He'd still have too high defense after Ichor's reduction. You'd have to use Betsy's Wrath on top of that to even get past the higher defense parts, and you lose the damage over time.

Most strategies that work against Eater should do against Phase 1 of Brain. Its second phase also doesn't have a lot of health. Worm Scarf can be used to better shield against frequent hits, such as those inflicted by Creepers.

Just use slimy saddle and jester arrows for phase 1 then use minishark in phase 2, he only managed to hit me once in 2nd phase with minishark because I set my target to auto hit him

Its defense is second to melee, yes, but mages have much greater weapon variety, capable of attacking at similarly great ranged with various homing and crowd control options, equally capable of dishing out great damage.
Meanwhile, if utilized effectively, summoners can be just as, if not more powerful, amplified by the fact they effectively already have homing capabilities and can attack remotely.

@wooden flax I dunno, I feel like that's not actually the case. Melee characters are basically invincible with certain armor combos. Range has a ton of weapons that just spam and decimate. Both summoner and mage are fragile. There doesn't seem to be much incentive to go mage or summoner unless you're just looking for a challenge. I'm no expert, I'm just stating my observations. And I'm still gonna do a mage playthrough. Just seems a bit unbalanced. And after going through a few forums on Reddit it doesn't seem like I'm alone in thinking this. There's no good reason for range to be that OP. Summoner has to get so much closer with their whip, I'm surprised their defense stat isn't swapped with range. That seems logical to me lol.

well heres the thing that defense discrepancy isnt that important perhaps a hit or two especially in higher difficulties yes melee can tank but all other class can tank too, infact with ooa summoner has a pretty easy time doing a tank setup
i find summoners weak parts mainly happen early game
but i also hate mages early game until getting like a zapinator or space gun or any other dungeon weapon

@west swallow okay, so summons best armor defense wise would be the Shinobi armor at 54 def. That really is pretty decent. Mage's best is Nebula at 46 def or for hybrid mage/ summoner the dark artist at 42. That's pretty rugged lol.

There's Valhalla Knight, which is one of the few truly bulky armor sets to cater to summoners. Most of the others are either better used during the OOA itself or used for optimizing stats via armor mixing.

Only use meteorite when u have full mana, then switch to zap when u ran out

Also, it grants 27% extra magic damage in total. You don't need to run as many mana boost accessories since Zap can sustain you while you recharge, and you can just use something like Demon Scythe when there's a window of opportunity.

Don't. You'll be fine either way. Just progress through Hardmode normally, beat a Mech, get Clentaminator, then clean up any problematic Corruption.
