I thought the name for it before it was revealed could’ve been “Green Day”
Fingers crossed that Green Day doesn't repeat the cycle they've been on for over a decade and release an off-the-deep-end experiment
i know yeah
Isn't that what they've always done?
Nimrod and Warning were considered experimental at the time
And Warning was not well received when it came out
Kinda but those albums still felt like Green Day regardless of what snobby critics and indecisive fans said
The issue I find with Green Day for a while was that unless they're playing it completely safe, any experiments completely abandoned their strengths
That’s hows a band grows imo
Who wants safe Samee shit
That's totally fair, my gripe is less about experimenting and more about those experiments entirely abandoning their sonic characteristics
That's what people hated about FOAMF, it had nothing that would tell you it was GD besides the title
Billie Joe posted "Fever Tonight"
yeah with a guitar cover of Fever
which I think is pretty cool he is acknowledging the song
I can't listen to Goodnight Adeline. Billie seems like he's struggling to sing, especially when he changes key on the last section of the song
Where did he post it? Checked his insta and there's nothing there
Best song on saviors
It was on his story
Saviors takes it's good ol' time to kick in
id love to see an update if ur still going lol
Nothing crazy but I did reach 12K
do you still like fancy sauce
yea
Wow
Dilemma and Coma City imo
none they all suck
friendship with saviors ended
Clancy is my new best friend
Goodnight Adeline
One eyed bastard to me, it’s even become my all time favorite song
Its Dilemma
Like that’s just the answer
The American Dream is killing me
Father to a son is also underrated
Dilemma
I'm a huge Twenty One Pilots fan and I didn't like Clancy much at all sadly
Overcompensate was the only single I liked and the rest of the album didn't grab me (except for Oldies Station, that song is super good imo)
For me it's Goodnight Adeline or 1981
I also love Fancy Sauce and Suzie
awh man
honestly when I heard the album for the first time at the listening party, I was disappointed and thought it wasn’t that great
once it released and I’ve been able@to listen to it properly, it started growing on me more and more
Maybe I should listen to it more yeah
the only song I really don’t like now is Oldies Station 😭
the lyrics are cute but they’re also so fucking corny
Next Semester grew on me a good bit now that I think about it
I think Snap Back does a much better job at portraying the same themes that Oldies Statiom tries to
but like Navigating, Vignette and Risk of Feeling Dumb are top tier
Dawg this is saviors discussion not 21 pilots discussion
you’re acting like this thread was popping off with messages beforehand
Y'know what I'll give the album a few more listens rn
Cuz those songs do have a lot of good stuff in them so I'm sure they'll grow on me
Idk why Scaled and Icy clicked with me on first listen more than this album tho lol
I hated SAI at first but that one grew on me a ton 😭 if you’re a huge top fan I’d give the album a few more listens juuuust to make sure. I feel like each top album took time to grow on me
Yeah I will definitely do that because I love all their other stuff
I even love Regional at Best
Glowing Eyes is one of my favorite Twenty One Pilots songs
I was never able to get into RAB😭 i can’t stand the Vessel songs on that album they’re so ass
Ode to Sleep and Trees do suck ass in Regional At Best
Especially Trees holy shit
But I do really like all the others
oh yeah thats not very many
😭
buddy uses it as a noise maker
Anyone know were we can find those limited edition badges
Are they hidden or can you buy them at merch stands
Should be at the merch but they are sold out very fast
I didnt end up getting one because it didn’t say ‘Manchester’ and I was disappointed
I ain‘t got one too. Was too late
Do you guys know where to buy tour merch? because that pink jersey wasn't sold where I saw them and I kinda want it....
saviors is an album that exists
they sell the merch at the gigs but i didn't see and pink jerseys when i was there tonight
they didn't sell them in switzerland either
Hi
Saviors update: still goes fuckin hard
frrrrr
Saviors slaps front to back and you guys who say it's mediocre are missing out
I love it
Imagine actually thinking its mid
saviors best album since 2004
I think some fans tend to overrate their old stuff because of a connection they had to it growing up
The band's simply had time now to have duds in their catalog, it isn't like they stopped having good albums. There's only really 2 bad projects in their discography
ngl when it came out i thought it was kinda mid, but the songs’ve grown on me and it’s prolly in my top 3 GD albums now
guys the american idiot 20th anniversary box set is coming thursday for me
Please keep us updated because I gotta know if it actually gets shipped before October lol
ok bet lol
Green Day kicked off production of their new album in the fall of 2021 at RAK Studios in London, England. The band are currently continuing work on the album at Ocean Way Recordings in California.

