Kill the hands first as the head gets increased defense when the hands are alive. When one of the hands is dead, he starts shooting skulls. Circling when he shoots skulls is a good strategy. Lastly, absolutely do not get hit by the head, as you get stunlocked and killed very quickly
Bring some buff potions as well and put up campfires and heart lanterns around the arena, and stars in bottles too if you are mage

Is when you start a new world, place the gel in your ammo slot. that way, whenever u kill a slime u dont have to worry about inventory space, it will just go to the ammo slot
