watch the new music video for "Supremacy" now!

Maybe rock radio stations
I'm talking top 40 stations
I only remember uprising being played on top 40 stations
Anything rock is fair game on rock radio
Yeah we have pseudo rock radios
We have a pop/rock/electro radio
Which means POP!/pop with guitar/pop with synth
Never get why ratm is considered nu metal ngl
because it's metal instrumentals with rapped lyrics
Yea but I would consider that rap rock/rap metal which is different from nu metal
they were pioneers of nu metal
and nu metal is basicaly metal with elements from other genres
@long sonnet MUSE
in the uk muse is absolutely massive, even bigger back in the 2000s
plugin baby, new born, feeling good, time is running out, hysteria, stockholm syndrome, knights of cydonia, supermassive black hole, starlight, uprising, supremacy, madness, dead inside
they all get decent radio play to this day
Especialy in europe apparently
I've never heard of any of these besides Uprising
RIGHT!?!?
What were they thinking when they decided to never release rain?
Song slaps
True
Have you listened to the newton abbot demos?
1997 muse demos
Some unreleased and some that changed to become stuff like plug in baby and nature_1
You can only get the album from somebody who has it
It's not on any streaming platform

Elite vid
holy shit those tones
yeah, spot on
I wonder how they did do those
also I heard a matt bellamy vox background I think, neat
if it was layered a bit more it'd be less 'live' feeling
that dude nailed that vocal line aH MY GOD
kicking in the synths was brilliant
that is a solid cover, that bass just ugh
lol
@light dune do you want a drive for the newton abbot demos btw?
Sure idc
@simple ember will of the people première
Prob my favorite so far
I saw the insta post, neat visuals
flame maple top LP Special? Are those soapbar p90s
I think they're just standard humbuckers
the compression makes it really hard to make it out
I prefer won't stand down, but I do like this one more than I like compliance
Yesterday they played a new song "Kill or be killed" for the first time in the Rock am Ring concert
If anyone wants to listen to it, here's the link (not youtube because they are taking down youtube videos): https://eu2.contabostorage.com/788ec89247a04643989594f076b48223:general/Varios/Muse Kill or be Killed Rock Am Ring 2022.mp4
banger
That white oryx doe
I like that intro
it's really interesting, the verse sounds pretty different until it's not
The riff reminds me of satisfaction
least interesting take ever: knights of cydonia is really good
decided to listen to origin of symmetry and yeah it's a great fuckin album
micro cuts and space dementia are my favs
Screenager and darkshines are just mwah
I tried to play that riff from the live at rock am ring
The notes in between keep fucking with me
I am loving muses new tracks!
@simple ember
hi
it's not embedding, that is a 60mb vid
Dis
Good ole throwback song, the rock am ring live version slaps
