aaaanywho to comment on this, this seems to tie a lot more to how they feel as a builder in the community overall. obviously over the years there has been changes to the game that have been controversial for builders at varying scales, personally though a lot of the specific building tech changes hasn't really impacted me as much. a lot of the more advanced stuff they may have feelings about in those messages may not be something i have as much connection to

personally i sit in the position where i don't think i'll frankly be going anywhere from the terraria community for even the next decade because i still enjoy this game as my creative outlet & just a game to play

consider making the pillars themselves thicker so you have room to mix in other walls for extra detail, not necessarily stone. could be grey painted mudbrick, wood walls, actuated painted blocks, etc.
consider making a graveyard in your crafting area temporarily to get access to special recipes only available with ecto mist (which graveyards create)

I think it'd be cool if you tried making it into the living wood variant, but don't do a 1:1, i think the greenery will be a little excessive.
Try using the walls you can craft at the living loom (particularly the living leaf wall) to add a bit of a bushy look to any vegetation that has contact with the rim to give it that little pop to add texture to the silhouette if that makes sense

Also don't quote me on any of this im FAR from a good builder (but I'd like to be)

i usually use peoples builds as a reference and that's how i got around to doing some trees

i should probably make more so i don't get too rusty at it

tree leaves tend to exist in bunches. trying to make clumps come together is very important

try to avoid lots of straight lines and jagged edges and stuff (depending on what you need of course)

most importantly, trees are hard and you should be patient if it takes a while to get a feel for them

so for now, I would recommend actuating the tree trunk. It lets you work with more wood wall (so living wood wall, and then like corrupt tendril wall? there's more but I'm not so good with names)

another thing is layering

trees are relatively small builds, so try not to spend too long on any one, but do try to make an improvement with each one
