Well for starters i had no idea that the guns in old FPS games were part of the HUD, i thought they were separate

hm I guess the HUD / Plane part I think is more of a Unreal specific thing and how the team saw it best fit to solve that problem
instead of bruteforce drawing sprites using the HUD they used geometry instead, which makes it much easier to have things like weapon lag when looking around etc..

I actually got lost in my first playthrough of AE
like I thought I needed to exit the level at the wrong point in the level (like I thought a part of the level looked like it was the end)
but apparently I'm blind and didn't see the path forward so I spent like 25 minutes back tracking and pacing around the map trying to figure out where I was supposed to go
And then I saw an enemy and I was like "Okay there we go" and then beat the level
But honestly that's the fun of most of these games NB have published
Sometimes you don't expect to get lost in them gamepaly wise, but you do
And when you do you sometimes learn more about how each game's level design and choice of directing the player is like
Ultrakill: Simple, clear, one way path that's usually close to the start or always in the line of sight when you enter the room
Dusk: Also linear, but adds some curvature or deviation to the path, like putting keys behind killing something or it's right in your face around the corner
AE: Follow the enemy and items, while also having a relatively wider linear path and scope of where you can go at any given time and not be funneled in like how Ultrakill funnels the navigation down to "right in front of you"

I'm on E3 and so far I haven't really found any enemy weaknesses (other than aiming for the head most of the time), besides the Protectors as they seem to go down with one shot of the Celestial Claw.
