People are bitching about it for a multitude of reasons but I'm pretty hyped

#

I think it looks incredible

#

The one thing I agree with the haters on is his arm looking kinda dumb

#

They made everything a bit more modern and realistic about his design except for that

#

And I'm worried they won't have Johnny Yong Bosch voice Vash. They haven't approached him yet and everyone is freaking out because they said "all new cast" but I'm holding out hope that they're just talking about the Japanese version.

#

If the original voice actor, who is beyond beloved and overwhelmingly agreed to be perfect for the role, is willing and available, they'd be stupid not to get him.

#

I saw someone bitching about his earring though and I was just like derp but he always had that?

#

The people complaining about his hair are the worst. Like he never ever wore his hair down. ablobrollingeyes

#

Also I just remembered that Richard Cansino is also the voice of Kenshin Himura, which I find absolutely hilarious because the characters are polar opposites. I mainly watched the sub for Kenshin but I remember thinking Richard did a great Kenshin too.

#

I need to finish that show someday. I just kinda lost interest after the Kyoto arc because the show went from pretty good to PHENOMENAL then dropped back down to just good and it was just disappointing after the Kyoto arc. PE_PandaWorry

#

I was going to watch Fushigi Yûgi after Cowboy Bebop if I was still in an anime mood but I should probably do Kenshin first considering it's much more similar to Trigun, and I never finished it.

#

I just realized, Kenshin and Bebop are both extremely similar to Trigun but in opposite ways 🤔

#

I guess they all have elements of "mysterious past uncovered"

#

Bebop and Trigun both have the space and bounty hunting elements and generally a more American vibe, where Trigun and Kenshin both have the legendary fighter with a devastating past who are feared by all, but they're really a total pacifist and completely misunderstood, while having a more old-fashioned vibe (Kenshin actually taking place in the past, with Trigun happening in the future but in a wasteland with most technology being lost). Not to mention that samurai shit is essentially Japan's equivalent to westerns. Very similar vibes.

quasi raptor
#

I know I shouldn't get my hopes up but if this happened maybe there's hope for a new cowboy bebop?

median pulsar
#

I mean Cowboy Bebop did get a live action version and we all know how that went sweatdrop

quasi raptor
#

Yeah I wish they wouldn't consider that when talking about animation

#

cause I'm just talking about animation

median pulsar
#

I forget, Cowboy Bebop wasn't based on a manga though, right?

quasi raptor
#

yeah it actually wasnt im pretty sure

#

That's probably one of the reasons why it feels so original

median pulsar
#

I feel like it's less likely because it's more well known than Trigun, regarded as a classic (not to say that Trigun isn't also a classic), and I feel like they wouldn't want to fuck with it. A lot of people feel it's perfect as is. Trigun on the other hand is based on a manga, a lot of which wasn't covered in the show, so I could see there being more desire and demand for a reboot.

#

But who knows! A lot of movies that absolutely didn't need sequels got them anyway and ended up actually being good.

#

Although it sounds like Trigun Stampede is not trying to adapt Trigun Maximum, which is another reason people are very worried about it

quasi raptor
#

What I don't quite understand is why the original cowboy bebop ended so soon

#

Like was it because it just got canceled unexpectedly or was it just that they had fulfilled the story they had to tell

#

Because the ending of cowboy bebop does feel pretty final

#

It feels like a legit conclusion to a story
Pretty much

median pulsar
#

Because Japanese production, much like British production, is not like American production. We see something getting a good response and we'll bleed it dry through 10 seasons of questionable quality because people are invested and will still watch it. Japanese and British TV are like "A'ight we got a story to tell, we're gonna tell it, then move on to the next one." Which honestly usually makes for a better show. (Of course there are exceptions, like Dragon Ball and Inuyasha that were absolutely milked to death.)

#

Yeah I think they just finished the story they were trying to tell

#

They could have stretched it out for a few seasons and added more filler and fleshed things out more, but then the pacing would probably be weird

#

I need to remember to watch the Cowboy Bebop movie at the right moment chronologically

quasi raptor
#

that blows my mind
love it

median pulsar
#

The one thing Japan does that annoys me is they'll see a popular manga and jump on it even if it's not done, and animes have much larger teams and more efficient production so they catch up then have to make up their own ending. There were so many shows in the 90s and 2000s based on mangas that weren't concluded that only ran for a season and made up their own endings.

