That staircase indeed looks good! I also enjoy that the straight platform, when touching a block, it gives a nice square-y block with just one chamfer/bevel, which can help making small roundish forms.

Yeah just use regular wood and paint it brown so it’s a bit darker imo. Isn’t too noticeable unless you play zoomed in

Crimstone brick and obsidian brick may also work. Although, I don’t know how well the obsidian brick would paint gray
