Well, I might decide about weapon/armor/accessories later, but here are some tips:

Furniture you can use for buffs:
Star in a bottle
Honey baths for regen
Heart lantern
Campfire
Crystal ball
Bast statue

Potions you can use for buffs:
Endurance potion
Ironskin potion
Lifeforce potion
Magic power potion
Mana regeneration potion
Regeneration potion
Wrath potion (requires corruption)

Also eat some food that gives major buff, like bacon.
You can place 3 heart statues and activate them, they will spawn 3 hearts, each one healing you for 20 hp.
You can also kill some boss like EoC and use hearts dropped by it as an emergency.
Another thing you can do is place nurse near the arena.

What I'd recommend buying, if you don't have it already, is the minishark from the gun dealer

If you go to the corruption / crimson and break one of the hearts / orbs, it'll always drop a gun first

and once you get a gun the arms dealer will be able to spawn in your world if you make him a house

you can buy a minishark from him which is one of the best pre hardmode weapons
