If you can, I'd recommend wiring together a timer and an imp statue, as imps can be spawned that way now.
Otherwise, yeah, your choices are basically either farming imps in hell, or fishing. There is a chance for Lava Charm to appear in some chests near hell (importantly, not the shadow chests, though there's a suggestion in the forums recommending that it be moved there), but it's generally not worth going for.

It's a pretty alright mount for getting up high, but that's about it. It has pretty sucky horizontal movement, but given that it can hover and fly, it's pretty darned good, and it's a bit of a shame it's not used as much.

If you're not opposed to fishing, the pigron mount (underground infected tundra fishing, "scaly truffle") is a darned good flying mount last I checked. It's not like, infinite flight, but it moves pretty quickly and you get some good flight out of it.

Trying here by recommendation, I hope I can get this working! I can't load the game, and I have tried a bunch of things, and it still won't launch. Bone stock, fresh win10 install. I have a log file that references XNA, but it looks like XNA is fine? I uninstalled/reinstalled XNA (And terraria several times) to no effect. I have a log file, but I think that's what got me muted.

Maybe on Steam cloud if you were using cloud saving. Turn it off of course if you are using it, as it has a tendency to corrupt saved files.

I've held a number of conversations about the new liquid that was added in 1.4.4 (titled "Shimmer"), and of what I've seen, it is by large supported as-is in the community -- to the point that suggestions for any proposed changes are actively disliked.
So what is it that you lot like about this stuff? Like, in-depth, why is it so spankin' good that would warrant that nothing should be changed about it?
[By contrast], I really dislike it, because of how inconsistent it is, and how much is not explained to the player, and I want to understand how so many of y'all find that appealing.
Trying to find ideas to suggest to be implemented in Vanilla, this is one I keep coming back to because I want to make it work in a way that benefits everyone.

For sure, free modifiers is a nice plus, though it requires that the item was crafted in the first place.
Not really a lot getting in the way of that, excepting the copper shortsword/tools which don't return full materials

This is an unexplained mechanic; some bosses have specific criteria about whether they should despawn or not. Many require it to be night time (including the Eye of Cthulhu), others have biome conditions (brain and eater), or need to be within a certain distance to target (most), and others just won't despawn outright (queen bee, most notably).

Up/down movement is almost a necessity for this; I would say you should always either be flying upwards or falling downwards during third phase. I personally also recommend using Shield of Cthulhu in addition, as you can use it to dash into the boss to gain a few iframes.
Otherwise it's kind of just learning how to evade, the pattern is very consistent; 1 dash, 2 dashes, 3 dashes, repeat.

Ordinary Mimics look like chests until approached or attacked, at which point they come to life and chase the player by hopping towards them. Before revealing themselves, they take on the appearance of chests normally found in the biome they are encountered in: regular Chests above the Underground layer, Gold Chests Underground, and locked Shadow Chests in The Underworld.
Mimics that spawn in a Snow biome on Ice or Snow Blocks take on the appearance of Frozen / Ice Chests and also have their own unique set of ice-themed drops.
Says it's biome and depth related, not so much the tiles that they spawn on. Maybe you can point to somewhere in Terra source that contradicts this?

High pen weapons are best. Daedelus storm bow is a good example, as well as pretty much anything using crystal bullets.
Honestly my best recommendation would be daedelus storm bow with holy arrows. Make sure you have a good arena to run back and forth, fighting him on the ground is the last thing you want.
The rainbow gun is also good if you can manage to get the biome key.
Above all, remember potions, honey, and heart lanterns. Maybe even a campfire if you're feeling spicey. It's always good to ha e the nurse set up nearby for if you panic. It's very niche, but cannons are also useful when bought from the Pirate Captain.

Abigail works very well on a straight bridge
like first phase u wont need the mount, second phase u can use it perfectly fine or just slow down for her to catch up sometimes

You could use an item world, but doing either really takes away from the fun of the game, especially if it’s your first play through, so I would really recommend working up yourself
