I think I'm at something like 65 painted this year so far. But mainly because I have been in #board-to-death-3 and have to paint a minimum of 5 a month... and I've done some that aren't in that challenge just cuz I wanted to... and then I've been speedpainting some of the tiny Dune 24mm minis. I told them they had to smile and look super cute while holding the toy so that it would impress any family members looking when it came to present buying time. Nice thing is... when it came to present buying time we had a lot of evidence of the things they were into.

Just finished a mini clone of Skeletor from Masters of the Universe Clash for Eternia. There's 8 mini clones total, so I airbrushed them all to get a good few base layers for the skin and initial highlights and shadows. Finishing one up after that took awhile though. Head to toe he's just a bit shorter than a quarter, so it was fun trying to do that small detail.

The generally accepted rule last round was if you have to ask, it’s probably not allowed. I also think someone lost because they bought storage specifically for their minis. With that logic, you are buying something for your minis.

Buying a storage or a display case for minis is 100% hobby related. I actually got my mini bag before the challenge started just of that.
But miniatures are used for other hobbies that are not necessarily related to painting. DnD and board games are examples. Where do we draw the line? I can’t buy condition rings (picture) for my D&D sessions even though they have nothing to do with miniature painting?
If I can buy them, what is the difference between this and the same rings but with numbers?
If I can’t, what is the difference between the rings and a set of DnD dice? Both used for DnD sessions along with miniatures ;)

Pipettes, dental cleaners to get in the tiny spaces. Dump in an ultrasonic cleaner if you have one, preferably filled with something like Simple Green or LA's Awesome cleaner.

I find that very easily happens 😛. You order something you really want to paint, it arrives, you have other stuff you need to paint first and by the time you’re done with that you’re no longer excited about the thing you bought.

I always use citadel (GW) as the baseline, as they are the most commonly available ones. They're ~$5 each these days for a normal base colour. $4 isn't cheap, but reasonable

Went on a trip to Southern California, yes, went to Disneyland, loved how the fake rocks in the Star Wars area actually look like real metamorphic rocks up close, kept me busy looking at them in line. Worked a couple of commissions for friends. They bought the minis, and owe me money

I'm awful at mini-scale photography, but happy with how this basing/modification is going so far. The brown goop will become mud when I get to painting, but I tinted my cornstarch/glue mixture so I could actually see where I was placing it. Will re-prime the whole thing once I finish messing around with greenstuff.

Generally really happy with this, though! I love having more complex bases for my d&d minis.

I've run out of actual miniature bases, though... and since I can't buy any new stuff, I'm improvising with appropriately sized medicine bottle caps!

You can hear it when it's running, but its the sound that old refrigerators do. Like a soft humming. The one i have is also with a 35L tank so it doesn't run very often witch also helps. The only downside is that it's not made to run continuously, so if I'm using a lot of air (big needle/spraying metalics and such) it can get a bit hot but then i just take a 5-10 minute break after a while. For regular painting with lower pressures it is not a concern at all.

It's also a little slow, so it takes a minute or two between turning it on and being able to use it. That's partly because of the tank size but also because it actually is a bit slow compared to "regular" compressors. I'll take a minute of waiting for the sound benefits any day though.

Playing with my ikea fake plants for jungle foliage. Think I overdid the big one so I'll likely trim it down a bit.

Yeah i got a frozen should, still have and havent ben able to do much hobbing at all, but it is a bit better so will start painting again 🙂

@gaunt thunder drybrush is OK but will not be durable. Wash does not work at all. Prime is recommended. Painting with it all in place is a major PitA so I would dry-place, paint separately after priming, then place them on. Or just leave them unpainted - for tabletop purposes, unpainted looks fine
