playtest it yourself and compare it to other weapons roughly in the same tier. If your weapon has way higher or lower dps, you should probably tune it. Also consider whether there are drawbacks to the mechanics of the weapon and tune the numbers accordingly.

You can sometimes fix mechanically broken weapons with numbers. Not always.

The absolute weirdest issue we've faced was (nerd talk warning) an issue where an IL edit (a method by which we can manually change the assembly-like language which C# compiles to to change behavior in the vanilla game) would cause a crash only on Linux/MacOS, due to what would normally be an impossible branching path pre-emptively executing and resulting in a state where the call stack was incorrect. In lamens terms, botched heart surgery but for the game code

In terms of a scenario like this though, we did for a long time have our ability pickups (like the forbidden winds) count as hostile NPCs so that they could be collided with. We have a much more elegant solution to this now with a custom entity type but it was a very nasty way to do it before.

For the longest time, I just perused the Terraria wiki looking for stuff I found interesting. Other times, I'd notice stuff while I'm playing. Now, there are also people I know who suggest things to me.

All video ideas go into this list which I refer to for inspiration. Sometimes they leave... but overall, my idea creation process is very sporadic.

Sometimes stuff just comes at me in the shower.

I've played it as a player only a few times so far, actually, since I've been busy recently. My impressions of the new features are mostly like the crafting menu or something. I think I'm growing to like the new crafting menu.

Overall, honestly, it seems a lot smaller than 1.4.4, but maybe that's because I'm a mechanic/balance oriented person and 1.4.4 had a lot more changes and additions in that way, as well as the new Zenith seed, of course.

Overall, I think it's quite nice. Of course, there are a few controversial features, just like the last update, but overall positive.

I think my favorite video overall is probably the Guide Aether video where I go over why it happens (the newer one from 2025). I just like it. Maybe that's recency bias though.

I first got it because my 8-year old self (2015) thought it would be like Minecraft but more items and bosses.

I remember it was initially the choice between trying to learn to mod Minecraft (which for an 8 year old seemed daunting, yeah) and getting Terraria. I chose the latter.

I eventually grew to like the gameplay and progression and such, and as a YouTuber nowadays I enjoy more the technical side of it.

Yes, I have. During my initial grind during 2022-2023 following 1.4.4, I was very motivated, mostly due to two factors: first, I had absolutely nothing to do during that time since I was a random high school student, and second, I really wanted to feel some purpose creating something of value.

Of course, I was also motivated by the numbers too.

After the initial grind of essentially doing it as a part time job, and then moving to becoming more of an adult with my own responsibilities, I did feel enough burnout to no longer have the motivation to upload spontaneously like I did before.

It's better now, although during the 2024-2025 period I definitely did have to push myself to upload monthly sometimes if I didn't have any super good video ideas.

I rarely ever play modded Terraria, and the only content mods I've played are Calamity and Fargo's Eternity. That's all I can say.

Initially, mostly from the Wiki. I just do a random wander between pages.

Now, if I have a video idea, wherever it came from, I'll check the wiki page, test some in-game, and maybe try to read the source code if I can (with my limited knowledge). I can also ask the others who are vastly more knowledgeable than me.

Video creation is split between scripting, recording, and editing.

If I find an idea, I'll go look it up, and then make an outline, and then write my script. I'll record that script as a voiceover, then put it into Premiere.

While editing the video's animations and cuts and stuff, I film or get the footage I show as needed. I have Terraria/tMod running in the background and just record what I need.

Since I'm a YouTuber, my favorite mod is probably DragonLens, the really nice cheat mod I use. I don't play many other mods so I definitely can't give 10 answers.

One day in June 2017, after deleting my first channel, I wanted to create a second one. I came up (out of my ass) with EnchantedSpearsYT, and Terrasteel. I thought the first one sounded too much like Britney Spears so I went with the second.

Honestly, although I do use a lot of source code reference in some of my videos. I am not a skilled C# programmer. All of the fancier stuff that I talk about has been found and analyzed by others who are far more knowledgeable than me.

I'm a CS student but not one knowledgable in C#. I can definitely read the code and get the logic but I am not confident in my ability to create anything in C#.

Yes, I do. After all, it is the community here.

Balance is important though, and it has to apply evenly between casual players and hardcore players. If they nerf summoner for everyone so whip stacking can be back, it wouldn't really be great for the 90% who never whip stack.

IMO if they add back whip stacking, they should make it enabled via an accessory or something, which would apply some summoner nerfs (think like the Spectre Hood style) but enable whip stacking. We can get both styles to exist simultaneously.

My favorite boss is either the Empress of Light or Duke Fishron. Both of them have attack styles I like and a tolerable amount of bullet hell (if applicable). On my Legendary GFB playthrough I did Duke Pre-Mechs and EOL post-Plantera, and they took a hundred attempts each with full buffs grinded for each fight, but it was worth it.

My first Terraria vanilla and Calamity playthroughs with my brother. The first experience of discovering everything and just having fun is unforgettable. Now that I'm a Terraria YouTuber and nerd who has to understand everything, I will never have this experience again.

I start the game generally by exploring the world first and then setting up my chest system (sorted. I'm not a barbarian.)
Then, I'll generally try to go underground, or if I'm feeling fast, to the Jungle.

I'm not really good at early game, so I don't have tips to share in that end. For late game or general mechanics stuff, basically everything on my channel could count.

The most interesting thing for me, in the changelog, is that Lava Fishing is supposed to be even faster if you have all 3 lava fishing items now. Previously, if you had 2, you had a small boost.
However, you could not PAY me to farm for the Hotline Fishing Rod. I don't think I even have 125 quests done ever.

I don't recall a challenge that I have ever called off. Here and there I have videos I don't really feel like releasing but do because I try to keep a schedule and have nothing else. Some videos have even come out a year after the recording.

The One Year idea was literally me thinking of an easy video idea that doesn't require a high degree of skill because I wasn't and still am not the most skilled player. Pass the World was inspired by the Blackthronpod videos with devs making a game without communicating.

More survivor or large server related events. It's too much time for too little benefit for survivor [last one was 100+ hours and with its views it's not at all worth it]. And large servers would be great but I have limited server knowledge and Terraria is such an easy game for people to abuse in that setting.

Quite hard for larger collabs. For just a few people or just one, tends to be pretty simple. For Pass the World it's tough just making sure people finish their segments and don't forget about editing it and for Survivor getting 15+ people on a world at the same time for 8-10 weeks is quite the headache but it as simple as putting out polls to see what times people are free