release already
You mean if tre dies on his birthday?
I hope so
probably summer this year
me going to target when 1972 drops
also me going to billie joes big mansion tower place asking why 1972 taking so long
big mansion tower place
HELP
or the studio they’re in now which I think is the same one where they recorded american idiot
yeah
billie joe tower > donald trump tower
true
billie joe tower should exist and become famous
(More famous than trump tower)
and we need a guy to climb the tower
and Green Day news is on the outside of it and the reporter is tre cool
me
Billie Joe tower
my god
I dont think he would enjoy having a tower very much
but it would be funny
Can't wait for a good riddance or warning style song
I’m going to duel billie Joe
This is taking way too long
He thought new MCR would distract me
It did and it still is but sooner or later I’ll remember about 1972
I always imagined Billie Joe living in a big mansion like rappers or in a giant fancy apartment
Well
It's that or a rush job like FOA
plot twist: their done w/ 1972 and just are making new songs after that and don’t want to release it yet
jk but I think they started the teasers for the new songs a little too early and thats why
but still some albums take a very long time
like american idiot started in like 2003/late 2002
but why crush music why do you have to do this to us
i am so ready for this album
Saaaammme
same
The music in the background for the teasers 👌
Hope that accoustic song is just as good as Macy's Day Parade or something like that
Yasssss
Tre posted a picture of him recording claps. Is that worrying anyone else?
Claps were a major negative in FOAM
i think its gonna be fine with rob producing it
and i think the reason why people hated the claps in foam is because of the bad production and mixing
Remember
This is the same Rob Cavallo who added strings in Good Riddance in 15 minutes
I think we are in safe hands
True, im super happy about that. Making an album without rob was such a bad idea
Then again he did help on the trilogy
The concern surrounding clapping seems pretty silly to me. It's merely another tool in the toolshed.
I think its overblown too
As some people said, clapping in GD isnt a new thing
it was shit in FOAMF sure but that was synthetized clapping
yea isn’t there clapping in east jesus nowhere
during that bass part
but it actually like went with it though
and it was only a small portion of the song
honestly sometimes the claps are fine it's just how much they are used
yeahh
And that's the story of every song played on the radio
cant wait for this
1972 is actually a reference to how many years from 2021 it will take for the album to release
you mustve cracked the code
WOAHHHHHH THATS SO BIG BRAIN
Respect 👍
I'm very excited for this album.
Father Of All was a bit of a one-trick pony. I despise a lot of parts of that album, it's got it's rare moments but it's for sure their weakest album imho. 1972 feels like them throwing a lot more creatively at the wall, the little snippets we possess sound far more liberated than what FOA was.
So, why does everyone hate Father of All Motherfuckers
#975429752036946003
It's pretty generic. I do like the title track and Take The Money And Crawl quite a bit. I think if the drums had a bit more punch, it would give the album more weight.
as long as you don't take FOAM seriously, it's an enjoyable album
Yeah, it's a fun groovy little time when it's at it's best. It's actually super cool of Green Day to make an album like that 'cause it shows they're still willing to push themselves in new directions.
Yeah, it definitely has more of a pop punk feel than green day usually has
Yeah, it's biggest weakness is the production is kind of meh. I know they were trying to go for that stadium stomper Garage sound, however it didn't need to sound like that. So glad Butch isn't working on this album now.
No offense, I'm sure he's a fantastic producer outside of that.