#

So they're not flawless and still do care about the money, but they do it in more of a way that they'll be like "We'll capitalize on the popularity now, then later on we'll do a reboot the right way and capitalize on the nostalgia and everyone will be happy"

#

They did that with Full Metal Alchemist, Hellsing, Fruits Basket

#

Although some reboots haven't been as well received, but I can't think of any specific examples

#

But those three shows were all popular and well liked, and the reboots were even more well liked

#

Which reminds me I also wanted to rewatch Hellsing, then watch the reboot

#

Why is there never enough time to consume all the media that I want to consume? pan_sob And why do I waste so much time doomscrolling instead of watching stuff? Lmao

quasi raptor
#

Like you said ran for only one season so I assume you weren't talking about stuff like naruto or bleach

median pulsar
#

Trigun and Fruits Basket

#

Like 65% of Trigun is unique to the anime and wasn't in the manga because there wasn't very much manga when they made it. So much lore is left out, and the ending is different because...there wasn't a manga ending at the time. But it's still really good. I think the creator was fairly involved with the show and made sure they didn't screw it up. Some things are a little under explained, and there is some additional "filler" but the filler is just as good as the filler in Bebop and helps with the pacing and world building. Entertaining but maybe not strictly necessary for plot advancement.

#

Fruits Basket on the other hand, I don't think the creator had much input on the show and they definitely lightened it up a bit and added a little filler (although not nearly as much), left out some seriously important foreshadowing (but how would they know that seemingly background plotline that felt very secondary would actually be vital?), and totally fucked up the ending. Not to say it was a bad ending, but definitely bad when compared to the manga.

#

I'm not 100% sure but I'm assuming they both stopped where they did because they caught up to the source material at the time and didn't want to go totally rogue, so they decided to just wrap it up with a psuedo-ending that fit with where they were at the time.

#

Ooh this is from a different article but I did not know this SurprisedBoy

#

Ranma 1/2 is hella long to be fair

#

I got pretty far into the manga but never finished. I don't remember how much of the show I watched, but not nearly as much

#

Oh, hmm. I wonder where Kenshin started deviating.

#

Ohhhhhh interesting. I just learned WHY they start animes before the manga is done.

indigo spoke
#

to sell the manga a bit better

median pulsar
#

Yep, essentially.

indigo spoke
#

it happened with konosuba, the season 1 was essentially to boost light novel sales

#

but they relented and did a s2 and a movie so heck they're doing s3 atm

#

I tried reading the light novel but it did not make sense to me so yeah

median pulsar
#

Most animes don't make money on their own and are expensive to make, but they're treated as a giant advertisement for the greater franchise. Most of the time it's the publishing companies producing the animes to get the word out about a manga they want to succeed.

indigo spoke
#

good example is tokyo ghoul

#

the anime is not as good as the manga and it pretty much peters out till the fans just get the manga

median pulsar
#

That definitely makes sense with Trigun because the Trigun manga was actually canceled at one point, then came back later as Trigun Maximum. Someone important must have really had faith in Yasuhiro Nightow/REALLY loved his work.

indigo spoke
#

I was thinking of going through Trigun, you seem to really like it and I know that my anime taste somewhat goes in the direction of yours

median pulsar
#

It's legitimately one of my favorite shows of all time, not just animes

#

It's only 26 episodes so it's not a large commitment either

indigo spoke
#

I love it when there's only like a season and it ends

#

say, did you watch Azumanga Daioh?

median pulsar
#

It does start a little slow and the tone changes significantly throughout the show but it's a slow burn that's totally worth it

#

I watched all of Azumanga Daioh years ago and I started rewatching it recently but didn't get very far. sweatdrop I was watching it on Hidive and it's not the best streaming platform.

indigo spoke
#

aw

median pulsar
#

I did buy the whole manga and started reading that but also did not finish. 😂 Again, read it all ages ago though.

