I lost my saves and am restarting my playthrough of the black labrynth. I did it the first time on evil difficulty, then lost my saves near the end due to syncing issues switching to Linux, and decided to play on medium this time. More medium means more chanes to punchhhhh

Just joined because I noticed an amid evil switch port was previously mentioned, with it even being listed as tba on Wikipedia and gamefaqs, but nothing has ever come of it.

Will it ever happen? Just watching civvie11 play the game for 13 minutes has convinced me that I need this game at some point. The colors, the combat, the visuals, it all grabbed me in a way that dusk didn’t.

I’ve got a laptop, but I’ve never used steam ever, and i’ve gotten to where I just don’t really like playing games on a separate monitor/tv. I like the handheld form factor. That’s why I only ever play my switch in handheld mode.

And, I can’t afford a steam deck. And don’t really want one either, just because of all the tinkering it needs and issues it has, even if it could also be great.

I HIGHLY Recommend getting steam and understanding it

Steam is basically broken up into like 6 parts:
Store (buy games and DLCs)
Library (games and DLCs you own)
Community market (trade, buy, sell game items for money or other items)
Community forums/posts (self explanatory)
private chats and friend lists
workshop (built in mod library for certain games)

you can have tons of games in your library and not need to download or have a hard copy of them

even old games from the 90s, remasters of old games, and the newest releases or re-releases on steam

Just spent 15 plus minutes messing around with trying to rebind "spacebar" (default it is bound to jump) to move backwards.

Intuitive process (aka let me decide where the chips (key binds) fall):
Go to Move Backwards > left click > bind key you want (regardless if it is bound elsewhere)

Unintuitive process (current default install of Amid Evil):
Try to rebind Move Backwards > left click > won't allow key bind
Find out what Spacebar is bound to (jump in this case) > left click on jump > bind to some other key
Try to rebind Move Backwards > left click > allows spacebar key bind but only if you hold down the spacebar key. As soon as you let the key return it awaits a different key press.

Most inconvenient process possible and please time travel me back to 96' (nearly 30 years ago) for manually editing Quake Impulse binds in a .cfg file:
Have to search zee internet where they key bind / ini file is located. Used the search function in the input.ini just to check to see if "spacebar" was bound, it was not. Have to default key binds to figure out how Unreal or whatever naming convention the game uses for "spacebar" Manually editing the input.ini works fine, go figure.

"There are few games that I would say are "must play" due to the experiences they deliver. Alien: Isolation, Deus Ex, Prey, System Shock 2, Katana Zero, Unreal... I count Amid Evil among them, chiefly due to the environmental storytelling and overall feeling of having a grand journey poured smoothly over rock-solid gameplay in Amid Evil.

The first few worlds are interesting and fun enough, but HOLY S**T does this game ramp things up in the later levels. i'll say Amid Evil is very good when it comes to graphics and optimisation. for a game that's made out of blocks it runs very well on most processors.
gameplay-wise i wouldnt say its as dynamic as Dusk or Ultrakill, its simpler, but that only makes it smoother for me.

arsenal is not that big, but its very, VERY fun and creative. i dont think ive seen something as good as the Axe or Gauntlets when it comes to slaughtering enemies with a melee.

something i love more than anything in this game is the sound work. sound effects are pleasing and very clean: the ambient in the majority of the levels, the way doors and gates open, how enemies react in various ways, just pulling out Whisper's Edge alone is enough to make one shiver from satisfaction.
and dont get me started on the music, Andrew Hulshult is THE GOAT. he also worked on Dusk, so cant compare that, but imo Amid Evil beats Ultrakill in terms of sound effects here. all three games have different music, so i wont compare that either.

sorry for the late response. The issue is that if you increase the difficulty it takes longer to get super charged. High difficulty should make the game harder but not at thr cost of being less fun. IE nerfing the player. instead just make the enemies stronger.

The Forges are so far my favorite world... It's atmosphere is just incredible. The boss kind of annoyed me since I couldnt Soul Mode Star of Torment it like i could all the other ones until I figured out its gimmick. These enemies just keep getting trickier
I really like how this game keeps the same enemy types throughout all worlds, but they all do the same thing differently... So far this was the hardest world and goddamn do I hate the one that bombards you with these metal shards or something and takes away 700 hp in about 1 and a half seconds if youll stay still (Ive researched it and its name is the Painmaster... fitting...)

like how do you even approach that painmaster guy, i cheesed it everytime because as long as he saw the tip of my arm he started spamming these nails so it didn't matter