It's just Rob is kind of the butter to Green Day's bread, ya know?
definitely
I'm gonna give you a scientific explanation.
It sucks.
Nah, seriously though, it's very frustrating to wait 4 years for an album, and they come up with 25 minutes of car commercial music
i don't think 1972 will be great either, but for sure a major step up from FOAMF or maybe the trilogy
Green Day has been on a steady decline for a while. They peaked with American Idiot and then felt this burst that pretty pathetically died out.
They burnt themselves out by doing too much.
Breakdown was just them riding the coattails of that success, understandably after Nimrod and Warning got unnecessarily shafted then instead of taking a break from all of this, they release a whole trilogy of albums. FOAMF is the consequence of that.
a lot of what green day has been doing post ai is chasing the success of ai and 21st cb
during the trilogy billie was mostly drunk but it seemed like he just wanted to ride the success of 21st cb
and rev rad seemed like a return to form
idk how to describe foam tho
FOAMF was some weird off-world Foxboro, I have really zero clue why they did it under the Green Day name.
Nah that's Dos
Hm, that's true too.
I really want that introspective side we saw on RevRad to return, Holy Toledo seemed like that party vibe they were chasing on FOAMF finally nailed down, hopefully the dying embers of that era
They seem to have completely left behind that era and for the better, there’s zero chance of a FOAMF repeat for them turning 50, the tepid response to that album should finally nail home the need to move on, to grow, look inwards, reflect. They know now they can’t make care-free party songs, they’re, if not already, gonna be grandparents soon, so I hope for a more introspective and politically charged album to celebrate turning 50.
Billie mentioned somewhere the lyrics aren't going to be very politically driven, more self-satirical and sarcastic.
Their most recent songs sound to be a transitioning into 72, they are more typical Green Day with small changes like synthesizers and more technical lead playing.
agreed
and i honestly dont care if the album is gonna have political stuff or not
id prefer if some songs had political stuff but mostly not similar to rev rad
i just want music i dont care if its political
yeah but we need more than just clips 😦
1972 years from now
fuck that
we need an offical announcment
like
album announcment
or single announcment
Well, of course
I’m down bad for this album fr
Did this for fun
They released another clip of them in the recording studio today on tiktok
Sounds like surf/dance music
Soo basically Last Ride In?
Basically???
Only on the more upbeat side
New teaser sounds alright
More FOAMF vibes than revrad unfortunately but could be good
That acoustic guitar clip released like 5 months ago
And everyone thought they’d split when it was released
Sounds nothing like FOAM to me
I agree
yeah i agree as well
Everything they released sounds super diverse
agreed
If Green Day's throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks that could be a very good sign of things to come. I just hope they take the time to really make this album the best it can be.
i hope so too
Give us another song like King For A Day
Yes pls
It just feels right to return that style
yep
imo their experimental songs with exploring using different musical instruments were their best on nimrod
yeah
i really like rock that uses other instruments
even if it's just a live thing it adds so much atmosphere
nice
oh ok
How many months in succession to the album does Green Day normally release singles?
with any album it's usually a few months before
Is it just me or does the music in the 1972 Teasers sound like something from the trilogy but better?
Funny cause the trilogy had teasers too
to me it sounds nothing like the trilogy
they sound like pre ai green day in terms of production
the guitar tone is crunchy and the guitar tone on the trilogy is clean
the teasers also remind me of the ai and 21st cb b-sides
Which is a great sign
yeah
this one from tiktok
also this one
Green Day post the 6th studio teaser for their upcoming album 1972. Video courtesy of u/alpha708 on Reddit. Full story: https://greenday.fm/news/billie-joe-posts-and-quickly-deletes-new-studio-clip/
to me it sounds like pinhead gunpowder blended in with ai/21stcb b sides and pre ai green day with mike and tres influence and rob producing it
since billie and jason are the only gd members in pinhead gunpowder
Oh yeah, it totally does have those vibes to it. That's a really good sign, I hope we aren't getting our hopes up higher than they should be.
judging by the vocals we can sort of hear in the 6th teaser im sure we wont have the foam vocals
so im sure the album will be better than the trilogy
and better than foam
So at least 21st Century Breakdown or Revolution Radio?