#

I'm just bad at finishing stuff these days

#

I tried rereading Gravitation twice recently and fell off both times, and that's probably my favorite manga. And I tried rereading The Perks of Being a Wallflower and...also did not finish despite it being one of my favorite books. sweatdrop

#

I go where the ADHD hyperfixation leads me

#

Which is why I also appreciate short shows haha

#

I was gonna binge watch FLCL the other day but Hulu only has the sub and my focus was not all there and I knew I'd miss half of what was going on if I watched it in Japanese

spark yarrow
#

I should really watch trigun and azumanga daioh

#

I haven't watched any anime in ages, then recently finished Burn the Witch (was only a 3 episode one-shot anyway - fun stuff though)

median pulsar
#

#

I'll find out in the morning

median pulsar
#

I have no idea what that is but free games are cool

quasi raptor
median pulsar
#

I think I've figured out why it is I never got as into Cowboy Bebop as I did Trigun

#

Trigun has way more light moments

#

Cowboy Bebop has funny moments/lines, but it's rarely straight-up comedic, and it's just a lot more serious in general.

#

Because Trigun has lighter moments, it helps the darker moments have that much more impact and contrast. And while I won't say it's darker than Cowboy Bebop in its dark moments, because I'm still making my way through Bebop and I don't remember how dark it gets, but I will say that the stakes in Trigun are definitely way higher.

#

So, yeah...they're similar in a lot of ways, but that's the main difference in vibe that makes me prefer Trigun. Cowboy Bebop's filler episodes are a bit too serious for my tastes...which would be fine if the pacing was faster, but it's not. Bebop definitely starts grabbing my attention more once Ed joins the crew for that added light-heartedness and comedy.

#

Bebop needs more episodes like Toys In The Attic and Mushroom Samba IMO lol

quasi raptor
#

Bebop is ust more impressive to me because it's got all these characters and they all feel fuckin 4 dimensional

#

I love the tone shifts in some episodes

#

I feel like you learn something new about each character every single episode

#

Even if it's something small

#

i love Jet's story but it's edged out by Spike and Faye for me

median pulsar
#

Trigun has some FANTASTIC tone shifts

#

I do wish some of the characters were a little more fleshed out in Trigun, and I do feel like certain characters remain more mysterious until late in the show

#

(No spoilers, just an example of a fantastic tone shift in less than 30 seconds)

#

The fact that the first half is largely filler and the second half is very plot heavy is both a blessing and a curse

#

All the main characters are very compelling though

#

Meryl and Milly don't really have a ton of depth, but their place in the story is supposed to just be "regular people" so why would they have a super interesting, fleshed out backstory? They're chock full of personality and have depth in that regard, but you don't really know a lot about them as people outside of being insurance agents who are enthusiastic and dedicated to their jobs, Meryl isn't that close with her family, and Milly is very close with hers. 🤷‍♀️

#

Bebop is a bit more of an ensemble cast, where Trigun is really...Vash's story

#

And the story of the planet and how humans ended up there

#

And how they manage to survive there/the relationship between ||plants and humans||

#

I guess in that way, it's less character-driven and more lore-driven than Bebop? But the characters still are very distinct and have well-developed personalities and grow throughout the series.

#

I'll watch that in a bit. I was just talking about that with my brother like two hours ago. He was saying that the PC version is a bit glitchy, but it's supposed to be good

lego star wars good

#

its definitely a good game, i played through the prequels on it and
well that was it actually

#

I'm a filthy clone wars fan and they brought all the voice cast back and it made me happy

#

It's wonderful when you can get a fuck ton of hours on something you didn't even pay for

prisma briar
#

Actually the bit of the game I liked the most was the original trilogy

#

Any level on a ship or the Death Star looked so good

#

Shame you played through 1/3 of the game and stopped

#

My only issue really is it’s quite buggy and the switch version isn’t ideal
This being said it’s a very impressive switch port

#

and I suppose it is great fun portably

quasi raptor
#

But I might not play through the sequels

prisma briar
#

Seems a waste to me really

quasi raptor
#

I'm not really sure I want to re experience the messy plot threads of those movies again in any form

prisma briar
#

The game just pokes fun the whole time I’m not sure you’re thinking of plot holes when Luke is halted by a wall of porgs

quasi raptor
#

its prolly not that big a deal but

#

idk

#

yeah maybe someday

prisma briar
#

Seems needless to ignore them based off that, since it’s the Lego version, it’s fun for different reasons entirely

#

Still, I’ll get 100% eventually lol

There’s so much shit to collect

I saw plenty of issue with the sequels but still found their Lego form great fun, especially exploring a broken Death Star in IX with rather entertaining Stormtrooper voice clips throughout,
There’s a lot to love about the Lego forms
