you can do Moon Guardian, Forgemaster and Twin Terrors Axe-Only easily
you can't do Scrounge, Corrupted Spirit or Solar Saint as easily but its still possible

Second time you encounter the Twin Terrors I also count as a bossfight, and I don't think they're ever in melee range there.

Corrupted Spirit is like, REALLY hard because the projectiles it throws at you sends you flying and getting close basically necessitates the invincibility powerup

FSR is algorithmic and works on any GPU

Each of their performance seems to vary a bit between games using them, too.
In games with Raytracing, it seems Nvidia GPUs with DLSS has the edge relatively consistently.
... so basically, with any game that supports both, try them both to see which one works best with your GPU and settings.
Doesn't seem to be a clear winner overall.

It seems to be random. While I haven't timed it, it feels like it usually happens 20-30 minutes after I start playing.
Usually just walking through a level when it happens.
If it means anything, it started around when I reached the Sacred Path, but that was also around when the update dropped, and it persisted when I reached the Solar Solstice

Speaking of bugs. The "activating SteamVR" thing does persist, and it does affect performance but I've figured out a way to tab out and return the audio to the right audio interface, and it still plays on the desktop so a little 3090 brute force makes it perfectly playable at 144ish fps with most things maxed out.

I loaded the game up, and then noticed that pressing "Continue" loaded the title screen with a weapon
But clicking made the game go to the title again
so I did a quick save and load was then able to eternally enter the Hell Dimension

It's probably just something wonky on my end, rather than the game client, I think.
I have one of those weird systems with a bunch of peripherals introducing weird issues. Dual audio interfaces, multiple controllers (wheel, pedals, joysticks etc), TrackIR, VR software installed and so on and so forth.
Once it turned out my VPN of all things introduced graphic glitches in a game. That one was weird af. Worked consistently though. Turn off VPN, everything was hunky dory. Turn it on, game glitched out.

Honestly, using Auto soul mode is probably better. If I don't, I just end up 'saving it for important fites' and then almost only ever use it on bosses.
Or by accident.
That said, saving it up for bosses is a pretty huge 'I Win' button.
The magic of no hitscanners. Partly, at least. That alone is such a huge deal for making things 'fair' in these shooters.