I want something like Nimrod, not the exact sound but the same feel to it.
i want something pop punky like pre trilogy gd and with the vibe of nimrod and warning and dookie
Sadly, I don't think we're getting that here. None of the songs so far remind me of 90s Green Day. I think they've completely removed themselves from that sound.
to me it kinda reminds me of 90s green day and pinhead gunpowder
I can hear that, assuming that teaser #6, teaser #3 and that "rawr" clip are the same song, it sounds like an old school rager.
just let the 90s be their own thing there are so many bands that sound like that
Bands should evolve overtime, that sound though is so signature Green Day, it's still within their musical DNA, it's just evolved with the band and the times.
the fact every teaser on tik tok has American Idiot music makes me think they’re gonna go for the more serious grungey vibe
i'd rather wait and it be good than have it now and suck
so tre's birthday then
i dont think were gonna get anything on tres birthday since we didnt get anything on billie or mikes birthdays
were probs gonna get a single september like we did for foam and the album will come out most likely around early 2023
makes sense
Single late 2022
Album early 2023
Wait I thought it was crunchy on the trilogy too
Oh yeah! Lmaoo
it kinda is
its really clean tho
its really clean compared to any of the other albums as well
Plot twist: 1972 is actually going to be the band's new name, signalling a new chapter in their career
😟
no more weed day?
That is not happening lol
Yeah there gonna turn there name into thug day and the music videos will have women and mansions and the lyrics will be similar to Longview
Oh and the foam producer will produce all future albums
And most of the videos are desaturated too.
hell yea
LOLL
that makes sense , im excited !
yeah , foamfs was good , but it wasn't the same . that doesn't necessarily make it bad , though . my thoughts , of course
Beverly Hills by Green Day
They went from Sweet Children to Green Day. What's next? Masturbation Hour? (I know that name is more of a Dookie kind of name but it's the best alternate name I could come up with)
no
why would any band change their name when they've been big the last 30 years with that name
different band different name
they wouldnt
hm
This is gonna be an interesting album.
This is absolutely the damage control album.
It's also one of their most important releases because it marks their beginnings as free agents of their own craft and it's being made around the time they turn 50, no doubt an important age to them as people and as a band, considering they're edging the last few decades of their life.
If this is to say anything, it's to say this album will be a reflection of the legacy of Green Day and be artistically a culmination of what they've done in the last decade with a back to roots flavor.
This man speaks the truth
19
72
WAS
NEVER
REALLLLLLL
It's an illusion
i wish green day could go back to there punk roots
Sounds like that's what this album sort of is
Green Day will never be those bratty adolescents again. They're 50 year old dads now who have had decades of major label success.
i hope they do more matured pop punk like rev rad
yeah but if they keep doing the same thing it gets boring
definitely should build off that style tho
never gonna happen
It's not nessesarily a bad thing
Too
Artists who always stay focused on one genre seem to burn out of new content rather rapidly
I think it's cool that they're experimenting with new genres even if it doesn't always work
R/1972doesntexist
wee oo i look just like buddy holly
I’m down to start meming about the album not being real
If we add all the numbers in 1972 it makes 19 like Covid 19 and everyone knows Covid isn't real so 1972 isn't real either
It sounds like a mix between the better tracks on Uno and some Rev Rad.
The music in the teasers do sound like that so maybe they might
i hope
i hope they do something more in the same vein as kerplunk and dookie but with better equipment and with greater maturity, billie has stated kerplunk is his favorite green day album so its not impossible
It's definitely not. Rob Cavallo can bring that old sound out of them easily. I don't think we'd get those types of albums again, 1972 could have traces of their DNA.
I wouldn't be disappointed if it's in the style of uno but with just a little more power and bite to the sound... which is exactly what I'm expecting
I don't nessesarily want them to go back, trying too hard to sound like before doesn't always end well and artists often mature for a reason
But incorporating past elements does sound interesting
It would be cool to hear synths, unorthodox pedals and drum machines mixed into the more Punk tracks.
