its just random. you can save/copy your world file before smashing the alters and keep reloading the world until you get the 3 ores you wanted.

Personally, I killed King Slime with Platinum set + Minishark on Master Mode. Super easy boss as long as you keep distance

I would argue Eye of Cthulhu could be easier + you get a good accessory from him. King Slime contact damage is like 3x higher than EoC

Obviously don't forget about every single potion you can use to buff, food buff and campfires all around the arena even if it helps barely. Still counts.

Im doing an expert mode playthrough and am getting ready for skeletron. I know its insanely difficult on expert mode but what kind of suggestions do you guys have for the fight? I already have max health and molten as well as a make-shfit arena.
