Offensively, Hallowed and Chlorophyte are superior to Turtle. If you're using weapons like Terra Blade, however, Beetle Might is hard to pass up, however. Beetle Shell can also have some nice uses with an ever increasing damage reduction.

3 tiles is the minimum, as the range of biome spread is 3 tiles. You have to extend the tunnel above the surface or line it with ropes to block thorns spreading over the gap and corrupting blocks. The evil biome side should also be lined with noncorruptible blocks on the sides of the tunnel where it is, to prevent grass from growing and eventually spreading thorns onto the other side of the shaft.

It depends based on weapon. Something like Sniper Rifle is quite solid and benefits from critical hit rate bonuses, but, say, Chlorophyte Shotbow generally performs better than Hallowed Repeater despite having a lower base damage.

It's not just decent. Depending on the minion, it stays relevant for the entirety of the remaining game thanks to its hit effect synergizing well with Sanguine Staff, the now boosted Abigail, the Desert Tiger and especially Stardust Dragon.

No, because it can affect any corruptible block within 3 blocks of it. You need either a 3 tile wide gap, or fill 3 tiles of space with incorruptible blocks to stop the spread. When digging containment shafts, the evil biome side should also have incorruptible blocks on this sides of the tunnel to prevent grass from growing and generating thorns.

It's expensive and not very accurate, often resulting in jagged shafts you can easily die from fall damage in. The exception to this is if you don't have a Bone or Molten Pickaxe with mining speed boosts, as early pickaxes are slow for this job.

Most will do fine, as long as it has a bit of range, since King Slime has no projectile attacks and running in a straight line means the slime minions spawned can't do anything to you. Options include yoyos such as Amazon, any bow or gun, any Gem Staff and most later magic weapons, Snapthorn with Finch Staff or Flinx Staff, and more.

Each altar destroyed generates more of one type of ore. It'll cycle through the tiers, from 1 to 3, then repeat, giving you less ores with every repetition.

While he does have a somewhat basic pattern and his arms and head can be taken down fairly quickly, it will spam projectiles in its second phase nearly non-stop until either the head or the body is destroyed, which can be rather overwhelming, especially if its fists are still alive.