I want them to do what Weezer did with their White Album
An updated sound with old influences
I'm hoping it's gonna have some of the same goofy energy as uno, and maybe even like kerplunk
That would actually sound pretty pogg
I think the more they,re gonna try to sound like before, the further away they'll actually end up
Imagine they pull a cigarettes and valentines...
No I mean they pretend that it got stolen and completely rewrite another album
Ah the ultimate way to delay an album
Yeah bands don't tend to go back in terms of sound. I'm thinking, and hoping for reasons previously mentioned, that it's gonna be like RevRad, cause so far that was their best "modern" album
revrad is the best
A band comparing themselves to their first albums is setting the bar high
And more often than not, a bad sign
So really, I'm hoping for revrad sounds
i guess but something new that works could be cool idk if that's pushing it
So far, it sounds like a compromise between both worlds
Has there been any sneak peeks recently
there hasnt been any news at all this month
i hope we get an official announcement on the album itself than another snippet of a song so we will know when to expect a single to drop
I really really think it's coming in 2023
A single maybee in late 2022
Billie did say he was working on a new album to come out in 2023
But that could easily be a side project
The first one is better, second one's okay though
now that they arent touring as of now, do you guys think green days gonna go back into the studio
I don’t think 1972 is actually an album
I’m convinced it was nothing and that them being in the studio is merely a coincidence at this point because I don’t see how they’d have an album name already at that point if it really isn’t ready yet
I heard something about a new record in 2023
That hashtag was put that fan account not the band themselves
There’s no source right now stating that the new record would be called 1972
Only speculation
fair point
All the videos they released have 1972 symbolism.
It could be called [Blank] 1972
Or it could have nothing to do with 1972 and we're all stupid for falling for it lol
It might not
What if it's a tag tied to an event that it's named after?
It’s the year they were born so it could very well just be nothing
I dunno dude at this point I'm exited to get anything
What if 1972 IS a 6 track ep and next year we get a whole 12-14 track LP
Year Of The Motherfuckers? Lol
I saw on tik tok somebody posted something that rob cavallo said that it’s almost done and just needs to be mastered
But it very well could be heresay
Yeah but that doesn’t guarantee the album is gonna be called 1972
True
my theory is 1972 is taking so long because of touring + mixing and recording, im guessing their gonna do an ep this year then next year the same ep but with extra songs so a 12 or more song lp
This could be their big comeback.
I think at least the parts from around 45 second are the same.
Most of the parts work together, albeit very loosely
The first part might be the end of the song and the "chorus" the solo.
hope that 1972 comes out soon
oh damn
but rob cavallo said
that the album its ready
that the production is the only thing left
maybe
the longshot twitter reopened
what does that mean
source?
I hope it's not going to be called 1972
It's a bad name imo
Unless there's some kind of meaning I'm unaware of
They were all born in 1972 I think
Imagine they named it like “One Thousand Nine Hundred Seventy Two” just to mess with people
It would even make more sense to me if they used more ramones influence in this album
Classic Punk/Rock influence from the '70s is the most logical route. Make something they would love from their youth with their own little spice in the throws.
I don't think it's one of THEIR new songs but it is a nice song... and finally another teaser
LMao
He looks so into it going "psshhhh" and making explosions with his hand lmao. Gotta love 'em
It likely is
When did Rob say that?
that is a good thing tbh
Billlie joe looks like one of your dads work friends whose kids you didn’t like and your parents made you stay with anyways because they had better things to do than to watch you
Sounds sick
^^
True
It's at least gonna be as good as Rev Rad
Yeah
It sounds like that as a throwback to 70s guitar driven Punk, which they've always borrowed from.
They tried doing that a bit on Uno. That didn't go too well because by then they had written some of their best material ever and were overworked with that sound.
To me its like a mixture of Redundant and Freak by Silverchair
Some Dirnt bass line from 72
