Should add a clearcoat to the meat
Will make it look more slimy and meaty
so clearcoat is a BSDF shader meant to expedite eyeball surfaces; the iris is a complex structure underneath the aquous humor and cornea. The effect in real life is that it looks like a complicated texture around the iris, but underneath a flat shiny outer surface. The reason it won't work on the meat is because the reflective surface sits on top of the normal map instead of obeying it. With clearcoat applied, it looks like meat trapped in a blob of epoxy
also this is all in Blender, and Dusk uses URP (universal Render Pipeline) which doesn't have this shader in it's Lit material definitions

In the SDK they're in mnt/local/dusk/textures
For other versions of the game, you will need to use a Unity game ripping tool such as AssetRipper

The 3DS branch of the engine was discontinued quite a while ago
So there's no legal way to do a 3DS port anymore

Even then you can't really do much with it, since Nintendo disallows publishing with old Unity versions

yes, but trenchbroom's rotate tool is known for being off grid + linked groups let you change stuff dynamically
so you could have something like an arch or a support in a linked group, make changes to it & itll affect all the other ones

for outside lighting i recommend you use a combination of _sunlight and _sunlight2
lemme pull up a guide on how to use these
before you start, you need sky brushes - basically a block in the sky that works as a celling with a texture that has to start with sky
to have that brush emit sunglight - have a light entity with a property _sun set to 1, and make it target any info_null entity
all the properties of your light entity will be what the sky brushes emit in the same direction as the sun is targeting the info_null
but if you want your map to have both sunlight and avoid awful pitch black shadows, you also need _sunlight2 as a property on worldspawn
the value of it will determine it's intensity (works the same as light intensity on normal lights), and _sunlight2_color does exactly what you think it does, changes the color of this ambient light

so it goes hand in hand with your normal sunlight

Is there a way to make a trigger active only after picking up an item? like for instance you walk into a room (the doorway has a trigger, but its not active so nothing happens), then you pick up a key, which activates the trigger, and the trigger is only pressed when you go through the door again.

so, this is gonna be a little confusing but here we go
while we cant (to my knowledge) do trigger activation, we can instead hide the trigger underground and move it upwards to the place you want it to be in
this is doable via the following setup
You'll need to have a func_door hidden outside, your trigger you want to move, and the trigger that will start the whole thing (a target string on the key should work)
First, make the door and the trigger brushes match each other in size
place the door in such a way that it would move down and make the trigger follow it's movements, making the trigger land in the doorway where you want it to
for example, i'll show a similar setup
i have this doorway i want to fill in with a trigger....
so i placed a door and a trigger above them
the door will move down and take the trigger with it, while being out of view and letting the trigger fill the doorway
but now we actually need to make the trigger move with the said door
let's start with the simple
i connect the key to the door, so when you touch the key - the door opens
the door has a targetname OOBDoor, and i'll use it now for parenting the trigger to the door
put a propery "parentname" on your trigger and set the door's targetname as the value
i THINK that should do it

its the gog version but its just the raw files, unfortunately running gog on the tiny computer im using would explode the poor thing i think...

dusk is drm-free (on both steam and gog), so you can get the files on your main computer and copy them to the pi without issue

firstly, it obviously looks fucking incredible, huge props to that
i like that it's short and sweet, but also utilizes all of it's available space to the fullest
it's a shame the boneballs lack proper AI but it's not your fault lmao
it was hard to tell where i was at times even in such a small place, as each corner of the map looked pretty much exactly like the opposite one, so i often had to do laps around the place to find a spot that i needed
encounters are good, but im personally not a fan of horrors in general combat due to how damn annoying and unpredictable they can be, but overall very good balance, had close calls that i was able to pull through

@crisp raven Holy shit, i played your Collapse and Decay map and i am in absolute awe
this might just be some of the best level design i have ever seen to come out of dusk mapping and im not saying that lightly
visually i found the map to be pretty simple, but HOLY christ the sheer amount of thought and effort that must have went into making such an interconnected map must be absolutely insane
im seriously shocked at just how well it plays
and ALL the encounters felt fair
every single one
and they were actually fun
like, im baffled how i never ever got lost in a level so complex is this, yet 100% realised that it's insanely interwoven
i honestly dont have much else to say, absolutely spectacular job, uploading both videos now

Yeah, rotating doors are supported but they're GoldSrc-style, which TrenchBroom (currently) doesn't have the right tool support for

Add a music key to your worldspawn and set the value to a directory like this "music/e1m2_ambient.ogg"

vanilla dusk doesnt do that
you can have a trigger_count to trigger the ambient track when all the enemies are dead
and yea keep in mind that trigger_changemusic isnt like trigger_once or whatever
you have to actually target it with something for it to active, like another trigger
it wont activate on it's own when you pass through

i played that map, my opinion:
it looks sooo cool, the arena design is really interesting, but the combat isnt fun for me
prolly because it just drops you in with no weapons, then all the weapons i got after werent the ones id use in that situation
and most enemies didnt fit imo: horrors and wendigos should be used in more closed quarters environments, and dont forget the boneballs are broken so they fly away annoyingly
but as i said, very fun arena design, ill maybe make an arena horde mode type of map sometime

You can replace textures. replace the models of most enemies and add maps. But you cannot add weapons or do any scripting

Being made in 1996 and all, with it only having been popularized by New Blood's 2018 remaster of the game, people often forget that Dusk is actually the first instance of video game microtransaction in the industry, by a long period of time too! As the next instance, the horse armor from Oblivion, was a whopping 10 years later!
It was nice of them to let people use old accounts so you could have all your old skins in the remake.

Oh yeah I remember reading a thing about when Psygnosis licensed an early prototype of the Quake Engine after David Lawson met Carmack at GDC way back, and started working on Dusk, but the working title was "Backwoods massacre" back then. Struggled like hell to get it to work, and they had to pester ID troubleshooters just to get the pixel-renderer to work. But it turned out to be a great testing ground for the company, despite mediocre sales.
Honestly there isnt much point in returning to it nowadays considering Dusk 2 does pretty much everything better
